Kiara Astrid is a half-blood/breed girl. Her magic comes from his father’s side, the Astrids, who have almost all been Slytherin. Her mother, Zaria Keeluvna, is a dhampir with three fourths of vampire blood since she was the daughter of a vampire and another 1/2 dhampir, but she never wanted anything to do with the killing of humans. She thought that humans ought to live in harmony with their race. Zaria's dream was to clear the human prejudice of vampires in their society and let the two races live together in harmony.

Zaria met Valik Astrid, a pure-blood and former Auror, when Zaria's grandfather, a "traditional" vampire, was trying to kill a young muggle girl. Zaria was trying to stop her grandfather, while Valik came to the scene and missed with a jinx that hit Zaria instead of her grandfather. Zaria's grandfather left without a backward glance, leaving the girl for dead. That was when Valik, with a surge of repent, brought Zaria home secretly and nursed her back to health. Soon, they fell in love and married secretly, which was unknown to both parents until the baby girl Kiara was born. Other than the fact that the two family branches were opposed to the marriage, everything seemed so bright for Zaria and Valik.

That is, until Zaria's death. (This is the reason I never mentioned Kiara's mother in her encyclopedia and bio.) The family was sleeping at night when the house was suddenly set on fire. Kiara and her father escaped without harm, but Kiara's mother was killed in the flames that burned her pale skin faster than it could kill regular humans. In anger and immense grief, Valik took the now three-year-old Kiara away and lived far from the main Astrid house. They very rarely go back, but they did on some occasions, such as the time they visited the Astrid Household at Christmas when Kiara was seven, which led to her first outburst of magic when her cousin was humiliating her mother and taunting her.

After what happened, it is no wonder that Kiara has a forlorn personality due to the isolation that having a mixed parentage resulted in, especially in a pure-blood family. That is why all her relatives shun her, thinking she should not become part of the magic community for she might dampen the good and pure reputation of the Astrid family. Therefore, Kiara grew up in a constant state of isolation and unwantedness. She thus learned the ability to project an emotion perfectly on her face but feel the exact opposite way in order for her to survive in this cruel world. So although she seems melancholy and lonely all the time, she might be plotting revenge in her heart and actually smirking under the façade of innocence. She is dark, forlorn, mysterious, and most people don’t like talking to her, and don’t if it’s not necessary. However, Kiara can tear off her façade and show her real side to you if you really get to know her ----- she has always longed for a friend whom she could reveal her true feelings to. It has always been the wish on her birthday ---- most of which she spent alone ---- until her eleventh birthday, in which an owl brought the letter to Hogwarts. Her heart has been secretly lit with a hopeful light after this.
