Norina Evans was a vibrant, passionate, and curious eleven-year-old that loved her family more than anything, including her two younger siblings that were constantly getting on her nerves. While she unknowingly discovered her powers that made her so different from her muggle parents, the resemblance to them is still uncanny. Taking after her mother, Norina had brown curls that ended at her waist and welcoming blue eyes. She took after her father though when the freckles first started to appear a few years ago.

Norina’s life at home had been nothing short of what others might believe to be a happy family. Her mother had stayed home all her life to look after Norina and her two younger brothers while their father worked for the local farmer in town. She was born in Aldham, England in a very small village of fewer than 200 people, and was reminded of this fact almost every day with everyone knowing everyone else’s business, which had created quite a difficult task for her parents to explain the recent events involving Norina.

She loved her simple, mundane life that never changed. She attended school with her friends that she had known since they were in cribs together, and she appreciated the simplicity of their friendship and getting to spend time with her father at the farm. However, she did feel like there was a part of her that was missing and she wasn't where she was meant to be. She always felt that there was something more to her life that she was meant to be doing, but she never thought it would be magic that was missing.

A year before her eleventh birthday, Norina was visiting the summer fair in the center of their small community with her family. While they were visiting with their friends and neighbors, Norina noticed a few piglets that were roaming behind a fence and gate next to the local farmer. “Pigs for sale! They would make an excellent breakfast in a few more months,” she heard him yell to those passing by. Upon closer inspection, Norina realized just how young they were, and how sad they looked.

She felt like there was nothing she could do, but she desperately wished there was a way to open the gate and set them free. As she turned her back to walk away and rejoin her family that was speaking to the farmer, her father’s boss, she heard the farmer let out a panicked yell. Turning around, she realized that the gate had been opened! Her father immediately ran to her to scold her for letting the piglets free, until realizing that the clasp was far too high for her to be able to reach on her own.

From this moment forward, her parents suddenly kept her indoors. While it was a minor incident, the entire village saw that she was the only one near the gate but they couldn’t explain how it had opened which only resulted in more questions. Other children started to ask questions, adults found themselves wondering what seemed different about her, and then some very strange people came knocking on her door.
