Dinah Dragensail | Second year |Gryffindor
Full name: Dinah Lovetica Dragensail (Her real surname is Watts but she changed it when she discovered she was a witch as she has a desire to appear impressive to others.)

House: Gryffindor

Age: 12 years old

Wand: 31'4cm chesnut wood and phoenix feather

School Year: Second Year

Patronus: N/A

Species: Human

Blood Status: Half Blood (although she is unsure of her parental origins due to being abandoned as a child. She tells everybody she’s a pure-blood as she read they were more respected in the wizarding community)

Appearance: Dinah has bobbed brown hair that she tries to tie back with a black jewel butterfly clip, but more often than not some of it ends up falling into her face. She is of just above average height for someone her age and is very slight in frame. While slim she is also rather scrawny due to lack of exercise. She has a somewhat pinched up face from a lifetime of bitterness and anger towards others. On her left hand she has a large scar roughly in the shape of an X from a prank that went wrong.

Personality: She is a quiet individual who enjoys her own company. After a difficult childhood she has trouble trusting anybody and can at times be rather selfish. Dinah has a tendency to say what she feels without filter, which can sometimes get her into trouble and causes issues when making friends. She also has a deep desire to appear impressive to others, meaning she has an issue with telling white lies. Dinah enjoys reading and is very interested in the dark arts as well as being an avid lover of animals.

 History:

Dinah’s mother was abandoned by her muggle boyfriend after they discovered she was pregnant. Young and alone she felt unable to handle the stresses of having a child and so once she had given birth in a women’s hospital in London, she left and never came back.
Dinah grew up in a mixture of foster homes and care homes, bouncing between the two like a rubber ball. She struggled to stay in one place for very long due to the mysterious events that always seemed to happen around her.
At her first foster home, just after her sixth birthday, Dinah had somehow managed to end up on the wrong side of her new foster father. It turned out he was the violent type and had tried hitting her but somehow she had disappeared from where she had been cowering in the corner and found herself sitting atop the chimney, looking out over London. That had been enough to scare the man and woman looking after her silly and she was sent back to the care home quick smart.
For a long time after that she was stuck in the home – any potential families were warded off quickly both by her history and by the sour look that had come to rest permanently on her features. Nobody wanted a miserable child, especially not one with behavioural issues (which was what was written in her file). Things continued to become worse for Dinah at the home as she had decided to isolate herself entirely from the rest of the world. She spoke to no-one unless it was absolutely necessary and remained in her room save for meals and the bathroom. She read and read and read until she’d read almost every book she could get her hands on. But no matter how hard she tried to keep to herself, she somehow still managed to get into some kind of trouble.
After an argument with one of the other kids, Dinah had tried retreating to her room but somehow she had found herself stood at the top of the stairs and watching as the child in question swung from where he was now suspended from the large light fitting.
Her bags were packed and she was sent across the city to another home. This happened a total of five times, all caused by odd things happening to the other kids after a run in with Dinah. She had heard some of the carers talking – they said she was weird, cursed, terrifying.
This was fine with Dinah as she’d rather be feared than have them all pretend to like her.
On a stiflingly warm day in August Dinah had been minding her own business, cooped up in her room on the top floor with an animal care book in her lap. She wanted a pet badly but they weren’t allowed in the home. It would be wonderful, she thought, to have a lizard maybe or perhaps a snake to keep her company. Dinah had seen the other kids at school with their fluffy bunnies or yappy dogs and she was certain she wanted something different, she didn’t want to be like them.
As she flicked the page over lazily, there was a scraping sound and she looked over to see a thick letter being pushed under her door.
This was the first she learned of her magical heritage and the first she heard about Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It immediately made sense to her as for too long she’d felt out of place and ‘better’ than those around her.
Now as a student at Hogwarts, Dinah aims to become a top student and achieve her goals of becoming someone great in the Wizarding world.
