BIO Gertrude Hodge [ though, if she ever heard someone actually call her Gertrude, would throw a punch ] was born on a gorgeous spring morning in Inverness. Penelope & Vincent Hodge welcomed their only daughter with open arms; they had always longed for a girl after their first three sons, Lachlan, Fraser and William. Though, she wasn't the last child to grace the Hodge family. Three years after her, the youngest Hodge twins were born, Phoebe & Alfie. Both Penelope and Vincent travelled a lot for work, often leaving Penelope's parents and often her great great grandmother to take care of the children. Her great great grandmother, whom she was named after, was a strange wee German born witch who moved to Scotland after school and instilled a lot of her eccentricities into Gert. Their parents didn't have the happiest of marriages. Vincent had trouble forming a relationship with Penelope's parents, as did Penelope with his. And, being away so often put an even larger strain on their relationship, forming wedge that would last for many years up until their separation. Gert was six when it happened, and couldn't truly understand it all at the time. She was just glad to have the bickering and outbursts stop. The Divorce left all the Hodge children feeling split down the middle. The eldest hodge, Lachlan, thought he knew best about the whole situation and tried to be a know-it-all about it just because he was olderr. Fraser would always try his best to defuse the situations and keep the peace between everyone, as he had always done. And two youngest, had no idea of what was going on. William and Gertrude, however, were stuck in the middle of that . In the end, all the children were split down the middle. Lachlan chose to live with their father, taking William and Phoebe with them. The rest of the children lived with their mother in Aberdeenshire, close to where their grandparents lived in Banchory. Up in Peterculter is where her first magical incident happened. It was late in Spring and Gert had been playing with Alfie in a local stream not far from where they lived. They would often spend time up there catching newts. The two were minding their own business when a friend of Gert's stumbled upon them. Alfie had placed one in a jar of water to have a closer look but found that it had been soon snatched the older boy. The glass containing the creature soon cracked of its own accord, shattering and releasing the reptile back into its habitat.
