Appearance: Masika has dark brown eyes that are often mistaken for black unless viewed in direct lighting. Her shoulder-length curly black hair is silky, but is difficult to tame at the best of times. Freckles paint her button nose and are splattered randomly across her warm olive-toned skin. Masika falls right at the average height for an eleven year old at 4’7” (144 cm), and as she loses her baby fat, her emerging cheekbones and willowy frame have started to give her a bit of a fae appearance.

History/Background Story:
Born under uncommon circumstances to the disowned pureblood Akil Morales née Samir and his muggle husband Carlos Morales, Masika has spent much of her short life in a blend of several cultures. With the assistance of an unconventional former Mediwitch with a PhD in genetics who acted as the surrogate, Masika was born with a mixture of both of her fathers’ and the surrogate’s DNA. This mixture of magic and science was highly unconventional at the time, and it was agreed upon to keep what the woman had done a secret to protect everyone involved.

Despite her irregular beginnings, Masika was a completely normal child. Due to her wizard father’s job as a Ministry-employed curse breaker, and her muggle father’s job as an archeologist, their small family spent as much time bouncing between archaeological digs as they did in their small home located near the National Museum of Ireland where Carlos was employed, once Masika was old enough to travel. Prior to that, Carlos and Akil alternated travelling for work, often bringing Masika back seashells from coastal areas, and other small souvenirs found during their excursions. Once she was able to join her parents on their trips, Masika began collecting items herself, building up quite the accumulation of odds and ends, which she stored at their home whenever they returned. Masika loved to travel, finding everything about the places they went to fascinating, and occasionally getting herself into trouble because of her own curious nature much to her two fathers’ (loving) exasperation.

Despite how many places they visited, Masika’s favourite places to go were the hometowns of her fathers: Barcelona, Spain, and Port Said Egypt. It was in these places that she learned the most about her beloved fathers, and though the pureblood line of Samir had disowned her wizard father, she found her muggle abuelos more than made up for this with their acceptance of her, both of her fathers, and even the occasional inexplicable happening without so much as batting an eye.

The first indication that she had taken after her pureblood father and muggleborn surrogate occurred when her two frazzled parents were trying to wean her from her pacifier at the age of three. No matter how they tried to hide it or otherwise be rid of it, the pacifier continued to appear in her mouth, and it took going to local a pediatric mediwitch for the problem to be solved by spelling the pacifier to be unpleasantly bitter. From there her magic continued to spiral, as is common with magical children; small bits of magic occurred at random, with sporadic instances of far more overt magic during the even-tempered child’s rare temper tantrums.

Aside from her grandparents, Masika spent most of her time around adult historians, curse breakers, and other academics. This further stoked her budding interest in history, magic, and learning, but left her with little experience in the way of dealing with children. Combined with how often she found herself travelling, she rarely interacted with anyone close to her age for very long, and never seemed to find the inclination to make friends either. After receiving her Hogwarts letter during a trip to Egypt, Akil and Carlos made sure to impress upon her how important it was that she at least try to make one or two friends while she was away from them at school. Knowing that they had her best interests at heart, she agreed. After packing their belongings and returning to Ireland, they took the Floo to Diagon Alley to pick up everything she would need for school, and the moment they returned home Masika immediately set to work trying her best to absorb the books that she had purchased.

When it came time to board the Hogwarts Express, Masika found herself dreading being without her parents for such a prolonged period of time, but turned her attention to the daunting task of socialization with other children instead. The prospect wasn’t entirely pleasant in and of itself, but the eleven year old at least hoped it would prove to be distracting enough.
