Ember is small and scrawny. Her most prominent feature is her great bushy shock of hair in brightest ginger which she is proud of and seldom plaits. Her eyes, seeming unusually big in her thin freckled face with high cheekbones, are of an olive green which the young witch describes as “quite unspectacular, but nice”. They can only be seen through her big glasses with thin turquoise rims.
She proudly wears her school uniform and shiny black boots. Her pointed hat often looks different to the others’ because she loves modifying her clothing by e. g. painting the headwear in the colours of her house or showing support for her Quidditch team by wearing a patch with its colours.

The young girl loves everything that needs a creative mind like hers; she is often seen with one or two pens tucked into her blazer pocket or her hands full of acrylic paint. She is determined to get an ‘O’ on everything she does, a Professor teaching her can be sure she’ll always put up her hand as high as she can to answer a question. The subjects she expects to be her favourites are Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts. Ember’s got a great amount of self-esteem and is definitely the kind of person who is able to speak for herself. She can be the best friend in the world if she likes someone, but Ember is not the kind of person you want to have as an enemy. She fights to reach her goals and can be quite fierce if someone annoys her.

Ember grew up in Brighton, a town on the coast of England. She loves being near the sea or exploring the beach; these are two of the things she’ll miss most. She lives in a small house with her younger sister, Helen, who is a lot shier and less colourful, but still dearly loves Ember. Being a half-blood, she has experienced magic through her mum, Rose Cumberland, who often tells her about her own time at Hogwarts: she was in Gryffindor. Ember isn’t yet sure which house she likes best: she likes Ravenclaw because it seems to be perfect for clever, witty teenagers like her, but Gryffindor seems to be “bolder and more interesting”.
Her father, Bryan Jones, is a Muggle. He is proud of “his three girls” and their magic and very interested in the wizard world even though he doesn’t understand everything.
First discovery of magic
Ember discovered she was able to do magic very early. Her parents had often wondered if she could, seeing as one was a Muggle and one a witch, and they did not know what Ember would be, but one day, when she, as a six-year-old, climbed up a tree in their garden, slipped from a branch and fell, she soared over the lawn and landed safely on the ground. In the first moment, her parents were afraid - had their neighbors seen it? But when they were sure that the Muggles on one side were on vacation and the others hadn't seen anything through the thick hedge, they celebrated with their daughter. After this she longed to know everything about the magic world and asked all her relatives about it.
