Lucy O'Sullivan, Second Year, Hufflepuff

Lucy lived close to the edge of Galway county near Headford, Ireland, before receiving her letter to Hogwarts. Her small home housed a loving muggle mother and an adept wizard father. Though she has seen her father use magic, her parents firmly believed that no magic should be attempted before official schooling. Her house was a modest dwelling that afforded Lucy all of the comforts of a normal, loving middle-class family. Her house is a neat conglomerate of wizard and muggle paraphernalia, despite the fact that she has not attempted magic herself.
Image
Lucy's parents' house

Thus, Lucy has little practice with performing magic. Her father believes in accomplishing most tasks "the muggle way" to build character. Also, her mother seems to be more patient and appreciative when she sees her father working at menial tasks, like landscaping.

Lucy first learned of Hogwarts when she was three-years-old, but it took until age five for her to really believe it existed. After all, if Goldilocks and The Green Man were just fables, why should a fantastical place where children learned about magic be any different? Of course, she did not know that her great aunt Aideen's moving portrait was magic, nor the wizard cracker that her family pulled on holidays that often produced live rodents or items much too large to fit in the explosive, tiny package.

As Lucy grew, she became more and more fascinated with the wizarding world. She and her family lived a perfectly average life - to her, anyway - so she longed for something truly exciting to happen. She never worried about whether or not she would be accepted into Hogwarts. However, Lucy had relatively few instances of magical potential; the only one Lucy knew of that was for sure magical was when she had made a stuffed bunny give her a hug at the age of nine because she was lonely. Despite this, her family made it seem rather natural that she would be going to the most prestigious wizarding school in Europe once she came of age, so Lucy also believed it would be so. And so it goes that on her eleventh birthday a small grey owl dropped a letter through the mail slot. Lucy was officially headed to Hogwarts.

Lucy, Age 5

Lucy is eager to learn, but she is just as eager to make friends with other children her age. Lucy had no siblings growing up, and living on the outskirts of a populated city did not allow for many close friendships. While she is friendly, she often does not understand those that are shy or want to be left alone. She can also easily miss social cues if she is distracted. She isn't necessarily gifted in magic, but she is willing to work extremely hard. She attended a normal muggle school growing up, so socialisation and schoolwork are natural to her. Though she won't admit it, she is still rather young in a lot of ways. She likes to play pretend and go on grand, made-up adventures. She doesn't like to defy authority or get in trouble; it opposes her people-pleasing nature. However, she will do anything if enough peer pressure is involved. She loves crowds of people, especially if she is near the centre of attention. This likely comes from having the undivided attention of loving and supportive parents.

Update (4/24/2018): Lucy has set her sights on being head girl, and she is now applying herself even more diligently to doing her homework and pleasing authority figures. This newfound goal has also diminished some of her friendliness and sparked a bit of a competitive spirit. As she ages into puberty, she is starting to wrestle with spikes of jealousy and mood swings, especially when it involves her own success or failure.

YEAR ONE
Reducio
• Feel the Rush Way Up Here - Lucy is determined to get better at flying since she has had little practice. She runs into a Gryffindor girl on what she thought was the deserted Quidditch pitch.
• An Unlikely Trio - Lucy, Elizabeth, and Amadea work together to attempt to brew the Antidote to Common Poisons. Time will tell whether or not it will be successful.
• Lost in Shadows - On a dark and dreary day, Lucy encounters a Slytherin girl on the shore of the Great Lake. Neither are in a great mood.
• Flags and the Forest - A fun game of capture the flag at summer camp! Lucy wanted to join, but sign-ups were full. Instead, she offered to help Annabelle moderate the game.
• Alpheus Arrives - A new professor is in town. He definitely makes an entrance.
YEAR TWO
• Growing Pains - Just an average stop in the day while shopping for school. Lucy is getting fitted for her second-year robes and runs into some fellow students.

• Lock-in - Lucy joins the rest of her housemates and the Gryffindor house for some good old-fashioned lock-in fun. Nothing should go wrong when two conscientious professors are overseeing the event... right? [On going]

• Herbology Workshop - Professor Wright and Professor Valtome take students into the Forbidden Forest to gather plants during Summer Camp. [On going]
• Paracelsus vs. Bailey - No wait, Lucy - Lucy is called as a replacement into a duel. She wins by accident. [FINISHED]

• The Sorting Ceremony - Lucy's first forever-memory at Hogwarts.
• Settling Into the Girls' Dorms - Solo, one-post RP required to get sorted into a dormitory and introduce Lucy to her fellow female Hufflepuffs.
• Easter Egg Event - Lucy tries her luck at hunting for Easter Eggs. She chose to search the corridors rather than a room in hopes that most people would have passed the eggs by.
• The Hufflepuff Table - Hufflepuffs gather daily to break bread and chat about relevant topics.
• Pranking Catastrophe - A hard-to-read Gryffindor girl has plans for the idyllic area surrounding the Great Lake. Lucy and Sophie initially did not see eye to eye, but they left as friends.
• Settling In - Lucy and Charo are assigned to the same dorm room. They choose side-by-side beds, find out they are quite different, and become friends all the same.
• Massive Shoes - Ami accidentally shatters a trophy case when someone's sneeze startles her. Lucy tries to assist in cleaning up the aftermath. Lucy gains confidence in her spellwork, and she meets two very good acquaintances.
• Passing Time - Lucy and Vincent develop a friendship in an odd but adorable manner. They practice a basic spell, Lumos, but Lucy manages to screw things up. She discovers that she can get to know people more if she is willing to remain silent for long stretches of time. She leaves the grounds satisfied with her newfound friendship.
• Bonfire BlossomFest Event - Lucy briefly mingles with a few students, stuffs her face with marshmallows, and leaves.
• Small Thrills - Lucy meets Anatole for the first time. They explore a secret passage and - unfortunately - run into some trouble. Luckily Professor Valtome is near at hand.
• The Periculum Predicament - Lucy overhears someone practising magic and rushes in to observe and show off her own skills. She meets Syrah Steele and Robyn Hightower.
• Welcoming Bonfire - Anatole and Lucy's friendship grows as they lounge next to the firelight of the kick-off event for summer camp. This took place between their first and second year of school.
Compartment #27- Lucy attempts to make friends on the train ride to Hogwarts.
Extremely Young, Incredibly Fortunate - Lucy meets two Hufflepuff girls on a rather melancholy day. They get to know each other in the Common Room.

• Looking Around Hogwarts - in which a few first-year Hufflepuffs first meet in their cosy Common Room. The other characters stopped posting, so the posting order was interrupted and a bit weird.
• A Mysterious Book - No response from original thread creator.
• Too Much To Carry - Memphis takes a nasty spill and Lucy eagerly jumps in to assist him. This RP just fizzled out.
• An Unfortunate Accident - Lucy trips on her way out of class. Unfortunately, she involves another student that is none too eager to help. Our posts were not occurring in a timely manner. This will be moved back to current if Aurelia replies.

 • Conor O'Sullivan - father. Wizard. Muggle Relations employee and generally good-natured. Believes in "character building," "family time," and "grit."
 • Ava O'Sullivan - mother. Muggle. Payroll Administrator with a technologically based company in Headford and friend to everyone. Repeats things like, "Well done, Lucy-goose!" "I'm losing me bloomin' mind," and "Be a love, would you?"
 • Aideen Duffy - great aunt on her mother's side. Dead before Lucy was born, but ever watchful in the house. She likes to comment on Lucy's hair, especially when it is ragged.

Image
 • Sophie Murphy - Sophie is a spirited Gryffindor. When Lucy and Sophie initially met, they had an incredibly rocky start. They could have ended up as enemies, but they got over the awkwardness and found themselves as friends after a weird, failed pranking incident.
 • Anatole Evans - Anatole is a peppy and clutzy Gryffindor. He is quick to make friends, though he sometimes seems to war with himself over certain ideas. He and Lucy made a rather foolish decision to explore a secret passage. Since then, Lucy and Anatole have grown closer during summer camp, where they pinky-swore to be each other's "back up friend."
 • Charo García - fellow first-year Hufflepuff. She and Lucy became friends after Lucy experienced a rather unfortunate dousing with vinegar since she forgot the correct barrel to enter through to her common room. They got to know each other quite well when Charo and Lucy were allocated to the same dormitory.
 • Vincent Eastender - fellow first-year Hufflepuff. Lucy first met Vincent in the common room. She later ran into him on the lawn and convinced him to practice some spells with her. Despite the fact that those spells didn't quite go as planned, they forged a bond of friendship anyway through their easygoing interactions and... talking to her wand?! This is a memory Lucy will cherish with fondness.
 • Syrah Steele - Syrah was practising Periculum in a study room and Lucy bounded in, eager to share her own skill. They made conversation afterwards. While Syrah might not consider Lucy a friend, Lucy views Syrah in a very positive light. They also teamed up for the Herbology Workshop during summer camp.

Image

 • Thora Duffy - A Gryffindor that Lucy met when she was looking for a maze team for BlossomFest 2018.
 • Emily Lashkhia - A Hufflepuff that Lucy met when she was looking for a maze team for BlossomFest 2018.
 • Ami Procoppio - A shy Hufflepuff that Lucy encountered in the Trophy Room.
 • Amadea Campbell - A kind Hufflepuff that Lucy encountered in the Trophy Room.
 • Robyn Hightower - A first-year Hufflepuff that Lucy met in the study room. She didn't interact with Robyn as much, so Lucy does not feel as attached to her. She still views Robyn in a positive light, however.
 • Aurelia Bezuidenhout - Lucy tripped over her and shattered an inkwell after class. She doesn't know her by name, but they didn't part on very friendly terms, either.
 • Frost Cira - These two met officially/unofficially on the day that Professor Alph arrived at Hogwarts.
 • Paracelsus Adger Myth - A boy that Lucy chased after in the lock-in. He was eager to get started, and Lucy was eager to not be left behind. He seems adventurous.
 • Annabelle Wolfe - A Gryffindor prefect that was hosting Capture the Flag. Lucy offered to co-run it with her to help moderate the game.

Known spells and the source from which Lucy learned each one

YEAR ONE
Reducio
 • Incendio (Fire-Making Spell) - Herbology homework, lesson 1: shoots flame out of the tip of the wand. The wand movement looks like the shape of a candle flame or big Christmas light-bulb. Students used the spell to repel the Devil's Snare in the lesson.
 • Tarantallegra (Dancing Feet Spell) - Charms homework, lesson 1: forces another person's legs to dance uncontrollably. The wand movement looks like a boxy, backwards "n." Students wrote about this spell in the lesson.
 • Reparo (Mending Charm) - Charms homework, lesson 1: can repair broken things seamlessly, but it doesn't work on people. The wand movement looks like a triangular spiral. Students wrote about this spell in the lesson.
 • Wingardium Leviosa (Levitation Charm) - Charms homework, lesson 2: allows objects and small beings to levitate. The heavier the object is, the harder it is to cast successfully. It does not work on humans. The wand movement is like a sideways two turned counter-clockwise. Students practised the spell for the first time on feathers during class.
 • Lumos (Wand-Lighting Charm) - Charms homework, lesson 3: allows the witch or wizard casting the spell to light up their wand with a bright light. If they concentrate too hard on the spell when casting, the spell could over-charge and go into the red zone, which could damage or break their wand. The movement is a small loop-de-loop. Students practised this spell for the first time in a darkened room full of pillows.
 • Nox (Wand-Extinguishing Charm) - Charms homework, lesson 3: allows the witch or wizard who cast the Wand-Lighting Charm to extinguish the light on their wand by moving their wand like a tidal wave. Students practised this spell in conjunction with Lumos.
 • Alohomora (Unlocking Charm) - Charms homework, lesson 4: allows the caster to unlock any door that is not locked by magic or have been locked with Colloportus. To cast, the wand is moved in a backward "S" shape and it may produce a blue, yellow, or purple light or no light at all.
 • Colloportus (Locking Spell) - Charms homework, lesson 4: allows the caster to lock a door so that it cannot be opened by hand. To cast, the wand is moved in a boxy, uppercase "P" shape.
 • Pluvia Velo (Umbrella Charm) - Charms homework, lesson 5: when cast straight up, this charm produces an umbrella to shield the caster against inclement elements.
 • Periculum - Defence Against the Dark Arts homework, lesson 1: sends up  flare-like distress signal from wand into the air. The wand movement is simply pointing the wand straight up. Students practised the spell during the lesson.
 • Verdimillious - Defence Against the Dark Arts homework, lesson 1: shoots out green sparks/light orb. They do not go as high as Periciulum sparks, but it can illuminate an entire room for a short period of time. This can also be pointed at something and used in a duel to cause electrical damage. It can also reveal things hidden by dark magic? The wand movement is a forwards slash if used in a duel and pointe straight up to be used as a light source. The students used this or Periculum in lesson 1.
 • Mucus ad Nauseam (Curse of the Bogies) - Defence Against the Dark Arts homework, lesson 2: makes the recipient have a terrible cold/waterfall of snot. The wand movement looks like a fat raindrop. Students practised the spell during the lesson and learned the counterspell as well.
 • Flipendo (Knockback Jinx) - Defence Against the Dark Arts homework, lesson 3: causes the victim to fly backwards in a flash of blue light, accompanied by a loud bang. The wand movement is like a check mark with a squiggle on the end. Students practised this spell on cubes during the lesson.
 • Fumos (Smokescreen Spell) - Defence Against the Dark Arts homework, lesson 4: emits inky black smoke from the wand tip and briefly flashes yellow at the beginning of the spell. It is meant to throw off the aim of a witch or wizard in a duel, taking away the advantage of sight. The wand movement for this spell is a spiral that is traced one-and-a-half times clockwise. Students practised this spell during the lesson.
 • Steleus (The Sneezing Hex) - History of Magic forum: emits green rings from the wand tip. It does not do any harm on impact, but it causes the recipient to sneeze multiple times in a row for a short span of time. The wand movement for this spell is a flick downward. Students practised this spell on dummies and on themselves.
 • Bullarum Immortalem (Bubble-Producing Charm) - History of Magic forum: emits golden bubbles from the wand tip. They do not pop, and must be dismissed with either Flipendo (possible projectiles?) or a general countercharm. There is no special wand movement for this spell. The students practiced producing bubbles in class.
 • Oculus Reparo (Eyeglass Repair Charm) - History of Magic forum: causes broken glasses to be repaired. The wand movement is simply a simple tap on the object and a red flash will issue from the wand if performed correctly. The students broke and repaired glasses in class.

ARIES - MARCH 28 - HUFFLEPUFF

Hufflepuff Ariens have an extreme abundance of energy; however, the usual Hufflepuff tendency to work hard out of duty is modified by the Aries tendency to value play over work. Therefore, expect long periods of playfulness and seeming indolence punctuated by brief, manic bursts of industry. These Hufflepuffs may also be more ambitious and socially aggressive than average, making them clear leaders in their House. Their emotional warmth, open hearts, madcap sense of humour, and quirky independence will endear them to many people, but their naivete makes for easy exploitation by more ruthless sorts of people. (source)

NEUTRAL GOOD

Neutral good characters desired good without bias for or against order. They did good for goodness' sake, rather than being directed to by law or by whim. Such characters would obey the law or break it when they felt it would serve a greater good. They weren't bound strongly to any particular social system or order. Their need to help others and reduce suffering took precedence over all else. A healer who treated both sides of a fight and somebody who fed the starving in a war zone were both examples of neutral good characters. (source)
