Pre-Hogwarts HIstory
Ellara Butler was always an absolutely exuberant child growing up, though she’d been so in a rather mundane way. The young, muggle-born witch was an only child, growing up in a cozy, well-furnished, two-story home near the inner workings of Manchester, England. A good number of her days were spent drawing, reading, or entertaining herself, but when her two working parents were available, they’d always have the family tradition of exploring the city, embarking on magical scavenger hunts where Ell would track down a missing pot of gold, or catch what she would wholeheartedly claim to be a fairy fluttering within a flower garden. Her parents had done a lovely job of nurturing her imagination, even without the knowledge of her peculiar origins.

On April thirteenth of the year she was ten, tragedy struck when her mother, Katerina Butler, was killed in an ill-fated car crash on a stormy day, returning home from work. Her father, Ryan Butler, was devastated, and no matter her efforts to cheer him and herself up, the bright memories of her home and the wonderful city around her began to fade. Her outdoor excursions grew less and less, and although she was happy at school and healthy in all social mannerisms that a ten-year-old girl should be, there was no denying the strange silence that now took over her house, eerily the loudest sound of all.

Of course, that year, while riddled with tragedy, has also brought upon some rather peculiar events that would lead her down a life-altering path, for better or for worse. On one particular day, when she longed for the mother’s touch she could no longer feel, she’d lost one of her mom’s old necklaces, a locket, to be exact, with a picture of her mum and toddler-Ellara. In a frantic frenzy, she’d practically torn her room apart, digging through piles of trinkets, until all of a sudden, with a wave of her arm, it came flying straight at her from an unknown source! Ell, of course, never told anyone about the strange telekinetic occurrence, and a small part of her believed it to be her mother’s ghost, until she learned the truth about her special ability later on.

When Ellara’s eleventh birthday came around, her dad did his best to make the day as “magical,” as it could be, no doubt putting in all of the extra effort in hopes of distracting from the blaring fact that her mother would no longer be present for their usual familial rituals. She was pretty sure he hadn’t planned for the “magical” idea to be literal, but as if graced by Fate herself, Ellara Butler’s Hogwarts letter arrived in the post, and her destiny to follow the path of witches, wizards, and magical spells was sealed.

Naturally, the curious and ecstatic girl demanded they go off in search of this rumored “Diagon Alley” at once, and from June twenty-ninth on, she busied herself with learning all she could of the new world that upturned everything she thought of her current reality. Witches! Wizards! Spells! Flying! Magical elixirs AND magical animals. She wanted it all, and soon enough, she’d be finding it, as she bid her Dad adieu and embarked the mysterious red train that would take her on the journey of a lifetime...
Personality

While occasionally shy to first impressions (only because she doesn't want to be rude in interrupting a conversation or the likes), Ellara is a naturally curious and bubbly girl once she warms up to someone. She can be a bit awkward, in an endearing sort of way, but will never fail to be there for those who she thinks to need her. When presented with injustice, she will not hesitate to stand up for what she believes in, even if she must do so alone (but everything is better with friends, right?). She's eager to learn more about the world of magic she's been so fortunate to become a part of, and will take every opportunity she can to get more involved.

Physical Description

Ellara stands at 4’8’’ with an average, somewhat athletic frame for someone of her age. She is most noticeable for her striking red hair, which is usually worn straight unless she's been graced with some magical curls for the first time in her life. Her most prominent features are the plethora of freckles that dot her cheeks, arms, and practically her entire body, and her simple, blue eyes. She can often be found wearing a silver heart-shaped locket, which contains a picture of her and her mother as a keepsake and memory of the past.

Wand
Wand: 25,4 cm Chesnut Wood w/ Thestral Hair

Chesnut Wood: This is a most curious, multi-faceted wood, which varies greatly in its character depending on the wand core, and takes a great deal of colour from the personality that possesses it. The wand of chestnut is attracted to witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers. However, when paired with dragon heartstring, it may find its best match among those who are overfond of luxury and material things, and less scrupulous than they should be about how they are obtained. Conversely, three successive heads of the Wizengamot have possessed chestnut and unicorn wands, for this combination shows a predilection for those concerned with all manner of justice.

Thestral Hair: The Thestral Hair core is a rather ambiguous object, as it belongs to a creature that can only be observed by those who have witnessed death itself. It is rumored that one must have witnessed death first-hand in order to utilize this type of wand core, and Thestral Hair was most notably used in the creation of the Elder Wand.
