Hjørdis (pronounced 'Yordis') was brought up in South Africa many years some time ago. At 5:09 in the morning on the 5th of September 1988, more precisely. Daughter to a pureblood Irish mother and a muggle mixed race father who identified closer to his Scandinavian roots and heritage, the girl was blessed with a rich and diverse culture. Her father, Lars, was an army man, with both of his parents, some grandparents and a number of other relatives all found to have served in the army too. A few of them had held high ranks but the majority left after a few years to settle down with their families. Being from a military family, the Jensens travelled around quite a fair bit. Although there was a lot of Scandinavian in their bloodline, there have been recent traces of other races mixed in too with his mother being South African and one of his grandmothers being American.

Lars always had a promising career in the muggle army. From a young age, he quickly ascended through the ranks. He was a determined, hardworking and loyal man. He was an incredible loving, kind and good father. He doted on his only child, giving in to her whims a little more easily than he would anyone else's. But he was also very strict and disciplined.

Hjørdis grew up with her paternal grandmother, Kirsten, for the most part. Her father did his best to always be present, however he was forced to spend most of his time working in order to support the family. Her paternal grandfather, Bjørn, had a big hand in raising her too, after he found a local job to spend more with his wife. Her mother had left her with the family, in South Africa and returned home to Ireland shortly after her birth.

Her mother, Muirenn, was not always present in her life when she was growing up. She wrote to her, sending her letters and gifts mostly. Though she did visit every so often or take her on trips for a weekend. However, her parents were not married. Hjørdis grew up as a muggle far away from the wizarding world, despite having a pureblood mother.

When  Muirenn and Lars first met, the couple fell for each other and they fell quickly. Lars was an attractive man with a promising career. He was charming, suave and a little bit mysterious. Muirenn was a young beautiful woman who was instantly memorised by him. She fell for him quickly, as he did her. Muirenn was an Irish woman that came from a long line of pureblood witches and wizards. Daughter of Doireann Burke and Bran Murphy, Muirenn should not have fallen for a muggle. She was perhaps the first in her direct family line to do so. When she found out she was pregnant, she was afraid of telling her parents. It was an accident that was not supposed to happen. She was young and still had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. Being a mother at eighteen was not on her life plans. Muirenn stayed in South Africa with Lars and his parents during her pregnancy. The child was born and raised in South Africa, with her paternal grandmother’s family, where she grew up for her most of her preteen years.

Hjørdis grew up with her father's strict guidance but she spent most of her childhood with her paternal grandparents, who looked after her whenever her father was deployed. Her mother returned to her life when she was a toddler, deciding she could not be away from her child any longer. But Lars and Muirenn's relationship was on a rocky edge by this point. Although she did not live with Lars and Hjørdis, Muirenn visited her often and occasionally took her for a few days when Lars had to work longer hours. Being a witch meant that Muirenn could easily visit without needing to worry about expenses or the time of muggle transport.

Although her mother hailed from a pureblood family, 'magic' was not a word mentioned in her household for many years. Muirenn had never disclosed that information to Lars or his family. She left because she was too young to handle the responsibility of children, rather than admitting that it was also because her parents would never accept a muggle son-in-law or halfblood granddaughter.

On her fifth birthday, Hjørdis was promised that her mother would show up. She had not seen her in many months but she was told that Muirenn would attend. When she failed to appear, Hjørdis got so mad. She should have been used to being disappointed but for some reason, she was not. She believed in her mother - and she was hurt. In her anger, she screamed and shouted. Her grandfather could have sworn that he saw one of the tea cups on the table - the closest one to Hjørdis - suddenly go flying into the wall. Lars and Kirsten thought he was just seeing things. However, the teacup did show up smashed. It was believed that Hjørdis just threw something at it, causing it go flying. At the age of seven, however, they would find out the truth. Muirenn finally admitted the truth in one of her visits. It took some convincing, especially for Lars to finally understand.

Despite her very muggle upbringing, at the age of eleven, Hjørdis was to go to a Wizarding school. Being told she could do magic was a shock to her - and to her father, who had only found out some years - but also incredibly exciting. However, she saw her father's success without it and grew up in an environment where she naturally did things the muggle way and that has had a big impact on her mentality.

On her eleventh birthday, a Dream Messenger appeared to her in her sleep. She woke up to find a stone in her hand. It was inscribed. It told her of her acceptance into the Uagadou School of Magic, where she would start in the new school year.

Although she had grown up to be a “daddy’s girl”, it was at Uagadou that she finally started to connect with her mother a little more. During holidays or when she had questions or queries about the magical world, her mother was her point of contact and through that connection, they finally started to bridge the gap that had been placed on their relationship since the very beginning. It was in Uganda that Hjørdis took a new name, after giving up trying to correct people who got her name wrong. She went by the name, ‘Nora’, before she was sixteen, which was a name used in both the Irish and Scandinavian cultures to symbolise her connection and roots to both sides of the family. It was during this time that she finally started to connect to her maternal side of the family, who did end up welcoming her in the end, despite her mother’s initial fears. Perhaps enough time had passed, perhaps they no longer cared of the pureblood lineage, perhaps they had just given up with Muirenn. Nora did not know but she finally started to connect with her maternal, magical family a little more.

She excelled in a few subjects, finding a passion and growing interest in discovering more about the magical world. Magical creatures that she once thought were simply stories of myths and legends were found to be real. Dragons, Unicorns and the magnificent Phoenix to name but a few. Upon graduation, Nora began an apprenticeship in alchemy to continue her training. Her father's unexpected death, however, changed everything. It happened a few months after her graduation. If Nora lived at home, she certainly could have healed him. However, as a muggle, the man could not heal himself following his accident.

Her dream had been to study alchemy, researching cures. She wanted to be a healer. It was a cruel sense of irony to lose a loved one due to the lack of healing. It should have made her more passionate to achieve her dream. But it made her realise that her father's own dreams were left incomplete. She changed to pursue her father's dreams - following the line of military relatives, enforcing the law. Nora changed to work in the Ministry equivalent aboard in Scandinavia, where she worked as an Auror for a few years. Though, being an auror was not really something she enjoyed. It was something she felt she had to do - to pursue her family's dream of continuing the military line.

However, she had always specialised in alchemy and potions, over spell casting or fighting. After a few years as an Auror, her grandparents convinced her to try her hand at alchemy again. Being an Auror was not something she thoroughly enjoyed. It was also one of the reasons that she ended up splitting from her then partner, Jelani Adeyemi, who she had been with for a few years. There were times when she had to travel away for work, chasing down a target or investigating a crime. Given how seriously she took her work, she often spent months away from home. It eventually caused a strain on their relationship, causing issues.

It was not long until she got recruited in the Department of Mysteries in the British Ministry as an unspeakable, working in the Death Chamber. Danger and sworn secrecy were two things that she knew by heart before the age of thirty. Being an unspeakable in the ministry seemed to be the best way for her to fulfill the closest she could to her father's dream as well as her own. Everything that happened during her time as an unspeakable was, quite obviously, not something she shared. It was draining, at times. There were moments where she questioned it. However, it was during these years where she would return to her alchemy training and practiced it whenever she could.

At some point, the lines started to blur. Despite working for the ministry, she found her heart being torn apart. Working in the Department of Mysteries started to affect her. It made her question things. She eventually realised that some things were not really meant to be messed with. Death, for example, was not something to be played with. After her grandparents passed, she broke. Losing her loved ones and dealing with death every day at work was simply not something she wished to do.

She stepped away, reassessed. Her dream of healing was the course she knew she had to take. During these months, she found out about incidents occurring at Hogwarts after her school friend - Professor Benoit, who taught Divination at the time - told her of the vacancies. Her second cousin, Dymphna Teague, had just finished her first year. Not wanting to lose any more loved ones, Nora applied. Moving away from the world of criminals and death, she moved to work with children. She was offered a job at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry shortly after her thirtieth birthday. Starting in October 2018, she became the new Head of Slytherin House. It was never meant to be permanent. It was a temporary role to help ensure that her family was safe, before she left to undertake healing alchemy and finally follow her own dreams. But somehow, somewhere along the line, the school started to win her over - or perhaps the people within it. Within the walls of the school, she started to open up the heart that she had closed and learned to start caring where she had stopped.

Nora is driven and very disciplined like her father had been. He instilled an army mindset in her from a young age, that kept her focused and probably was the reason she excelled at school and constantly pushed herself in her career. She is  motivated and ambitious, perhaps a bit arrogant in her abilities to do something and vain about her appearance too.

To this day, she remains the Head of Slytherin.
