Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Prodigal Transfiguration Learner
Describe why this fits your character:
For as long as he's be able to walk, Dustin has been running and climbing and throwing.  He's not however one to ask why. He doesn't ask or think, he just does. Dustin doesn't have much of a mind for theory. His potential for complex, multi-part advanced spells is quite low. He isn't particularly powerful with charms and never has been. He doesn't have the attention to detail and numbers that potions requires. What he always has been is a physical being. You wouldn't know it to look at him, but Dustin has always excelled in kinetic intelligence. He is physically tough and has almost a sixth sense about his body, its position, and where he is in relation to everything else around him.

Transfiguration is a school of magic Dustin would take to like a fish to water. The entire premise of the magic is changing one physical state to another.  Dustin is attentive to detail when it comes to appearance and seems to have an innate understanding of the composition of the world around him.

In addition to this potential, Dustin severely wants to learn. Telling Dustin that he will have the ability to harden his body with a spell, or change his appearance with a wave of a wand would have him bouncing off the walls. From the moment his mother told him what an animagus was (being one herself) Dustin knew that he would be doing whatever it took to become one.

Transfigurations runs in Dustin's blood. His aforementioned mother and her mother before her are both animagi, taking the forms of large cats. His mother, seeing being an animagus as a way to get a leg up on the competition and a way to follow in her own mother's footsteps,  always expected Dustin would follow in her footsteps. As a result he's seen her shift back and forth many times growing up, and it always impressed and intrigued him. Dustin's mother is a Slytherin and has always insisted on giving Dustin as many leg-ups as possible, so you can be sure she shared every detail he could understand about changing into her animagus form.

Dustin ultimately will be very disinterested in magic theory. He will not care for arithmancy, or history of magic. When it comes to changing himself and the world around him however he will never lose interest. Transfigurations offers Dustin the chance to improve himself. It offers him the chance to become physically stronger and  one day will allow him to explore a whole new existence as an animagus.

Name of Ability or Race that you Are Applying for: Part Veela
Describe why this fits your character:

Beautiful and graceful.

That is how most would describe a Veela. Though it is not the first words that pop into your mind when you see her, it wouldn't be crazy to use these words to describe Lorelei Dixon. Most would even say it fit her. It described her well. And, it did. Why, did it, exactly? It did because Lorelei was part Veela.

The Bridger family didn't really have a long line of Veelas. Instead, they were a long line of powerful pureblood. However, Lorelei's grandmother, Celine was a Veela. She came from a long line of Veelas, coming from Bulgaria. Like most Veelas, she was charming and beautiful. Long, white blonde hair that fell to her waist, bright blue eyes, and pale moon white skin. She had a petite, slim figure, her face enchantingly beautiful. Most say she looked almost like an angel. Others said she looked exactly like an angel. This caused her to lure in Lorelei's grandfather, Stanley Bridger. They met when when her grandfather journeyed to Bulgaria. Charmed by her beautiful looks, Stanley was quick to win her over. Soon, they were married, and even quicker, they had two children. When her mother and aunt were born, you could tell they inherited their mother's beauty. Like their mother, they had enchanting silver hair, a petite figure, ice-blue eyes for the younger child, Allison, and sky blue for the older child, Annabelle. It was these charming traits once again, that helped her mother win over her father, an American muggle office worker named Thomas Dixon. Even when Lorelei was born, the line didn't end.

Even though she seemed more human than her grandmother and mother, she was beautiful for human standards. Like the ones before her, Lorelei had the ability to charm people. Her hair was a curly, silver blonde that fell to there tip of her shoulders. Her eyes were a beautiful ice blue, just like her mothers. Her skin was pale, a moonlight-like color. This was surprising, for the gene had skipped her mother and aunt. But none really payed attention to the detail. She had a slim and petite figure, even as a baby. And when her mother and father's friends said she looked like an angel, most meant it literally.

As a child, Lorelei was told many times of her beauty. Many would compliment her, saying she was beautiful. A lot called her an angel, especially her aunt, saying she looked just like her grandmother. Even at school, she heard many rumors saying that a person had a "crush" on her. This caused Lorelei to start to despise her beauty. She often ignored compliments and tried to hide her beauty as much as she could. She rejected her Veela roots, even how much her aunt tried to show her. She often denies being a quarter Veela, and tried to switch the conversation as quick as she could when it came up. However, once she got into Hogwarts, she decided her power could be used to her advantage. She started embracing her power to charm, and is learning to control it.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Fearless
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): [500 words for a race, 400 words for an ability, please include word count. This would include things such as how this entered your family line or how you were exposed to it in cases of Lycanotrophy. This would also include mentioning or updating your appearance, mannerisms or build to reflect this ability or change. This can be completed in-character first or second person or from a third person perspective. ]
Anastasia Beckett would not have called herself fearless before she got to Hogwarts. She considered herself prim and proper and well brought up. Then, she was sorted into Gryffindor. The girl being a member of the red and gold house somehow gave her permission to unleash a side of her that she didn't even know existed before that. It began with small things such as her being a little more defiant and loud to her parents and standing up more for the things that she believed in. It progressed to bigger things, as shown by her dueling a fifth year in her first week in school.

This continued with her constantly going out of her way to antagonize one second year, Aurelia Notrésvace, despite the fact that the older girl knew more advanced magic, and could likely crush her in a physical conflict. That didn't stop Anastasia. She managed to steal what she believed to be the girl's diary from her dorm, and proceeded to set the diary on fire. Aurelia went nearly a year believing someone else to be at fault, however, Anastasia simply couldn't help herself and had to make a snarky comment about "hot reads".

Another stunt that Ana has pulled is chasing after a bird, tackling and shoving everyone in sight. Her reasoning for this was the bird had her homework stuck its foot and she needed it back. Yet another similar incident includes her leaping off the owlery and attempting to use her cloak as a flying carpet. In her defense, the door was stuck and she couldn't think of any other way to get herself down. Honorable mentions include nearly setting a hay maze on fire because she was lost, and regularly threatening people she barely knows but that could clearly beat her in a fight with things ranging from simple punches to shoving their wands places they ought not to be.

Anastasia is generally, despite what it may sound like, an incredibly smart person. She has all O's and is constantly reading. However, she completely lacks impulse control and basic self-preservation instincts. As she ages, she continues to put herself in spectacularly dangerous situations for paper-thin reasons. She believes she can do anything and everything she sets her mind to and won't stop until she has proven so, no matter what the risk.

People may disagree on whether she is being brave or foolish; however, there is no denying that she is utterly and completely fearless.

Name of Ability or Race = Parseltongue
Describe why it Fits my Character
It was hard to find anything that wasn't spotless in the Tone family history. They were known for their talents and achievements since ancient Japan. Constantly changing everything they own to be era-appropriate made them one of the few old Japanese wizarding families that weren't still living in traditional Japanese houses or

From doing business to being popular artists, to working close to the ministry. The Tone was indeed a gifted bunch and had proven themselves worthy to be praised as citizens of Japan.

Their incredible intelligence, mesmerizing voices and endless riches had made them one of the most influential wizards in the wizarding community. The only thing that wasn't entirely spotless was their personalities.

Image obsessed to the core, the family had presented a spotless sculptured to perfection. Using their talent of manipulation, control of facial expression and intelligence to fool the public eye about their perfect family.

Some tried to dig it out, most either failed, mysteriously disappeared, or shunned by the public as the Tone family were basically untouchable with their influence.

What's really happening behind the remote-controlled curtains was a family filled with hate, ruthless competition, backstabbing, one-sided hugs, and secrets.

One particular secret was the fact that anyone from the Tone family, was bound to be cursed with the parseltongue ability. It was a huge disgrace to them, as this ability would definitely taint the perfect family image they worked for generations. Many would try to link them to the dark arts and evil scum, and the fact that this lie was built up since ancient Japan was not helping.

Once the ability was found out, the constantly feuding family finally came to one agreement. And that was to keep their parseltongue a secret no matter what. If the Tone family kept their hands clean before, they definitely couldn't with this secret they had to keep now.

Because of how far they are from a tight knitted family, the true history of their parseltongue heritage has been distorted. The elders refused to speak about it and the newer generation couldn't care less about their curse of history, only focusing on how to keep it away from the public.

The first Parseltongue in the family was one back in early modern Japan.

A Tone child, destined for greatness with her outstanding charisma, talent, and IQ, fell deeply ill. The child has been called the savior that will bring the Tone family up to top power. But alas, a sickness has struck out of nowhere, making him bed-ridden and now seen as useless from her own family. Still so obsessed with family image and what others would think of their family, the elders trudged through the streets of Japan, hoping a miracle would come. A medicine, a doctor, or another witch to heal the child. What they found instead, was a street musician. Not only were they enchanted by her mesmerizing singing voice, but they were deeply interested in her face, who, coincidentally looked about the same as the sick child.

A deal was struck and promises were made. The street musician is now dead, only to replace the presence of the sick child. Money and protection were given to the street musicians’ family, who were just scraping by,  but the option of seeing them ever again was non-existent.

The Tone’s worked hard to educate the street musician, it was just their luck that she caught up quickly. Soon, the real sick child had left the earth but his death was only known to a selected few. For everyone else, the child ( now replaced with the former musician ) had no changes other than the lovely voice she now possessed.

Years had passed without any troubles and the former musician had an heir. The elders had suspected there was something wrong with the child. Who held no fear towards large snakes as most children their age, but they had brushed it aside.

Before they knew it, that child had their own offsprings, and so on. All of them with the ability of Parseltongue. Chaos broke inside the Tone family even harsher than before. Some were willing to throw away anyone in the family who possessed such a dark power. Some wanted to create a branch family. But with almost half of the family now possessing Palseltounge, the damage was clearly done. Any further action could result in suspicion from the other family, which might bring down their reputation, which is their biggest fear.

After a few debates and negotiations, the Parseltongues, the descendants of the former musician, were not given any sort of punishment. But they must swear to keep this ability under wraps at all times. They agreed.

The Tone family continued to grow its reputation for being a perfect bunch. Taking action towards anyone who dared to change that, the numbers of parseltongues grew and the promise was forgotten but never broken.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Foulplay
Describe why this fits your character:

Whoever said cheaters never prosper or cheaters never win has never met you.

Percival was never a good student. Percival lacked and understanding of the material and his teachers provided little to no help. It did not help that Percival struggled to put forth the effort of learning the difficult material. The boy would rather sit in class talking to his friends than pay attention to the whiteboard. As Percival grew older, his parents began to stress the importance of perfect grades. Even though the pressure increased, Percival's understanding of the class material did not change. Percival tried his hardest to learn the material, but he still could not comprehend his hardest subject. Which was his math class. Upset at the fact he still could not understand and scared of his family's anger. Percival turned to other methods to get better grades.

Percival learned from his friends that one of the smart students was an extreme push over. That if Percival threatened him enough he could get the other to do his homework. After, Percival forgot his homework at home one day in Year Five. Percival decided that he would make his classmate give him their homework before the teacher would collect it. Percival decided to corner his unsuspecting classmate during their morning free time. The teacher was up in front of the classroom grading papers. So, Percival and his friends cornered their classmate in the back of the classroom.

Percival demanded the other student to give him their homework. When the other student refused, Percival ripped the homework sheet out of their hands and pushed the student hard onto the ground. Even though the other student cried, Percival's teacher had not seen Percival push the other student. So the teacher only thought that the child had fallen down. Percival hid the homework, erasing the other boy's homework, before turning it in to get credit.

Another Instance of Percival getting away with something bad. Was when Percival was much younger. Percival had a playdate with his friend and they were both playing with toys in the main living room. The nanny who was also in the same room at the time was busy cleaning the house. The playdate was going well until Percival's friend wanted to switch toys. Though Percival did not want to switch toys with the other boy. Percival's friend ended up trying to grab the toy from the other. Though Percival held onto his toy and bashed it over the top of his friend's head. Of course, the other boy began to cry, but the nanny just thought that he was tired. So the nanny called the boy's mother, and Percival did not get caught hitting the other boy with his toy.

Many people consider it luck for Percival to not get caught, and will often say he will eventually get caught. Though this 'luck' continues to push him forward to continue his bad habits, because what's life without a foul or two?

"Aly, you could make friends with a brick wall."

Alyssa Salinger heard this her entire life, over and over and over again. Of course, it was always from the same person- her father Benjamin- seeing as she didn't exactly have much contact with anyone else. But it didn't matter how few people she ended up seeing. The truth was that Aly was simply the friendliest person her parents had ever met. She got along with her father, got along with the house-elves Dinny and Becca, and even got along with the occasional Ministry owls that visited the Salinger manor with letters for her parents. There simply was nothing she couldn't befriend.

And maybe it was because there was just something about her, an infectious enthusiasm in everything she ever tried. When her mother Hesper started teaching her to fly on a toy broom before Aly could even take her first steps, her toothless grin and bubbly giggles had the entire family cooing over her like a newborn kitten. It was the same when, the very day after Aly's first instance of wandless magic occurred blooming tulips in the garden, Aly marched into the sitting room with her father's old magic textbooks and slammed them down on the table, loudly declaring that she was "ready to be a witch now!" (Except her front tooth was missing, so it sounded more like with.) Benjamin just chuckled at his daughter's overbearing curiosity and love for learning at such a young age.

The one person who seemed almost catastrophically immune to Aly's extroverted charm has always been her mother, Hesper. Hesper and Aly often clashed though Aly's young childhood- because while Benjamin saw his daughter's enthusiasm as contagious and endearing, Hesper saw it as a weakness to be exploited, pushing Aly to be better and better and better. No amount of delighted grins or congenial amiability would ever charm her. But she was the only one.

When Aly received her Hogwarts letter on May 12th, 2019, just three days after her eleventh birthday, she waited impatiently by the fireplace for her parents to get home. She was bouncing on her feet, practically vibrating almost, for nearly two hours before Benjamin Apparated into the room... and when she screamed with excitement and shoved the letter into her father's face, he was again struck by the bewitching exhilaration on his daughter's face. Her simple grin of pure joy was enough to make him smile, too. In that moment he knew that, no matter how Aly worried about making her first ever true friends at Hogwarts, she would never have any issues. After all, she was Aly Salinger, and she could make friends with a brick wall.

Name of Ability or Race/Talent that you Are Applying for: Part-Veela
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

The Stan family were known for their beauty all across Romania, it wasn’t that they were pretty it was more that each of them had a compelliness to them. Drawn like moths to flame women and men alike would try their hand at the Stan family all with no result. Unlike most veelas, the Stan family were souls who didn’t believe in violence, they prefered true love over the tempestuous obsession that seemed to follow the family. However, many other veelas and half-breeds didn’t believe in the same ideology. The Stan family faced a lot of prejudice from wizards and wizards alike but also from their own veela kind when Lilia’s veela grandmother Kazrolina Stan fell in love with a American wizard named Lucas Ford. Almost immediately after the couples marriage, they faced opposition from a number of fronts whether that be wizarding or veela, it seemed that faced prejudice from everywhere.

Kazrolina and Lucas soon had a baby girl whom they called Alis (Alice). She too inherited the charmlike ways of the veela and the almost bipolar personality that came with it. However, instead of silver hair, she bore a mane of gold, a mix of both her parents' hair. Alis was a docile baby and child, even in her teenage years one wouldn’t think she was a veela. However, things weren’t always sunshine and rainbows. When Alis was 10 years old she had an incident where another child stole her crayons, in true veela fashion she bared her fangs and scared the young boy to high heaven. The Stan’s had to remove Alis from the school she was at and disappear to Norway for a while. Alis was luckily accepted to Durmstrang Institute as 11 years old due to the slightly comforting fact that she was only half a veela. Time passed and Alis met George Eilersten who she fell in love with, the couple bore a single girl; Lilia. The couple moved to Romania but kept Lilia sheltered from the world in case she faced prejudice, Alis didn’t want her sole daughter to face the same things she did.

Lilia was genetically a quarter-veela but she also looked the part. Lilia has light blonde hair that frames her slightly pale face, she has an aura to her that compels one to look at her. She enticed anyone who spared a glance at her to properly go over and take a look at her, keep in mind this was when she was barely 3 years old. As she grew older, so did her beauty. Lilia knew she was pretty, her mother told her this everyday; the girl had long locks of blonde hair and eyes that were like the sea with mixes of green and blue. However, it was only when Lilia had received her Hogwarts acceptance letter that her parents told her of her true heritage. She was a quarter-veela and whilst she may face prejudice she should always be proud of who she was. Lilia was confused at first but the more she thought about it the more it made sense, she had noticed many people had been drawn to her, like she was the sun and everyone craved her attention. She also was prone to violent mood-swings, she could go from being a ray of sunshine to a nightmare that looked like a daydream.

Lilia was originally nervous to be going to Hogwarts as a half-breed but she decided to keep that information to herself, it was her business. If she felt the need to tell someone then she would, there was nothing more to it. Lilia didn’t want to be known as a monster and whilst she respected the veela race she also knew how scary they could be. As of now, she hasn’t had an incident where she has gone as she calls ‘true veela’ and although she does experience some horrifying mood-swings. Lilia tries to keep her emotions at bay making her appear quite closed off as a person. Being a veela wasn’t always a bad thing, Lilia always told herself. She was pretty, there was no point denying that and it was always nice to have people drawn to you and in some rare cases protect you. Lilia was proud to be a veela, her family had been veelas and it made her feel a great connection to her ancestors.

Adelyn has always been excellent at finding things. Whether it be a lost item that no one else could seem to find, or her particular perceptive eye when it came to puzzles. No, Adelyn has always had a talent for finding lost things. Many people in her family suppose it came from her mother. Being a professor in chemistry, Adelyn's mother had always had an interest in the unseeable. Even during labs, it was critical that she didn't blink, for she might miss a spark of light as two molecules interacted, or a slight change in color the moment that the pH of a mixture dropped just below 4. This was something, while it could have also been hereditary, that Adelyn's mother found important to pass on to her daughter. Besides reading Adelyn chemistry textbook to bore the young girl to sleep in her infancy, her mother would often perform mini-chemistry experiments at home - mainly to show that chemistry was good for something more than just boring your 10 month old daughter to sleep. The experiments were simple, but grew in complexity as Adelyn grew older. They were focused on precision - having just the right grams to pour into mixture, stirring at just the right speed, and most importantly, never taking your eyes off of the mixture might something spectacular happen for just a split second while you were looking away.

Upon entering Hogwarts, Adelyn already found that she has been of particular use in the girls dormitory, able to scout out lost shoes or a misplaced book, just when everyone else was about to give up. She finds that this ability is something that could benefit her in one of her very favorite areas of life - Quidditch.

Adelyn fell in love with Quidditch the moment that the words were uttered from another students mouth. She found the entire thing fascinating: the gameplay, the flying on brooms, the adrenaline - all of it! It reminded her of times back at home, where her and her father would recreate plays of football during commercials, feigning goals and cheering loudly. As Adelyn got older, her percision became more exact, and she was able to spot exactly when the right time to shoot was. What began as a friendly reenactment had turned into a little fun competition between her father and her.

So, when Adelyn discovered what the Seeker position was, she was almost too eager to sign up. She achieved a spot on the waitlist, but is quite certain that she may have a natural... ability for it. There is a good chance that her skills on the ground of finding things in just the nick of time might just translate into the air.

Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):

When William Truell met a Veela woman named Anastasia, who wore long garments that glimmered silver that matched the silver floral hair clips adorning her flowing platinum blonde hair, the two fell in love at first sight. A few short years later, they were married and Anastasia found herself pregnant with a baby boy. Nine months later, the half-Veela Kaden Truell was born, with golden locks adorning his head and striking green eyes complimenting his pale features. As Kaden grew older, while his features matured, his porcelain skin remained flawless and free from the blemishes that often plagued the faces of many pre-teenaged children. The Veela blood that runs through his veins has caused Kaden to skip what is colloquially referred to as the “awkward phase” many his age are subject to, though to say this was due only to his genetics would be telling half of the story. Kaden is incredibly vain and considers spending time to perfect his appearance far more important than getting to class on time. He also loves to show off and takes great pride in his singing, dancing, and acting abilities, which he values far more than any class offered at Hogwarts. He loves to entertain people with these musical talents, but even more than that, he loves to be watched and praised by spectators and will do all he can to draw attention to himself while performing. While he truly loves people, he can be manipulative at times, and he knows how to use his charms to get what he wants. As the son of a wealthy father and a very kind mother who can be a bit of an enabler, Kaden grew up spoiled and was able to get nearly everything he wanted. He learned from a young age when to bat his eyelashes and smile sweetly and when to start thinking of something so overwhelmingly upsetting that he would cry fake tears. When Kaden was unable to get what he wanted, however, that was when the less pleasant side of his Veela heritage shines through. Though he may not develop the beak or wings his mother does when she is angry, nor can he throw fireballs from his hands, his fiery temper tantrums are a terrible sight to behold. In these moments, thoughts of his charm or appearance flee his mind, replaced instead by a nearly inconsolable seething rage. In fact, it was one of these moments of rage that caused Kaden to exhibit his first sign of magic, when he was so angered by his father’s insistence that he eat his greens that he instead turned his father’s hair a bright, neon green. After this incident he was sent to his room and later praised by both parents for his first signs of magic, all without ever having to eat his greens, only further solidifying his spoiled nature. Because Kaden is only twelve, at the moment his Veela charm primarily manifests as that of a cute, sweet child who most would never want to dream of upsetting, though others his age who are just starting to learn about attraction may find themselves enamored by his charm.

A wall of red coated his vision. Harsh rubber scraped the tip of his nose. He hadn’t even seen that one coming, his head had just turned on instinct. Reynolds had let a lot go to instinct in the past minute or so. There was no strategy, no logical line of thinking that would get him out of this mess. He had nearly been taken out so many times already, he wasn’t sure how he had survived so long. The only real explanation was luck.

Somewhere he distantly heard the “oof” of his last remaining comrade. He didn’t look to see who it was or how it had happened. He did look to see the gleam in his enemies eyes. There were four of them left, though only two actually looked to be intimidating. They were all haggard, having survived this long, Reynolds supposed he looked a lot like them too. Yet they all smiled, all eyes on him, certain that victory would soon be theirs.

Reynolds wiped his hands on his shorts and quickly picked up a weapon. He had proven to be utterly useless with them but holding it in his hands made him feel like he had some form of protection. The two more intimidating ones had the others pick up weapons as well. All four were armed now. Reynolds briefly considered grabbing a second weapon, but he didn’t dare take his eyes off his four enemies. Besides, what good would a second weapon do him if he couldn’t even use one properly?

Like a pack of wolves, the four approached the black border. It was a solid line that kept them from coming too close. Reynolds kept himself as far away as possible, but he knew the range of their weapons could reach him no matter where he ran. His only hope was to survive long enough that reinforcements arrived or his enemy became bored with him. He didn’t have much hope for either scenario.

There was no warning, no “fire”, no telegraph at all from the four wolves to warn Reynolds of when they would launch their salvo. Suddenly there was just red in the air, coming at him all at once. How had they coordinated their timing so perfectly in such a short amount of time? His instincts took over again, there was no way he could watch or anticipate the movements of so many weapons all at once. His body just moved. It spun and wove as the wolves grabbed more weapons and continued to fire relentlessly.

More than a few times, Reynolds was sure he was done for. At some point, he had thrown his weapon, though as usual, it had only served to give his enemies more ammo as it landed uselessly at their feet. Then, with just as little warning as it had started, the enemy stopped. Reynolds was still in the middle of a squat to avoid one of the projectiles that had been aimed at his head. The temptation to sit was powerful but if they started up again he would surely be taken out.

The largest of the enemy cried out in frustration. “Just stand still so we can end this!”

Curiously, Reynolds noticed that they were breathing heavily. Was it really so hard for them to hit him? It wasn’t like it had been a walk in the park for him to survive their onslaught, clear by his own chest heaving and the sweat catching in his dark eyebrows. Was he really that good?

A whistle blew, a whistle that Reynolds felt like came from another world, another time before all of this had started. Onto the battlefield stepped a man in shorts too short for a grown man and a white t-shirt.

“Alright,” he announced. “It’s almost time for your next class, get yourselves changed.”

“But we haven’t finished the game yet!” said one of the students from the other team. “We should win since they only had one player left!”

“Yeah it’s not fair, he’s too small and he prances around like he’s doing ballet!” supported the big guy who had yelled at him at the end.

“Oh get yourselves together,” coach shook his head. “It’s a tie, it’s just a game, don’t be sore losers cause you can’t hit him.”

The coach turned his attention to Reynolds then, who was still squatting on the floor catching his breath. He had never had the coach look at him in particular before. Not even when he was calling roll. Reynolds was more scared of this interaction that he had been of the entire game of dodgeball.

“That was some great dodging out there,” the man said with an approving nod. “You’re a natural.”
