He's a regular-sized kid.
Standing tall at a current eight feet, Hugh's part-giant heritage makes him stand out in a crowd. He's got brown hair and is usually seen sporting a decent set of sideburns. He does not make himself appear approachable and will likely not meet your eye unless he has actual business to attend with you. The fact that his head is practically in the clouds, makes this easy for him.
A refilling bottle of milk and a burnt sofa were all it took to convince Hugh's uncle that his adopted son was in fact, magical.
Hugh's aunt and uncle had led a reserved but happily married life. Mr. Lowe worked as a fisherman at the opposite riverbank, while Mrs. Lowe did a bit of accounting for some local farmers. The couple seemed at peace, until their son came into the world…
Hugh's aunt had decided to keep the truth of her being a witch from his uncle unless really necessary. With the possibility of Hugh possessing magical abilities, she thought it's best to finally inform her husband of what might happen and who she really was.
But her husband would have none of it. He actually knew of the magical world. Being a squib in his own family, he had been forced to leave that world behind him. Faced with these wizards and witches again, his relationship with his wife turned sour as he kept refusing to see Hugh as a wizard.
Until the day came when Hamish was forced to see reason, as the bottle of milk his son had just finished was refilling itself. Believing it to be some new "magic" bottle his wife had given the boy, Hugh's uncle simply ignored the trickery as if it did not bother him any more. To his own sadness, not a mere day later, he witnessed his son setting fire to their couch with no match nor lighter in his hands.
Though there was no significant damage to the house or its furniture, Mr. Lowe never seemed the same after their family's little revelation. Luckily, young Hugh turned out to grow into a kind and calm child. His son being seemingly "normal" allowed for Hugh's uncle to open up after a while. Though one could always notice a flicker of caution in his eyes.
His wife on the other hand seemed to blossom after Hugh's magical discovery. Feeling proud that her boy would grow up to be a wizard, just like she had become a witch. But as the years went by, that pride made room for tension. As her husband opened up towards their son too, she could seemingly not stand that Hugh seemed to act more and more to his uncle's likeness.
Eventually, his aunt had grown into a troubled woman. Blaming her husband for claiming their son and feeling Hugh had disappointed her in "choosing his uncle's side". She left the house in 2015. Leaving no note with a reason and no trace of an address.
Although Hugh's life was marked by his mother's sudden departure, it did not affect his character. In fact, there was no one that would have ever claimed the boy held any harmful feelings towards another life.
