Mayhaw wands are complex and intriguing in their natures, just like their owners who best suit them. Mayhaw wands may be particularly suited to healing magic, but they are also adept at curses. The Mayhaw wand seems most at home with a conflicted nature, or with a witch or wizard passing through a period of turmoil. Mayhaw is not easy to master and should only ever be placed in the hands of a witch or wizard of proven talent, or the consequences might be dangerous. Mayhaw wands have a notable peculiarity: their spells can, when badly handled, backfire.
Not quite dragon and not quite bird, a wand with snallygaster heartstring is considered a jack of all trades, with a penchant for defensive spells. Boggart: The Pale ManUnmoving at the head of the magnificent dining table in his lair with a lavish dinner spread out before him, Calanthe understands why the young Ofelia became entranced with the Pale Man. Ofelia's task was simple; retrieve a dagger from the Pale Man's lair. The only rule she had to follow was to not touch or consume anything from the Pale Man's dinner. But with such an extravagant selection of foods available, Ofelia could not stop herself. Once two grapes slipped past her lips, the Pale Man came to life. He was a vile, hideous, and rebarbative humanoid monster with pale elastic skin and had an immense appetite for small defenseless children. With eyeballs set in the palm of his hands, he cornered Ofelia. After devouring her fairy companions alive, even biting one in half, the Pale Man set his sights on Ofelia. Though she was able to escape, this specific scene from the movie Pan's Labyrinth, scared Calanthe senseless. Her parents thought it was a kids movie, so on a day when neither of her parents were around to pay attention, she slipped the DVD into the player. She should have turned it off after experiencing the dark opening or the swears uttered by the movie's antagonist, but Calanthe could not turn her eyes away from the screen. Even though she watched the movie until the end, the Pale Man haunted her dreams that night and he has yet to go away.
Amortentia: Burning Sage, Old Books, Black Tea, Ocean Breeze
Birthplace: Gangneung, South KoreaA small seaside city on the eastern edge of South Korea, Gangneung is her mother's hometown. Her mother was adamant that she give birth to Calanthe in the coastal city. The quaint village-like city was very different from anything in Seoul, the country's capital. While Seoul was high-tech and bustling, Gangneung was slower and more-laid back. It held a very special place in her mother's heart and on various visits to see her grandparents, the city became special to Calanthe as well. Her father had no connection with the place or the country, despite being Korean, but Calanthe loved exploring the city with him. From the hikes along magical trails of the Taebaek mountains to the early morning cricket games on the beach, she truly began to love her birthplace and cherished the time spent there very much. It was like an escape from her life in the busy town of Brighton. Not many people cared about Gangneung other than its residents until the recent Winter Olympics events were held there and even after the events concluded, the city regressed back to its slowed-down pace.
Hometown: Brighton, EnglandCalanthe's parents really had a thing for the sea. Brighton, a resort town on the coast of the city of Brighton and Hove, was the ideal hometown for Calanthe. She frequented the Palace Pier with her family, starting almost immediately after birth. The pier is her favorite place in the world and she feels that even after 10 years of living in Brighton, she can still find new corners or attractions to try out. The North Laine is her father's favorite place; a street of hippies, colours and complete oddities. She regularly went out with him to this location to shop or dine at little cafes. It was also an amazing spot to meet new or experienced Dungeons and Dragons players, and sometimes her father would even invite them over to their house for a one-shot. In essence, Brighton was the perfect place for the imaginative little Calanthe with hundreds of contemporary art galleries and the annual Brighton festival. Where Gangneung facilitated the explorer in Calanthe, Brighton got her creative juices flowing.
AppearanceCalanthe supposes she should have surmised that something was up after she reached the age to take notice of her features. Dark hair, pale skin and red lips ran in neither the Choi family nor the Kim family. Both sides sported sandy black, almost brown hair, with skin colours one would most definitely not find a foundation match for on the streets of Seoul. She guessed that the tan skin of her parents came from living in coastal cities all their lives, but her own white skin begged to differ. Looking at it now, Calanthe was very different from both her parents. She was short and they were tall. Her nose tip angled downwards and their nose tips were angled up. Her forehead was big and theirs were small. Her lips were larger, her eyes were further apart, and her fingers and toes held no resemblance to their own. She can’t believe she missed every one of these warning signs.
Prior to learning that she was not descended from the Choi family, Calanthe was a very proper young girl; white stockings tucked into tiny Mary Janes, plaid dresses and sophisticated headbands. She exuded the graceful presence of her well-respected family. Her hair was always combed neatly and pulled back. A demure smile invariably found itself onto her face and her back was consistently erect. This was not the appearance she preferred, but she worked hard to upkeep it since her family had somewhat of an image.
After discovering her real father, Calanthe threw all of this out the window. Her family was certainly not of such high stature that she needed to ignore her own preferences. Though, instead of wearing what she wanted, Calanthe decided to be a bit more provoking. No longer was her hair orderly or her clothes cosmopolitan. She regularly left the house without taking a brush through her locks and dressed in dark colours. A permanent scowl etched itself onto her face and she habitually stuck her fists into her pockets, shoulders hunched or slumped. A case could be made that she was trying just as hard as she used to when preening her previous appearance, but the looks of surprise and disdain on her parents’ faces made this all worth it.

Act I。Sweet Home BrightonIn the year of Iron Man, Mamma Mia and Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition, Calanthe Choi was brought into this world. Her father had created a D&D character sheet just for her, placing the highest stats into Wisdom and Charisma and giving her proficiencies in Streetwise and Insight. A small ink handprint on the top left corner of the page made it her own. It was clear what kind of child he hoped she would be and Calanthe mostly followed through. Growing up in Brighton was the perfect place to put these traits to use, whether it was haggling down prices of unique jewellery or scoring free go-arounds on the Palace Pier roller coasters. She made the town of Brighton her own and adored its colourful atmosphere.
Calanthe loved spending time with her parents, her father especially, and would rather hang out with them than the people at her school. She spent a lot of her own free time with her father, a majority of which was spent playing D&D or other tabletop RPGs. She saw many faces pass through her home’s basement as her father was an esteemed Dungeon Master. This allowed her to develop personable skills and create a very alluring personality. Playing D&D was a past time spent mostly with her father, but her mother joined in on hundreds of late nights watching countless movies. Calanthe was lucky that, even though her parents were very busy with their high-level jobs, they would always make time to introduce her to the nerdy activities of their childhood. And lucky for them, Calanthe revelled in it.
Intermission。Sixteen ComplicationsWhen the mug of black tea exploded at the blink of Calanthe's eyes, no one made the connection, not even the young girl herself. When the hefty Narnia omnibus flew off the shelf as Calanthe reached for it, her mother started taking notes. When her favorite pink die landed on 20 for every roll while playing D&D with her father, Calanthe finally started paying attention. Her father did too.
Act II。The Ugly TruthDesperate to hide this new development for fear that she would be punished, Calanthe did everything she could to isolate herself from her parents, no matter how uncharacteristic it was; locking herself in her room, skipping Star Trek Saturdays and even refusing to go out on morning runs. Her parents, though, barely noticed. They were caught up in their own tirades.
The shouting got so bad one night that Calanthe could hear them through her bedroom walls.
"I can't deal with you right now! I don't even want to see your face!" such a loud outburst was atypical from her father.
"Please, please, just listen to me! What's done is done, but we need to do something about this," her mother never needed to plead to her father. They were always an understanding couple.
After months of the same, during which her father barely came home and her mother made only half-hearted attempts to care for her, Calanthe's parents fished her out of her bedroom. She remembers the day very clearly. Grey skies and loud thunder, but it was still bright like the sun forcefully broke through the gloom to remind her of who she was; a diligent, kind girl. Hesitantly making her way downstairs, she came face to face with a stranger. He sat on the family's living room couch, an untouched glass of water in front of him and a distant, pained look on his face. He did not meet her eyes. She was ushered to sit with him and her father quickly exited the house.
"Cal, we have to tell you something. It's going to be a bit shocking but you need to listen fully. It's important."
And then Calanthe understood her father's anger, because it began boiling in her too.
How could her mother cheat on her father? With a man who wanted nothing to do with her afterwards, no less. How could she never come clean about it until now? How could she never have thought that maybe, just maybe, Calanthe was this stranger's kid and not her father's? How could she expect Calanthe to believe that this stranger - Amos - was a wizard and Calanthe had inherited his magical ability? How could they put Calanthe through such distress during the last few months without telling her anything? Why did this confession take so long?
This was all too much. She spent days bundled in her room after that, refusing to see either of her parents. The anger did not go away. Calanthe could not believe that she had spent her entire life being a perfect little angel for nothing. All her effort felt wasted and she was so tired of putting up a front.
So she stopped.
Post-Credits Scene。Someone's Gotta GiveOn a hot, August morning, Amos barged into Calanthe's room with a lit cigar in one hand and a thin wooden stick - a wand? - in the other.
"B-but I locked the door!"
"Hah, that's cute. Get dressed and get your crap together."
"Why?" raising an eyebrow and kicking her feet back onto her bed.
"We're going shopping."
"I don't want to go shopping," Calanthe could not even dream of the day she denied shopping or her parents' requests, until now.
"Do I care?" the stare-off between them was intense, with Amos' half-smirk winning out. "The answer is no, I don't. Be down in five," and he walked out.
She was down in ten, with wild, uncombed hair and the darkest, most unsophisticated clothes she could find. Not even looking at her parents, she left with Amos and definitely gave some Diagon Alley shopkeepers hell on that day.

PersonalityGivers are people-focused individuals. They are extroverted, idealistic, charismatic, outspoken, highly principled and ethical, and usually know how to connect with others no matter their background or personality. Mainly relying on intuition and feelings, they tend to live in their imagination rather than in the real world. Instead of focusing on living in the “now” and what is currently happening, Givers tend to concentrate on the abstract and what could possibly happen in the future.
Before the revelation of her real parentage, Calanthe was an exemplary Giver. She loved people and was quick to make friends despite the extended time she spent around her parents. Loving and sweet, Calanthe was a perfect, little angel. After the revelation, however, Calanthe tries her hardest to depart from being a Giver. Rude, aloof and indifferent to the people and situations around her, she acts like she does not care about anything. This is far from the truth as Calanthe's old personality is always threatening to break through. In fact, it is quite taxing to keep up such a discourteous disposition. Calanthe only longs to return to her parents arms, to question Amos on every inch of the wizarding world, to make new friends at Hogwarts. But pride and hatred keeps her tied down.
