On July 15th, 2007, Mac was born to Martin and Cathleen Murphy. He was brought home to their farm in Northern Ireland, where he would spend most of his life. The Murphys are a tight-knit family, and a large one at that. The old saying 'it takes a village' rang true for them when little Mac came along. His five older siblings were just as involved in his upbringing as his parents were, if not more.

He was closest to his mother, Cathleen. Though she was a muggle, she was and still is the best witch that Mac ever had the honor of knowing. She was a practicing Wiccan who passed her knowledge and traditions down to her children. Though his father respected her beliefs, he was not a Wiccan himself. As much as he loved his wife, he never put any stock into the so-called 'magic' Cathleen spoke of.

Mac did, however. He hung on every word and soaked up all the information he could with undying enthusiasm. Despite being muggle-born, he learned of magic from a very young age, though not nearly the same as what they would teach at Hogwarts. Under his mother's guidance, he was taught to respect the Earth and all living things that inhabited it.

Their acreage was remote, surrounded by trees and isolated from the rest of the world. Mac's playgrounds were the streams and canals that ran through the forest. It never ceased to fascinate him, how teeming with life this forest was. Underneath every stone was a new insect or lizard waiting to be seen. In every stream was an unseen treasure trove of aquatic wonders. Around every corner was a mother deer nursing its child, while a predator stalked their every move. Nature was as beautiful as it was dangerous, and Mac couldn't get enough of it.

He was home-schooled for most of his life, so he didn't have many friends outside of his siblings. When he was lonely, the forest was always there to comfort him. It became like a second home to him. Much of his free time was spent bug-catching, wading in the creaks, or trying (in vain) to get the squirrels to warm up to him. There were many times when he'd get yelled at by his father for bringing home spiders in jars, or even the occasional stray pup he'd find on the trails around his home. That hardly ever stopped him from trying, though.

Though playing in the woods was tolerated when he was young, his father eventually grew impatient with him. There was work to be done around the farm, and Martin would have no son of his known as spoiled. The moment he grew old enough to carry his weight, he was put to work. Much of his time was spent grooming sheep, toiling in the fields, and scrubbing out the chicken coops. As much as the forest called to him, Mac simply didn't have the time or energy to answer.

Reading became his newest form of escapism. If his hands were free, Mac was all but guaranteed to have his nose buried in a book. There were times when he'd miss a whole night's worth of sleep to read the last few chapters in his newest novel. His brothers and sisters often teased him for it, but he knew it was in jest.

On his eleventh birthday, he received a letter, which he nearly thrown out with the rest of their junkmail before one of his siblings noted that it was addressed to him. It was an invitation to Hogwarts. Confused and unsure of what to do, he brought the letter to his mother. Though initially shocked, she told him that he should take the opportunity to go.

She explained to him that his great-grandfather told her of a place called Hogwarts when she was a girl. He said that he would've attended there, had he been blessed with magic like his parents before him. He was old and senile, so the rest of her family had never put stock into the things he'd said, especially not anything about a magic school in Scotland... but Cathleen had always wondered...

Despite his father's objections, Cathleen allowed him to attend Hogwarts. He's always believed in magic, of course, but the magic he'd been raised on wasn't nearly as incredible as the true magic in the wizarding world. He wants to learn everything he possibly can, not only to make his mother proud, but to be true to himself, as well. He's fascinated by magical creatures and hopes to one day become a magizoologist.

‧͙⁺˚*・༓☾Personality☽༓・*˚⁺‧͙
Mac is a warm, tender-hearted soul who's passionate about the things he cares about, whether it be his friends or his newest interests. He's shy around new people, but once he's broken out of his shell, he can be quite the chatterbox. He often rambles without realizing it, much to his dismay. He's very easily flustered, and often embarrasses himself over the littlest things.

He is rather naive, and tries to see the best in everyone. However, this also means that he's easily taken advantage of and susceptible to peer pressure. He believes that there's good in everyone's heart, even if it isn't immediately obvious.

Above all, he has an insatiable curiosity. Whether it be Divination or Defense Against the Dark Arts, Mac wants to not only learn all that he can, but become the very best that he can possibly be. His thrist for knowledge can often land him in trouble, however, as sneaking into the library to read the forbidden books or plotting to break into the CoMC professor's office to catch a peak at a Hippogriff are both surefire ways to land you in detention.

Their daring, nerve, and chivalry | Set Gryffindors apart
Maggie Parker. A fun-loving girl with a penchant for mischief. Mac met her in his first year, and they've remained close friends since.
Boniface Murtagh MacTavish. Hogwarts' very own Professor of Herbology. Mac has a lot of respect for him.
Image
Image
Those cunning folks use any means | To achieve their ends
Nico Shymane. She seems nice, if a bit skittish. He would've expected different from a Slytherin prefect, though that's certainly not a bad thing.
Dale Kurt. One of Mac's cabin-mates. They don't know each other very well, though...
Image
Image
Where those of wit and learning | Will always find their kind
Tatiana Crane. An artistic and kindhearted person, Tatiana is a good friend, though admittedly one that Mac doesn't know as well as he should. He can't wait to get to know her better.
Theodore Matthews. A boy with... very high energy, to say the least. Though Mac has a hard time keeping up with him, he likes Theo a lot, and considers him to be a close friend.
Image
Image
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true | And unafraid of toil
Dennis Harris. Mac's quill pal. They owl each other often. They promised to stay in touch over the summer, though seeing as Dennis missed his train ride home, they won't have to worry about it too much.
Fumiko Tachibana. Fumiko seems like a sweet girl, though Mac doesn't know her very well. At the very least, she liked his cooking, which makes her an okay person in his book.
Carson Miller. One of Mac's cabin-mates. Definitely a fun person to be around. Mac enjoys his company.
Oliver Lock. Another cabin-mate, though he and Mac have never spoken. He's sure they'll have plenty of time to get to know each other over the summer.
