History/Background Story:
Tanya is a half-blood, born from two half blood parents. (She doesn't know this, but she'll find out later through RP) Her father was never in the picture, and her mother died when she was six, putting her in foster care. She spent the majority of her life bouncing around from foster home to foster home in Berlin, Germany because of her abrasive personality and detached nature. She isn't one to make friends quickly, and growing up in that environment only accentuated her cautiousness.
Her current family picked her up as a foster child after spending almost a year in a group home. A few months later they began processing the paperwork to adopt her. Surprisingly, they get along well and Tanya enjoys spending time with them (despite the grumbling). Anja Berger and Anton Berger are a married couple in their late 30's. Anton is in the German military, and the small family had to relocate to London soon after they began the adoption process because of it. He works as an ambassador of sorts. Anja is an Archaeologist and works at the University College London as a professor and researcher.
She always struggled in school, despite her intelligence, because she struggled with its structure. She usually ignores authority figures if she disagrees with them or dislikes them, which doesn't help her in the long run. She struggles with sleeping disorders and anxiety, which makes her sleep in class and then have to catch up with everyone else at night. Hopefully she'll find the motivation and the support she needs at Hogwarts to do well, even if she works odd hours.
When she isn't in school robes, she is most often seen with a beanie and an olive green jacket on, being perpetually cold. She's of average height for her age, and on the scrawny side. Tanya has hazel eyes and jaw-length curly brown hair cut into a bob.
Tanya suffers from narcolepsy (not diagnosed yet, will be RP'd out), and the symptoms will include excessive daytime sleepiness, so she may pass out randomly for a few minutes. She'll also experience sleep paralysis and cataplexy (though not often). Right now she is really struggling because she doesn't know why her body is acting like this. She knows it's not normal to pass out all the time and have to struggle to go to sleep, but she doesn't want to go to the nurse about it.
Tanya sees the world mostly in black and white. She is the kind of person that judges people very quickly, and if you've done something to make her dislike you, then you're going to have a lot of trouble returning from that. She is cool and collected, always thinking carefully before speaking her mind. She can go a whole day without speaking if she so wishes, and if she's in a mood, she will outright ignore people and walk away. However, once she does find someone that she likes (and is patient enough to stick around), she will be an amazing friend. She's the kind of person who is very reliable, although unorthodox. She will always get her schoolwork in, and she will always study for tests, even if it looks like she couldn't care any less. She will always stick up for the people she cares about, in her own way. If asked to do something (as long as it's reasonable) she will always perform well.

NPCsAnja Berger- Soon-to-be adoptive mother. Tanya really likes her family, but doesn't know how to show it. Anja is also very quiet, but is also very good at telling when Tanya is upset, and can see through Tanya's facade easily. Anja stands at 5'7'', so Tanya barely reaches her shoulders. She has long blonde hair and grey eyes. Tanya is convinced that those eyes stare into your soul. Anja loves to cook, so she'll make Tanya sit with her in the kitchen while she cooks so that she can talk to her about her day, politics, and various other subjects. At first Tanya didn't like being forced to talk to her, but now she looks forward to it every day. Anja isn't one so sit down and be all touchy-feely, so when she realizes that something is wrong, she makes sure that Tanya knows she can always talk to her simply by being present. Tanya enjoys the educational and philosophical talks, so that's how they connect.
Anja is a natural leader, quick to see the strengths and weaknesses of the people who work for her. She's a researcher, an Archaeologist, and a professor at the University College London. They were very fortunate that a teaching position opened up during the time where the family was in an odd limbo during the move to London. She works odd hours because of the class schedule, planning for field seasons, processing artifacts, and writing papers.
Anja is intelligent and cunning, but also very kind. She'd be a good fit for Ravenclaw as well.
Anton Berger- Soon-to-be adoptive father. Tanya really likes her family, but doesn't know how to show it. Anton is a giant cuddly teddy bear. He's 6'2'' with broad shoulders and a body that looks like an upside-down triangle. He's been serving in the military since he was 18, so almost 20 years. And while he doesn't act like it that often, he is also very intelligent, and serving in London to do diplomatic work. He loves cuddling, so he'll often scoop Tanya into his arms and bear-hug her. She calls him a wild animal and pretends she doesn't like the affection. And while she didn't really understand or like the love the couple gave her when she first arrived as a foster kid, she's come to really care for them. So she tolerates their oddness.
Tanya has been living with them for almost a year now, and they'd applied for adoption about a month before Anton got re-assigned to London. It made them panic, and Anton had to ask his boss for an extension in Berlin so that they could have their home visit and talk to Tanya's social workers about moving and taking her with them. Fortunately, Anton's boss had been working with Anton for a long time and was understanding. Unfortunately, they weren't able to extend their stay in Berlin long enough for her to become officially adopted before they moved. Because the home visit went very well and because Anton worked in the military, they were able to convince her social workers to allow her to move to London with them.
Anton would 100% be a Hufflepuff or Gryffindor.
OOC: Since they have to stay in London, I'm probably going to have Anton retire and become a firefighter.
