Ivar came to life on a dark and stormy night, between the thunderous bangs of Thor beating his hammer in the sky. He was born into a magical community centered around a number of farms in an area known as Jæren in Norway. They followed a shamanistic form of norse beliefs and owned very little from this side of the century, choosing to rather stick to old methods of hunter/gathering and homeschooling from a young age.The communities main source of income comes from their cultivating and distribution of several types of wand wood to selected wandmakers from several countries.
Ivars early childhood was rather uneventful and he mostly spent his day playing with the few other children that came from the same community, until he was strong enough to help work on the farm. After growing big enough he had to start helping with the community's animals and do other trivial but necessary tasks for their day to day life to work.
At the same time he also had to learn everything from reading and writing to math from the community's “wise man” or teacher. They also got extensive knowledge about the community's beliefs and religion.

When Ivar was 8 years old his family moved to britain, where they relocated to a celtic wizarding community to help cultivating a rare form of wand wood. Ivar had trouble relocating and his first interaction with magic of his making was him lashing out at one of the other kids.

Ivar became a student at Hogwarts due to living in Britain at the time, and he was put in the Hufflepuff house. He was outexamed before the events of Harry Potter happened.

He had already learned a lot of runes from his religious studies at home, so with only a tad bit of hard work he soon excelled in Runes. He also seemed to function well with Care of Magical Creatures as he was used to taking care of both magical and non-magical animals back in his community. Another course he did well in was Herbology, where he could grow almost anything, even way beyond his year. One thing he found himself exceptionally average in however, was the use of spells, both with charms and transfiguration, nothing but average. Still, he believed in the survival of the fittest, the strong eat the weak, and in a school like Hogwarts, Ivar needed to learn everything he could to stand on his own two legs.

When he finished school, Ivar went back to the community he grew up in on Jæren and worked on raising the creatures the community tended to.

One day in his mid twenties, Ivar traveled to the Norwegian Ministry of Magic to register a new litter the community was raising. Here he came into contact with a very enthusiastic tamer which turned out to be the head-tamer for the Norwegian Beast Division. The man took an interest in Ivars extensive knowledge of taming and raising of magical creatures, and gave him an apprenticeship under himself.

Ivar took the man up on the offer and started working on the control of a Norwegian Ridgeback population. Ivar is to this date the only person in the Norwegian ministries history that has completed a tamer apprenticeship in under three years.

Now in his late twenties, Ivar got to work with some of the rarest and most controlled beasts in the known wizard world. Traveling far and wide with the Norwegian beast department on their missions.

He worked in the ministry for several years with only good things being said about him. It was a shock to all when he after many years of working there was accused of stealing and selling a batch of dragon eggs on the black market. Ivar was tried and found innocent on the grounds of “lack of evidence”, with no other suspects he was still deemed as “highly likely to have committed the crime”. With the case thrown out Ivar himself is the only person to know if he truly is innocent or not, well, and perhaps the person that actually did it, if Ivar is innocent.

At the age of 37 Ivar was now shunned by the academic community of tamers in Norway and he was jobbles. He had used most of his time on his job and on gathering more knowledge on the subject of creatures and had therefor had no time or interest in finding a wife or having children.

Ivar then decided that the most natural thing to do was to go on a spiritual journey. He spent the next one and a half years traveling Norway on foot. He witnessed many phenomenons that only strengthened his religious beliefs. He witnessed huge mountain-Trolls the size of giants in Jotunheimen, He saw a Selma in Sognefjord. He met a veela in Troms and also saw several lesser known creatures that are mostly native to the scandinavian countries.

It was on his way back into civilization that he decided to stay at a wizard inn. There he read the paper that had just arrived that day, it was one of britain's most famous wizarding papers, the Daily Prophet, and in it was an advertisement for a open position as Care of Magical Creatures Professor at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, was it luck perhaps that made it so the paper found its way there on the same day that Ivar happened to stay there, or was it the will of some god? Either way, Ivar, feeling he had gotten his fill of Norway, decided to apply for the position.

His Appearance

Ivar is tall and rather lanky built, but he is strong in a sinewy kind of way. He cares little for what he looks like, and can therefore often be seen walking in very worn and often muddy or dusty clothes. His hair is unkempt and is starting to thin out in his ever older age. He often paints parts of his face with different kinds of herbal salves he makes himself. This is a ritualistic way of enhancing one's senses, whether it actually works or not is uncertain, but Ivar believes it does, so he keeps doing it.

Ivar is heavily tattooed with nordic runes and signs, all to ward off different kinds of evil magic and bad luck, and also to enhance his luck and abilities. It is with this too uncertain if it actually enhances anything, or if it’s just religious nonsense.

He usually always has with him a thick work knife that functions from everything to dig up plants from the dirt to cut off a piece of bread for a quick lunch.
He also usually wears carved wooden talismans, most of which are carved from wand wood.

His Religion

Ivars' upbringing is heavily influenced by his religion. While it shares lots of similarities with its muggle counterpart the Nordic viking religion, Ivars religion also relies heavily on the premises that magic actually exists.

The gods in norse beliefs are to Ivar not gods at all, but remarkably strong magicians that were given the title of god by ignorant muggles of the time. Ivars god is magic itself, an unstoppable force, a part of nature itself. He believes it flows through everything that grows and exists on the planet and that we as wizards get stronger by staying closer to the pure force.

He also thinks we can harness the power better by wearing and using signs and runes that “connects” us to the magical force easier. This is also why all the norse “gods” have distinct connections to nature’s own forces. Thor was a magician that harnessed the power of thunder and storms, Ski the forces of winter, Njord the fierceness of the sea, and so on and so on.

There are less of a distinction of dark and good magic in this religion, and Ivar is adept at both. Many of the rituals he thinks are natural to perform at certain holidays and special occasions could mark him as a dark wizard if done in front of the wrong crowd.
