-appearance-
He's around 5'3", a little taller than most twelve-year-old boys, but despite this he'll end up not much taller, around 5'6" probably. His eyes are a rockish grey, his complexion rather fair, and his dark brown hair is usually worn in a ponytail or haphazard bun. He's slim, rather than strong, his movements akin to that of a swan (he has always had a sort of grace about him- it often shocks others that he is a half-blood and not the son of some ancient Pureblood family). His face shows notable reserve, it's rare he lets strong emotions through like rage, delight, or terror- but if he seems more expressive you have earned his trust. His uniforms and books are all second-hand, but he takes relatively good care of his belongings so someone might not notice at a first glance. Despite both his parents working (before they went missing right before his second year at Hogwarts started) they have trouble making ends meet. This was most prominent around the time he learned he would be attending Hogwarts, when his paternal grandmother fell ill and later passed away.
Family
Frelyn Glorimayne
Image
His vivacious older maternal cousin, the eldest sister and middle child of his maternal uncle, Bogwild Glorimayne. Frelyn is a Hufflepuff bordering in personality of the brashness of a Gryffindor and the cleverness of a Ravenclaw. There is a certain gregacious warmth about her though and a fervency for insisting upon what is fair and just in most circumstances. She is very physically strong and fearless- a very plucky individual.

Aliia Glorimayne
Image
The baby of the three Glorimayne cousins, Aliia is also a Hufflepuff but most like Emerly in being shy and low-key, though she always tended towards more mellowness rather than his jumpiness. As of late she has grown distant from the rest of her family, and sadder, and more nervous than before. Emerly is teaming with his cousins to find out what the matter with her is.

Elard Glorimayne
Image
The eldest of his maternal cousins and the only Ravenclaw in the trio, he is somewhat high-brow and pretentious but very knowledgeable, willing to help anyone with homework and nothing short of a perfectionist. Like Emerly, however, he is something of a lone wolf at heart, and he encourages the latter to "fit in" and be friendly, even if it is taxing at times to an introvert. He also has quite a bit of street smarts and often has wise advice to impart to his younger siblings/cousin.

-FIRST YEAR PERSONALITY-

Image

Sensible is perhaps the best word to describe Emerly. Sensible, shy (though not when he deems his goals more important), and involuntarily sweet. Everything he does seems to have some practical purpose to it. He can accomplish just about anything he really sets his mind on, so long as there is some profitable purpose to it- it just so happens that Emerly doesn't think it's profitable to see people suffer, rather his deepest hope is to become a great healer for the sole purpose of making them happy. Despite agreeing to join Slytherin, he's very wary of his housemates, most Gryffindors, and any Pureblood. To be quite honest, he merely agreed to join the house to stick it to his uncle and prove that good can come out of just anywhere (have you ever heard anything more Slytherin in your life?), but it seems he's put himself in over his head. At any rate, these are his two golden rules: Don't want to be public enemy #1 and put your safety at risk? Don't go around irritating people. Need to accomplish something really important to you? Well... you can irritate a few people- can't make everyone happy.

-SECOND YEAR PERSONALITY-

Image

Since the break Emerly has been taciturn, glowering, and unfriendly, notably more sharp-tongued than before. Something of a dark cloud follows him wherever he goes, and he rarely smiles, but to smirk and roll his eyes at whatever he pleases- he is merely a shadow of his former shy but cordial self. Try as he might, though, he can't completely stuff down his true personality, so on occasion, he will show glimmers of his old self- especially when someone is in need of help. Perhaps more notably he is extremely on-edge nowadays, way more than his usual shyness and nervousness around others, one could say he seems extensively paranoid and untrusting of others. He is also prone to anxiety attacks due to the disappearance of his parents and the strange events unfolding back home. It is primarily due to these things that he keeps his distance from others.

-first display of magic-
Though Slytherins have a general reputation for being intimidating, rest assured that they aren't all so terrifying as they seem.
Emerly's first display of magic surfaced at around 10 years old when his paternal grandmother grew ill and wished to see a type of clover that only grew in Ireland at a certain time of year. He sat in the backyard of her London house, crying, wishing harder than anything that he could make her get better or show her just how much he cared about her before she left the world.
The exact clover as she described it had sprung into existence in the ground by his foot. He had never run faster in his life to bring it in a pot to her.
"It must have been magic, Emerly, dear."
Though she was a Muggle, she was right. She really was. He promised to himself that he'd learn to heal one day just to honor her, and keeps a book with a four-leafed clover from the pot pressed in it. He collects them nowadays.

-pre-hogwarts history-
Emerly's mother works in banking but always loved doing art. His father is a construction worker. They met when Emerly's father was doing renovations on her company's bank. He attended Muggle school, but only had a few close friends, and an arch-nemesis that ended up being expelled for bad behavior... the latter contributed largely to his fast reflexes and spatial awareness.
Only having a little time between learning of his magical ability and arrival at Hogwarts (less than a year), and his mother being unwilling to talk much about the wizarding world, although accompanying Emerly with his father to buy his things, his maternal uncle Bogwild Glorimayne was most willing to indoctrinate inform Emerly about the dangers of Purebloods and house Slytherin, most of whom were responsible from beginning the war that pitted Harry Potter against Voldemort. Emerly was sorely warned to stay far, far away from anyone who fitted the two criteria, as it was rumored that Death Eaters, yes, those, still hid amongst their ranks- more that ready and willing to denounce Emerly as a mudblood and spar him on point. Strangely enough, his uncle also warned him against Gryffindors, who were too reckless and "brave" for their own good, never mind the fact that, though Glorimaynes were almost exclusively Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws, Bogwild was the first Gryffindor in the family lineage to attend Hogwarts.
Of course, the many history lessons did well to instill deep fear in Emerly's heart as well as a strange sense of being the odd one out in the family after being sorted into Slytherin- but his own father's advice apparently had an equal, if not greater effect, "If your mother's family could allow her to marry a muggle like me, and care enough for my mother to show up for her funeral and laud her as a good woman, you can get along with just about anyone you set your mind to."

-FIRST YEAR SUMMARY-
Emerly arrived at Hogwarts with no little trepidation. He met a number of individuals, of them including a certain bookish Gryffindor, a fellow Slytherin and his pet rat with a similar interest in Quidditch, said Slytherin's good friend (who also was the owner of a particular distaste towards wearing shoes), a number of mixed wizards and witches at said rat's birthday, a quite kind and musically-inclined Ravenclaw with an affinity for snacks, a trio of brave sparring Hufflepuffs not much dissuaded from other Slytherins' historically intimidating reputations (the latter of which included a particularly stringent Pureblood with a penchant for bouts of anger, bordering on wildness), a Slytherin girl who very much treasured her late mother's necklace, a menagerie of many-housed fellows bent on making a prank group to rival that of a group of other female Hogwarts students, a group of other young witches and wizards on the ride boat ride across the lake, and a sizeable number of Slytherins at the welcome feast during the Sorting Hat's sorting, as well as a few others in passing. He began quite fearful, of not only other Gryffindors abd Slytherins but any pure-blood in general. Caught in the crossfire between worry about being sorted into the rumored most malevolent of houses, with the worst history (no doubt), confusion and dismay over the magical world he became aware of only recently, shyness and some struggles with all the new curriculum, he managed to come out through the other side relatively unscathed, but no less bewildered by the unfolding surprises that are revealed around every other corner. His mother and father would say this first year has been a relative success, but Emerly would have some reservations in declaring complete victory just yet.
Certainly, his uncle, Bogwild, does little to hide his distaste of some of Emerly's new acquaintances, as does his aunt. To make matters more concerning, his older cousin, Aliia Glorimayne, is beginning to have some problems Emerly has only become partially aware of, as both his mother and father had disappeared over the break- much to the dismay of the Ministry of Magic, and he has taken up residence with his maternal relatives. Dealing with this mystery has been almost too much for Emerly to bear. Besides this, his closest confidant, Aliia, she is in Hufflepuff, it is rather difficult to check up on her, but Emerly is determined to find out what has been making her change as of late, even if he himself is becoming notably more reserved nowadays as of late as well.
He secretly fears that this recent development will drive away what friends he had made the previous year, and that his newfound coldness and unwillingness to get involved in others' affairs, as well as growing impatience, will be a self-fulfilling prophecy on part of the Sorting Hat.
Emerly Pine. A Slytherin through and through. Cunning... wily, but maybe in a way Emerly was too innocent to ascribe anything potentially baleful, bitter, and venomous to when he first faced the hat, determined he would be able to become a Slytherin unlike what his uncle had always accused Slytherins of.

However, with all the pressure, it seems as if it is nearly impossible to break from the urge to use whatever means necessary to get his parents back. As his older Ravenclaw cousin Elard, the brother of his female maternal cousins Hufflepuff Aliia and Frelyn once said after watching Emerly at the Sorting Ceremony said, "Be careful, Emerly. We always knew you to be a dove, it's difficult to stay as innocent a one in a den full of snakes."
