Tanya looked at the textbook just one more time, reading it carefully. She ran her thumb over the smooth wood of her wand, feeling warmth run through her, a mixture of excitement and happiness. She loved watching the effects of the magic. She grabbed a teacup and smashed it once more. Water spilled everywhere. Once more, she lifted her wand up and watched the water drip onto the floor. Drip, drip, drip. She waited until the water had spread sufficiently before beginning the spell. Carefully, but also competently, she swished her wand in an odd triangular spiral and said in a clear voice, "Reparo".

She watched in wonder as the teacup shards lifted into the air, then clicked together perfectly, the porcelain making a perfect tinkling noise. Water flew through the air, hovering above the teacup until it had landed on the table once more, then softly landed in the newly-repaired cup. Excitement ran through her as she walked over to the cup. It was filled with water again. She knelt, touching the carpet that had, just seconds before, soaked up the water. It was completely dry.

Smiling, she got back up and grabbed the cup again. Good, very good job. That was the first time I was able to bring all the water back to the cup. Now keep on doing it until it sticks and I'm able to do it every time! She smashed the cup against the table again, then pushed the water around again. She watched it spread and fall off the table, then waited for it to soak into the carpet again. Finally, she got back up and stepped further away than she was before.

The dark walnut wood wand felt warm in her hands, she couldn't help but feel that it was as happy and excited as she was. She lifted it up, then repeated the spell. Once more, the watched the teacup lift up and fix itself, then settle back down on the table where she placed it. Water soared up and landed gently in the teacup. Again, she walked over to the table, feeling around for any sign of wetness. She looked over the rug carefully, and couldn't help but admire its beauty. She'd never been one for rugs on the floor, but she had to admit that this piece was beautiful. Satisfied that the rug was dry, she picked up the teacup and smashed it again.

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Dhampir

Once again Neculai found himself soaking wet. Seated on top of one of the many caravans of the Lazar Clan. The thestrals flying through the air and pulling the caravans that were tied to their long, black and fragile looking bodies. His uncle, Ivan Lazar, was steering these mighty creatures through the biting wind. Neculai's long black hair was sticking to his face because of the pouring rain. He had a pale, almost corpse like skin colour, blood red eyes and when he wanted to feed upon his victim, fangs would unsheathe. It wouldn't be too much longer and they would finally arrive. His family were gypsies. They never knew where they'd end up, they just follow the road and would see where they'd end up. But not today, today was unlike any other day. They'd finally return to Romania. It had been a year since they'd been there. Neculai was filled with anticipation as he'd finally reunite with his mother and father.

Neculai wasn't a child of any ordinary gypsy family. You see, he was a Dhampir. His father was a full blood vampire and part of the old and pure Lazar Clan. This Clan originates from back in the time that Merlin had wandered the earth. The Lazars, were old and proud, that they had maintained their bloodline as pure as possible. No one of the family had mingled with something his grandparents had labelled as the 'lesser beings'. They loathed magic and anything that came with it. But like any other family you had some black sheep. His father, Luca Dragos Lazar, was the black sheep of this particular family. He had developed a certain fascination for magic. Much to the distaste of his grandfather, Rasvan Lazar. He had met a young and dashing witch in a city named Sighișoara where she was staying. The witch was named Wanetta Grigorescu. Wanetta was a Magizoologist that was researching some of the Romanian Longhorns at the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary. At a very young age she had become fascinated by all of the magical wildlife there is to find.

In the city of Sighișoara where she was staying, he had seen her. Mesmorized by the beauty that a ‘lesser one’ like a witch could have, he was intrigued. Luca had decided to follow her around to learn more about this fascinating ‘specimen’. There was something different about her, he just couldn’t label her as a source of food. So Wanetta had departed from where she was staying to the Reservation. Some of the Dragonhandlers working in the Reservation had seen a young man near the Reservation. They had described him as pale as a marmar column with raven black hair and blood red eyes. When most of the wizards had laid their eyes upon his visage, they had experienced a feeling of unease. A foreboding signal that nothing good would come out of this. They had talked to Wanetta and pleaded for her to warn the Ministry of the Vampire. So they could maybe sent some Aurors to guard the Reservation as he might be out for the Dragons blood! Wanetta had dismissed all of this as nonesense as nobody lived here anymore. So when he had returned the day after, she had gone up to him. The feelings of unease grew stronger as she came closer to the mysterious Vampire. Clearly seeing this wasn’t any imagination from the other Dragonhandlers. It had taken all of her self restrain to not grab her wand to feel herself safe. Drawing her wand at him, would have maybe antagonised him and that surely wasn’t her goal. No… Her goal was to talk to the Vampire and see what she could learn from him. After all, this was her first time encountering one. They had engaged in conversation.

From that day they had met every day, Wanetta interviewing him to get as much knowledge about Vampires as possible and Luca learned more and more about what magic was and that it wasn't something to fear or loathe as he had been led to believe by his father. Rasvan Lazar wasn't a very patient man, nor a fool. Rasvan was the Head of Clan Lazar and thus knew every little thing that was going on in camp. Where everyone went and what they would be doing that day. Thus he had grown suspicious of his eldest son’s little escapades in the city. When he had followed him one night he had seen how he had gotten close with this wretched 'vermin'. Infuriated that his legacy had come close to what he labelled as nothing more than walking blood bags or food sources, he was overcome by anger and had grabbed the witch by her robes and thrown her in the air, causing Wanetta to smash through a table. Rasvan only needed another second and he had his fangs inches from Wanetta's throat when he was interrupted by Luca. Luca declared that he had fallen in love with Wanetta and that she was pregnant of his child. Rasvan a proud Vampire and the Head of one of the oldest and purest Clans that roamed Romania looked upon his eldest son as defiled.

Rasvan had decided that Luca had to be banished and struck from all records of his Clan. To keep his shame hidden and his bloodline pure. He had returned to his Clan broken and ashamed of his eldest son. Years had passed and six years later he had ventured back to Sighișoara. Seeing his grandson he had decided to take him with him, to right the failure that was his son. Desperate as he was, he saw this as a second chance to raise his eldest son, but now in the form of Neculai. When Wanetta had known of this she had tried to reason with Rasvan to return her son home. That it was necessary that Neculai knew of his heritage of magic when the signs would show. Rasvan would hear none of it. Seeing no other option then to keep her son safe with her, she drew her wand and was thinking of spells she could call upon to fight the threat that was her father-in-law. Out of nowhere Luca had shown up, just in time to halt his wife from making a grave mistake. He knew that both of them wouldn't be able to defeat such an old Vampire as his father. So he had tried to reason with Rasvan and so they had made a deal. Every year the Lazar Clan would return to Sighișoara, so that Neculai could see his parents again and still be with his own kind.

Rasvan had only told five of the eldest of his Clan the truth about his eldest son's shame and that Neculai was the offspring of this very mistake. He had then turned to Ivan, his second son and twin brother of Luca, to raise the boy as his own. Ivan was like his father a follower of the old ways and had tried to instill as much of his knowledge, heritage and history of what being a Vampire is upon young Neculai. The others, Rasvan had told a story that Luca had died by the hands of a Witch that was hunting the Lazar Clan and that he had avenged his demise. It wasn't until the first signs of magic that Ivan was kept in the loop and had known the truth about Neculai's heritage. Furious at first, to only later see reason in his father's decision. Ivan had asked Rasvan to accompany Neculai every year to his parents and tell the Clan that they would be out hunting. Which Rasvan had obliged to.

Suddenly the trail of caravans took a dive towards the surface and Neculai was taken out of his thoughts. From beneath him tree tops set up in the clouds. As they kept descending, a clearing was visible in the centre of the forest near Sighișoara. There they would set up camp and stay for the coming month. Neculai looked up at his uncle. His uncle smiled and whispered: "Welcome home, Neculai. You'll see your parents tomorrow."

Why this fits Dan:

Dan had always been small. Scrawny would be what people who were less than nice would call him. But, being small came with several advantages. Such as, being adorable. He was always good at that one. But another big advantage would be that he was deceptively fast, and surprisingly agile. Compounding with that, being small meant he was harder to hit, even if he was standing still, let alone aware and moving.

Dan decided that he wanted to improve this further. Dan's performance in the Quidditch Match against Ravenclaw had clinched the win for Slytherin, but he had still gotten hit TWICE, and had to be saved TWICE. That was simply unacceptable. He was happy that his teammates had his back, but they wouldn't be able to do their part in upcoming matches if they were having to snatch him out of the air every time a bludger came flying at him.
The same held true for his duel against Arc. He'd gotten nailed with a curse right out the gate, and it was due to that that he'd lost. Arc had been nice about it when he could very easy have lorded it over him, but he wasn't sure if that made him feel better or worse. Either way, it was something that pushed him to further increase his 'hard-to-hit-ness'.

But how to do it? He'd watched plenty of anime and action movies, so he knew how dodging worked, in its basic sense. but that wasn't going to be enough. He needed to practice. But how? He highly doubted the professors would allow him to loose two bludgers and have them gun solely for him for a few hours a day. And even if they did, Dan had a sneaking suspicion that it was a bad idea. That, and the nurse would have his arse for sure if he did that and showed up with broken limbs.
After a few hours of thinking, he came up with an idea. Maybe some of his house mates would help. At any rate, the last thing it would do was hurt to ask.

It took a little while; a lot of them had better things to do, but Dan finally found some who would help out. They even agreed to only use the tickling charm on him, which helped quite a bit. At least there would be no injuries, but Dan was still slightly apprehensive, given his ticklishness. But, better merciless tickling than pain and injuries, he guessed.
And so, for 3 weeks solid, they trained his dodging skills.  Before long, Dan was quite satisfied with the results, both in being able to dodge better, and that, from all the spells that did hit him, he got a good bit of an ab workout every day from all the laughing.
He smirked. Arc may not have so easy a win next time.

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Prodigal Potions Learner
Describe why this fits your character:

Myrina has wanted to be a healer since her mother’s death under mysterious circumstances while working for the Department of Mysteries. She does not know the exact cause of her mother’s death, but feels a sense of betrayal that she could not be saved. In addition, she feels that her mother’s death broke apart her family by causing her father to distance himself from her in his grief. Myrina is driven by the desire to insure that no one else should ever have to endure that loss and despair.

Myrina’s first bout of accidental magic came when she was five years old. She was upset that the family’s famous Opscuro roses were gone for the winter. So she made them bloom even though there was snow on the ground. She has always felt more at peace in her family’s greenhouses and gardens than anywhere else. Myrina has an innate sense of what plants are dangerous, making gardening with magical plants much easier.

Her grandmother Margaret Rosewood is a renowned Herbologist and strives to nurture her granddaughter’s natural talents with plants by allowing her to help with rare specimens, especially medicinal plants. Myrina is capable of identifying and harvesting virtually every plant available at Broadmoor Manor, her family’s estate, with the exception of some of Margaret’s more experimental plants.

Herbology and Potions go hand in hand, so Margaret enlisted some of her professional colleagues to help Myrina reach her goals. She has undergone Potions tutoring with some of the foremost names in the industry, focusing mostly on tinctures and healing potions. Myrina is also familiar with antidotes to many poisons due to her work in the greenhouses with Margaret. Cultivating Venomous Tentaculas and Mandrakes is not for the careless or faint at heart. Myrina’s favorite flower is the larkspur because of its gorgeous dark blue color and the fact that it is poisonous to both animals and humans.

Of course, the Blackstone family is famous for their Opscuro or “darkened” roses, so named for how the blooms are so red as to be nearly black, especially in bud form. They are especially effective in sedatives and antiseptics. Myrina is capable of brewing several of these under Margaret’s -or one of her colleagues- supervision.

Myrina is particularly excited for Potions and Herbology classes at Hogwarts. She has pored over her textbooks and compared them with her notes from previous tutoring sessions. Myrina is determined to show her professors what she can do and excel in those classes above all others. It’s one more step towards her goal of becoming an effective Mediwitch.

Julie grew up in a relatively unruly and messy homelife, her mother worked two jobs, and her Dad lost as many each year and often left the home in disarray on his way to the local pub with his mates. Due to her parent's lives, the house often was an excessive mess, and Julie's need for some semblance of order and control drove her to be the one who tended the house. Early on in her life she began to pick up after her father, and always wanted to help her Mum as often as she could because she was always exhausted after work. This transitioned into Julie wanting to make the house completely spotless to take a load off of her Mum's shoulders, and often times she'd scrub and scrape at every morsel of detritus visible and invisible in the home. It was an unending process with a Father intent on his own needs rather than those of the household, but after a few years not even his messiest days could make even the slightest dent in the cleanliness. As a way to show her appreciation for her Mum, Julie spent an entire summer from her third year of primary school learning how to make a book cover from fallen autumn leaves, wanting it to look as beautiful as possible.

This newfound ability to complete something and know in her heart that not even the most meticulous of microbe could find even an atom of disarray began to foster her determination to see things through to fruition. Her way. When she began primary school, this meticulous nature expanded easily into her coursework, and the need to complete tasks to the same caliber as she did at home bled completely through. She worked tirelessly for every assignment and project, making sure everything she put together was to the same quality that she demanded from herself, and it quickly showed in her marks as she became a model performer. She assisted her classmates with their coursework, becoming a miniature tutor for some of those who weren't as comfortable with the work as she was.

This need to get everything just right was her chief coping mechanism for an unconventional upbringing, it was how she measured her self worth and her escape from the way the world worked in her little town. The introduction of the magical world would only further exacerbate this compulsion because now the coursework is fantastical in nature and inspires her even more to work three times as hard to get everything right. As a muggle-born she'll be playing catch-up on the ins and outs of the magical world, but everything she learns she will desperately desire to get it precisely right, and she will spend days and even weeks until her grasp on every piece of knowledge is as absolute as her excitement to exist in a world such as this. While the reality of this new universe worth of information is exciting, the need for perfection and control will be a defining factor in her growth at Hogwarts.

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Parselmouth
Describe why this fits your character:
When Duna was born her vocal cords were not fully developed, leaving her mute. She is unable to make any sounds. This, however, made Duna a great listener. You could tell her all your worries and she would just sit and listen for hours, with a comforting smile on her face. Despite this Duna found it very difficult to make friends because she was unable to communicate vocally with other children.
She would spend most of her free time wandering in the forest, befriending the plants and trees, because they too could not speak. She fell in love with nature and all it’s forms, having grown up on a farm in Iowa. Her favorites, though, were snakes.
Where Duna lived garder and rat snakes were common, as they would sneak into the chicken coop often. One morning, when Duna was nine, she went out to collect eggs. She opened the door of the coop to be met by a fully grown, black rat snake. I was six feet long, as fat as a baseball,  and poised, ready to strike at any moment. Duna dropped her empty basket in shock, she’d never been this close to a snake before, and it had its eyes locked on her, hissing.
Although, to Duna, it didn’t sound just like hissing. She could hear it say words. Duna stood and listened to the snake as it spoke. It told her that it had gotten stuck inside the coop while chasing a mouse. It was just scared and wanted out. It had ment no harm to her chickens. Duna smiled down at the snake and nodded in understanding. She knew what it was like to feel trapped.
Duna stood back from the chicken coop’s door, holding it open for the snake, whom she had decided to name Henry, to leave.
After a few moment’s hesitation and much confusion on the snake’s part, he wasn’t exactly used to humans actually understanding and not trying to kill him, Henry carefully slid out of the coop. He began twords the woods, but looked back to thank Duna before disappearing into the brush.
Duna quickly ran inside and told her parents that she had just made a friend. Her mother was excited that her daughter had made a new friend. Her father, on the other hand, immediately asked what her new friend was. Duna began on a huge tangent about Henry the snake and how she had heard him talk with real words! Duna was almost signing too fast for her parents to keep up.
Eventually Duna’s parents calmed their daughter down and were able to get the full story out of her, with less frantic arm movements this time. Her mother was both sad and frightened that her daughter had made friends with a snake instead with a human. Her father went to fix the hole in the side of the chicken coop.
Duna kept going out into the forest after that, trying to find more and more snakes around her home. She enjoyed listening to their conversations from afar and even helping a few snakes from time to time. Although, the snakes didn’t like it much. Once, Duna was able to move an overturned log away from the entrance of a snake’s den, allowing the mother to reunite with her eggs. Duna visited that spot often, and was overjoyed when the babys hatched.
Over the next two years Duna didn’t mention her ability to understand snakes to her parents again, seeing how they usually didn’t believe her stories. Her ventures into the forest became more of a neiborhood visit to all the hiding places of her ‘friends’. By the time Duna received her letter to Hogwarts, she had named almost every single snake in the forest behind her home. She was very sad to leave her little snake family behind when she left, she would have taken all of them with her to Hogwarts if she could.

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Sixth Sense

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Growing up in the countryside endowed young Ruth Iona Greer with what might be called a kind of sixth sense. She spent the first nine years of her life in Anstruther, a small fishing village in the Kingdom of Fife, Scotland. Close to St Andrews, the population is composed primarily from students and old people. Needless to say, there were few people for Ruthie to befriend save her younger sister, Kirsty. As a result, the ocean became her best friend and the natural environment her playground. Up with the dawn, she'd race down the pier to stand on her tiptoes and see if she could spot the puffins on the nearby Isle of May. In the afternoons, she'd jump through the rock pools, searching for starfish. If she found one, she'd stare at it and try to memorize the bumps in its skin. And at night, she'd help her father and the other town fisherman bring in the catch, where she would admire the colors of the haddock's scales from turquoise to navy blue. Her days were built on observation.

When under-whemed with Anstruther, Ross would take her daughter out to the Isle of May. Known for its wildlife, May proved to be a wonderful excursion for Ruthie who took to exploring every cave and crevasse, often to the point of in-sighting her father's fear. In particular, she'd watch the puffins as they sat on the cliffs. She loved seeing their chests rise and fall or the way they blinked when the sun poked through the Scottish clouds. She even got close enough to observe the familial acts of feeding from parent to child. And when rain came thrashing down, she'd escape into Robert Louis Stevenson's lighthouse and run up the stairs to put her eye to the telescope, where she could scan the waters for anything odd or out of place.

When the family relocated to Arisaig on the west coast, this ability only heightened. Arisiag is smaller still than Anstruther. And with regular jaunts across the sea to Skye, Ruthie became accustomed to observing nature and noticing the shifts within it with weather or wildlife. In particular, the sea is where her ability is perhaps the strongest. She spent so much time on water: swimming, fishing, and frolicking. On Arisaig or Skye, she could notice if the waves changed color or the sunlight revealed a jellyfish swimming up close to the surface. Noticing how things are allowed her to notice when things aren't right: like plastic on the shoreline.

Ruthie has yet to become fully aware of her ability to pick up on things quickly. She does it instinctively, but doesn't notice that she does this more often or more quickly than others. She assumes, naively, that others notice small things too. This is likely the result of her socially isolated childhood, which bore this ability, but this may change over time. Additionally, this skill has primarily been developed in the natural (muggle) world, but will adapt to noticing the landscape of magic details as well through increased exposure to the wizarding world.

Ability: Obnoxiously Strong

Description: A cut lip, a black eye, bruises, cut knuckles, and a smile. These are things that Kyle wore frequently. Ever since he was a young boy he had gotten into fights. Either with his best friend Duke or with Random boys around the school yard he was never more than a short conversation away from throwing punches. Truth be told, he learned how to take a beating long before he learned how to give one himself. That changed the day he was taken to his very first Boxing Match. IT was then he knew he needed to toughen up if he wanted his brawls to go more in his favor.

Push ups and sit ups were an easy thing to add to his routine every day, he didn't even need to spend any money to be able to do that. To make up for not having a punching bag he took some rope and a few spare pillows and blankets wrapped around a tree and suddenly he had something he could punch without breaking his hands, though his mother was most certainly not very pleased when she saw the blankets and pillows out in the rain the first time.

As he began to toughen up his father thought that Kyle was trying to toughen up to play Quidditch, and bought him his own Quidditch Bat and began to help him with batting Quidditch. Now not only was he strengthen his chest back and arms with his exercises he was getting used to the weight of his bat as he spent hours swinging at both nothing and hitting training bludgers over and over and over and each time he was able to knock the bludger farther until eventually he hit a bit of plateau because he was still after all, a pre-teen.

A few days before it was time to return to school for his second year Kyle caught his reflection in the mirror and for once he didn't immediately lock onto the scar from his werewolf bite. He couldn't help but notice how much he had filled out, not only over the years but over the summer he had started to bulk up and grow into his frame. He could notice some muscle definition and he smirked to himself as he flexed and looked at his growing muscles. Kyle knew one thing for sure, this was not a sign to stop. He was just gonna push himself harder, make himself stronger. Being tough wasn't enough, he planned on being obnoxiously strong!

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Dhampir
Why it fits:
Alaric Equinox came into this world October 27th, 1987 born from a Vampire father and a Witch mother. They were the couple that was meant to be doomed as Alaric’s grand entrance into this world ultimately took his mother’s life as there were just too many complications at birth. It was because of this that his father had very little contact with him. He taught him enough about being a dhampir to get him by and to control his cravings but his teachings were cold and often harsh. Since his father could not stand to look at him, given his resemblance to his mother, he was given a private tutor who was also of Dhampir decent.

Alaric’s father left for good when he was just 5 years old leaving him in a house in East Dorset, Vermont with his tutor Victoria, an elderly woman who also was alone in this world, she continued Alaric’s education where his father had left off. She taught him how to properly unsheathe his fangs, how to fight to protect himself, how to hunt animals, and probably most importantly how to apply makeup. The corpse-like look to his skin never suited him and often brought streams of rubies to fall from his eyes as he looked at himself in the mirror. Although he maintains his milky white complexion, he adds just enough makeup to get rid of the corpse-like appearance.

The day would come where he would gain a Hogwarts letter although he could have gone to Ilvermorny Victoria decided to owl Hogwarts and see if he would be accepted there feeling that getting away from the area that caused him so much pain would be better for him in the end. She was both right and wrong. Once he was accepted into Hogwarts and sorted into Slytherin the feeling of oppression lifted off of his shoulders he was accepted here even for what he was. There were always the occasional bullies who would make fun of him, push him outside on particularly sunny days, and ridicule him or goad him by asking if he wanted to bite them. He found himself in the infirmary many times getting treated for severe sunburns and although most would have sought revenge against the children who did this to him, he decided to ignore them and remain kind to others. Alaric rose above them he was determined to wipe away the stigma that came with being who he was. He was never 100% certain why he was placed into Slytherin because he was such a gentle soul but he knew the hat never lied and maybe it was that determination to prove that he was just like the rest that he was placed there.

He found that he was not particularly gifted in the casting of magic and it often took him much longer to master casting spells than his other classmates. It leads to him now as someone who does not cast a lot of magic instead, he focused on astronomy a practice that he mastered during his time as a student in Hogwarts. This was something that gave him the night owl hours that he preferred to keep although it is not unheard of to see Alaric out in the sunlight you may just see him under a sun parasol to protect his skin. Name of Ability: Fearless
Describe why this fits your character:
If Max had to pick the one emotion that ran the world, it would be fear. Sure, love could make people do crazy things and some spent their whole lives in pursuit of it, but it was still never quite as effective as fear. When people grew angry, when they lashed out, when they snapped harsh things while backed into a corner, it was all because of fear. Max knew this and, more importantly, Alisdair Avery did. You didn't get as far as he did in a lucrative underworld business system by not utilizing the emotion that gave you the most control over people. And so, naturally, this was one of the skills he felt was most prudent to pass on to the child who would eventually inherit his business.

From a young age, Max was taught how to quell the feeling of sweat trickling down his spine or shivers wracking his shoulders. He was exposed to all manner of monsters from dhampirs to lycanthropes to war veterans who had been on the losing side of the Wizarding War. He was forced to look them in the eye while they smiled with unfriendly teeth, and by the time this part of his 'training' was completed he could do it without flinching. Threats, proximity, the sight of weapons that could turn him inside out… He learned to ignore it all. And in doing so, he gained a measure of control over himself that it would be hard for even an adult to emulate if they weren’t prepared similarly. Even if deep down there was still a coolness that pooled in the pit of his stomach at the thought of facing a genuine killer, Max Avery was not a person to be intimidated by anyone or anything.

Now, at the age of 13 and as a student who knows a fair amount of spells, this ability will prove invaluable in duels just as it has during business deals. Max doesn’t falter in the face of anyone he fights and his mind doesn’t blank even when he’s up against an accomplished duelist or someone who might make others think twice. Perhaps it was this part of his training that was the cause for him ending up in a house of bravery rather than one of cunning. Either way, one better think twice before tormenting him because, no matter who they are, he isn’t afraid of tormenting back.
