Although a No-Mag-Born (Muggle-born) wizard, Kit's first display of magic was somewhat unusual even within the wizarding world. From the moment he opened his eyes and blinked at them, his No-Mag parents were astonished to notice his irises were heterochromatic; one being a bright blue and the other a very dark brown.

His parents, who were not very approving of the abnormal and weird, fussed over and discussed his eyes frequently, unable to look at their first-born child without being thrown off by his startlingly odd eye colors. Their feelings of trepidation, concern, and unease for how their strange child would grow up and manage in the world soon reached Kit. Even as young as he was, he could sense their distaste and unease and wanted to soothe them. The next time they went to him, he was nearly dropped, for his bewildered parents soon discovered that both his eyes had become the same dark brown that only his left had been before.

Though Kit had thought his parents would be pleased by the change, they were even more distraught than before, unsure if they had simply imagined the whole thing or if they were going mad. When his mother expressed something about liking the color of the bright blue right eye she thought he'd had before, he blinked and then his eyes were both blue, shocking the adults yet again. By then, neither parent could deny, as much as they might have liked to, that something was definitely...different about their baby, if not outright wrong.

Kit grew up with his parents trying to suppress even the smallest display of magic any chance they could get for fear of how Kit would be treated by the unforgiving world; a world that didn't treat those kindly who didn't conform to its social standards and norms. However, Kit - like most curious children - couldn't help but wonder why he was told to hide his abilities, especially when it seemed to so delight his friends. He would practice on his own or in secret with only a few peers.

However, the more he did it, the more he got scolded by his parents. The more he got scolded, the less he performed changes for the entertainment of his friends. And the less he performed, the more he realized just how little his so-called 'friends' really cared about him - not when he acted just as normal as anyone else. Once he left muggle school to enter the wizarding school of America, he learned that his ability was rare even among magical beings. The name they gave those with his talent was a metamorphmagus. Kit, who always enjoyed change and trying new things, couldn't have been more pleased to discover what metamorphmagi such as himself could eventually accomplish if they continued to put their powers to use.

Though he continued to practice and hone his powers for fun in secret, experimenting on his own, he was more careful as he grew. He learned that regardless of whether it was the No-Mag or Wizarding world, appearances were deceiving, causing him to come to the conclusion that they meant very little. So many people, especially during his teenage years and even at Ilvermorny, seemed to be swayed so easily by mere looks.

It began to make him pity them - like how a comely face could bewitch them as much as any love spell. There may have been an attraction there, but as far as he was concerned, it was usually shallow and fake. Soon, Kit began to look down on most if not all of his peers for succumbing to such superficial traits and he began to keep more to himself.

Once he graduated from Ilvermorny, Kit broke away from his family altogether. He moved out and changed his name along with his appearance, distorting his identity so they couldn't track him down, though it's difficult to say exactly why. It has been speculated that certain strains on his relationship with his parents - such as their disapproval of magic and his pursuit of an education and career regarding it - were great contributors to his decision, but no one seems to know for certain.

Nevertheless, he has done his best to use his abilities as a metamorphmagus to teach others what he learned growing up through his various experiences being what he was; that one shouldn't judge a book by its cover, because the contents might not hold what one might expect.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Cat's Grace

Since he was very small, Kit enjoyed drawing. As he grew, people and their stories began to interest more, causing him to want to people-watch and sketch random passers-by in parks and streets. Once he learned that he was a metamorphmagus and that studying people had further uses for him other than simply entertainment, he began to watch people even more frequently.

The problem was that people didn't often like to be stared at, especially by someone who tended to stand out like Kit did, because then they drew their own conclusions and often deduced that he was creepy. For this reason, Kit gradually taught himself how to blend in with his environment and become less conspicuous so as not to arouse the suspicions of those around him.

In addition, Kit has always seemed to specialize in kinetic intelligence, being very aware of his body and its movement and limits. This was probably a large part of why he ended up in the Wampus house of Ilvermorny; because of the house's focus on 'the body' as opposed to the mind, soul, or heart. Perhaps not without reason, the Wampus is a cat, and Kit had always been fascinated with how sure-footed and efficient cats were with their actions. Not a single movement ever seemed to be wasted among felines and Kit sought to follow their example, learning to behave the same way.

Learning to become less conspicuous was also half-taught to him by his parents, though indirectly. As conservative and practical as they were, they believed that standing out wasn't necessarily a good thing, particularly in the case of their peculiar first-born child. Ever since he'd sensed the disapproval of his odd eyes as an infant, Kit had tried to change himself to match the standards they held him to; a kid they could be proud of. However, that wasn't who he was; and the more he tried to suppress it, the more evident that truth became to him.

Although he eventually parted from his family to free himself from his parents' restrictive ways, Kit had become careful not to stand out too much in the public eye and in society in general so as to be able to lead a relatively normal life if he needed to. With his life free to live as he pleased, he felt a little more relaxed regarding how much he allowed himself to stand out among conservative communities.

However, he never really forgot how to blend in, considering the ability to be quite practical and useful for someone such as himself. Even in Hogwarts today, as a caretaker who is free to stand out as much as he cares to, standing out isn't necessarily his priority or preference. Kit knows that being able to remain inconspicuous most definitely has its advantages; especially while there are mysterious antagonists at work on the castle grounds.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you are applying for:Parselmouth
Describe why this fits your character(not why you the player want it ):
Many wizards claim that being parselmouth is a horrible talent, that any wizard can inherit, who is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin. But what if you are evil? Katherine is after all her own person and she loves to be mischievous and evil. She always gets in trouble all by herself, no one needs to tell her to and her talent is certainly not the reason for it.

Katherine's family is a very rich and powerful one. For a long time, ever since medieval times, countless members of her family were regarded as wicked, for example, her aunt Bella, who is Katherine's role model, evil and merciless [Mod note: Who is not in any way the same person as Bellatrix Lestrange nee Black. No affiliation, a mere coincidence in name and manner].
Not that it matters here. Parselmouth is a talent that fits Katherine because it is rare and unique, barely anyone possesses it. To Katherine, it is a sign of power. She always found them to be misunderstood creatures, who are feared by many. Knowing better gives her an advantage.

Ever since she was little, most people in Katherine's life were not the sort of people, who one would think of that they would have a good influence on children. They didn't give her the opportunity to enjoy her childhood but instead taught her to always be the perfect child of her pureblooded family. Everything had to be perfect, she never had anything but the best, no matter if it was education, clothes or toys. It wasn't too bad, the Labrouders never had financial problems and they always fulfilled Katherine's materialistic wishes... But she was alone and never really got to go out, all she had was her pet cat, who she accidentally turned into a snake. It was a snake ever since, as Katherine never figured out how to turn it back and after a while, she also didn't want to anymore. The snake became her friend and it was as if it understood Katherine. The girl could communicate with her pet in a way that reminded her of talking to a human. Katherine always got attached to snakes, because she understood their problems. She realized that she could understand them because she had the same problems. No, not their rat problems, but their existential problems. Like her, they were misunderstood and mistakenly seen as wrong and bad.

As Katherine grew up, she turned more confident and more careless. It didn't matter what people thought, as long as they showed her respect, or even feared her. She was homeschooled by her parents for a while, but never really learned anything. Many of the lessons turned into arguments with her father, who could never quite accept what his daughter was like and never missed a chance to let her know. Katherine usually then stormed up to her room and stayed with her snake.
She grew up as an evil, ruthless and mischievous person, but if there was one thing Katherine was not, then it was self ashamed. The girl knew, who she was and learned to wear it as her armour, not as a weakness. It was not her talent, that turned her evil, but that saved her.
Her snake, her loyal friend and companion was the one, who kept her from breaking under her father's intolerance.

First-year ability: Terrible Presence
Describe why this fits your character:
Reducio
There has always been something off about Lana, though her parents were never able to put their finger on it. It was almost as if she was ghastly just to be around, and if you stared at her too long you'd get shivers down your spine.

Lana Monet is a terrifying girl to encounter, whether it be the rare smile that she gives you or the dreadful glare she's always found to be wearing. Lurking in the shadows, she blends in easily with her dark attire. She is believed to be evil, perhaps even wanting to grow up and be a dark witch herself.

It's practically impossible to befriend her, though not many try anyway. A few have slipped through the cracks, but she finds they always leave her after the first month. She has come to live with this, as she knows acquaintances just slow her down anyway.

The students who pass her in school seem to avert their gaze, unable to make eye contact. Why this is, Lana couldn't even tell you. She'd never made friends, though this was upon her own accord more than anything. She found if people didn't like her, she'd just make herself unbearingly worse just to spite them. She's known as a bully, though really it goes much deeper than that.

She finds that she has to be evil, that she has to be a disgusting sort of girl to get by. Otherwise, what was she, really? She hated her life as a child, and now that trauma was carrying itself into her teenage years. Although she refuses to admit it, deep down she really is scared. I'm not even sure she's aware of how terrible she is, and instead is just blinded by her awful aura.

She has found that she has no morals, and if she does they could certainly be considered questionable. She's a bully, a sadist, and overall an evil person. She knows the students here at Hogwarts aren't aware of what she's capable of, nor does she plan on revealing such secrets to them.

Her reputation precedes her, though not in a positive way. Practically everyone in school knows about her, though should they dare interact is something they'd never try. You could almost say Lana is going insane, or at least not in the right headspace to attend a private school. Though alas, she remains in Hogwarts, potentially a threat to herself and others.

Second-year ability: Fearless
Describe why this fits your character:
Reducio
"You have to face your fears Lana. It's unnegotiable." Her father said angrily, obviously fed up with her current crying. Lana wiped at her eyes, shaking her head to indicate she wasn't ready. He ignored her pleas, and instead grabbed her arm tightly, forcing her to follow him.

She knew what was coming; where she was going. She tried to break free, though her nine year old strength could not possibly overpower a grown man. She screamed, calling her mother's name, Dala's name, anyone who could help her. Her father continued walking, stopping at a large iron door. He opened the latch, pushing her in not too hard.

He looked as if he was sorry, though his actions spoke otherwise. He shut the door back, engulfing Lana in bleak silence are pitch-black darkness. She began to weep, her tears falling softly onto the cold stone floor.

It was true that Lana didn't scare easily, or at all for that matter. Growing up in the Monet Manor had shaped her into the girl she was today, though that wasn't necessarily a good thing either.

Her childhood was terrible, treated as if she rag doll with no emotions. She'd had her fair share of horrifying experiences, being directly face to face with her worst fears. Her parents hadn't cared, yet they swore they loved her. She believed it, or at least she wanted to. She wanted to trust them, and so she tricked her mind into doing so.

Throughout her youth, her father insisted on "lessons", though the topics of these lessons were far from questionable. She would be forced to face her fears, witness death first hand, and other terrifying encounters no child should ever have to experience. It was evil, the things her parents put her through. Though she was too young to see the toxicity of it.

Despite her incredibly high ego on having feared nothing, this technically was not true. There was one thing that could get her, despite how hard she tried to block it out of her life. It seemed to be forever there, engrained in her brain for her to see every single day. It haunts her, practically driving her mad as each day drags on.

Aside from such fear, though, she cannot be emotionally stunned by anything else. The angry Ravenclaw has assured herself that she could encounter anyone and anything without failing. She fills the void of having no fears with inner-hatred, a despise of anyone she'd met, discernible personality or not.

Ability: Prodigal Charms Learner
Description: In the reducio below...
Reducio

Sarah was a Slytherin though and through. Her ambition had alway guided her, shaping her to be the young witch she was today, pushing her to do her best in all walks of life - magical and not. She was a strong leader who was confident and outgoing with the ability to make people listen to what she said. She was cunning and resourceful, the traits working in tandem to help her get what she wanted when it was needed. She was and would always be a Slytherin down to the bone, but that didn’t mean she always didn’t display characteristics more commonly associated with other houses. Her intelligence was also a defining quality, one which brought out the Ravenclaw part of her. She was constantly reading ahead of many students her age, trying to learn more than was being taught because she simply enjoyed learning. She also enjoyed the power it gave her, knowing more than others her age. Particularly spells.

Growing up in a society which held such outrageous prejudices about people they deemed lesser had made her highly opinionated and strong-minded. She’d been the only child in a manor often filled with adults for a long time now and her drive to learn things herself, before they were taught to her, had given her an edge in many arguments. Like the time one of her father’s obnoxious business friends had suggested that Hogwarts become a ‘Pure-Blood only establishment’ and Sarah had delved not the history of how many a wizard of supposed ‘impure’ blood had actually greatly excelled if not saved the Wizarding World. Granted, the stunt had ended in punishment and Sarah had not been allowed to leave the manor for three weeks. Not that it mattered, she’d spent the time reading book after book about spells and charms and all things magical.

Charms had always been the magical subject which came most easily to Sarah. There was something so exciting about it - something which had sparked a fascination within her from the first time she’d started to fully understand her magic. Her first Charms class she’d ever taken here at Hogwarts had been eye-opening and she’d vowed to herself to keep up her ways and continue her studious ways. She could often be found in the library reading books far more advanced than her level, or by the Great Lake practising spells to perfection. It was rare for her to be seen without a book of charms in her arms. She was relatively smart all-round, her stubborn ways not allowing her to be anything but perfect in regards to learning, but she especially excelled in Charms. So much so that even at her age she was considering how she’d be able to get her love for spells into a career - perhaps teaching, maybe even entering Auror training. She was too young to know for sure. But what she did know was that her journey to learning ever spell and charm and jinx she could manage was only just beginning.

Ensley was born into a family of carefree adventurous people. Her mother and father always trying to teach their three children new skills. Unlike her brothers who followed their parents she has never felt the carefree adventuress feeling in life. The young girl often feeling like an outsider in her own family. She use to spend her time alone in her room working on her school work or reading. The left the poor girl to feel lonely more often than not because her siblings didn’t have a care in the world. Ensley always kept her room and desk perfectly neat and clean.
Ensley has always felt compelled to work hard and be the best version of herself that she could be. Even at a young age her parents could tell that she was a perfectionist. When she was still attending a muggle primary school she would spend hours upon hours on the same assignment to make sure it was perfect before it was submitted. Even during her classes would she spend the extra time she had doing assignments for the next day so that she had plenty of time to perfect them. Often class mates would tease her for her eagerness to learn and submit perfect assignments. This led to the girl’s distain towards others in fear of not being accepted with them.
Even in her extracurricular activities the tendency to be perfect was there. Her grandparents would take her out horseback riding a lot as a young girl. Upon learning how to ride for the first time she managed to have the saddle fall off multiple times before actually being able to saddle the horse correctly. Sometimes after multiple tries with unsuccessful results she will get upset and discouraged with herself. Her grandfather always told her to take her time and breathe and she will be able to get it.
Ensley has a tendency to be so focused on her work that it is hard to get her to stop or to sleep. She is highly critical of her own self which sometimes leads to her being critical of others as well. She can come off as judgmental sometimes but she only wants the best for herself and others. When she receives a bad grade she gets upset and can usually be found in her room hiding in fear that others will judge her for not being the best. Even when she completes a task to the best of her ability she has trouble accepting or celebrating when she succeeds. She pushed herself and others around her to inspire greatness.

All of her life, Norina had been the slowest. She was teased for it from her peers for taking the longest to complete assignments. When they were learning how to write in cursive, Norina was the last one left in the classroom as her teacher approached her desk.

“Are you alright, sweetheart?” she remembered her asking as she blinked up from the extensive lines of scribble on her paper. Looking around confused, she realized that she was the only one left in the classroom, completely unaware that the bell had rung to dismiss the class. “Yes Mrs. Abbott, I didn’t hear the bell ring,” she responded as she stood to pack her things.

Mrs. Abbott waited patiently as she placed every piece of paper in their correct folder and every pencil was returned color-coded back in its box. Mrs. Abbott was used to this behavior from Norina by now, she hadn’t changed since she stepped foot in the school, and all of the faculty knew it.

As she finally placed the last item neatly in her bag, she could’ve sworn that she heard Mrs. Abbott release a quiet sigh of relief as she headed toward the door. She turned around and wished her favorite instructor a good weekend as she entered into the hallway.

She had always been the first to arrive and the last to leave. It wasn’t that she hated her life at home because she acted the same when she was there too. She was always the last one to finish her chores around the house, almost missing dinner one night because she was taking too much time folding clothes that she believed her mother to have folded incorrectly.

She was teased at school because she wanted to make sure everything was perfect before she started on the next activity. Her classmates always completed their tasks so quickly, leaving behind a trail of utter chaos in their wake. Norina sat patiently, only asked questions when necessary, and never left a task until it was to her absolute satisfaction. Whether she learned this behavior from busying herself because her two younger brothers always grabbed her parents’ attention or from constantly having to help her mother as a third parent, she wasn’t sure.

When she was notified of her acceptance to Hogwarts, she felt as if it was her first chance to embrace who she was. She was very loyal to her family, this much was evident from the amount of time spent helping her mother, but maybe her attention to detail would finally pay off.

Why it Fits:

Sneaking around was always something that Sapphire had specialized in. She was always quiet, no matter the situation unless she had other intentions in mind. Maybe it was because of her bad past, maybe because it was just in her nature.

She had a habit of sneaking around, which probably wasn’t all that good but who cared? It wasn’t like they noticed her anyway. She just had trouble getting back the way she came, especially if she took something. She developed a habit of just walking through once and then waiting for whoever was there to leave. Or just creep through empty echoey places without a sound.

People used to comment on the lack of noise she made. They used to compliment it. But then they started to resent it since it allowed her to get past them. People didn’t like being ignored, she knew. She knew it from experience. People never noticed her, so she got information that they didn’t want her to have. They didn’t like her much for that. She could get past her siblings, who already didn’t much appreciate her existence. They liked her even less. She was easy to lose in a crowd, always able to wander off without her parents noticing. They didn’t like that.

Sometimes it was more the ability and less her that they didn’t like. Of course, not many people liked her either, but still.

At Hogwarts, it could be of great use to her. Especially in trying to get away from other people. It allowed her to sneak off to the library or avoid prying eyes or concerned faces. Not that she thought anyone would be concerned, but still.

While it was of great use to her, it was always extremely vexing for everyone else. They almost never found themselves able to catch her.

She would always get to places she shouldn’t be, but she couldn’t make it through extremely crowded places where everything was cramped. There were too many people in those situations. She would end up bumping into someone or something else would happen, and she didn’t like the possibilities of something else because there were plenty of bad things that could happen.

So she tended to stay in the shadows, in less crowded places and made sure that her ability to sneak around was as good as she could get it. Since she couldn’t seem to do much in ways of groups, she worked on the things that she could do on her own. Which entailed becoming about as graceful as a cat.

The Magnards had always been known for their beautiful women. Rose Magard had always kept a high reputation in her time at Hogwarts as a highly intelligent, talented, and classically beautiful young woman. It only made sense that such traits would be passed on to her own daughter.

Her mother having been the strong and independent woman she was, naturally there were some things that were considered more important then others in the upbringing of the young Illowy Magnard. Among these were intelligence, success, discipline, studiousness, and presence. These were all things that were taught to her at a young age as things to strive for in hopes of furthering herself in life. Rose knew that one thing that she'd never have to teach her daughter as something for her to strive for was beauty. There would never be a need to. From a young age, no one could argue she wouldn't grow to be a beauty, exuding natural grace and poise without trying. Just as her mother and the Magnard women before her had been.

The girl possessed ghostly pale blue eyes that commanded attention and sat against pale, lily skin, framed by long curls and waves of thick, dark hair. The picture of a raven haired, Irish beauty, likened before to one such described in the Highway Man poem of old. Even her very movements, deliberate and delicate in nature, echoed her physical beauty. Though she was never destined to be very tall, she had a small and svelte frame, with long arms and legs. Years of formal dance and ballet training conditioned her how to perfect such careful and lovely movements that came so naturally; to carry herself tall, head held high, and to give each carefree movement an implied meaning.

It never quite occurred to her that she might've possessed such striking elegance however, since it had never been put in the front of her mind to prioritize, much less notice it. As she got older, she began to notice people noticing her, and it still never occurred to her that it might simply be to steal a glance at the quiet, distant Slytherin beauty. To realize so suddenly that so many eyes were on you can be startling, especially for a young girl who had gotten away for so long with hiding in the shadows. She is a rose in bloom, the sun casting its light on her and illuminating her for all to see. Its no longer as easy to hide that which naturally radiates from her; classic beauty.

A B I L I T Y: Terrible Presence
A P P L I C A T I O N:

Reducio
Embedded right into the cold stones of Hogwarts is the spirit of competitiveness that can be found in the core of every single student. Whether it be in their own personal pursuits or a matter of house pride, it seems to be ingrained into its student body to have their differences. Rarely, if ever, would you see students from all houses and all walks of life agreeing on one thing altogether. Somewhat ironically, the fights in the hallways, the bickering, and the barely-veiled insults were a more common sight.

The single thing everyone in the school's hallowed halls can unanimously agree upon, however, is the fact that Dmitri Kazimir Jones is a terrible presence.

When you ask any individual residing inside the Hogwarts castle about the notorious Slytherin Jones, they'll surely be able to answer you along the lines of "he hates everyone."

And he truly does.

No encounter with the Slytherin fourth year seems to end on a positive note. You'll either wake up cursed, your self-esteem beaten into a pulp with bone-flaying insults, or your entire existence and purpose in this world questioned by the abrasive and cruel quips the student can throw rapid-fire.

The boy seems to be in a constant mission of trying to get as many people to despise him enough to leave him alone and avoid him at all costs. And honestly, for the fourteen-year-old boy, it sure did work entirely in his favor. Life at a wizarding school was much easier without the relationship and friendship drama that plague most, if not all, of the students his age. This aversion to people led him to quickly establish a notoriously outstanding place in the academic ranking and become one of the top-performing student wizards to date.

Needless to say, this only made things worse.

Soon enough, the boy has let it get to his head that he was better than any of his peers. This made him adopt an aura of disdain, haughtiness, and cruelty on anyone he deems inferior to him. If anything, most older students make it the first thing on their agenda to warn their younger counterparts away from Dmitri Jones' path. However, this doesn't stop all of them, and soon enough, those young children foolish enough to still approach the boy are met with horrible tongue-lashings or an intimidating quirk of a brow before being promptly ignored.

No more, no less.

It's a system that works for him. Avoid people, do your homework, profit.

The boy thrives on simple formulae like that. Thrives on things he can manage, handle, control. Anything complicated like emotions and feelings was entirely out of the question and will—if forced or repeated enough—be met with outright hostility.

Dmitri has been burned too many times.

He won't let it happen again.

DO NOT POST HERE: Application for Magical Races/Talents and Special Abilities
Link to your encyclopedia thread: https://www.hogwarts.io/viewtopic.php?f=169&t=13531
Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Cat's Grace
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

Six-year-old Lorelei sat in class, listening to everyone talk about their summer. Eventually, the teacher asked her.
"Well, my Mum and Dad and I went to our other house for most of the summer. Mum got it from her parents a few years ago. It's one of the only places Dad lets her..." She stops, remembering what Maggie had told her that morning

"Remember L, no one at school can know about magic. Don't say anything about it, okay?" Lorelei quickly changes what she was saying

"Clean. There's so much old stuff from my Gran and Grandad that he doesn't want to mess with it" she improvised. She sat back down awkwardly. Almost her whole summer had been spent in the wizarding world. The second house was from her wizarding side, it was where her Mum could use magic. She couldn't tell the class that she spent the summer learning to fly on a broom or studying the history of the wizarding world.

Recess came, and Lorelei headed over to the school library. She tucked herself in the corner with a book and began to read. When the bell rang, she got up, startling the librarian who was reshelving books

"I didn't even see you come in!" she exclaimed as Lorelei headed to class

A few months later she was at her grandparents' house. Lorelei entered her grandfather's study to ask him a question. She stood at his desk for nearly fifteen minutes before he glanced up.

"Oh! Lorelei! I didn't see you enter! What do you need?"

The years passed, and Lorelei started to take advantage of this odd ability. When she was younger, she often snuck downstairs to get a biscuit or other small treats. When she a bit older, she snuck out to go to the local library or to practice flying during the school year. She could easily tuck herself into a corner, even a decently-lit one, and go unnoticed for hours. She can slip into a room and no one notice until she draws attention to herself. Normally she just uses this to hide at social events. If she's bored, she'll slip off and find a quiet spot to read. Since she isn't too close to most people at her muggle school she wasn't often pressured to sneak out at night but could have if she wished. While she seemed to naturally disappear and slip out of notice, she had to work at quieting her footsteps in order to move unnoticed on floors without carpet. She often practised on her friend Darci, seeing if she could catch Lorelei trying to sneak past in the school halls.
