History/Background Story: Beck was born in 2006, on November 13th. He was a rather rowdy baby, compared to his quieter siblings - he cried more, had more tantrums, but this didn't discourage his parents. Although they had never experienced such a loud child, they were willing to raise him just as well as the others. His upbringing was rather normal, until his 4th birthday party. The other children were running around the table playing tag, screaming and laughing, but it was time to cut the cake. The excited children didn't seem to bother anyone, except Beck. He clenched his fists in a fit of anger under the table and all of a sudden, the cake had flown across the table and onto the floor - of course his parents knew exactly what this meant, their 5th son was, well, not only a brat, but magic.

From then on, Beck's life became more about his preparation to attend Hogwarts when he turned 11. They wanted the finest Wizarding World education for their last child and they would have done anything to get it. Beck was very different from his other siblings, but nobody seemed to realise. He would shout when he got angry, he would always take charge of situations and never liked being told what to do. His parents just assumed he was like this because he was a child, and he would grow out of it as he grew up. After all, he wasn't like this all the time. But when he was 9-years-old, his best Muggle friend moved far away, and this broke Beck completely. He was still a rather timid boy when he was calm, but nothing seemed to phase him anymore - it was like his best friend left, and his heart left with it.

After that, nothing else mattered that much, all Beck wanted was approval from his family and everyone around him. He would get into Hogwarts, he would be in Griffindor, and he would make his father proud.

𝗙𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗟𝗬
𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿

Beck’s mother (Sophia Warrington) was 16 when she met his father (Jude McCarthy), who was an 18-year-old, freshly graduated Hogwarts student, although she had no clue of this. Sophia came from a home who had no magic in their family, and she herself had no magical ability – she barely even knew anything about magic, she just thought it was the kind of thing from the fairy-tales. When they met, it was love at first sight, in fact, Sophia felt like she was in a fairy-tale. At the beginning, Jude tried his hardest to hide his magical ability, and she barely met his parents because he came from a long line of Pureblood wizards (of which who were definitely not happy that their son had fallen for a common human). But then the relationship quickly started to get serious as the two spent more and more time together, and so was the time for Jude to tell Sophia that he was in fact a Wizard. At first, Sophia didn’t know how to react and for a rather long time she thought he was joking, but everything soon started to make sense and she was extremely taken back by the news – Jude was elated, he didn’t have to hide anymore and she seemed to be taking the news rather well. Their relationship only seemed to grow stronger. They married at ages 20 and 22 and after all these years, their love has never grown weak. They had 5 beautiful children who they all love dearly.

Now, Sophia McCarthy (at 47) and Jude McCarthy (at 49) co-own a flower shop in the streets of Canterbury called The Tilted Tulip.

𝗦𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀
𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗻, 𝟮𝟲

Donovan is the oldest of 5 children, and also happens to be the only Squib in the McCarthy family. He was born to Sophia and Jude when they were 21 and 23 years old, and quickly became the new loves of their life. He is around 6'2 with brown hair and light blue eyes - just like his father's. He now has a daughter of his own, who he called Rebecca (inspiration from Beck's name). He attended common public school and although he has no magical ability, he is an extremely intelligent man, but a lot of his intelligence went to waste when he turned 23. He felt like an outcast in his family because he wasn't magic like his other siblings, and although neither of his parents minded that he was a Squib, Donovan had an extremely hard time trying to fit in - he thought he didn't belong. He got a chainlink tattoo around his neck to symbolise how sometimes he thought of himself as trapped - trapped in the Muggle world doing Muggle things while his siblings were training to become Wizards and Witches. Donovan now works as a full-time car mechanic.

𝗟𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗲𝘁𝗵, 𝟮𝟮

Lilibeth is the next child and the only female, born 4 years after Donovan and is a Witch. As she was born with magic in her blood, she received her Hogwarts Letter at age 11 and went on to be one of Ravenclaw's most reputable members, along with one of their memorable chasers in house Quidditch. She graduated from Hogwarts at 18-years-old and moved out of the family home to start her own life when she turned 21. She has short black hair and beautiful hazel eyes, and stands around 5'6 - the smallest of the siblings. She now lives close by to her parent's home and often helps with the flower shop from time to time, although she is currently trying to get a job at the Ministry of Magic. She is close with her parents, especially her mother because she is the only daughter in the McCarthy family.

𝗟𝘆𝗱𝗲𝗻, 𝟭𝟵

Lyden also has magic and is a Wizard, therefore he also attended Hogwarts, but as a Gryffindor member - much like his father, who was also a Gryffindor. Being sorted into Gryffindor was one of Lyden's dreams ever since he found out he was magic, so when it came true, he was absolutely elated. He is 5'11 with a slightly stronger build than his older brother, Donovan. He has dirty blonde hair and very light brown eyes. He currently still lives with his parents and is attempting to find somewhere he can live on his own to also start his new life. When he graduated from Hogwarts, he started a part-time job at a bookstore, but has since been taken on full time. He is very much the joker of the pack, he finds happiness in other people's laughter and although he works around books, he is not much of a reader. He will always make light out of a bad situation and is the most reliable sibling to make you feel better when you feel blue.

𝗡𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘀, 𝟭𝟱

Nikolas is the only other sibling who is currently still studying at Hogwarts - as a 5th year student. He is also a Ravenclaw and has been trying to follow in his older sister's footsteps, by signing up for Quidditch and being chosen as the Ravenclaw team's go-to Chaser. He is very proud to be part of his house and also still feels honoured to have been chosen for the Quidditch team - although he is very modest about it. He is 5'9 with a slender build, and has mesmerisingly blue eyes with dark brown hair, almost black. His favourite class is Potions, and he has expressed a large interest in one day becoming a Professor at Hogwarts so he can continue with his most desired class.

𝗕𝗘𝗖𝗞'𝗦 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗗𝗔𝗬
It was the early morning of July 18th, the house filled with Sophia's voice as she attempted to simultaneously wake everyone up as well as gather them all downstairs, "POST IS HERE! NIKKY, LYDEN, BECK, COME DOWNSTAIRS!" The noise startled Jude as he jumped at the kitchen table, making his newspaper rattle slightly in his hands. He basked in the few seconds of silent bliss before a stampede of feet grew louder and louder as the boys flew down the stairs. Everyone knew what was coming, it had to be today, Beck turned 11 at the end of last year and the new school year is coming up.

Sophia was flicking through the post casually, when all of a sudden, there it was. She stared down at the envelope that read, "MR. B. MCCARTHY". She looked down at Beck and tears filled her eyes before she could even speak and pass the letter over with a shaky hand, "It's for you.." Beck took the envelope with both hands as his brothers egged him on to open it.

His father stood up and moved his was behind him, bringing himself down to his level so he could whisper into his son's ear, "It's time, kiddo. This is what you've been waiting for, go ahead." The minute Beck heard his father's voice and his hands touch his shoulders, it was like an approval - he tore open the envelope as carefully as he could, fiddling with the wax seal for a moment before. He unfolded the letter and started to read, everyone stood around him with light in their eyes as they watched Beck closely.

Dear Mr McCarthy,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...

Beck finished reading the whole letter before looking up at every single person in the room. Silence. Dead silence. Suddenly Beck threw his arms up into the air, his letter with it, and let out the loudest roar of joy Canterbury had ever experienced. Soon after joined his family, his father picked him up on his shoulder and the two boys danced around them happily. It was finally here. Beck was going to be like the others, he was going to experience the stories he'd been hearing about since he was born.

Beck was met with his entire family at Platform 9¾. Of course his mother was crying, she always did, even though she went through this multiple times with her other children. "My baby is finally going to be a real Wizard," she sobbed into Beck's shoulder as she held him with the tightest but most loving grip. Once it was time to board the Hogwarts Express, Beck's father stood with him outside the train entrance so they could have a private moment. "This is it, kiddo. You're already 11-years-old.. You're growing up so fast," Jude's eyes began to well up with tears, something that hadn't happened with his other children, "Soon you'll be a big grown up and you won't even need me to reach the top shelf for you anymore." Jude pulled Beck into a hug, presumably so he wouldn't see the tears starting to roll down his cheeks. The best hug. The kind of hug people dream of having in their lifetimes.
"I love you, dad," Beck mumbled into his father's chest as his own eyes started to sting slightly.
"I love you too, kiddo."
