History/Background Story: Katie was born as the last of nine children in a household in Burscough, England that housed all the kids, their parents, and their father's mother. Katie grew up young and sheltered there, all of them piling into the minivan every sunday for church. other than that and the occasional shopping trip, she grew up in that secluded house. her siblings were her friends and playmates, and her grandmother their schoolteacher (they were home-schooled and both parents were working full time as lawyers). when Katie was almost 9 her grandmother died, and the older siblings started teaching and watching the younger ones out of books (learning themselves online.)
when Katie was approaching her 11th birthday, an owl flew directly into the kitchen window, landing on their lawn. Katie rushed outside to help it, as her mother and older sister continued cooking, and found a letter with a fancy H seal on it. she'd previously ignored the signs of magic in her, because her family was all muggles. a pen floating towards her? No, must have been that cough medicine. all the lights flickering when she got into heated debates about the vegetable that should be served for dinner? crazy coincidence. but now, everything suddenly made a lot more sense, and she was about to go to a REAL school for the first time.
At Hogwarts, Katie is immersed in a whole new world here. She has made a lot of friends, ignoring house stereotypes she didn't grow up knowing. she's shy, because she never really had friends before that weren't in here immediate family and obligated to befriend her, but she's also very kind and loyal to the friends she has because she's so bad at making them. she's learning all she can about the Wizard world, and is psyched to be doing so.
