Aideen Ryan | Ravenclaw | First Year
Full Name: Aideen Monica Ryan
Aideen is a name that fits her perfectly: it means "fire" in the Irish culture. Her last name, Ryan, is the shorter version of the common Irish surname O'Ryan. It means "king". Now, among these two very Irish names is her middle one: Monica. Though it seems out of place, this name carries deep meaning for the Ryan family.
Aideen's mother, Ciara, once met a girl about her age visisting from America. This was before Ciara had met Sinead (Aideen's father) of course. She and Monica became fast friends. Though heartbroken when she had to leave her friend, Monica promised they would get together often. Four months later, she was dead from cancer. Sinead and Ciara had just started dating, and Ciara tearfully told him the night she found out. Sinead was deeply moved and promised that her name would live on.

House: Ravenclaw
Aideen was very uncertain as to which house she would be in, possesing the ambition of Slytherin, the kindness of Hufflepuff, the bravery of Gryffindor, and the intelligence of Ravenclaw. And, in all honesty, she didn't care. Her biggest goal is to work hard and be the best student she could be, so that in the long run she could help out her family. (See History)

Age: 11
Her birthday is July 20th

Wand: 29,1 cm chestnut wood and unicorn hair

School Year: First Year
Aideen is excited to be a third year and go to Hogsmeade, however she intends to get there completely legally. Another thing she looks forward to are the electives and other classes that will be availible.

Patronus: ---

Species: Werewolf (more later!)

History:
Aideen Monica Ryan was born July 5th to her loving parents Sinead Ryan and Ciara Kennedy/Ryan. At a young age, she delighted in animals, as well as campfire stories. She quickly became a talented author and illustrator, and has been writing her own small stories since the age of eight.
Her family, though providing all the things a child needs mentally, is extremely poor. They live in a ramshackle, 1 level house consisting of a bedroom, a bathroom, and a living room. There is one other magical person in the family: Aideen's cousin.
A bit of a jerk, he was accepted into a minor wizarding school. His mother and father kept this a secret until Aideen's letter (of course, Aideen already actually knew about the wizarding world by then, due to the events after she gained her "furry little problem"). Though they were not much of a help getting on to Platform 9 3/4, they did know the best places to shop. It is only fair to say that without this cousin, Aideen would have never shown her first sign of magic. At a family reunion, he pushed her out of the window on the 5th floor of the hotel in which they were staying. (Someone else paid for that, of course.) Thankfully, Aideen just hovered in the air, though her parents were horrified when they found out. The cousin haughtily cast memory charms on them while his mother and father watched helplessly.
This was three months after she found out about magic
Though her family was thrilled when she got her Letter From Hogwarts, they did not know how to pay for it all. Which is when a certain other part of their family decided to step up and explain, as well as providing a few Galleons, while their now-graduated son pouted at the unfairness of what school she ended up in. Only fair, right?

Personality: Aideen could be described as having two sides.
1. Aideen is hardworking and caring, she plans to use her magic to help out her extremely poor family. She is kind and friendly, and get lonely easily without company. She is brave and defiant at times.
2. The other Aideen is quite different. Every once in a while, she will sink in to a depression-like period were she is silent and cold, as untouchable as the air around her. During these times she will brood heavily and not always do her best work.
Both Aideens, however, hate spiders and like to be out on a clear, starry night...

Appearance: Aideen Ryan is very Irish. She has reddish-brown hair and swirling eyes that are a mix of blue, hazel, and gray. She considers the school robes comfortable, but prefers to dress casually in a T-Shirt and leggings. The most jewelry she ever wears is a simple necklace or beaded bracelet, and she absolutely scorns makeup.

It was a year before her letter from Hogwarts. It was the week that was burned into Aideen's memory so clearly. She had been invited to go on a trip to Scotland with her very close friend. He was a much richer boy named Connar Foer, and his family were secretly witches and wizards. Of course, it pained Connar greatly to keep it hidden. Aideen's parents hesitantly let her go, for it was hard for them to realize that she was growing up.

They were on a hike through a thick woodland when the family +1 came across a man. The man that would change her life forever.

He was shockingly thin. His eyes were bloodshot and he had strange patterns of scars on his arms. Strangest of all, the man was tied securely by a thick iron chain to a rather large tree. Connar's mother quickly unbound him and led him back to the place they were staying, apparently deaf to his cries to tie him back up or at least let him loose into the forest again. However, he eagerly ate all that was set in front of him that night, but perhaps that was just a way for him to avoid all the questions they kept asking him.

That night, Aideen woke with a shriek. She had always been fascinated with wolves, and would strongly disagree with anyone who said they were mindless killers. But standing in front of her was a wolfish beast that could only be described as savage. His eyes were pools of darkness as he lunged at her throat. Aideen had time to think Well, that went well, and then pain like nothing else in the world tore through her body. The werewolf had missed her throat but now had his teeth sunk into her arm. She rolled off the bed and under it. There was a horrible, eternal moment when she was falling and still latched in his jaws, being torn in two, and then it was over.

The werewolf snapped and lunged, but he was unable to figure out how to reach her. Just then, a horrified Connar and Family burst into the door. Those who had graduated were skilled wizards as well as greatly outnumbering their foe, and they managed to knock him out. All in the room held their breath as Ms. Foer looked under the bed and slowly pulled out a very pale and unconscious girl who was tightly curled into a ball. Quickly and skillfully she sealed the wound, but she could not reverse the effect of the bite.

Aideen was a werewolf.

A year later, Aideen sat with an opened envelope in her hands. She lightly ran a finger over the seal. Was it possible for a person like her to go to Hogwarts? It would be kept a secret, of course. The Headmaster was okay with it. Her parents were (for the most part) okay with it. But what if I hurt somebody? And if, when, my friends do find out... who could love someone like me? But it was also the opportunity of a lifetime. And she had to put her family first. If she learned magic, she could help them. Aideen stood up. She had made a decision.
