Regina ─ ri–JINE-uh ─ proper name, from Latin, literally "queen;" related to rex (genitive regis) "king" (from PIE root *reg- "move in a straight line," with derivatives meaning "to direct in a straight line," thus "to lead, rule"). Cognate with Sanskrit rajni "queen," Welsh rhyain "maiden, virgin."

Miller

The standard modern vocabulary word represents the northern Middle English term, an agent derivative of mille ‘mill’, reinforced by Old Norse mylnari (see Milner). Reducio As the youngest child of the Noble House of Miller, Regina was pampered and coveted in affection when she was still only a babe. However, like all of her older siblings, the Miller Preceptor was extremely strict with her as soon as she could stand - molding her into the perfect image of a Pureblood heiress. Regina was taught to hold herself with poise, walk with grace, write with the elegant calligraphy, and talk with a sophisticated articulation. She was taught that Pureblood Heirs does not play - they only hold their heads high and bring honour to their family. Because of this, she has never known the true joy that other children her age experienced among peers - the simple happiness of companions, toys, and childhood innocence. What she does know, was the utterly dejection she felt from living in her older siblings' shadows. Regina knows that she could never dream to surpass her brothers, the twin heirs of the House of Miller - the ones that her parents are most proud of. Rupert and Harold have brilliant minds, exceptional skills, conversationalist approach. They are the most promising to inherit the family fortune and prestige as the direct Heir and the spare. Regina's competence is close to surpassing her sister's level however, even though she's only younger by three years. Regina knows that the clamber for second best in the household would be strenuous - because of how her sister viciously guards the place due to ardent jealousy - but she refuses to be known as the weakest one of four Heirs. Especially when her Father holds little to no expectations for her, because the only plans he had for her is to betroth her to some influential wizard of another Pureblood family once she's of age. Alfred Miller sees his youngest as a means to secure powerful alliances, and Regina would be damned if she allows him the privilege to control her future so. In order to fight her way out of the shadow she has grown up in, she devotes all of her energy and time in reading books, researching about all different sorts of magic and spending most of her time with her tutors. The young witch has tried everything she could to enhance her own skills and knowledge in advance as she waits impatiently for her acceptance letter from Hogwarts, where all of her siblings are already currently attending. Regina vows to prove her worth through her studies, and thrives to become more than just another daughter to her parents by becoming one of the greatest witches there will be. The young aristocrat's only grief was her sister's hostile and ruthless behaviour towards her - provoked by their tutors' praises - causing Regina to become emotionally dysfunctional and mistrustful. THESTRALS Yes Reducio First instance of magic: Regina was only six years old when her older sister had attempted to play a cruel prank on her by purposely knocking over a shelf full of books in the Miller Manor's library. It did not end up hitting Regina, fortunately, as the shelf and the books levitated mid-air the instant she let out a frightened scream. Rebecca was punished severely afterwards, but their parents were otherwise pleased that Regina's magic was finally starting showing early signs of development.

THE NOBLE HOUSE OF MILLER

Alfred Miller Regina's father. One of the most influential politicians of the British Ministry of Magic. He's an efficient Legislator with a powerful mind, and a stern traditionalist patriarch. He values pride and prestige above all, and demands the same of his Heirs. Alfred maintains a strained relationship with the Barett patriach as they were enemies in Hogwarts, but remains cordial only for his darling wife's sake. Regina does not have a pleasant relationship with Alfred as she loathes his controlling behaviour of every aspect her life. It has gotten worse since Rebecca's death, as he now demands Regina to step up in her responsibilities as the only daughter of the Miller family.
	Louise Miller (née Barett) Regina's mother. A very assertive, upstanding Auror with years of experience under her sleeve and an expertise for spell casting. She's also a traditionalist like Alfred, but she's a bit more lenient when it comes to respecting customs. She's an attentive matriarch, but no less strict than her husband. Louise plays the role of mediator between the Baretts and Millers and sometimes it takes a great toll on her mental health. She has a slightly better relationship with Regina than Alfred does, but she is even more demanding of her youngest as the only Gryffindor out of her four children. Since Rebecca's death, Louise spoke less and less, the light snuffing out of her eyes as depression looms over her mind. Thus, she is often disassiociative and is completely reserved in her grief.
Rupert Miller Regina's first older brother. Age 20 and the direct Heir to the House of Miller, a Slytherin graduate from Hogwarts and is currently working as a Ministry Level 4 Employee. He's a charismatic young man who is incredibly skilled in making connections and has inherited his Father's intelligence. As the oldest of four, Rupert is the most responsible and therefore the mediator between his siblings, though because of their father's mistreatment sometimes he feels as though he's obligated to be a better father-figure to them in Alfred's place - even more so now that Rebecca's death is the straw that broke the camel's back. Regina loves him dearly, but she doesn't like how Rupert always babies her. He is betrothed to Audrey of the Silverstein family.
	Harold Miller Regina's second older brother. Age 20, another Slytherin graduate with his twin Rupert and working as a Ministry Level 10 Employee. Although he's regarded as the spare Heir like most middle children from traditionalist Pureblood families, Harold doesn't let it affect him--in fact, he's just as talented in both brains and brawn as his twin, if not more. He does sympathise with Regina in this aspect, as they're both somewhat considered as the lesser sibling. They've become much closer since Rebecca's death, supporting each other emotionally. Harold is betrothed to Netsai of the Kamau family.
Rebecca Miller Regina's older sister who has passed away by the hands of Dark Wizards at the age of 19. She was a brilliant graduated Slytherin. Unlike the Miller twins, Rebecca was vicious despite her otherworldly beauty when she was still alive. She was no less intelligent than any of her siblings, but that sharp mind was tainted with nothing but misguided ideals. She feared Regina taking her place in the family hierarchy and spent most of her time tormenting her little sister with cruel words, malicious hexes and tattling to the Miller patriarch whenever Regina did something out of line. Regina absolutely used to hate Rebecca beacause of this, but upon hearing her last words and an apology on the day of her death, Regina no longer knows how to feel about the sister who once hounded her steps. She seems to haunt her dreams now, a trauma that slowly breaks her apart.

The Noble House of Miller is a long line of Pureblood wizards with several branches across Western Europe - namely England, Germany, Ireland and Scotland - and could be trace back to as far as the 1800's. Contrary to popular belief, the Millers hadn't always been part of the aristocrats, as their ancestors worked laboriously to pave their way to the top through countless trials in the Wizarding World during older times. They prided themselves on the thirst for knowledge, and were able to secure a place within the high society. The older generations never fail to instruct their wisdom to their descendants - a Miller is diligent, dignified and valued honour. The main branch of the family resides in England, and has always stayed true to Salazar Slytherin's ideology since the foundation of Hogwarts.

Before Regina's birth

Alfred Miller was a distinguished Slytherin at Hogwarts, and was the coveted heir of of his Father since he was Charles Miller's only son. He was a brilliant Snake with a hunger for recognition, but he was very arrogant and he never bothered to hide his disdain for people he thought were beneath him. Alfred had no tolerance to those who thought they could outsmart him, and it was with this mindset that prompted the long-term rivalry between him and Edgar Barett of Gryffindor - another esteemed student at the same age as him. It wasn't until Edgar's younger sister Louise, a chivalrous and admirable Lion, had charmed Alfred's heart with her confident personality and the only one brave enough to knock him down a peg that he'd begun to mellow out.

Alfred and Louise was confronted with many objections against their romance, not only from their respective peers, but also from Edgar himself. However, they persisted and were wed after their Hogwarts graduation - receiving blessings from both sides of the family as they were both born with noble blood and were equals in skills and knowledge. A few years later, the first Miller Heirs were born - two identical twins inseparable since birth. Rupert and Harold were the gems of the family, raised with the highest expectations. Harold however, being the younger twin, was treated more like a spare, and it was only through sheer dedication that he'd managed to stay on the same level as Rupert.

Rebecca Miller, the third child, was born a year after the twins and she'd learned earlier in life to not fall behind her brothers. She'd worked hard to be acknowledged by her parents as she knew being Heiress only meant being married into another influential family to expand their prestige. Unfortunately, Rebecca had inherited her Father's arrogance and vice - from the moment that her Mother was round with the youngest member of the family, Rebecca knew that she would have to play dirty to never return to the world of shadows again.

Regina keeps a private journal where she writes down every important events in her life to leave behind a trace of her years in Hogwarts, along with thoughts and emotions she would never share with anyone else. It is her most coveted possession, gifted by her brother Rupert Miller. This is meant to be IC private, therefore you are not IC aware of what is written inside. -----

Beginning of the journey, and an unsolved mystery (2017 - 2020)

My first year at Hogwarts was tempestuous. It started well at first, when I boarded the Express and encountered one Jessica Garrison and became acquaintances with her after discovering that we shared quite a bit of similarities. But then, I arrived at the castle fully expecting to be sorted in Slytherin just like my older siblings had been, only for the Hat to put me in Gryffindor. It argued how despite coming from a long bloodline of Slytherins, I had a heart that belonged to the Lion House. I have always suspected that Mother's Barett bloodline ran a bit stronger inside me, but I was never prepared to be proven right.

After overcoming the initial shock, I decided to adapt accordingly. I am trained to make the best out of terrible outcomes, as a Pureblood Heiress. Father's reaction was reserved and curt. I knew that he was disappointed, but not much so, as he never had much expectations for me to begin with. How demeaning.

I wasn't surprised, of course. After all, Father one had plans to marry me off into another influential Pureblood family, just like with Rebecca. He already has Rupert as Heir and Harold as the spare to continue the House of Miller's prestige.

Mother's reaction was more enthusiastic. I had a feeling she was hoping for me to be the one to inherit her Gryffindor heritage. Despite the shame I felt for not being able to please Father, Mother's encouraging words soothed the turbulent emotions somewhat and solidified my resolve to bring honour to my family a different way. I even made an effort to interact with another Gryffindor, though we didn't remain acquaintances.

Rebecca's reaction was the least savoury. She takes advantage of how I have strayed from our family's true Slytherin heritage to torment me even more than she already did. How I loathe her existence. She is but a thorn in my side.

Our confrontations have become more truculent since then. We would always be but a second away from duelling in the corridors. But I will not allow Rebecca to manipulate my emotions so easily. I will not allow her to break me more than she already had. There was one time where our arguments have led to something agreeable, such as a meaningful meeting with a Slytherin boy.

It could have eventually turned into something more, if I had not been forced to leave Hogwarts in the middle of my second year, along with my siblings, by an urgent summon from Father.

My uncle's spouse, Beatrice Barett, had convulsed on her bed during a crisp February night. She was rushed to St Mungo's immediately by my cousin Victoria, but the Healers said that it was a minute too late, and they couldn't do anything to save her. It happened when Uncle Edgar was on an off-country mission, and he was devastated by the news after his return.

My siblings and I returned to London to attend the funeral. The preparations took a few arduous months because Aunt Beatrice's true cause of death remained, alarmingly, a mystery to be solved. It didn't take long for speculations of murder to begin circulating and the Aurors began an investigation at once, Father being a prime suspect due to his bad history with Uncle Edgar.

I was unable to return to Hogwarts until the interrogations and the trials were concluded, resorting to studying at the manor with my textbooks and my tutors. It was an incredibly appalling affair that put a stain into the House of Miller's name. Mother was heartbroken because of Father's predicament, and the rest of us were agitated.

In the end, the Aurors couldn't find any evidence that Father was involved save for the fact that he had been visiting Aunt Breatice and Victoria for business and the Baretts proceeded with the funeral. The entire investigation has been strenuous with no result.

I was finally allowed to attend Hogwarts again after three years, when the rumour mill and the public disdain has somewhat died down and it would be safe for me and my siblings to return to the school. The affair has changed the entire family and I felt it in my bones. I believe it has changed me as well.

Aunt Beatrice's death has sullied the Miller name and now Father is even more exigent about our behaviour at school. I think he is afraid that anymore incident will turn the House of Miller into a laughing stock and we will lose our standing in the Pureblood society.

I have no knowledge of the truth. The adults kept every crucial information from me due to paranoia. My parents said I should worry more about my studies, that everything is taken care of. My brothers won't divulge anything to me. Rebecca's hostility is the only thing that has remained the same.

I can only hope my return to Hogwarts after these few years would be less emotionally turbulent.

Perhaps it is a futile wish.

Reunion, new friends, and new enemies (2021 - 2022)

This year has been much more eventful than I had expected. I've met so many people, and consequently made a few enemies as well. Though, I prefer to think of the pleasant companions first.

My dear childhood friend, Kim Sato, is finally enrolling at Hogwarts. He was sorted into Gryffindor, so naturally I became like a guide to him. We have not seen each other since we were toddlers. Needless to say, it did take us quite a bit of time to recognise one another. It happened when I helped him through the castle stairs. I was not aware that he had a fear of heights. I will have to make a mental note of that.

Another friend I've gained is Faye Simmons, from Ravenclaw. Granted, our first meeting did not go well given how she annoyed me with her whimsical personality. But I've grown to tolerate it, and loathe as I'd like to admit, it has grown a bit on me. Since Faye will never read nor find this journal I will say it here that I am attracted to her. But I'm certain she already knows, more or less. I have a feeling the attraction is mutual. We went to the Blossom Ball together where the Hexwiward Champions were chosen. I did not make the list, unfortunately, but I did get to see my cousin Henri from Beauxbatons again.

I did meet a very interesting and enigmatic Slytherin. Draven Mirador, another Pureblood Heir. We started off very rough when he found me playing the piano in the Room of Requirement. We shared many similarities and hardships from our families, but our natural pride and disdain of each other prevented us from being allies - at first. A fateful sneak out to Hogsmade changed that. We both got caught by a dimwitted Hufflepuff Prefect who goes by the name of Emma Wynn, and we quickly showed her later in detention why you should never meddle with somebody much more powerful than you. After that, Draven and I became closest of friends, even more when he came to the manor in July and finally kick started me into rebelling against my abusive parents. He's not attending Hogwarts anymore, preferring to transfer to Durmstrang. I will always miss him, and I wonder still if we could have evolved into something more had he remained. (I've gained quite a bit of a fearsome reputation after the detention.)

Onto less essential mentions. Wynn wasn't the only enemy I've made. Quite a few honourable mentions to be revealed, but the top of the list has to be Evelynn Decipio. I will admit, she holds herself on par with the most distinguished of Purebloods with her impeccable speech and regal manners. Still, as Prefect she was assigned to "keep an eye on me" due to concerns. My glorified babysitter. If she believes she can ever make me cater to her control like my Father has always done, Decipio is severely mistaken. The upcoming year, I shall make her life hell.

There are also my cousins related by marriage, Ivy Bellamy and Everly Charlton. While Charlton isn't quite my enemy (though she is very annoying), Bellamy is certainly in my bad book. Her sister was the reason why my cousin Isaiah left Britain constantly after tarnishing the Barett name with a messy divorce, Mother's side of the family. Bellamy is no less unpleasant than her sister. She believes herself to be better than me, somehow, the twit. Rupert is betrothed and dating Bellamy's cousin now, so I'm not looking forward to being related to her again.

Those are not all the people I've met, but I have interacted with them far less so I won't talk about them for now.

On a more personal note, I have a great white owl whom I've named Athena. She's incredibly loyal and very attuned to my emotions. I have trained her to attack those I dislike, and it's quite amusing to see their fingers bleed from her pecks. A good familiar, indeed. I have also made it into the Gryffindor Duelling Team, and brought my first victory to my House. People will finally respect my proficiency more as a refined duellist. I am, after all, a prodigy in Dark Arts Defence.

That shall conclude everything that has happened this year. For the next, I shall begin breaking the chains my parents have imposed upon me since the day I was born, and rise like a phoenix from the ashes as a new person they can never control again.

Thorn of Fiorescura, first heartbreak and overcoming trust issues (2022 - 2023)

Reducio

This year, I shed my old feathers by staying away from the manor for an entirety of summer holidays thanks to Everly and summer camp. I made it clear to Father that I will no longer keep up the fake pretense back in September, and I stuck to my words - I have broken almost every rule in the book and gained quite a reputation out of it. It felt freeing in a way it never was before. I should have done this much sooner. It was about time I stood up for myself Harold said I would be the first one out of the four of us to break free.

But not all started well. I have discovered a thorn in my side, embedded so deep and so stubbornly that no matter venom or cruel actions could pull it out. Piérre Marchonné. Despicable and infuriatingly carefree. He never takes anything seriously and my threats slide off his back like oil on water. He thinks everything is a stage and he is the jester. I would rather call him a clown for it - he has the attitude and a knack for laughing things off. We fought in the common room and got detention together for it. It was entirely his fault for attempting to cross me of all people. I still haven't forgiven him for the transgression in the Great Hall Pride event last year. He insists that we aren't enemies, for some reason, and calls me this Italian nickname as though I was his friend. I would never be his friend. He irritates me, challenges me at every turn and isn't afraid of me or hate me like everybody else after I have acted hostile towards them. I don't understand him, and I cannot stand that. I cannot comprehend the way his mind works. He wants to figure mine out. It's a long game of cat and mouse with no clear winners and frustration on my end. I hate him. I want to Flipendo him out of the window of our dormitories. Or dangle him up the Astronomy Tower. Whichever works to wipe that stupid roguish charm smile off his face.

Only positive thing at the beginning of the year was the little trip to Hogwarts basements where I had a somewhat genuine conversation with Colin when I came upon him mourning his dead twin. It was a side of him I haven't seen before, but not unwelcome. I think I might have revealed a bit of myself in that basement too. We've gotten closer since then, and apparently he's my cousin. I only discovered that connection through the letters I exchanged with Matthew in the States. Colin's uncle and my aunt Alice used to fool around. That makes a lot of sense as to why she left England when she was pregnant with Matthew all those years ago, I suppose.

Then, a poignant turn to the story. I am ashamed to have let myself be deceived by the one who should have never broken my trust. I was viciously reminded of the very reason why I built up a cold and hostile front to everybody I meet - it was for emotional protection. I had promised to that little girl in the mirror once that I would not allow anyone to get close enough to hurt me like I had already been hurt. But her company lured me into a false sense of security and warmth. I realised much too late that the one I actually felt something remotely human for never existed. A disgusting farce because I was too weak to her advances. I cannot love again. How can I love again after this? This is my punishment for letting down my defenses. There is only so much a person can take before they don't have any love left to give. I thought I could heal I won't fall for another trick to my vulnerability again.

At least now I have real friends I know I can fully trust. They won't ever betray me. I have Kim and Colin. Draven will always have a special place in my heart, and perhaps Aurelia as well, even if she has disappeared. Perhaps a new addition wouldn't so bad...Elsian makes for a fine partner in crime. He is insipid and irresponsible, but I don't doubt his honesty. If only because he is too dumb to ever actually hurt anyone. Elsian has his usefulness, and I would never tell him this, but I do appreciate our friendship. He doesn't know this, and he doesn't have to. He can just continue to be my metaphorical (and sometimes literal) punching bag. His idiotic optimism is a light of its own in my dark world.

One day, it won't be so dark anymore. I will make sure Father gets what he deserves, along with Grandfather. I have people supporting me now. Time is running out, I cannot dawdle anymore.

APPEARANCE Reducio Henri's features are handsomely defined and very pleasing to stare at, with ashy blond hair styled slightly messy to maintain a mischievous yet dashing look. His soft grey eyes seem to glimmer like silver whenever the light hits just right, making it impossible to not be lost in the intensity of his gaze. Henri has sharp jawlines and high cheekbones, along with beautiful fair skin and a bright complexion. HISTORY Reducio Carnelian Miller (Regina's great-grandfather) had had a darling wife whom he cherished dearly despite the circumstance of their arranged marriage due to Pureblood traditions. Together, the couple had bared brilliant and prodigal children by the names of Charles and Melvina Miller. Whereas Charles--the older brother--would attend Hogwarts for his education and wed Allura Raywood of Durmstrang a few years after his graduation before having their only coveted son Alfred, Melvina found herself enchanted by the bewitching calling of Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and pleaded for her parents to allow her to study within the sophisticated walls of the Académie. Thus was the beginning of Melvina Miller's story, where she was sent to France and encountered the wonderful and gentlemanly Alexandre Louis de Courcillon in her fourth year. Alexandre was in his sixth year when they met for the first time, and both Purebloods quickly became enamored with one another. When Carnelian discovered that the prestigious House of Courcillon had a family prestige that could be traced back to French nobility during the 17th century, he immediately gave his daughter and her lover all of his blessings when Melvina had announced her willing engagement with Alexandre--since it was a beneficial marriage that would expand the House of Miller's connections to France. Melvina de Courcillon then gave birth to a beautiful girl whom she named Juliette Marie, and being the only child in the family, that girl would grow up to be condescending and extremely pretentious. It was almost unbelievable that anyone could ever come to genuinely like such a vain woman as Juliette, yet she somehow charmed the Pureblood Heir of the House of Bourbon to fall irrevocably in love with her and leave his at-the-time fiance Annalise de Montfort to marry Juliette instead, without knowing Annalise was already pregnant with a child who would later be born under the name Lucietta Mahler in America. People whispered that Juliette de Courcillon had used Amortentia, others rumoured that Guillaume Alphonse de Bourbon was simply infatuated with her otherwordly beauty--all blond hair and shining grey eyes like diamonds. Despite the circulating hearsay, Juliette was married into the House of Bourbon and almost a year after, Henri Charles de Bourbon (Regina's second cousin) was born. He would not meet Lucietta, the illegitimate child of his father, and discover that they were half-siblings until much later in his life. Juliette Marie de Bourbon had wanted a daughter to pamper like a princess, but she'd got a son instead, and it was for this reason that Henri never received maternal affections from Mère throughout his childhood. Père was too besotted with the now Bourbon matriarch to even notice, and Henri was left to be raised by caretakers and preceptors. Henri inherited his good looks from his mother, and unfortunately, all of her bad traits as well. He came to resent his parents for their neglect, even though he'd learnt the art of the mask and pretended to be a good, obedient son. He never understood the concept of love as he's never received it from his parents, and soon Henri became a new constant rumour within the French Pureblood society as a child conceived through Love Potion, thus unable to feel love--fuelling the already scuttlebutt of Guillaume and Juliette's romance. This knowledge was one of the many causes of Henri's hidden rotten side, but the moment that he stepped foot into Beauxbatons, the young Bourbon Heir vowed to make use of his beautiful face and charm he'd got from his detestable mother to one day trample both of his parents and bring the House of Bourbon to new heights within Wizarding France. This conviction only grew when his sister, Charlotte Diane de Bourbon, came to this world when he was 11--the spoiled little princess that Mère had always wanted. First instance of magic: It was during supper with both of his insufferable parents that Henri displayed the potential prowess of his magic. Henri was only five when he unintentionally exploded all of the glasses and china plates on the table due to bare concealed anger after a underlying vicious comment Mère had thrown at him. One of the broken pieces almost marred Juliette's flawless skin. Henri suffered a furious scolding from Père and was grounded in his quarters for three consecutive days. PERSONALITY Reducio Once you've met Henri, it is impossible to dislike him--the young French is nothing but charming, outgoing and incredibly charismatic. Henri has his way with words, knowing and saying exactly what people want to hear whilst accompanying it with a disarming smile. He's particularly gentle with the ladies and the pretty boys--he never fails to compliment them to earn their favour, as he feels attraction towards both genders. Never would anyone suspect that underneath all that dazzling outward appearance is a manipulative, conniving and vain person. Henri knows he's got the charm and he's learnt to use it to his advantage. He viciously guards his darker side away from people and he doesn't have a conscience--if you aren't someone he considers as valuable within his entourage, he would never extend a hand in need when you're in trouble. Henri knows not of compassion and sympathy for others in his heart.
