APPEARANCE
[serene] — [pale] — [graceful]
There's something particular about the way Talia looks that elicits comparisons to white lace, a whisper ushered along the corridor, a single wisp of cloud set against the increasingly darkened skies. She stands tall among her peers, taller than most people her age, and she holds herself with such a refined sense of grace that she looks like she should stand atop a music box, stuck in an eternal pirouette. There's a serenity to her face, to the high cheekbones and the sparse scattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose, a tenderness to the gentle curve of her jawline and the wavy, blond hair that frames them, a warmth to the thick, soft-angled eyebrows and the gentle gossamer of lashes—but underneath those soft touches are eyes of such azure intensity that they are crisp and cold, frigid in each faceted hue like little flashes of winter between each slow, deliberate blink. There's something telling there, something prowling beneath the waves of color, slowly seeping past the cracks.

PERSONALITY
[kind-hearted] — [very curious] — [quick-witted]
At face value, Talia is a pretty open-minded character. She's easy enough to approach, quick enough to befriend, and she ultimately reserves judgement unless absolutely necessary. While actively socializing isn't a process that comes natural to her, she tries anyway because she knows, genuinely, that allowing herself to be held back by her past will mean that she will stay there, instead of moving on. She has realized, since her quick stint in and out of the Hospital Wing, that dragging her feet against the tide of change will ruin nothing more than the heels of her feet; to accept it, she must follow where the tide brings her, willingly and without hesitation.

There's still traces of insecurities lodged deep within her person, burning softly until they are egged on by insults and mockery. Talia isn't well-equipped to handle baseless criticism, and it's easy enough to get a rise out of her, but with each sunrise and every sunset, her reactions become less founded on hurt and more founded on anger, on rage, and while anger isn't necessarily a good thing, an explosion is far better than an implosion, and the less harm she deals to herself, the better she will get.

There's a surprising amount of charm to her, now that she's started to shrug off the last tendrils of insecurity her sisters had strung around her. With each knot she undoes, she's able to spread her wings wider, soaking up the golden sun and letting it emanate from herself in gentle, rolling waves—with each weight she leaves behind, she's able to shine brighter amidst a history shrouded in fear and hurt and trauma, embracing a brighter future with sharp eyes and a silver tongue.

She feels deeply, strongly—she always has, and she always will. As much as she likes pretending that she is able to handle whatever comes her way, she's still a young soul, vulnerable and at the mercy of mistreatment. She can be impulsive, stubborn, temperamental, passionate; she isn't impervious to being twisted around, and she always strives to impress the people she cares about due to her past of knowing only worthlessness. She aims to please, even when the consequences are worse than the recognition she receives from her peers, and it will likely take a while for her to understand that she is worth more than what they say she is. She grew up being inadequate, and now that she has the chance to be someone worthy of something, she'll take it, even if it isn't always right.

— BACKGROUND —
PRE-HOGWARTS HISTORY
[april 2008] — [june 2019]
Natalia Delilah Draig is the youngest child of the late Felicity Ophelia Draig (née Beauregard), an accomplished muggle-born healer, and Norman Charles Draig, a promising pureblood Auror. She has three older sisters, Alice Eira Draig, Faye Genevieve Draig, and Holly Grace Draig, who are attending Beauxbatons Academy of Magic at the fourth year, third year, and second year respectively. She also has one older brother, Cain Marcus Draig, who had been attending Hogwarts at the sixth year before his disappearance.

Felicity was a Hogwarts student when she first met Norman, a young man hailing from Beauxbatons and one of the candidates for the Tri-Wizard Tournament. While he had not been chosen by the Goblet of Fire, he quickly earned himself a reputation for being a very dashing but troublesome gentleman. He was devilish and charismatic, and it didn't take long for him to set his eyes on Felicity, on her crown of pale-blonde hair and brilliant blue eyes, on her soft touch but sharp wit. Felicity, at the time, harbored no interest in him, however, and denied his boyish advances with a flick of her hair or a twitch of her smile.

When the Beauxbatons carriage had departed, they'd become unlikely friends during the Tournament's traumatic unfolding of events. When the Great War came around, Norman lived in one of the most well-protected manors outside of Britain's influence, and he extended an invitation to Felicity, who weathered out the storm with him. Together, they assisted in smuggling witches and wizards out of England in order to give them adequate medical attention that an active warzone couldn't provide. They continued this relief effort until well-after the war, turning their clinic into a rehabilitation center for veterans.

It was during this project that Felicity and Norman eventually fell in love, marrying shortly after establishing their rehabilitation center, much to Norman's parents' dismay. Aegon Elgar Draig and Emlyn Aloisia Draig  (née Aurenwen) were notorious elitists and saw Felicity as impure. For years after their marriage, they vocally disapproved of their bonding, and it reached the point where the couple, along with their first son, were forced to move out of the Draiglaes Manor, instead relocating to Wales.

For a while, the couple lived with Felicity's family. After Cain, they had three additional children, Alice, Faye, and Holly. It was when Felicity was carrying her fourth daughter, Natalia, that Norman's mother started to fall sick—a blood malediction, notorious for wiping out members of the Aurenwen clan but had jumped enough generations that the family believed it had been wiped out from their gene pool.

In a strange turn of events, Felicity came to Emlyn and offered to help her with her illness. While initially reluctant to require assistance from a muggle-born, Emlyn eventually relented as her disease progressed into something worse. What happened the following nights remain unknown, but by the end of the fourth week, Emlyn was finally cured of her blood malediction for the first time in her life—at the cost of Felicity carrying it within herself, in secret.

She lived the rest of her life rather peacefully, but she eventually passed away during childbirth. Her sacrifice, when it was revealed to Aegon and Emlyn, allowed the family to put aside their ignorance and fully accept their grandchildren into the fold. The family moved back to the Draiglaes Manor, reunited in both halves, but missing its heart.

Because of the circumstances of her birth, Natalia didn't live an easy life. Her sisters saw her as the reason why their mother passed away, for the truth of her sacrifice had never been revealed to them, and they refused to even give her a passing glance. Cain, who had been old enough to understand the nature of Felicity's illness and sacrifice, was the only child who understood his youngest sister's position, and he swore on his life that he would find a way to protect her—from his sisters, from everyone else, and from the blood malediction that looms in the horizon, hungry for another life.

Her childhood wasn't particularly enjoyable, especially with the lack of a maternal figure in her life and the shared ire of her sisters. Thankfully, at the age of seven, Talia's life was graced by a person close enough to be a mother—Delphine Elizabeth Beauregard. Aunt Delphine was, in many ways, a muggle-version of her twin sister. An accomplished surgeon, surfer, and occasional karaoke singer, Delphine brought a much-needed feminine touch to the large household. In fact, it was through her that Talia was able to pick herself up, looking forward to the day ahead with bright eyes.

Her path was still rife with displeasure. For a long while, it did seem that there was no winning—the closer she got to Aunt Delphine, the worse her sisters treated her, but without Aunt Delphine's guidance, she was woefully lost. In the end, she chose to accept the mistreatment, letting the harsh words lash against her skin as she clung onto those who cared.

Her life was a whirlwind of emotions, constantly battering against her walls until she crumbled, rebuilt, and crumbled again. The older her sisters got, the more cruel they became, and it wasn't like Talia could just tell on them—they'd only treat her worse for tattling, and the last thing she wanted was to provoke them further. In the end, she was defenseless against their words, slowly becoming more and more unassuming until she was nothing more than a speck in the room...

A speck who was unable to do anything when her brother disappeared. Rumors came and went—they say he had fled Hogwarts in the company of miscreants, or that he had gotten himself expelled, or that he had become a fugitive (or had been harboring one). She refused to believe any of them until, one night, Cain appeared at their doorstep seeking refuge, only to be turned by her father, who had not been aware she bore witness to the entire interaction.

He'd seen him, though; Cain always did have a penchant for finding her even when she desired not to be found. She'd loved him still and motioned for him to come up and knock on her windowpane. She harbored him that night, listened to his thrilling stories until his familiar voice lulled her to sleep... and by morning, he was gone, and he stayed gone for a long time. Her father never looked for him. Her sisters never looked for him. Her grandparents never looked for him.

Aunt Delphine, however, knew there was more at play.

When Talia reached the age of enrollment, she voluntarily chose to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry over Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. With the help of her Aunt, who still called Cardiff her home, she was able to have herself enrolled into the primarily British institution, but there was more to their choice than simple academic preference. Talia believed that the halls of the renowned castle harbored information on her brother's whereabouts, and she meant to find answers regardless of the cost.
