Claudia Gears | First Year | Ravenclaw
    Image
    ☆ The Basics ☆
    Full Name: Claudia Vitoria Gears
    House: Ravenclaw
    Age: 11 years old
Wand: 29,4 cm walnut wood and unicorn hair
    Wand Arm: Left arm
    School Year: First Year
    Patronus: N/A
    Boggart: Betrayal
Amortentia: A pine tree, vinegar, and ink
    Polyjuice Potion: Raw chocolate
Mirror of Erised: A creepy library filled with books...
    Species: Human, witch
    Blood: Pure-blood
    ☆ Wand ☆
"Very flexible, very efficient for spending spells, ideal for perspective wizards who follow their instincts." -Garrick Ollivander

    Walnut wood:
    Reducio
"Highly intelligent witches and wizards ought to be offered a walnut wand for trial first, because in nine cases out of ten, the two will find in each other their ideal mate. Walnut wands are often found in the hands of magical innovators and inventors; this is a handsome wood possessed of unusual versatility and adaptability. A note of caution, however: while some woods are difficult to dominate, and may resist the performance of spells that are foreign to their natures, the walnut wand will, once subjugated, perform any task its owner desires, provided that the user is of sufficient brilliance. This makes for a truly lethal weapon in the hands of a witch or wizard of no conscience, for the wand and the wizard may feed from each other in a particularly unhealthy manner." -Garrick Ollivander

    Unicorn Hair:
    Reducio
"Unicorn hair generally produces the most consistent magic, and is least subject to fluctuations and blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are generally the most difficult to turn to the Dark Arts. They are the most faithful of all wands, and usually remain strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether he or she was an accomplished witch or wizard.

Minor disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make the most powerful wands (although the wand wood may compensate) and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled, meaning that the hair may ‘die’ and need replacing." -Garrick Ollivander
    ☆ Physical ☆
    Skin: Pale
    Hair: Thick, black, shoulder length
    Eye: Grey, cold, calculating
    Eye patch:
    Reducio
The origins of Claudia's eye patch started when as a childish prank she snuck into her parent's potion cabinet to switch the labels on some of her mom's potions. Her parents were potion makers - not spell users - and Claudia thought it would be funny if something blew up in her mom's face. Luckily for her, her parents were at work and had forgotten to lock the cabinet the last time they used it. While she was switching the labels, Claudia accidentally knocked over a very fragile, empty vial on a high shelf. Some of the glass shards ended up in her left eye as a result. Frantically, she cried for help, screaming that anyone, someone help her. However, no one else was there. Claudia's younger siblings weren't born yet and her parents couldn't find a magical babysitter in the area to look after her. Claudia was in too much pain to think about waiting for her parents (and even then she would have to wait for multiple hours) so she reached for the nearest healing potion. However, her vision was impaired and what she was reaching for didn't say health potion, but something else. She poured the supposed healing potion over her left eye but it turned out to be an acid-like potion instead! By the time her parents got home, it was too late; Claudia's eye had already been eaten away.

Height: a little shorter than average
    Weight: average for her height
    ☆ Personality ☆
    | Adventurous | awkward | bold | careful | cold | curious | deceitful | loyal | mysterious | quiet | rude | selfish | shy | silly | stubborn | thoughtful | unforgiving |

Claudia has always been distant towards others. She tends to ignore anything but the world inside of her book, and has never tried to make any friendships. In fact, she finds the very thought of friends tiring. Her argument: why would anyone want to have someone trailing them day after day, and having to lie to them whenever they ask a question saying that they “look great” and all that? Seriously, if you have to lie to someone all day long you shouldn’t be considered friends. Claudia says all that just to maintain her public appearance. However, if she had to speak the truth about why she wouldn’t want friends Claudia would actually say something different. She would actually say that she’s afraid of the betrayal that comes with friendships. Her worst fear is someone betraying her, and that when they break her heart she will be too broken to the point that even reading won’t take her mind off things. Claudia reads for both enjoyment and to escape the wicked world. If books were taken away from her, she would have to face the cruel smiles of people who want to use her. She feels paranoid that everyone around her wants to either hurt her or get close to her, and that’s what traps her into a conflicting battle about who to trust and who she will lose. To escape from her mind is what reading allows her; to take her stories away would also take her sanity.

    ☆ Pre-Hogwarts History ☆
    Before birth:
    Reducio
Mack Gears was a Ravenclaw and an inventive spirit that would tinker with potions to make them more effective. He would generally keep to himself, submerging himself in his studies but nothing else. Emmelynne Charter was a Hufflepuff girl of the curious sort who pondered about the world. As they both went to Hogwarts, they passed each other in the halls but never talked. That all changed when one day in potions class the students got to choose partners. Emmelynne admired Mack's curiosity about potions and also remembered that he always got an O or A on his potions homework, leading her to believe that they would be the perfect partners. When she gathered up her courage, she strode over to him and tapped his shoulder. When Mack looked up from his potions book, he immediately dismissed her and walked away. However, Emmelynne would not give up on becoming his partner or - eventually - his friend. She would ambush him in the library, surprise him in the halls, and would fly next to him in flying class. Mack eventually got so annoyed of her sudden obsession with him that he confronted her during lunch. After talking with her for a while, he came to the conclusion that she wasn't that bad and ended up becoming friends with her. As their friendship progressed, they started to stop seeing each other as part of the unstoppable "Mack and Cheese" duo, but as a love interest. As their love progressed, they finally got married and gave birth to their oldest daughter Claudia on August 23rd, 2008.

    Before first instance of magic:
    Reducio
Claudia Gears has lived with magic for as long as she can remember. With her old, grouchy house elf and books enchanted to return back to their places if left unused, magic has always been a piece of her life. In fact, her family used magic every day! Simple spells were used to heal minor cuts or scratches, potions were brewed frequently, and traces of charms could be seen scattered throughout the house. When one of her two younger twin brothers spilled coke on the floor, a quick potion or spell later the carpet would look pristine. The only thing that was annoying about having a house full of magic was when her brother’s muggle friends can over to play. It was a pain to erase all instances of magic from their household when magic was practically everywhere! Thankfully, since Claudia had no friends in the muggle world the friendly visits were considerably more scarce and their house could remain magical on most days.

As a precaution against any muggles witnessing their magic, Claudia and her two brothers could not go to regular school. Their parents were afraid of any muggle - no matter how old or young - discovering that the Gears family was not as they seemed. Partly because of muggles and partly because they wanted to witness their children's first instances of magic, Claudia's parents kept them out of school. Instead, the siblings were home schooled and they were taught about great magic users and what different potions or spells caused to happen.

    First instance of magic:
    Reducio
Before her first instance of magic, Claudia's parents were confident that their daughter would be a powerful witch. After all, the Gears family was pure-blood so there was no chance that their first born daughter could have no magic whatsoever. But as the years progressed with no traces of magic, her family grew worried. What would happen if the pure-blood Gears family suddenly had a daughter who was - of all things - a squib?! They would be shamed for generations by every single wizarding family there was on the earth.

Finally, when Claudia was nine years old and two years after the birth of the twins, something strange happened. Suddenly, the Gears household had not one, but two copies of Claudia's favorite muggle book. Her parents weren't sure if it was one of the twins or Claudia, but when they saw her holding the duplicate as if it was normal to suddenly have two of the same book they were sure it was her. Their suspicions were then further deepened when a few months later Claudia suddenly gained a freckle in the shape of a star. The freckle was gone the next day but her parents never doubted what they saw. Even though her magic came later than they expected, Claudia's parents were overjoyed that their only daughter had magic in her after all.

    Before leaving for Hogwarts:
    Reducio
After she discovered she had magic, Claudia became obsessed with it. She would check out every book that contained a wizard (all inaccurate, but they were muggle books so at least they had an excuse), and would try to cast spells (none of which worked). All in all, however, life generally continued as it always did: boring, drab, and with no magic usage allowed around muggles whatsoever. So when she got her Hogwarts letter she wasn't sad to leave her family, she was exited! A fun "vacation" away from her home in England and her annoying, loud siblings was exactly what she had wanted for years. Sure, it was terrible that she would have to leave her local library behind, but she had read almost all of the books in it anyway. In fact, maybe the only reason she was going to Hogwarts was the library of spells and books great feats. She figured other students would probably be more exited for new friendships (or to continue with their preexisting old ones), but Claudia just didn't care about all of that. One thing was for certain though, Claudia was guaranteed to have the time of her life at Hogwarts.

Claudia Gears | First Year | Ravenclaw
    Image
    ☆ Immediate Family ☆
    Mack Gears (father):
    Reducio
Mack Gears is Claudia's blood-related father. Both him and Claudia's mother, Emmelynne, are professional potion makers. He was sorted into Ravenclaw for his inventive spirit and curiosity, so Claudia clearly inherited both his curiosity as well as his house. Similarly, he used to be closed to everyone around him emerging himself in only his studies and nothing else. Emmelynne became the key that he needed to open up and now he is more friendly to others. However, he still dreads meeting or talking to strangers. Some things never change...

    Emmelynne Gears (mother):
    Reducio
Emmelynne Gears is Claudia's blood-related mother. Both her and Claudia's father, Mack Gears, are professional potion makers. She was sorted into Hufflepuff for her outgoing and friendly spirit toward strangers. Claudia seems to be the exact opposite, however Emmelynne passed down her thoughtfulness and silliness. Emmelynne also likes to speak her mind to others around her, which would be counted as another trait passed down if Claudia would ever speak to others.

    Dante Gears (brother):
    Reducio
Dante is Claudia’s younger brother and Antonio’s older twin. Mack and Emmelynne were planning on having another child, but they never thought they would have twins. Emmelynne considered putting up one of the twins for adoption, but when she proposed the idea to her husband he changed her mind. Dante is very curious and once drank a potion that made him sick. He’s likely to become another Ravenclaw unless his curiosity is tampered down.

    Antonio Gears (brother):
    Reducio
Antonio is Claudia’s younger brother and Dante’s younger twin. Antonio was the twin that Emmelynne planned to send into adoption, but Mack felt sympathy for him. Emmelynne wants him to follow in her footsteps, but he’s likely to be another Ravenclaw. He likes to play with toys that break apart, so he probably will become either an inventor or a wand maker.
    ☆ Other Family ☆
Harvie Gears (uncle - dad's side):
    Reducio
Harvie Gears is Claudia’s uncle from her dad’s side. Claudia doesn’t like him because he always smells like cigarettes and likes to collect his furs from hunting. He uses magic to bait and trap the animals and then uses a spell to kill them. She doesn’t like anyone who hurts animals, even if they have the best intentions about it. He’s a Gryffindor who is not afraid of even the predatory animals. Mack and his family are always worried that a lion will eat him due to his recklessness.

Joss Gears (uncle - dad's side):
    Reducio
Joss Gears is Claudia’s uncle from her dad’s side. She finds him the most reasonable compared to the rest of her family because he always has a book by his side. Like her dad, he is a Ravenclaw that likes inventing. Unlike her dad, Joss isn’t afraid mess up his inventions which why he is an inventor and Claudia’s dad isn’t.

Estelle Burrow (aunt - dad's side):
    Reducio
Estelle Burrow is Claudia’s aunt from her dad’s side. She’s very talkative and curious about the world. She’s a Ravenclaw instead of a Hufflepuff because she’s very rude but likes to learn about different countries. Claudia tends to try to avoid her because all she wants to talk about is her and her travels. While her stories are very interesting, Claudia gets annoyed at having to listen to her voice all the time. All in all, she’s a good person but she talks too much.

Dakota Gears (grandpa - dad's side):
    Reducio
Dakota Gears is Claudia’s grandpa from her dad’s side. He’s a Slytherin that turned nice during his time at Hogwarts. He was probably meant to be a Ravenclaw, but Claudia suspects that the sorting hat put him in Slytherin to experience his own arrogance. His intellect and his sense of survival kept him from creating enemies on the Slytherin side, but he did make a few people hate him from Gryffindor. Actually, he made a lot of people hate him from Gryffindor. He practically had a small army of people chasing after him!

Antoniette Gears (grandma - dad's side):
    Reducio
Antoniette Gears is Claudia’s grandma from her dad’s side. She’s a Ravenclaw that loves to read and learns spells and potions quickly. Antonio was named after her because she is a famous potion maker. Mack was so proud to have her as his mother that he decided that he would name one of his children after her. Emmelynne was set on the name Claudia and when she gave birth to twins Mack practically forced her to name one Antonio.

Theon Castillo (grandpa - mom's side):
    Reducio
Theon Castillo is Claudia’s grandpa from her mom’s side. He’s a Hufflepuff who became a counselor for muggles. He is shamed by Claudia’s dad’s side because he didn’t pursue a wizarding career but they try not to speak openly about it. Claudia respects the fact that he stood against the magic society and really likes his name. He’s probably one of the only people that Claudia acknowledges.

Maud Castillo (grandma - mom's side):
    Reducio
Maud Castillo is Claudia’s grandma from her mom’s side. She’s also a Hufflepuff because she’s open and outgoing. She’s accepting of the fact that Theon isn’t in the wizarding career. She likes to bake and whenever the Gears family visits she makes cookies and other sweets.

    ☆ Relationships ☆
    The Brave

[Negative Acquaintance] Anastasia Beckett- “Save my soul” Claudia had unfortunately walked into the study room at the same time the Gryffindor was there and, as a result, walked into a very fiery path.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Katrina Walker- “She seems nice... too nice...” Claudia met her while making tea animals for an errand; she gave some blueprints to Claudia.
    The Cunning

[Negative Acquaintance] Koko Riddle- “Thanks for taking pity on me (OOC)/ Can she even read?” Claudia met the part Veela in the library, and never quite seemed to pick up on her awkwardness. She may be blinded by her popular girl stereotype (pretty girls have friends) and still thinks Koko is going to send an army to kill her. For a good reason, actually. Claudia managed to anger the Slytherin and has royally screwed up their relationship.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Sapphire Riddle- “A fellow socially inept child” Claudia met this strange Slytherin in the library and immediately liked her. Though now she might’ve angered her as well by insulting Koko, Sapphire became a peacekeeper in a way.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Athena Hayes- “Obsessed with studying.”Claudia met her while making tea animals for an errand and appreciates the fact that she studied and brought books with her.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Meredith Ready- “Errr...hi?” Claudia met her at the lake. She knows she’s been rude to her but... she may not mind.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Flash Holmwood- “Lots and lots of books... and the words to go with them.” Claudia feels like he is trying to... well... take her brain or something? His carefully said words are something that Claudia notices, and she doesn’t really like that he always says what is best. He’s kind of like... a robot. What are his evil intentions?
    The Loyal

[Neutral Acquaintance] Lindsey Springhall- “A First Responder” What’s with Claudia’s spirit talk? Claudia met her in the corridor when she mistakenly made a wrong turn and became lost. This Hufflepuff is super helpful - albeit talkative - and is the go-to person if you’re lost or need help
[Neutral Acquaintance] Alina Rosier- “Missing kitten? I will unleash my wrath!” It seems like Claudia has been making a habit of meeting Hufflepuffs in the corridors. Claudia overheard her talking to a painting missing a kitten and thought she would help. Though it’s more like she thought she would help the kitten, not so much the person.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Autumn Ivy- “A vampiric... Hufflepuff?” Claudia met her in the abandoned toilets. Quite an awkward place to meet, isn’t it?
    The Wise

[Neutral Acquaintance] Mars T’ien- “No professional singer, but good nonetheless” Claudia listened to them play their guitar and liked their music.
[Neutral Acquaintance] Albert Peshkov- “Clouded in darkness - quite literally” Claudia met him in the astronomy tower but doesn’t know much about him besides his name (OOC: I find his name very easy to remember, and that’s pretty rare for me. Good job with the name!). Claudia likes that he isn’t afraid to ask his curiosities, and overall he seems like a potential candidate for a friend. Of course, Claudia isn’t willing to openly say that... but I am.
    Reducio
The Inactive (will restore if they come back)

[Neutral Acquaintance] Elspeth Gollens- “A creative problem solver” Claudia met Elspeth in the corridor when she was stranded by the thick crowd. She likes how Elspeth can come up with idea she on the fly and is a pretty well-developed character. She is aware that she’s isn’t perfect and can mess up and Claudia likes that.

Coding status: If you would like me to design your encyclopedia I'm currently closed!
RP status: I'm currently closed! So sorry.
    About me:
    Reducio
Similarly to Claudia I am a fellow Ravenclaw, nerd, and a huge reader! My favorite author is currently Marissa Meyer (Lunar Chronicles and Renegades series) but my favorite book/series right now is the Scythe series. I'm exited and proud that the Scythe series is being turned into a movie! I can't wait!

Although Claudia may not play an instrument, I play the viola. By the way, a viola is not a violin! Violins have an E, A, D, and G string while the viola plays the lower octave with an A, D, G, and C string. Basically, violas play lower than the violin and don't make your ears bleed. Fun facts about the viola are that: a viola can play a violin's E string, but a violin can't play a viola's C string and violas almost never have the melody. One instance of a famous song with a viola melody (normally the viola but also the cello) is "The Hanging Tree" from the Hunger Games Mockingjay.

Another thing that you may not know the difference of is that I am a black belt in Taekwondo. Not Karate. Taekwondo is actually better than Karate because it focuses on the art, strategy, and the lower body. Karate focuses on (weak) punches, but Taekwondo is about powerful kicks! You gain more stamina and problem-solving skills from Taekwondo than Karate, so I prefer it better! (It also looks more impressive). However, this is in my opinion, so you may not believe me but still, Taekwondo is better.

So that's about it! Feel free to owl me suggestions on what to add and check up on this encyclopedia often as new relationships, threads, and other information will be added in the future. I add new stuff frequently and whenever I meet someone new, join new thread, etc. I add to this! I hope you read over everything and I wish you to have a good day!

    Her Goals:

    -Become more open to others
-Be a better talker/ less awkward

    My Goals:
    Reducio
-Get Claudia a partner in crime/friend (Albert has potential??)
-Make Claudia discover a place where she’s more open (thinking after she discovers singing the ballroom)
-Introduce Claudia to singing (yes, it’s Cliché, but this would be perfect to help her open up a lot - plus I have depressing songs in mind)
-Rip off her eyepatch (still deciding on this one, probably very late in the school years if it doesn’t happen)
    ☆ Rp Rules ☆
    Swearing:
    Reducio
While I am ok with cussing to a certain extent, I would still prefer to tone down the cussing as much as possible. Only if you think your character would actually swear or if your character is in a life-or-death situation should you cuss. Additionally, please put either a revelio over the curse word (Example: hello) or use asterisks over at least one letter (Examples: h*llo; h****; h***o; etc) in the word. This is not really for me, as much as for any younger observers.

This awkward can become awkward for some people as with the many different sexualities there are now. However, I am pretty chill with this topic and don’t mind you talking about it. I know many people who are in the LGBTQ+ community, and while I am not a part of that community, I do support those people in their lives. Your character may have a crush on Claudia - even if they’re another girl - but please keep in mind that Claudia is straight/ asexual and may not return your feelings. So you may daydream or talk about a crush no matter what gender they are.

    Abuse:
    Reducio
I am aware that your character might have been abused at some time in their life, but as the rules suggest: please do not go into detail. While personally I would like to be able to hear your story and comfort you, younger viewers will be disturbed. Also, please take into consideration that any other viewers that may have an abusive background could have some emotional trauma from their own abusive experience. I don’t want to trigger any sort of trauma so please do not go into detail. You may talk about how your character was abused, but not in detail. (Example: maybe the dad was an alcoholic and hurt your character, but please don’t go any further than that).

    Depression:
    Reducio
Similarly to abuse, I am aware that your character may have suicidal thoughts or severe depression but please do not go into detail! Younger viewers will be disturbed. Suicidal thoughts will not be tolerated - to a certain extent (Example: If your character was thinking of jumping off the astronomy tower, that’s ok. Anything else more detailed shouldn’t be said. However, you can owl me what your character is thinking instead if you really want/need to). Regular depression isn’t a different story. As long as it isn’t mild to severe and isn’t in intricate detail, you’re fine!

If you have any additional questions to go over, please Owl me; if you are confused about something, also owl me! If you need a summary: basically I’m just chill with everything, but please read the rules anyway.

Confusion... personified; the awkwardness is real.
