HISTORY/BACKGROUND STORY (Pre-Hogwarts)

Reducio
Tedrick's story begins about half a decade before his birth, starting with his mother, a pure-blood witch by the name of Minh Lee. Minh had been a Hogwarts graduate for four years, being a Potion Master's apprentice for a while before deciding that Magizoology was more of her calling. She went around the world, studying magical creatures in their natural habitat and eventually flew to America; there is where she met her future husband and Tedrick's father, Morgan Hadfield, at the local zoo. The two fell in love immediately and -perhaps it was pure stupidity or true love- were married within a year.

But there was only one problem: Morgan was a muggle.

Morgan and Minh had a lovely marriage for five blissful years with Minh never daring to confess to her husband that she was a witch. Despite the fact that she had not invited her family to her wedding, Minh soon received an owl informing her that she had been disowned and would not be left anything to inherit; nevertheless, Minh was happy. Of course, all good things must come to an end. About four years after Tedrick was born, Morgan caught Minh performing magic to cheer the young boy up by making Tedrick's stuffed puppy fly into the air and dance. Simultaneously outraged and terrified, Morgan left Minh and Tedrick's lives a month later.

Brokenhearted, Minh stayed in America for two more years before flying back to England to stay with her best friend, Vincent Blackwell, when Tedrick was six years old. As a result of having lived in America for so long, Tedrick never really lost his Californian accent. Vincent Blackwell's home was located in a wizarding neighborhood hidden away in the center of a muggle city and the young tawny haired child grew up surrounded by magic and strange stories such as The Tales of Beedle the Bard. After Tedrick's seventh birthday, he still hadn't shown any signs of magic yet, and both Minh and Vincent decided that the young boy simply wasn't magical; despite this, Minh still loved her child and spent many hours playing with him. Tedrick was enrolled in a muggle school where he quickly proved to be a smart and hardworking child, working his way to the top of every class. Every day, Tedrick would come home from school with bumps and scrapes here and there and a grand story of how much fun he had that day.

Of course, that wasn't really the case. Being a young boy from a wizarding "family" had its downsides, and Tedrick never really managed to fit in. His strange accent and awkward stutter mixed with his lack of knowledge of how muggle machines worked set him apart from his classmates and his refusal to start any trouble at all made him the perfect target for bullying. Tedrick spent his free time at school often being harassed by a group of older boys and wandering around alone because nobody wanted to attract attention to themselves by talking to him. To put it simply, school sucked. He refused to voice his troubles for fear of piling more stress on Minh and Vincent. His refusal to spill his guts were mirrored at school as well, and Tedrick ignored the jabs and stupid pranks the bullies loved to play. This only made the bullies even more determined to rile him up and to say that they were relentless would be a terrible understatement.

Eventually, they learned the one thing that would get a reaction out of Tedrick: insulting his mother. The first time it happened, Tedrick got into a fight that left him with a black eye. The only thing that saved him from suspension was the benefit of the doubt and a few well-placed lies. Minh tried her best to hide her disappointment, but Tedrick knew. Since then, he stayed out of fights, choosing to wage war againt the older boys with nothing but his wit and a sharp tongue. Sure, he had a sense of self-preservation, but his sense of pride was stronger. Perhaps it would've been better for Tedrick to be homeschooled, but he was absolutely determined not to run away from a problem that he figured he could endure.

Then, tragedy struck the Lee family yet again in an accident that proved fatal. On a cold, December morning, Vincent was out working at his apothecary and Minh had been working on her newest book when she suddenly heard a loud crash; Tedrick had found Vincent's potions cabinet and accidentally dropped a couple bottles. As Minh ran through the building to the source of the sound, the potions began mixing, forming an unstable and explosive mixture. Tedrick, not wanting to get in trouble, attempted to pick up the broken pieces of glass, only succeeding in knocking over yet another bottle in his panic. Just then, Minh burst into the room, wand in hand; she quickly assessed the situation and grabbed Tedrick, shoving him out of the room and closing the door behind him. Just as Minh turned to try to stop the dangerous reaction, the concoction exploded. The funeral was held on a bright, beautiful day that seemed to mock the tragic incident.

Tedrick knew that it was all his fault.

Minh's death seemed to change something in the small, unhappy seven-year-old and on that stupidly sunny day, Tedrick began showing signs of underage magic. Vincent had gone to Tedrick's room and informed the child that it was time to leave for the service only to find Tedrick sitting listlessly in the corner of his room and making his stuffed dog dance sluggishly around the room in an attempt to cheer himself up. When Vincent got over his shock and surprise, he reminded Tedrick that it was time to leave again, only to be pelted by a barrage of toys; Tedrick was levitating object after object in fury while asking Vincent where had he been during the accident in the most outraged voice a seven-year-old could muster. After one particularly pointy and heavy toy car hit Vincent in the eye and drew blood, Tedrick knew he had gone too far. The brunet child rushed over, babbling incoherent apologies and cleaning up as Vincent nursed the soon-to-be black eye. From that day onward, Tedrick continued showing signs of underage magic which included turning Vincent's white cat, Maurice, a brilliant shade of fuchsia, accidentally conjuring blue flames and setting his math book ablaze at school in frustration, and levitating small objects when upset.

Eventually, Tedrick received his letter to Hogwarts and the rest is history.

Extra Facts

Reducio
Although Vincent is not blood-related to Tedrick at all, the caramel-haired boy tends to call Vincent, "Uncle Vincent". Vincent himself finds it a little embarrassing; to make things a little worse, ever since Tedrick started living with Vincent, Vincent's friends and family often made the mistake of assuming that Tedrick is his son. Tedrick finds this hilarious.

Tedrick is surprisingly good at lying and this had often gotten him out of trouble with both Vincent and his neighbors. Of course, Tedrick obviously didn't get into mischief often.

Tedrick doesn't make friends too easily, but he has a special bond with a big stray dog that lived near his apartment. The mutt was very scruffy and skinny when the seven-year-old Tedrick found her, and he promptly named the dog... Mop. According to Tedrick, it was because "Mop's fur is really dirty and tangled like the mop in the closet that you never use, Uncle Vincent! And she's skinny like a mop too!"

Tedrick looks like a carbon copy of his father (he only knows this because Minh and Vincent mentioned it a lot and he has seen photographs). He has never actually said it out loud, but Tedrick hates his resemblance and wished he looked like his mother instead; Tedrick would rather look like a person who faced her troubles with a brave face rather than a person who ran away at the first sign of trouble.

Maurice - Seven-years-old. Persian Cat. This house cat lives with Vincent Blackwell and harbors a burning hatred towards Tedrick Lee. He spends his days knocking over Tedrick's stuff and hoarding socks under the couch. Hates Mop.

Crushes/Romantic Relationships

Relatives
Minh Lee - Deceased. She is Tedrick's mother who died at the age of 33. Minh was disowned from her pureblood family, thus leaving Tedrick no contacts to his wizarding family.

Vincent Jules Blackwell - 37-years old. Not blood-related. He is Tedrick's current guardian and is known, much to his embarrassment, as "Uncle Vincent" by Tedrick. Vincent Blackwell was Minh's best friend since childhood and it was he who she came to when her husband left her.

Morgan Hadfield - Age unknown. Currently in America. Morgan is Tedrick's father; after finding out Minh was a witch when Tedrick was four years old, Morgan left his wife and son. Tedrick currently has no contact with his father (not that he'd want to contact him anyway).

APPEARANCE

Tedrick has a hairstyle that is best described as a fluffy shock of tawny brown hair that constantly needs to be pushed back from his face. He has a naturally fair skin tone with freckles dotted across his nose and cheeks, and big amber eyes with small, downturned lips that tend to give him a sad or tired resting face. Standing at only 4 feet 11 inches, Tedrick tends to dislike almost all comments about his height (he gets enough of it back home).

Because Tedrick was born and spent most of his life in California before moving to England with his mother, he has a Californian accent to his voice (not the Valley Girl accent). Tedrick is usually pretty quiet when he meets a new person, but once he warms up to you, he can be rather chatty.

When he's not wearing his school uniform, Tedrick can be found wearing his favorite olive green jacket, an assortment of sweaters, grey jeans, and his trusty black hightops.
