Eilis was born as the result of a brief fling between her father, Cillian, and a witch whose name she's never known. Cillian was fresh off a broken marriage from which he'd gotten full custody of two daughters (Alma and Maebh, respectively six and five years older than Eilis) and looking for any sort of affection, and evidently, he found it in Eilis's mother--for a little while. She got pregnant only a month into their relationship, and ultimately left Eilis and Cillian when Eilis was only two months old. Two years later, Cillian remarried to a kindly young woman named Iona, who not only accepted his three daughters as her own but ultimately gave birth to twin girls, Sorcha and Roisin.

Despite their various origins, the family has always been close as can be. Cillian and Iona were very laid-back parents, who allowed their daughters a sort of freedom that not many would have. They taught their daughters that they were given this freedom because they were trusted, and in turn, the girls did their best to never violate that trust. This resulted in a relationship where the girls felt as though they could tell their parents anything--they'd be endlessly supported, and if they made a mistake, their parents, disappointed as they may be, would always help them resolve it.

Hence why Eilis was so quick to go to her parents when she started showing signs of accidental magic.

Now, Eilis had always been different. Her parents were tranquil hippies, Cillian a charismatic musician and Iona a preschool teacher, and they had passed their gentle demeanor onto their daughters. Alma had grown to be a quiet artist with a passion for watercolor, Maebh to be a hopeless romantic with a talent for interpretative dance, and the twins were both soft-spoken and gentle-hearted girls who loved to read and write. Eilis was no such person.

She'd always been a spitfire, short-fused and sharp-tongued. She excelled in athletics and prided herself on it almost more than she prided herself on her academic talent. She turned everything into a competition and was determined to win every challenge, be the best in everything she took part in, a drive that none of her family shared. Those differences, those were explicable. People had different personalities, that was just the way it was. But this--this made no sense, and it didn't to her parents either. Thankfully, a long time family friend by the name of Oisin McLoughlin proved to have similar abilities, and it was he that introduced them to the world of magic and explained why Eilis was able to do the things she could.

It was through him that Eilis learned of Hogwarts, and quickly formed an intense desire to attend the school. She was absolutely ecstatic when her letter arrived--so much so that she screamed and danced in the silly, childish way she so seldom allowed herself to behave now--and though she was surprised by the house she was sorted into, she certainly wasn't complaining.

Her time at Hogwarts has only just begun, so only time will tell what the school holds for her.
