Medea is a short and quite thin girl. She had a very pale skin that gives her a certain sensibility to the sun, so much so that she never tans, she just get red and then pale again. She has light freckles on her cheeks, nose and shoulders. She had bright and piercing light blue eyes, that people would describe as icy, and long a slightly wavy hair that is naturally of light red colour, as if fire danced on her head. Medea hates to cut her hair, so they arrive almost at her waist. Her mother manages to convince her to cut them once per year, but not without difficulties.


Medea can be described as an intense and curious young girl. She has lots of energy and she likes to spend a lot of time outside, especially to help her father grow his herbs. She shares her mother’s passion for books and if she’s inside, she usually is in the library of the manor, as reading is the only activity that really calms her.
She’s an introvert at heart, but this doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have people skills. She talks a lot, especially if she knows the person she is talking with, and the more you know her, the more intense she gets, especially when she talks about her passions.
That being said, she definitely craves solitude from time to time, as being around people drains her energy.


Inverness is a beautiful city in the north of Scotland, on the sea, cut in half by the River Ness. As the city is quite ancient, it had an old magical community who lives inside it. Even if they do not have a whole magical part of the city comparable to Diagon Alley, they do have their shops and places, hidden from the muggle eyes.
The Darkwaters are one of the oldest wizard families that live in Inverness. A small manor, known as the Darkwaters Manor, exists outside the city, near the rocky cliffs that goes into the sea. A very big green area surrounds the manor. There are woods and plenty of tall-grass fields around. A steep stair built in the rocks goes down from the cliff to a very small beach, there usually a little boat is tied. Medea has very fond memories of her boat trips with her grandfather and her cousins.

As the manor is quite spacious, several Darkwaters live there: her maternal grandmother, Demetra, and her maternal grandfather, Orestes, are the matriarch and patriarch of the family. Together with them live the family of two of their three daughters: the first child, Ariadne, and the middle child, Morgane, Medea’s mother.

Morgane Darkwaters, Medea’s mother, is a magical historian. Her father had always been obsessed with their past, the story of their family, and this passed onto her. The Darkwaters are an ancient family, and they have been almost all Ravenclaw. So much so that Orestes was convinced that they were the descendants of Rowena Ravenclaw herself. Of course, there are no proofs of this whatsoever, they are simply old family histories. But Morgane’s lifework aims to uncover the truth about their family once and for all.
Morgane married Alexander, her best friend from her Hogwarts years. Alexander was a Slytherin, and for this simple reason was not really highly considered by Morgane’s parents. Moreover, he was an orphan, without a family history at all. But when they married, Alexander took the unusual decision to give up his surname, which didn’t mean anything to him as it was made up and becoming a Darkwaters. This decision rehabilitated him entirely to his wive’s parents.
Alexander is a herbologist and owns a little shop of herbs and ingredients in the city. He grows the herbs himself, in the fields and greenhouse of the manor.
After a couple of years of marriage, the couple had their first child, Medea, and after three more years their second and last daughter, Cassandra.


Medea has great memories of the 11 years she spent in her hometown before the letter from Hogwarts arrived. Even if she doesn’t really realize it, she had a very sheltered life, with a very loving family. In the Manor, surrounded by her family, Medea spent her years learning many skills. As many young wizard and witches, she was homeschooled together with the other magical children of the city, by her grandparents and the other grandparents around. Very curious, she had always loved to read and learnt how to read and write quite early. Her mother passed onto her the passion for history and books, while her father taught her about herbs and potions, and about the beauty of nature.
As soon as her letter from Hogwarts was delivered, she noticed right away that expectations were passed onto her. Her grandparents were worried that her father could have “tainted” her, making her not the perfect Ravenclaw she was grown to be. While she had always loved the stories about the Ravenclaw common room, she spent the last month before the first year feeling quite tense and afraid to face the moment of truth, the Sorting Hat. What if she wasn’t a Ravenclaw? Would her family still love her? In her child mind, the answer was not obvious at all, even if until that moment, she had received only love from her family. Of course, her fear was unmotivated, but she didn’t know that yet.


No one in her family was really sure about what was Medea's first instance with magic. Ever since she was four or five, curious things would happen around her, and it all seemed to involve the weather in some sort. But it was hard to decide whether it was her, or it was simply luck and coincidence.
But finally one day, something happened that was so clear that her parents couldn't have any doubt about it.
Medea used to have a little bird as a pet when she was six. She had rescued it when it was a baby and used to play with it in the garden. But one day, the dog of a neighbour got to the bird and... tried to eat it. As Medea saw her little feathery friend get bitten by that large dog, something in her mind snapped, and she started to scream. Alarmed, her parents run outside, only to see a storm being born exactly on top of their firstborn. The rain came running down heavily as Medea screamed and sobbed. Finally, as her mother reached her and hugged her tight, the child calmed down, and the rain stop.
Medea had no idea it was her who caused the rain, but her parents looked at each other. It was official, they had born a wonderful little witch.
