This is the Spectator thread for the Chess Combat Game Three (Year Three)
The area chosen for the Chess Combat matches was located in the fields in between the different schools’ encampments. It was certainly closest to the Hogwarts’ encampment but they had not had the proper space to set everything up in the encampment proper. They had gotten lucky with the weather, the sky was somewhat cloudy but the sun was out and while there was a slight breeze, the temperature was quite mild.

They had set up a (now-closed) sign-up booth to the side of the prepared combat area. A field of 5 by 5 squares marked in the grass by magical chalk made up said duelling arena. Surrounding the stage were a couple of benches for spectators and people waiting their turn. The benches were warded so that people sitting on them would be much more unlikely to be hit by stray spells. The benches had been organized in the same breath as the special permission for under-aged students to cast spells as part of this event.

Just like after the first game, there was a break after the second to take care of any injuries the participants might have acquired and to clean up the Chess Combat arena a little, if necessary. Once that was done, and everything was ready for the third match, including the now-spectators taking a seat on the benches again, Zahid called the last two teams forward.

Under a dull grey summer sky, Elspeth found her way out to the chess combat field, glad that the one game she cared about was one later in the day. This allowed her to sleep in, which of course was one of the benefits of summer.

Tending to keep to herself, Elspeth hadn't made too many friends at Hogwarts (which was something she was comfortable with). So, there was only one name on the chess team list she cared about. And that was Dymphna's. In fact, she was a little concerned for the older girl, unsure how much experience a pureblood would have with a muggle game like chess. But then this was likely to be an unusual match; once in the Great Hall she'd spied the chess pieces decapitating one another as two students played. She certainly hoped nothing like that happened to her friend--if only there was a way to volunteer in the Hospital Wing!

The five-by-five chess set was easy enough to spot. In fact, it stood out more than probably any other place on the stadium ground. Arriving in a simple pair of jeans and a floral top, she stepped up into the stands to find a seat. It wasn't very full as they were in the lull between the matches. So, Elspeth was able to find a nice central seat about half way up the stands.

Soon enough, the last two teams were called forward and Elspeth squinted to find Dymph. She waved in the Ravenclaw's direction. "Good luck, Dymph!" she called, unsure if the older girl would hear her. Elspeth's voice was not always the loudest, but she was there and that was what mattered. Clapping her hands together, she waited to see how all this would work--who would move first and just how intense this wizard's chess might become.

Milena had underestimated the distance between their tent and the Chess Combat area. She had returned from her walk a while ago and simply relaxed for a bit while snacking on some sunflower seeds – she liked the breaks where she did not have to represent their school to the other attending schools and so she had taken to eating some snacks for lunch and shedding some if not most of her Pure-Blood mask in the privacy of the tent whenever there wasn't an event to attend during that time instead. As nice of an opportunity this was to meet new people and, well, network it was also twice as important to stay on their best behaviour now that they were not only representing their families but also their institute.

In any case, she had underestimated the walk back to the event's area. As it was she had cut it a bit too close and while she did not have to outright hurry back, she did walk a bit more decisively and quicker than she normally would if she was just leisurely walking somewhere. She made it back in time to hear the Hogwarts' professor calling this match's teams up, only barely, but she managed to arrive in time to see everyone taking up their positions. In this match she recognised a few more faces [Forsberg, Mondelez & Preobrazhensky] even aside from Alisa.

She would take half-miss the first round of the game as she went to take a seat on a free spot on one of the benches to the north side of the altered chess board arena. By the time she properly turned back to the match, it seemed that Mondelez's shirt had caught fire. Quickly checking on Alisa, she was relieved to see that her friend seemed to be unharmed and had her wand ready. She sent an encouraging half-smile in her friend's direction even though Alisa wasn't currently looking in her direction and might miss it completely.

Without love, it cannot be seen. ~ うみねこのなく頃に
