History

Pre-Hogwarts

Sebastian Leeds was born into a pure-blood wizard family native to Ireland. Growing up in the small town of Waterford, Sebastian was a quiet child, usually kept away from others, so as to hide his peculiar characteristics. His family were rich, occupying private lands with a manor, where much of Sebastian's time was spent. Education, social interaction, playtime and other childhood pastimes were conducted under strict tutors, each tasked with extracting the very best out of the boy.

From a young age Sebastian was burdened with a heavy weight of expectation, and his parents demanded nothing but the best. No excuses. Because of the stress and strain on such a young mind, Sebastian became very withdrawn and developed a dark disposition, which resulted in his being very standoffish and brutally honest. Niceties were a waste of time, and Sebastian was a product of a family dedicated to proving they were superior, no matter the cost.

For as long as Sebastian could remember, his father had been Head of the Auror Branch for the Ministry of Magic, and this resulted in Sebastian developing challenging goals for his future - namely, he wanted to become an Auror. Being charged with hunting down Dark Wizards, and investigating magical mishaps, Kenneth Leeds proved a very capable Auror who began growing a fierce reputation. Yet, there remained a potentially damaging secret his wife kept from him, due to the sinister connotations usually attached to such an ability - Margaret was a Parselmouth.

The implications of possessing such an ability held a stigma, especially if it could effect the reputation of the Head Auror, and were it not for the fact Sebastian inherited the power, Margaret would have taken the secret to her grave. Yet, she discovered that her son was also able to communicate with serpents, when she heard a hissing from one of the manor hedge mazes; and upon investigation saw Sebastian speaking with an Adder... and in a panic, Margaret killed the snake using her wand, before taking Sebastian to private quarters and warning him of what he was, and how he needed to hide it.

This revelation also told of Margaret's family being descendants of Salazar Slytherin, which had been a closely guarded secret for the Byrne family. Kenneth and the Leeds had no idea, and remained oblivious to the power married into the line, which was more easily hidden due to the lack of serpents in and around Ireland. Nonetheless, Sebastian was canny enough to understand the need to keep the secret, and agreed to do so to his mother.

Closer to the time for attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Leeds family awaited the arrival of the delivery owl, knowing their son would be nothing less than a stellar example of the reputable Leeds name. And when the day came, on Sebastian's eleventh birthday, the child was told one thing before leaving to attend the wizardry school - do not embarrass the Leeds family name, or else...

• RELATION | KENNETH LEEDS | There is no love lost between these two, as Kenneth is an elitist wizard wholly consumed by the need to retain power and status for the Leeds family within the wizarding community. As a result, Kenneth pushed unrealistic expectations and stress on his son and heir, effectively hijacking Sebastian's childhood and filling it with endless lessons and tutelage.

• RELATION | MARGARET LEEDS | While Sebastian's relationship with his mother is kinder, there is still a distance between the two, as Margaret was complicit in allowing Kenneth to control their son's life so heavily. And unlike most mothers who are generally nurturing, Sebastian was always treated with an aloof manner by his mother, in her attempts to propel his sense of 'independence and self-reliance'.

• ACQUAINTANCE | EDRIC BANES | It's too early for Sebastian to say, but Edric seems polite and reserved, perhaps even timid. He has strong ties to his family, especially his brothers, who are both assigned to Gryffindor.
• ACQUAINTANCE | DALE RIVALA | Dale seems quiet, polite and interested in investigating. With time, a more accurate opinion might be made, but so far Sebastian appreciates the other student's (seemingly) subdued manner.
• ACQUAINTANCE | CASSIE STONE | So far Cassie seems childish and prone to temper tantrums when she doesn't get her way. Sebastian has only had limited contact shortly after the Sorting Ceremony, but that interaction wasn't good. • ACQUAINTANCE | SERENA TOWERS | Sebastian met Serena shortly after Anatole in the library, and immediately felt she was curious and somewhat protective - whether by nature or due to being a Prefect, he was unsure. She seems interesting, and is rumored to be popular, so Sebastian still needs to decide his standing with Serena.

Gryffindor:

• ACQUAINTANCE | ANATOLE EVANS | Sebastian quite literally ran into Anatole in the library, causing the other boy to scream - and bring to question how courageous Gryffindor are supposed to be. For now, Sebastian has reservations about whether there's any reason to pursue friendship.
