Mattathias is a slightly-taller-than-average boy at five feet and one half an inch tall. He's got dark black hair and brownish-red eyes, as well as pale skin from sitting inside and drawing and studying all the time, pale enough to be albino. He has a pair of silvery spectacles that he has to wear to read and wears most of the time anyways so that his eyeballs function, and he always keeps them on a black string so that they don't hit the ground when they fall off his face (he had them knocked off and broken one too many times). His demeanor is a reserved, quiet, and somewhat fidgety one--he tends to keep to himself and is rather nervous about approaching people. He's never seen without his satchel that holds his pencils, sketchbook, notebook, and at least one book for reading. He, of course, has gaps where his canines are supposed to be, and his nails never stay short, no matter how hard he tries.

When not in class or wearing his Hogwarts robes, he's usually found in simple jeans, a t-shirt denoting one fandom or another (often a black tee with the bright red symbol of World of Warcraft's Horde on it), simple, dark sneakers, and, of course, his satchel.
Backstory

Since the day he was born, he's been crying blood. The doctors could find nothing wrong in spite of their best efforts so, finally, it was simply concluded that the only real problem with him was that he had no pigment in his skin. A doctor's note and many sunburns later, he conducted the vast majority of his activities inside or after nightfall, and was even allowed to opt out of PE when it went outside so that he wouldn't turn the color of a lobster before they were halfway through. It was also concluded that he simply didn't have canines--a strange combination, certainly, but an explicable one.

Mattathias never knew his biological father. His mother, Heulen Eynon, was a single mother through his first few years of life. He, of course, doesn't remember this. What he does know--mostly from the man he calls 'father' and stories from his mother when she was still all there--is that they were barely scraping by. He was three years old when Heulen met Eamon Jermaine, and a couple years later he was thriving at school with a stable home life and two parents.

He was an early reader, kicking things off when he was only five. His father always took care to read to him every night before bed--every night. Sometimes, it was out of a novel; others, a book of mythology. His love of fiction and magic came to him extremely young and as he grew older, he started writing stories on his own, as well as drawing them.

He was always the sort of kid who stayed indoors and stayed up late. Artistic, introverted, and quiet were all words to describe him since his youth. Things were good for a few years. Sometimes, it was hard to get by, but Eamon and Heulen always managed to get things back together. He was vaguely aware of their fighting and of the fact that Eamon was often concerned about how Heulen parented Matt, often speaking about unsafe situations or how he shouldn't have been left alone or how she should've made sure he had food that day, but Eamon wasn't even married to her. Matt didn't know anything different, and they kept the fighting away from him as much as they could, so he didn't really know anything until he was seven and his mother never showed up to get him.

Eamon was the one to pick him up from school. He explained as gently as he could the news: Heulen was alive, but in the hospital. He didn't really explain to Matt why. All Matt knew was that things went downhill. She started to disappear more, got more erratic on being able to get him, and more and more often the school had to call Eamon because she wasn't there. For his part, he didn't help his situation: confused, hurt, and more aggressive about it than was healthy, he started getting into fights with the other kids (although, admittedly, some of those kids were bullies). It took a few years of escalation and issues at home for Eamon to finally get custody of him, and he's lived with him ever since. He was quickly adopted by Eamon's daughter, Gwendolyn, who is two years Matt's senior. Matt also has a half-sister that he doesn't know about named Bronwyn, but they have never met.

His situation at his school was strenuous, to say the least. The teachers, although appreciative of his intelligence, were at their wits' end with the shenanigans and his tendencies to act out. Eamon was constantly close to just switching schools but it was yet another change that he didn't feel Matt needed. In spite of his social situation, Matt did have a couple friends, and they would get together on the weekends to play D&D, with Matt as the game master.

He had more enemies than he did friends. He was weird--partially albino, quiet, kicking it out of the park with art and grades, missing teeth. That was what they thought, anyways, until he was eight years old and got into a serious scrap with another kid on the recess yard. It wasn't the first fight he'd found himself in, nor the last, but it was certainly among the more intense and long-lasting ones. He'd been grabbed and in a reflexive reaction to the motion, he spun around and sank his fangs into the other boy's arm.

He didn't know what was happening. On some level, he simply shoved the incident and the strangeness to the back of his mind, burying it beneath denial. Things were already wrong with his mom--he couldn't handle more weird or strange or wrong. He couldn't be even more of a freak than he already was. Right?

He often walked home with one of these friends, Aysha, after school. It was on one of these occasions that they ended up taking a shortcut, one that both Eamon and Aysha's mother had warned them against because of the traffic. They were late leaving D&D and wanted to get home before dinner so, in spite of the darkness and the warnings, they took the route, and tragedy unfortunately occurred. Aysha was struck by a car as they were crossing the street where there wasn't a crosswalk. Matt called 999, then Eamon. She went to the hospital but died in the ambulance with Matt sitting next to her.

It wasn't long after that that they moved to the other side of London for a fresh start. Matt started at a new school, now at nine years old, and although he was never a particularly popular kid, things started to get back in-hand. With a more stable home life, he began to find himself on a more even keel: fewer fights, less trouble, and Matt generally just kept quiet and to himself. He never tried to make friends--his drawings were safer and easier and caused less anxiety--and it was on the second week that he had his first run-in with his magic.

It was nighttime and he was walking home from school. The terrain was new, and he didn't know the place very well, and he got lost. He was crossing a corner and a car came speeding around it. How in danger he truly was was irrelevant: all he could remember was Aysha, and what had happened to her when things got cut close one night on the way home. Terrified and perceiving himself as in danger, he suddenly found himself on the other side of the street with no explanation. He got home in one piece and told his father about it. Both of them decided it was probably a trick on the mind and were mostly content with that until the letter came in the mail the year he turned eleven.

Welcome to Hogwarts...

Fangs

Fangs may be unsheathed as a free action.
A bite attack deals 120 dmg (50 + (7x10)). To hit, an accuracy roll is thrown against opponent's evasion. The dhampir regains hp equal to 1/4 (rounded down) of the damage dealt, although their gained hp may not exceed their natural hp.
Claws

For one full action, a dhampir may use their dull-but-strong fingernails to claw an opponent, with accuracy vs evasion to hit (the same as the aforementioned bite. This attack, unlike bite, has a bleed effect that decreases the opponent's dmg output by 5% for the next 4 rounds.
Magical Menace

When casting a spell, dhampirs get -1 accuracy and a +1 critical failure rate, thanks to the fact that vampires are caster-incapable.
