Parents always wanted their children to be safe, when they went to school, when they hung out with friends or when they were simply buying something at the supermarket. And of course, May's parents were not an exeption. Having been born in a Muggle family, May didn't have any kind of magical protection. That's why she had signed up for Martial Arts lessons.
May's parents thought that if she went to a academy where she would learn to defend herself by learning Kung-fu or Karate they wouldn't need to be too over-protective of her. And they were quite right. She learned the Martial Arts fast and swiftly and when she was nine years old, she had already mastered a lot of defensive moves to defend herself and had changed over to red belt (Taekwondo).

May's parents were so impressed by her quick learning that they asked her uncle to teach her to throw knives and she had quickly mastered that too, thought not as fast as the martial arts.

She kept going to the same schools and academy's until she was ten years old and had to change schools. There, she had begun to need her martial abilities.

Being bullied because of being 'the small girl' or 'the cry-baby' made her loose a lot of friends to rely in and she would now need to defend herself on her own, since the professors had only said: "Don't pay them any attention dear."
Typical, May thought, now, I'll need to defend myself on my own.

The bullying was stronger and stronger every day, and with her mother having gone to the USA to work for some months and her father too busy to even glance at her, May began to use physical so that people would get out of the way. Once, a ugly 'big boy' came at her and grabbed her by the ear. She was reading peacefully and did not want to see him now. Well, May kicked him in the stomach and he fell backwards, barely breathing. When May told the professors what had happened, they didn't listen at all. They just glared at her, and gave detention to both of them.

A year passed away slowly, and people were getting scared of her, since she knew how to defend herself. She began to consider the Asian culture more closely to see what other things she could learn. Seeing the deep interest in Chinese culture and Martial arts their daughter had, her parents gave her a small studio where she would be able to practice martial arts, knife throwing and drink her green tea. She turned to be a great and fast learner and didn't need professors or schools anymore, since technology had arisen and she could look at videos where she could learn plenty. She also smiled at the face of new things and learned more and more every day.

May had been accepted into Hogwarts and she 'didn't need' martial arts anymore. She had almost given up hope of seeing other witches and wizards practicing the martial arts, until she found out about the club a prefect had founded, and quickly signed up. May always keeps that martial arts in her heart, since they can be useful, sometimes.

Starlee grew up in a family full of healers. Her father had excelled at Ilvermorny in Potions and Herbology, later becoming a healer, just as his father had done, and his father's father, and so on for generations. Not only was healing in her father's line, but on her maternal side as well. Her muggle mother was a pharmacist, which is someone who helps dispense muggle medicine in safe amounts. This, in fact, was how her parents had met, at an American college , studying the muggle subjects of Biology, Chemistry, and Anatomy. Her father thought it would be prudent to understand the body, at least the muggle aspects of it, in order to further develop the healing arts in the magical field. Little did he know he would run into the love of his life, abandoning his pure blood family.

Growing up, she often volunteered to go with her father on his healing excursions. Well, at least the ones that were not too gruesome, even though she still begged him to allow her to go on those. It seemed the healing 'bug' had certainly been passed onto her. While she couldn't use magic yet, she would watch every one of her father's movements and words in order to absorb as much information as she could about healing on these adventures. He would ask her to grab certain potions for him from his infinitely stocked briefcase, and would, time permitting for the patient of course, explain what he was doing and why. She would intently listen, hoping to suck up as much as she could.

One of her favorite trips was during the Christmas holiday, when a family got into some sort of argument, and somehow a woman had managed to get an apple jammed into her nose. Her father asked Starlee to look for a pain potion, while he worked on casting a shrinking charm to remove the apple. This was a careful process, as the body you have to treat magical injuries such as this quickly, lest there be too much blood loss. She watched as he then quickly mended back the woman’s broken nose with ‘Brakium Emendo.’ Finally, he sutured the nose back together, due to the skin breaking with just how large the apple was, with some crazy spell that controlled the needle as he sewed it up. While it may seem gross to others, she knew that her true calling was to help people.

At night, she would flip through her dad's old herbology and potions books in hopes to learn as much as she could. As she got older, she asked her father if she could help work in his greenhouse. She knew there were dangerous plants in there, but she wanted to expose herself early to whatever she could. Her passion for knowledge knew no bounds. He finally agreed when one Christmas, she opened up a gift of some small dragonhide gloves and a couple of starter seeds for her to take care of and grow. While they may have all been simple spice seeds, such as basil, mint and oregano, they were the perfect plants to start learning the basics of plant care.

Now that she is at Hogwarts, she is finally ready to delve into the healing subjects with utmost care and intensity. She will show her grandfather that even though she’s a half-blood, she can still be just as good at healing, if not better, than his pure-blood self.

The sun was high in the sky. White clouds drifted along the wind, buzzing flies flew in and out of the classroom. A whole body of students filled the entrails of the classroom, it was a big room, like many others in the huge castle. In this classroom one could find a young, redheaded Hufflepuff practicing like many of his peers with his gift that was dubbed ‘magic’. The smaller boy was huffing and puffing as he tried to levitate a pile of books that were piled in front of him without using words. What most students didn’t know about this particular student was that he in fact possessed a load of untapped, raw, natural talent and skill that one might notice at first glance. However, for this Hufflepuff more difficult spells were much like pieces of cake. He devoured them without breaking a single sweat. Gargott was the name of this particular student, like his name might make one think, he was quite unique. As Gargott’s heritage was of Goblin origin. A rare union, although the Part-Goblin had never really felt any shame for it nor had he particularly tried to hide it, in Hogwarts he was always unsure about himself. At first glance one might say he’s short for his age and that he has a nose that is very protruding, yet if you didn’t see the signs one wouldn’t know. But alas, some students loved to remind him that he was somehow “lesser” than those of non-Goblin heritage. At first he had tried to rub their faces in the fact that despite his heritage he was a far better wizard than most of them combined, but that had only resulted in bruises, ripped clothing and even dark, lonely hours where he had been locked up.

Even today, although the weather had seemed to indicate that it would be a nice day, for Gargott it wasn’t. Before class had started some of his peers had felt the need to put him down once again. “You’re as much of a good wizard as any of them, Gargott.” He thought to himself as he reflected. “One day you’ll be able to show them what greatness is! You’ll be famed all over Britain. Have patience!” Those thoughts got him mostly through the days. Once again he focused on the task at hand. Levitating the pile of books was somehow proving to be somewhat of a challenge. Even for him. Although people belittle him for being of Goblin heritage, it had quite some boons for learning new spells. Recalling what the Professor of Charms had taught him in his First Year. Remember to focus, be precise with the wand movements and pronouncing of the incantation. “Well that last part I can scratch completely.” He thought to himself. So his short, stubby fingers enclosed around his Maywooden wand. Eyes locked on the pile of books in front of him, the wand moved in a swish and flick. Yet nothing seemed to happen. Gargott started to grit his teeth! How come he had failed?! What had gone wrong. Scratching his head he analysed what just happened. As suddenly it hit him! Gargott once again focused. Made a swish and flick wand movement and followed up by thinking of the incantation: “wing-GAR-dee-um leh-vee-OH-sa!” The pile of books levitated in front of him! A big grin showed on his face as he looked towards the struggling bullies. That would teach them.

Attending Hogwarts had been quite an adventure for the young Gargott. The whole experience could be summed up as a fight for a place where he belonged. His heritage, that of a Goblin, didn’t do him many favors in a place dominated by wizard children. What the young Hufflepuff yearned for was the feeling to belong somewhere and no longer feel like a misfit. Having trouble connecting with his dorm mates or really any other kid of his age, the chubby child had decided to channel his energy somewhere else. Books. Spending many time researching and reading on extra-curricular stuff his grades seemed to increase and with it his prowess in casting spells as well. It had seemed like his spells were more extravagant then any of his peers. Some could be explained by his heritage, that understanding magic and casting it came more easily for him. But a lot was to be blamed on his studying as well. It wasn’t like Gargott was a kid who wanted to steal the show or show off in any kind. No, he was nowhere near flamboyant. Yet his magic took different proportions.

As he casted magic it would seem it would be far more grander. He very much remembered his first time when he unsupervised practiced the accio charm he learned in his third year. In his dorm reading up about it. When he finally was pleased with himself and felt confident enough to try it out, or at least to some degree, comprehended the theory he wanted to test it out. The spell he had casted went perfectly, albeit a little overachieving.. When he had tried to focus a shoe that was placed in the middle of the room he had not only pulled this towards him… Cupboards had flown open and the stuff that was stored inside littered the floor. Beds had been reorganised and the sheets were all over the place. It was safe to say that his dorm mates weren’t too happy about the chaos he had created. Later on Gargott used the next few days, even weeks, to dedicate himself to master his magic. As stubborn as he was he would try to minimise the range of the effects of his magic. It was his sole purpose and mission. Never before had he so struggled. Luckily for him his stubbornness bore fruit and Gargott had learned to determine the range of his spells. Through this endeavour he saw the silver lining in it all and came to terms with a single fact. A big man required big magic.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):
As critical as the year 1815 was in the Muggle world with events such as the Battle of Waterloo and the peace treaty (Treaty of Paris) between the United States and the United Kingdom, it was also a challenging year for the Morrel/Griffiths family. The familial affair was not as prosperous as they expected and a series of doomful events rotted their notoriety in the wizarding community.

As tradition dictated, a Morrel lad was always supposed to marry a Griffiths lass. The origin of this came from a few centuries back when the Morrel patriarch made a certain agreement with the Griffiths household. To these days, it is unclear why this bargain ever existed, their history most likely lost or forgotten over the large span of time. Nevertheless, the Griffiths family was one of many rumors and feared by plenty. They were said to be cursed and to bring bad omens to those interacting with them. Originating from Central Europe, most of its representatives attended Beauxbâtons and specialized themselves in Divination or Astrology. It was even said that some members were gifted seers. Information that would, later on, be proven correct.

The family acquired the worst of their reputation in the summer of 1815. Aida Loretta Griffiths, a direct ancestor of Timothy on his father's family branch and sole known seer of her generation, lived in Elsdon, Northumberland in the United Kingdom with her husband and children. The Muggle-town already had its loads of tragedy as many lads went missing and there were reports of murders cases in early 1790. In this context, the citizens of the town were distrustful of strangers and paranormal events. The Griffiths' seer and her husband possessed a small business near St Cuthbert's Church. They tended to old manuscripts and tomes to sell them in their athenaeum. However, on a rather ominous night of July, Aida fell victim to a tragic vision of what was to ensue. In a gullible attempt to prevent her vision to come true, she decided to inform their neighbors of the imminent tragedy. It did not go as expected. In the next week, the villagers started to spread rumors about her delusive behaviors and many began to label her as a freak. A month later, the incident occurred has she predicted. The young lad she identified in her vision disappeared into thin air and was discovered again without life along the lakeshore. Terror-Stricken, the residents of Elsdon accused her of witchcraft and exposed her to the priest of St Cuthbert. A week later, Aida was found guilty of her crimes and got castigate for them. The husband of Aida Griffiths, Olivier Morrel managed to obliviate this incident from the muggles' memories with the help of the British Ministry of Magic, but not without consequences which included the loss of his wife's life.

This episode shattered the family, as they mourned a loved member of their household, and as they lost their credibility among the wizarding community for almost disclosing their most guarded secret to muggles. In this day and age, the tragedy is still well-remembered and always mentioned to the new generation as a reminder that seers brought misfortunes to the family. In light of these facts, Imogen Eva Griffiths, Timothy's grandmother, and last living scion of the Griffiths household spend hours revealing him their shameful history, influencing him on his view of seers while calling them ''Evil Eye'' and almost blaspheming those harboring this gift. The Morrel heir who had a close bond with his grandmother never truly questioned her beliefs on the matter.

[...]

Throughout most of his childhood, Timothy Herbert Morrel, the first son of Julian Eldric Morrel, believed to be the victim of night terrors. He would frequently wake up in the night, covered in sweat and breathing erratically from the exhaustion caused by theses visions. Flashes of sceneries, colors, and random animals seized his mind when they occurred. Theses episodes became more often the older he grew, developing into a problematic condition depriving him of sleep. With time, Timothy noticed locations he would visit a few days or weeks after the incident but decided to ignore this piece of information as he could have easily gone there beforehand thus making theses peculiar visions purposeless. However, after a few reoccurrences, he convinced himself to have an exchange with Imogen about the matter. She dismissed him, concluding he was simply having nightmares which could be frequent in childhood. After that, Timothy normalized theses events and repressed them as much as he could. He also decided to refrain from speaking about it to the rest of his family in order to avoid any embarrassment. Occasionally, Timothy will appear at certain locations exactly at the right time to prevent or to assist something or someone as if it was foreseen, but again, since it does not arrive often, he simply discards circumstance. As of now, Timothy still has no idea about his ''condition'' since most symptoms appear at an older age.

The Watts family has always been an odd bunch. Their neighbors often wondered what Mister Watts did for a living, none of them ever really saw him at any of the local businesses. Misses Watts claimed he worked from home, but they often never saw him there when they visited. Misses Watts was a different story. Everyone knew her. She was the secretary of the First Minister of Scotland- a fairly prestigious job for most. Misses Watts, to her neighbors, is the most normal woman one would ever see. She’s kind and gentle with a stern motherly voice. Her husband is a completely different story. But yes, many would not assume that Misses Watts would be involved in something as childish as believing in magic. However, the fact is, she’s married to a Wizard. That odd man who comes and goes and behaves ridiculously, he’s a wizard. And their daughter, who’s so cheerful and lively, well she’s a witch. Of course, none of their neighbors know this. They just know that the Watts family must be very well off despite their modest home to be sending their daughter off to a boarding school.

Misses Watts has always been the normal one in her household. The only muggle in a house of magic. Even her daughter, albeit young and unable to cast her own magic yet, was always excited to hear about her father’s work with the Ministry of Magic or watch him perform spells. Misses Watts never quite understood the charm of it. Sure, it was fantastical, but she preferred things she could hold and mold with her own two hands. Still, she does love Mister Watts. She even enjoys some charmed tools to make housework easier. However, to her, magic has always been something for her good natured but silly husband to play with.

Who would have thought that her very own great great grandfather was once a seer. Most certainly not her. The maiden name of Gall had never held much meaning to Misses Watts. It was just a last name after all. Unknown to her, the Gall family had a legacy within the Wizarding World. Her great grandfather was once a prominent Naming Seer who named great figures in their time. Unfortunately, this great talent to read the potential and future of others often led him to be able to see the dirtier bits and pieces of those who attempted to get closer to him. Without context of their true natures, these dark little glimpses often led him to harshly judge people. So, he would go without a spouse for decades. It wasn’t until he met a squib woman with a gentle and kind nature.

Her status as a squib made his relationship with her controversial as her family had been attempting to force her to live in the muggle world. The daughter of a prominent Wizarding family, they were attempting to hide their ‘shame.’ As a result, the Seer Gall would leave with her, moving to Edinburgh, Scotland. Him and his wife lived off the wealth he made as a Naming Seer and would have a son who was also a squib. His son would marry a muggle woman and so the Gall family name became separated from magic.

It was only coincidence that Edna’s mother met a wizard oh so many generations later. Perhaps it was a subconscious draw to her ancestry? Regardless, the two wed and began their own little life. As Misses Watts has no knowledge of her magical heritage, she had no idea just how much her genetics would affect her daughter. After all, she’s just a muggle and her daughter is a witch. So, clearly, her father’s genes have been more influential on the girl, right?

Edna has shown no signs of being a seer so far with the exception of being strangely good at guessing games.

Ability Proposition- Calming Presence

Application-
Reducio
Though Piérre never realized it himself, there was always a reason people seemed to be relaxed around him. Perhaps it was his intentional (and, on occasion, unintentional,) humor, his never ending font of comebacks, or even his carefreeness and ability to laugh at both himself and his misfortunes that caused others to laugh or at the least, smile.

It would be wrong to say that he wasn’t like this even in his first year, but what was not usually understood about his character or his life was that often when he tried to be outgoing or positive, and though he never showed any sign of it bothering him, many people did not appreciate his bubbly and slice of life nature. This is likely in part because of the negative air that surrounds all of mankind, the inability to trust and possess a childlike mind, and to those who even possess a childlike mind, not all are willing to let that part of them show through the façade they feel that they must put up to be the cool kid, or the smart kid, or even the popular kid.

But as far as the childhood of the half-blood. This is a curiosity. Since his magic was never truly revealed to be powerful or toxic enough to cause others to be frightened or avoid him, the boy attended normal Muggle schools as the Muggle half of his bloodline. Children there who had been around him saw at once that there was something off with the boy with the piqued ears. Small, unpredictable changes in the atmosphere, as if it were charged with electricity, a sense of giddiness and cheer that seemed to follow him about... Small things that weren’t easily noticed but were testament to both his magical heritage and the sense of calm that he exuded.

That aura and oddness, combined with the fact that Piérre seemed a little too happy-go-lucky for his own good made him perfect bait for bullies. Those first four or five years of school, Preschool, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd has been especially difficult, and had it not been for Piérre’s twin, Romeo, the poor child may have been either scarred for life or killed of personality and cheer. As it was though, it was that aura which propelled Piérre, allowing him to make critical decisions when he had to, and even with testament from Romeo saying that in some cases it was because of that tingling aura which enabled him to make those hits land on the bullies when he absolutely had to.

When he was pulled from school after the death of his former adoptive parents, Piérre’s aura greatly faded, filled with doubt, fear, and general sadness. This carried through into his first year of school, where he was just starting to realize that he didn’t have to bemoan the past, and he understood that others understood and felt his pain. This only encouraged him to remain strong, vowing to himself that he would make sure that nobody had to feel what he did when he was a young boy.

Now that’s his second year has rolled around and he feels more comfortable in his own skin, Piérre allows his aura of carefreeness and general safety to exude from him at all times, ensuring that nobody feels that they are totally alone in this terrifying and intriguing world.

Evasive Maneuvers:
Reducio
When one has a big head and an even bigger mouth, they get used to being in awkward and sticky situations. Throw in a sneaky older brother and a few narrow-minded neighbours and you get a blond little girl who knows three ‘secret’ routes to get to school (and not just because she likes to adventure). Plus, not only do these secret routes have multiple, camouflaged hiding spots, they also provide several spying locations so that one can observe the normal (boring) children who choose to walk on the pavement.

What is one of the main rules of evading, one may ask? Know your evadees.

Well. Margo White was certainly good at knowing. She knew things about the tall, ‘popular’ girl in her class that most of her classmates would trade their best pencils to hear. And she didn’t even have to be friendly or control her expressions to access the information! Her only boundary was silence. Okay, so silent laughing wasn’t easy, per se, but nobody liked to accuse bushes of choking, especially not popular girls who just spilled their most embarrassing secrets.

So Margo knew how to avoid girls preparing to bloom into judgy teenagers, but... there was another, much sweeter factor in this changeable and very mischievous equation. Another boring tale of the woes of Primary School? No, not at all. This was an adorable black puppy by the name of Mimi.

Now, if you ignore the fact that they like to chew everything in sight, puppies are surprisingly good influences. For one, they teach agility — both in following them through thick vegetation (and therefore avoiding any and all threatening branches that could poke out eyes), and in evading spontaneous attacks of licking. Secondly, hide and seek with a puppy is ten times as hard as hide and seek with a human. Plus it teaches one to stealthily change hiding places when the puppy is distracted by an interesting scent (it’s not cheating if they don’t know the rules in the first place, right?). One can also learn to hide with such adorable bundles of fluff from irritable older brothers who think it’s reasonable that they should get play with the family pet. Honestly, where would anybody get such a crazy notion?

And finally, there was the wrestling.

Margo the professional wrestler, one may ask. Really? Believe it or not, no, Margo was not, and will never be, a trained fighter. But she was a sneaky one. Sometimes Toby, her older brother, didn’t agree with her amazing and intelligent beliefs like the one presented in the last paragraph. And this could result in violence. Toby wasn’t a completely terrible person, but he was strong and tall, and it was these factors that truly shaped Margo’s reflexes. She learned to dodge his attempts to grab her, and, believe it or not, use her shortness for something good. She could duck, dodge and sprint in zig zags by the age of ten. Her brother did not like it, and because of that, she vowed she would keep those talents for the rest of her life.

Charmer:
Reducio
A year at Hogwarts had taught Margo many things. Much more than mere academics. For example, she was well aware that she would never be the smartest pea in the pod. But... why should that mean that she couldn’t be the funniest, or the most charismatic?

Sure, sarcasm was still a very dear companion to Margo White. However, somewhere along the line that was her first year, she realised that insulting people did not, actually, get her all that she desired. Fancy that. She also discovered that she had a talent almost as creative as her passion for embroidery. She had a knack for making laughter.

Well, no... not exactly. She wasn’t a magician. Ehem. Okay, so yes, maybe she could do a little magic, but she could not, as of yet, pull laughter out of thin air. No. She could do something better. She knew how to make people like her. Make people listen. Make people smile. And, strangely enough, she enjoyed it.

Margo supposed she could be called ‘charming’ when she wanted to be. Noticeable... distracting, even. She somehow knew how to make a positive impression. She’d always wanted people to acknowledge her as different, but it was only now that she realised that they did.

So Margo decided to test her newfound revelation over the summer. On her first day back in the house, she made a nice cake and a witty (but not sarcastic) note to her neighbours. After leaving the items on their doorstep the next day, the homely couple moved their stinky compost bins across the garden to the fence that didn’t border Margo’s house. She had made progress! And she no longer had to wash stinky compost smells off the beloved family dog.

Besides, it wasn’t like her wit had evaporated into thin air. Nope. Not at all. Humour was still the focus of her speech, and she still strived to differ from the crowd. Her closest friend could also attest to the fact that sarcasm still held a prominent place in her mind. Her banter lived on. Margo even allowed herself to hope that she might make more friends.

... Not that she needed companionship. She could live quite happily by herself, thank you very much! People just interested her, made her laugh, made her happy. She wasn’t reliant. She liked seeing and speaking with people, seeing how they reacted to her. And usually, they looked forward to speaking with her too.

Hogwarts was slowly starting to feel like home.

Spell spread:
Reducio
Anyone who knew Margo knew one thing. She did what she wanted, when she wanted, and with maximum gusto. This meant she often sat up in bed and started sewing in the wee hours of the morning... and it also meant she cast spells with a lot of vigour. With Margo, things either went very wrong or very right.

And besides, who was she to argue against fate? If a spell was going to go wrong, it was going to. She just had to cast it with as much enthusiasm as possible. The only issue with that was that bold gestures sometimes had the capability to warp wand movements.

Oh well. Everything came with drawbacks, and if there was one thing Margo was determined to do, it was to be herself. No matter the price.

She was dramatic by nature. Her highs touched the sky, and when she was happy she felt as if she could soar. But when something went wrong, well, she was sure to milk it for all it was worth.

She also liked to live in the moment. Big task ahead? Not a problem. But... would it be okay if she went on a small adventure first? When Margo put her mind to short, sharp tasks, she excelled. Tasks such as... spellmaking, for example. Her focus, though many would disagree, was as fierce as a tiger. It just didn’t always stick.

Another thing about Margo was that she was good at taking risks... unintentionally. She made on-the-spot decisions all the time and, unfortunately, this also meant that sometimes she didn’t think about the consequences. She’d sustained a variety of bumps and bruises due to her spontaneity in the past — one might think she’d learn her lesson. But, in all honesty, Margo wholeheartedly agreed that a few scratches were worth a thrill. A spell backfiring would never cross her mind when she waved her wand, imagining herself as the hero or, if she so desired, the villain in a thrilling tale.

So, as anyone could see, the words ‘go big or go home’ we’re practically Margo’s motto. Not that she didn’t like her home, oh no. She just imagined herself doing more than her life than settling down with a stable job. She wanted to travel the world and follow a career with risks and fun. She wanted interesting conversation and uncontrollable laughter. And she was willing to work hard for it.

Failure was not an option. After the disaster in the Forbidden Forest, with his near constant botching of spells and decision making, Thomas’ shame and anger only served as a lesson bitterly learned. The Ravenclaw boy would not be making those mistakes again. He’d scarcely make another mistake at all, should his work ethic over the summer have anything to say about it. Even at the Hogwarts Summer Camp, when Thomas wasn’t dueling or partaking in the other activities, he was reading up on spellcasting. Of course the boy couldn’t actually practice, not without getting in trouble, but he could sound out incantations independent of his wand to incorporate them into his vocabulary, to make them second nature. Tommy was already a brilliant boy, a promising student and an aspiring duelist, but the rage he felt due to the humiliation and panic he experienced in the woods was enough to set his already prolific workaholic tendencies to an eleven.

It wasn’t just his spellcasting that he worked on; the young Ravenclaw also made an earnest effort to work on his strategy and problem solving skills. Thomas acquired as much reading as he could on the subject of dueling, mulling over the book from Diagon Alley ceaselessly over the summer. He was bound and determined to improve and change for the better. His mother and childhood friends scarcely saw him, the boy far too focused on reading in his room to be social. Tommy’s fixation on improvement was bordering on obsessive, but he refused to lose again. He refused to fail. It wasn’t just for himself, although Thomas would tell anyone who asked that he was working for his own glory, but for others. He proved to be a liability to his peers in a very literal sense. It was unlikely that Breana’s injuries would ever leave his conscience, at least not for a long while.

Laborious by trade, the young wizard came back to Hogwarts with a new drive for success and prepared to chase that dream. With all summer spent reading up on spells, practicing as much as he could without breaking the underage magic law, and developing strategy beyond casting the same spell repeatedly until his opponent was defeated, Thomas was armed and dangerous. His new discipline on the subject of spellcasting would be a defining factor in how he conducted himself in duels and attacks in the future. More measured and methodical, Tommy would certainly be more cautious and less lackadaisical with his approach.

August of 2018
Summer before Lucie's 2nd Year

"Ugh."

Tina rolled onto her front, choosing to ignore her older sister's grumbling for now. This particular Summer evening was a warm and humid one, with a light drizzle only just beginning to break through the clouds outside, the sun shining brightly through nine-year-old Tina's bedroom window. In her typical, annoying, older sibling fashion, Lucie had invaded young Tina's room, and was now taking up half her bed. Tina didn't particularly mind (mainly because Lucie let her look through some of her school books in return), but if all this girl was going to do was complain, she didn't want her around.

"UUUGGHHH."

This time, the groan was significantly louder and more drawn out. Tina winced, desperately trying to bury her head further into this spell-book she'd been bribed with. Without looking up, she offered a begrudging response.

"What is it?"

"It's nothing," Lucie replied immediately, flopping down on the mattress so hard that Tina lifted off it for a moment. She sighed. By this point, the girl knew full well that, if she didn't push her sister for a reason, she'd be yelled at. She snapped the book closed with a poorly disguised huffing sound.

"Come on, Luce. I can see you're upset."

"Okay, okay!" Tina screwed her face up. Lucie always acted like this when she wanted to moan about something; as though Tina badgered her into it or something. "I just wish I could do magic outside of school. It just makes everything so much easier."

Not really sure what to make of this, Tina rested her head in her hands, looking at her sister with one eyebrow quirked. She was only slightly curious now, but even she knew Lucie couldn't show her anything. Not without getting into trouble, at least.

"For example?" she prompted.

"For example..." Lucie started, lifting herself up to a sitting position using her arms. She paused. "For example, I could unlock your door and sneak in to look through your things any time I wanted. And Soph and Issy's."

Tina frowned. This was just Lucie teasing her now. Her sister was privileged enough to have her own bedroom in the attic, a product of being the eldest in the family, whilst Tina was forced to share with her two younger sisters. For now, she had a couple of options. Take the bait, or...

"You don't need magic for that," Tina replied coolly. As she said so, she made sure to keep her tone matter-of-fact and unreadable, smoothing out her bed sheets underneath her and reopening the spell-book. Lucie stilled. After a moment leaned towards Tina, studying her face closely.

"Go on then. Go outside and I'll lock it," Lucie said, pushing herself off the bed and smirking. Tina hummed at the challenge, rolling off the bed and wobbling to her feet, knowing she didn't have a choice. Honestly, she was just glad for the opportunity to show off. "I'll give you..." Lucie paused, tapping her chin thoughtfully. "Sixty seconds."

"Deal," Tina replied. Without a second to spare, she was ushered outside the room by Lucie. The door clicked shut behind her.

Sixty seconds wasn't a very long time, and a skill like lock-picking was one that took care, patience and precision. With quick hands, she plucked a couple bobby pins out her hair. A few strands that were being kept in place by them tumbled down, coming to rest by her cheeks. Taking the first pin, Tina clamped her teeth around it at about the halfway point, and twisted it at a neat ninety degree angle. Moving onto the second, she pulled it apart into one long wire, bending a short section on the end into a point.

"Ready?" Lucie asked. Tina wasn't certain, but she thought she sensed just a hint of excitement in her sister's voice.

"Ready."

"Okay, go!"

Wasting no time, Tina wedged the first bobby pin into the lock, pulling it in one direction and having it act like a wrench. Holding that in place, she took the second one and inserted it in, raking it along the inside a couple of times.

"Don't break it!" she heard Lucie call out on the other side of the door. In all honesty, Tina hadn't thought about that, but she didn't think she would be able break it. Right?

The next step was to push the 'pins' inside the lock into an 'unlocked' position. Applying firm pressure on the more resistant pins, and all the while holding the makeshift 'wrench' firm in place, Tina leaned in to listen for the expected clicks. The pin furthest back in the barrel of the lock went first, making a satisfying noise as it shifted into place. The first bobby pin rotated further. She was racing the clock. How many seconds left?

The other pins went quick after that, her handmade lock-pick pushing them upwards just as a key might, bringing her closer and closer to victory until...

Click!

The wrench did a full turn, and the door swung open, revealing an awe-struck Lucie stood behind it. Tina looked up at her sister, beaming triumphantly.

"Where the hell d'you learn that?"

The petite ebony haired girl never really cared or paid much attention to her looks nor the looks of others. Unbeknownst to her at first, people had paid some attention to hers, becoming almost distracted when looking at her. It all started with small endearing compliments, but they were ones that almost every little child would get from adults that find them cute and etc, but then increasingly became more prominent as she grew up when classmates would lose their train of thought if looking directly into her nearly black eyes or her opponents in martial arts would hesitate because she had somehow, accidentally distracted them.
But she was brought up to be humble, so when ever she did get some sort of a compliment she accepted it graciously but still hadn’t ever thought anything of it since she assumed the person must just be trying to be polite. Possibly what drew people to her was the way she held herself, with poise but not in a posh way, with elegance but wasn’t full of herself; Or perhaps it was her soft looking facial features... her small button-like nose, her rose coloured cheeks, and her pale skin combined made for quite a charming looking girl.
She was born into a family who all seemed to have an affect on people but in their own unique way. Her older brother Kai Kato, is a very stoic and handsome young man who has shown to have similar effects to Akari when gazed upon. Contrary to Akari’s dark hair his hair is a light brown shade and has hazel-ish coloured eyes to match. People often took a liking to him because to go with his looks he has a kind personality and is a well rounded individual. Her mother Esmae Reid Kato, who although is a muggle, does not in the slightest look as if she’s raised two kids, created a whole family and worked in a full time job. It’s almost shocking at how well she’s aged over the years. Rio Kato, her father, has a very eerie but at the same time gentle personality is something that draws people to him, and makes him a very interesting person. Her parents had told her they suspected she had some kind of ability after witnessing many incidents where people looked at her with an expression that made them seem like they were daydreaming. Despite the fact that Akari found it strange that she has this type of an affect on people, it’s actually not that odd that she has developed something such as this after having a family like hers.
