History/Background Story:

Eldridge Alastair Seath, “Ed” in short, has blond hair that turns just a touch of red in the summer and dark green eyes. He is perfectly average for his age group, both in build as well as in height and weight. His skin is light and he doesn’t tan well, which is to say that he’ll be red as a lobster before he’s gained some decent color.

As the middle of three children and only son of his parents, he doesn’t have it easy: his older sister Adeline is well into her teenage years and terrorizes the family with beauty products, boyfriend talk and the latest fashion trends. All the while his younger sister Eudora skipped first grade and is already on the fast track of reaching her goal of becoming a professor for statistical mechanics. His parents are so busy with keeping track of their girls that sometimes Ed just, well, slips past their guard.

All things considered that’s not a bad thing, however, as it leaves him free to explore Cullen Bay with his band of friends. Their mischief as garnered them a reputation, even though Ed always affirms that they aren’t really doing anything nasty, just snatching a few apples, annoying a few dogs, scaring the mailman to death with fireworks. The usual.

Ed is a rascal, the magical and non-magical sides of the family agree on that. He’s a rascal with good grades, an interest in all things football and a love for any two-wheeler that goes faster than he can run. Some of the old ladies in the neighborhood think he’s endearing, the other half thinks he’s the devil’s spawn.

He’d be living the normal, if slightly pampered, life of any muggle boy, if his mother wasn’t a witch. She is however, and so is Ed. Adeline is normal, a muggle, though, just like their Dad, and whether or not Eudora doesn’t possess magic or simply doesn’t accept that she does the family still hasn’t figured out.

They have a dog, Bob, but he’s old and slow. There’s a Crusp mixed into his beagle, but the only thing magical about the old mutt is that he won’t stop barking if somebody casts magic in front of the house. This is how Ed’s first sign of magic was noticed.

Waking up one day in the middle of the night, Ed went to inspect a light tapping sound he could hear down the hall. With is being completely dark, the boy wandered blindly through his room until he found the door. There he was met with their long hallway with at the end of it a large window, lit under the moonlight. Creeping closer as silent as his feet would let him, Ed would curiously look if anything was out of the ordinary. As soon as he reached the window, a branch of the neighboring tree would smack itself against the glass. Jumping at the sound and crawling in terror backwards to the door, the lights in the hallway would flicker for just a moment and then be lit brighter than they should have. It was the dog who woke up first and reacted to the magically switching on of all the lights of the house, waking up all the members of the family in his anger.

Apart from his own magical powers, the only really interesting thing about their family, in Ed’s mind at least, is the crazy relatives.

His Dad, Eustace, comes from a posh family. Old money, his mates’ parents call it. Ed thinks that they all have long sticks up their asses, but he isn’t allowed to say that outside the house.

Eustace Seath went to a private boarding school, had a nanny and tutors and went to all those fancy rich people parties. He ended up studying at Oxford, but his family had the money and they at least expected him to pretend to go for a degree. Well, it didn’t work out as they had intended when their eldest son switched from economics to English literature and actually had a jolly fun time and graduated with honors. His parents never forgave him. Nor did they forgive him for, instead of going for a job in management or law and anything useful, he entered and later inherited his favorite professor’s family business: a shop for custom tailoring in the middle of nowhere.

Ed’s uncle Raymond – who actually went into politics to the satisfaction of his parents – looks down at his older brother still. It’s the same way that his cousin Jasper looks at Ed, like he’s dirt under his boots. Prick.

His Mom’s family isn’t any better, sadly.

Clarissa Boyle is the firstborn of a pure-blood family: raised to hold her head high and her nose higher, and not dare look down at the common people mingling in the streets. If his Dad is old money, than his Mom is ancient money. Where his Dad grew up in a big house with some servants and helpers, his Mom grew up in a manor with house-elves caring to her every wish and a set of parents too busy being social butterflies to care for how lonely their daughter was.

The Boyle’s still own some kind of trading company, but even Ed understands that some of that business is rather shady. The money keeps coming however, and his uncle Julius keep hoarding it, reminding Ed’s mother about what she missed out on every time they meet – not that Ed thinks his mother cares. She works for the DMLE, she’s pretty good ass kicking. He only wishes that he was allowed to kick his other cousin, August sometimes. In the shin would be enough, really.

Come to think of it, that must have been in part why his parents bonded so well: their pricks of brothers. Ed can certainly understand that, considering both his cousins inherited the asshole genes from their fathers.
