Welcome BBQ
{ Open to all, including iNPCs }
Friday, 3rd July 2020
With the sun slowly starting to set over the surrounding fields and the stadium that loomed on the horizon, the multitude of encampments started settling down for the approaching evening. Soon a plethora of different fumes would fill the air wherever you would find yourself. People had begun to prepare their dinners, gathering in large groups to share their meals and laughter.
The witches and wizards of Hogwarts were no different. Down the centre of their encampments, a main area was created where most of them would gather during activities, social hours and meals. A barbecue had been set up along the side and down the centre a pile of logs had already been laid around for the fire that was scheduled later on.
Next to the barbecue, people would see a bundle of tables prepared with cutlery and plates as well as some worn down benches that seemed to have barely made the trip from the castle to the encampment. On the menu today was the option of having a burger or two, some salad as well as skewers. At the nearest table, there were a lot of different bowls displayed for students to go and grab their pick in various meats, vegetables, fruits, bread, and other essentials - such as halloumi. There were options for meat-lovers, vegetarians and vegans ... It was clear staff had taken a look in what they could offer for the wide arrange of people and races that would be present at this event. They were careful to take into consideration allergies that people might have and left a small place card to specify on the food table.
Students could place their own vegetables or meat onto the skewers, bringing them over to Caradoc, who would then cook it for them and return it. The burger patties would be cooked at the BBQ too, which would be plated once cooked. People could then take a cooked patty and create their own burgers with the buns and vegetables around or go gluten free and bunless. It was really up to them.
The barbecue itself was quite the sight on its own. With the aid of Groundskeeper Dunaid, him and Caradoc Browne had managed to set up a unique stand from a couple of barrels they rolled out of the kitchens. These would form the base for the furniture they’d need to make the barbecue, one unlike any other. A few barrels would be used as chairs and one barrel would be magically enlarged to house the grill itself. On each side of the giant barrel they’d mount metal plates. Where one could read: “Barrelcue”.
Professor Karr could be seen around a small drink stand, set up next to the vegetables. Cutting up the last of the vegetables and placing some final touches for the drinks. The students would be able to enjoy some refreshments enchanted to stay quite cool. Whilst Saskia Nicholson, the Hufflepuff Prefect, brought the last of the supplies, it would seem the area had finally been ready for the students to come and gather.
With strings of decorative lights hung all around the place and banners of all four houses represented on four sides of the main area, people would be able to take place anywhere from tables to picnic blankets to logs by the campfire.
OOC Guidelines for the thread:
- This thread is moderated by Saskia Nicholson, Kateri Karr, Gargott Dunaid and Caradoc Browne
- It is open to all [Hogwarts + iNPCs from Ilvermorny or Durmstrang]
- In Character, this takes place on the 3rd of July. Making it the first place to encounter the students of other schools.
- Barbecue: If your student is hungry, they are free to pick something that will be cooked on the barbecue by an adult. Drinks can be gathered on a seperate stand next to the vegetables.
- Lay-out: There is a large campfire set down the centre of the area. Around, there's an open space for blankets to be thrown out, a couple of tables set out and wooden logs surrounding the campfire.
- There is food of all sorts and for each one's needs.

Welcome BBQ
The promise of tasty food was an easy way to lure Santario out of her tent and to an event so significant that it included not only Hogwarts’ students, but also Durmstrang and Ilvermorny. The last large event that Santario had gone to, to take photos at did not turn out well considering giant mosps, as she had learned they were called later, showed up uninvited for the flowers. This event would hopefully be different, considering it was being run by Professors.Interacting| @Caradoc Browne

She hoped she had left early enough as her red converse made their way across the grounds towards the designated area. She wanted to get a few photos of the area before all of the other kids showed up. So it would be no surprise that her trusty camera bag lay gently rested on her left hip over her flowered sundress. As she got close, the familiar *click* of her camera would start getting some farther off shots of the whole set up before getting the individual areas of decoration.
Her first stop would be the food table, as that would undoubtedly be the first area to be vandalized. *Click* She would move on to the BBQ and giggle audibly at the pun on either side. That was perfect, and she would make sure to get a photo of the bbq set up with both Professor Brown and Groundskeeper Dunaid before moving on. *click* *click* would capture Professor Karr at the drink station and Saskia.
*click* *click* *click* *click* *click* Would capture the decorations and the campfire area, though the latter would get more photos when the fire was lit. As San finished her photography goals, the little clone of Isabelle de Clairmont, someone he used to work with, would approach Caradoc looking up at him with the eyes of her father. “Professor Browne, I am sorry to interrupt. I wanted to thank you for helping to put this together, and I was hoping I could get a photograph of you by the tree just there before it gets crowded. If you don’t mind that is?”

Wiping his brow with his arm, Caradoc looked around to check if everything seemed alright so far. From what he could tell, Saskia had just come in with the final supplies. Perhaps some extra lights in the back might be needed depending on how dark it would get, but he figured most people would hang around the fire by night anyway. Kateri would likely make sure the drinks were kept cold and it seemed she was more than on top of her work by the other tables. His eyes slid over to Gargott's rotund figure who was sweating like an animal. Quirking an eyebrow at his old friend. It was clear people grew out to be... different, over time. "You alright there, *sham?" [*Friend/dude] The man called out to check on the other, before grinning widely.Interacting| @Santario Martin

He pulled a bit on his white t-shirt to allow some air to flow through when he noticed one student had arrived early, it seemed. With a camera in hand, she quickly started taking pictures around the area. Smiling softly, Caradoc seemed to recognise something about her. A recognition that gave him a hint to a name. "Miss Martin, I assume?" His eyes narrowed slightly, knowing that if he were right there was a certain subject he might wish to avoid with her. He nodded his head to the girl. "Sure thing, lassie. Just tell me where to stand." He wasn't particularly used to getting his picture taken. But he decided to play along with most things coming his way over summer. It might make his life a lot easier.
Walking over to the tree she pointed out, the Head of Hufflepuff crossed his arms a bit awkwardly and looked back at the camera. "Like this?"

Hjørdis exhaled audibly. Summer camp was officially on the way and the first event was starting today. She was hoping the whole thing went smoothly, and they could all just relax. However, with students around, that was never guaranteed. Observing herself in the mirror, she pressed her lips together and ran her hand through her hair. Today ought to be rather fun though. The barbecue was starting to become an annual tradition. Well, at least for her time here. For the second summer in a row, the camp started off with one and she was rather enjoying it.
She inspected her outfit, making sure it was perfect before putting the strap of her handbag on her shoulder, dropping the lipstick she had just applied into the bag itself. Her outfits for the camp were pretty much planned out already, in all honesty. She had a rough idea of what to wear each day, depending on the forecast and activity. Today's outfit had a bit of extra effort in it. Hjørdis picked a nice dress, deciding to start off the camp on a positive note. Her flat sandals made it easier to move in case the whole camp started with a disaster. Swallowing, she hoped not. She wanted it to go well. For once in the history of hogwarts, she just wanted things to go well... They all needed a break and this change would be good for them all.
Leaving her tent and following the smell of food, she quickly found herself at the barbecue, expecting to be later than most people. Blinking, she realised how wrong she was. It was not her intention to arrive early but... it appeared she had. She tucked a piece of her loose hair behind her ear, not entirely sure why she decided to keep it loose today. That was not normally a thing she did. In fact, she never really did it.
Glancing around the area, she noted how great the set up was. It brought a small smile to her face. It felt like being on a beach, on holiday. It was very creative and she had to mentally congratulate the team on it. She made her way closer. She found herself staring at a Caradoc standing by a tree with his arms crossed... Wh- Why was he... Hjørdis blinked, tilting her head at the sight. It took her a moment to spot the young Slytherin from the angle she was standing at, and almost sighed a breathe of relief. It instantly became clearer when she knew Miss Martin to be a photographer. Ah. She was glad to see Martin with her beloved camera, looking rather happy. The sight was pure bliss.
Leaving the pair to their photoshoot section, she passed by behind Martin and headed towards the others around. Smirking a little at the sight of his awkward pose, she brushed some stray hairs off her face and made her way over to the others. "Good afternoon, anything I can help with?" She offered to the nearest. It would not be very Hjørdis like if she did not offer to dive into work straight away.

Roleplaying as dNPC Iris Fields
It had been a long and hard year for Iris Fields. Before the exchange program earlier that year, she had been known by a dozen or two students. However, she had decided that she wanted to be known by far more than that. As she always aspired to be liked, it pushed her to fit in more. The third year had slowly climbed the social rungs and made it to the point that a lot of the students in Ilvermorney knew her. She somehow kept her happy demeanor, but now had a sarcastic side when pushed too far.
Even though she was often trailed by a couple people most of the time, she was alone today. However, it didn't keep her from having a slightly content smile on her face. She was wearing a white tank top and jean shorts with a loose floral shawl on top. Her hair was back in a fancy bun that her best friend taught her.
The whole place was set up pretty well. Iris took out a blanket from under her arm. She was glad that she had remembered to grab it before heading over. She set it down a little ways from the fire and leaned back on her arms, a casual smile on her face.
Her eyes scanned the crowds. There was a girl with a camera taking a picture of an older person, presumably a professor from Hogwarts. She still wasn't sure if she knew many of the students from Ilvermorney that decided to show up. However, her question was answered when she spotted a head of brown hair. "Hey, Theodore!" Iris waved at him. She wasn't super close to the boy, but she did recognize him from passing.

Howard had spent the waning hours of the day repeatedly peeking out of his tent, anxiously awaiting sun down. The summer months were the worst for the teenaged Dhampir. The long days and clear skies either meant to brave the heat in a heavy cloak or to slather himself in sunscreen, which was just as uncomfortable. Even the slightly scented brands were enough to offend his sensitive nose.Open to Interactions
The summer event was likely the last thing the angsty thirteen year old would have chosen to participate in, but the other option, going home, was quite simply terrifying. So here he was, fully immersed in a environment of laughter and good times. Surrounded by his peers who all seemed so excited for the chance to socialize and participate in various activities. He would have easily just chosen to stay in his tent or roam the grounds the entire time, but a grumble of his empty stomach left him no option but to seek food. Wearing a simple tee and trousers, Howard would depart in a search to fill his belly.
As he made his way towards the barbecue area, Howard couldn’t help but appreciate the work that had gone into the setting. As grumpy and antisocial as he may be, that didn’t stop him from admiring something that was well put together. His eyes would be drawn towards a table full of all different kinds of offerings, they would also notice that two Heads of House were amongst the crowd, one of which was accompanied by a girl taking photos.
“Damnit.” Howard whispered to himself. It would have been foolish of him to expect that such events would be unsupervised, but there stood both Professor Jensen as well as Professor Browne. A welcoming site to most, but he couldn’t help but remember a certain outburst at their last public announcement. The thought of being photographed wasn’t appealing either.
Fortunately, his moment of pause allowed for the others to become distracted. Professor Browne would walk a short distance away to pose for the young Photographer and Professor Jensen seemed eager to lend a hand. The moment was perfect for him to strike. No, his intentions were not to attack, but to sneak in unnoticed to the table of food.
Howard’s red eyes spied a platter of burger patties. With a quick lick of the lips, he would attempt to grab a plate and serve himself. Ground meat was often choice for the boy. So tender, a perfect balance between protein and fat. No need to cook it, since his transformation Howard had come to enjoy it raw, preferably room temperature.
If no one objected to his actions, he would make his way to one of the logs that laid near the yet to be lit fire. Holding his plate in his right hand, Howard would use the claws on his left to begin picking away at the meat.

Welcome BBQ
She exited her tent and headed to the barbeque place. It was different from the previous year, especially as the place was completely different. She was never alone (as without parents) anywhere except Hogwarts. And here they were in London with her parents nowhere around. Her prefect duties were no longer obligatory (as she had to have some fun as well), but it was already more like a habit. She kept watching the students while heading towards halloumi burgers, or just any food, to be honest. She was one of the first, as few students managed to leave their tents to have a decent evening meal.
Prof. Jensen was a striking beauty over there and it seemed a tradition already — meeting her, and Prof. Browne, at the barbeque. They haven't interacted much throughout the year, except the prefects' briefing, when it was necessary. She passed @Hjørdis Jensen with a silent bow and then passed the posing @Caradoc Browne with another silent and awkward bow, as she didn't get whether he saw her or not, and finally arrived in the place of her destination — the big table, full of good food. There was no sign of halloumi burgers that time, so with a sigh, she stuffed her plate with all sorts of edible items, she moved further to get a glass of lemonade.
With both hands occupied by her evening meal, she moved closer to the sitting benches. Her friend was nowhere around, so she assumed she would be arriving later. So, for now: nom-nom.

Santario raised her eyebrows in surprise when he recognized her name though it probably shouldn’t have surprised her. “Yes, that’s correct. Santario Martin.” As soon as the Sure was out of the professor’s mouth, she reached into her camera bag, grabbing the flash attachment, and started to attach it. “Yes, just right there should be perfect, really. Besides Professor Pendrast and Headmaster Lear, you are one of the only professors I don’t have a solo photo of. Just for my memories of Hogwarts.” She walked the short distance with him as she attached the flash, and when he asked if his stance was fine, she nodded. “Perfect, this is going to be bright, so try not to blink.” She lined up the shot. “One, Two, and Three.” The flash would go off, and his photograph captured. She blinked a few times the light getting to her a little as she started to detach the flash piece. “Thank you, professor Browne!”Interacting| @Caradoc Browne

She would slip the flash attachment back into her bag and look around, letting her eyes readjust to the darkening sky. Using the flash all the time might have been ideal if she was trying to do portraits; what she was really trying to do was capture the mood. The way the lights flared and lit up the background. Her favorite part was going to be when the campfire was lit. Putting a macro focus on the flames while blurred people were in the background. Those photos would be flawless. As she looked at the Fire area, she saw who she thought was the boy that made the public outburst in the great hall a few weeks ago. Perhaps, she would avoid him, the last thing she wanted to deal with was a confrontation over a stupid photograph. And if there was at least something she was good at, it was reading people and the room they were in.
There was one girl that she definitely did not know, and while she didn’t care to learn most of her own housemates' names, she at least recognized their faces. This girl was new, new. Maybe, one of those Ilvermorney or Durmstrang students. The other student who had shown up was one she knew to be a prefect and someone she knew from the time she worked on the Headliner. She wondered if the Prefects were still being held to their duties even now. Santario decided it was time to focus on the other potions of the decorations that she had not gotten yet. Still not quite ready to grab a plate of food for herself just yet.

Open for interactions!Apparently, the barbeque held on the third of July would be the first chance for Hogwarts students to meet the visitors from other schools, so Lucia had made a special effort.
Sure, all her clothes would probably stink of ash by the end of the night, but it would be worth it, the girl was sure. While she and her fellows needed to make a friendly impact on the others, they also needed to make it clear that they were going to win this thing, and so Lucia's outfit included a yellow checked t-shirt to display a bit of House Pride.
Lucia completed her ensemble with a denim skirt and, after a moment of hesitation brushed put her hair before leaving it down. She would just have to give it a really good wash afterwards, that was all.
Finally ready, Lucia made her way to the courtyard area where the barbeque was set up.
She looked approvingly at the choice of decoration; the girl especially liked the lights strung up around the area, and the house banners seemed to have a subtle way of saying, 'This part belongs to Hogwarts.'
There were quite a few people in attendance so far, though the young witch couldn't tell which school they were from.
The people who caught her eye were a girl with a camera and her own head of House, who was looking a little awkward as a photo was snapped of him.
Lucia wasn't quite sure what to do, but before long her stomach answered her question for her and she made her way over to the Hufflepuff professor and the girl.
"Hello, Professor," she said as she approached, nodding a greeting to the other girl. "Can we just take the food?"

The Head of Hufflepuff smiled towards the girl. Nodding in silence, he stepped forward, happy to break away from the awkward stance. Photography had never been his thing. Though he realised perhaps he ought to take some more of Cassanora or even his other relatives. Though not Cad, he imagined that man was on the Polaroids of many past-flames' bedchamber walls by now. But Cae's family would have been nice. Her twins would likely not enjoy the idea of sitting still for just a minute. Ruffling Santario's hair a bit as he walked past her, he grinned broadly. "You seem good at this. Any chance to make it a career?" They'd make their way back towards the main area where his question would be interrupted by one of his badgers that had decided to approach him. Lucia Fox, he recalled. A girl that he had met in his office. Issues with her mother, he believed. "Why yes of course, lassie. Let me help you out by the barbecue." Giving the young Slytherin a wink and a nod. He left the little photographer to her own adventures. Perhaps later by the fire he'd get the chance of another conversation with miss Martin. He recalled her mother well now he had spoken with her.
His head turned and cocked towards the Hufflepuff. "Now what is it that you prefer, miss Fox? There's a variety of choices, fancy a halloumi burger? I tried one last year, they're nice." The man smiled to his student, trying to help get a meal she liked. For a second his eyes lingered on the Slytherin Head of House. Blue eyes locking on the woman that had actually decided to show up, a smirk appeared on his face. Though soon he brought his attention back to the conversation. "Hm? Any ideas?"
If Lucia chose to follow him to the barbecue stand, they'd pass by Howard sitting by the unlit fire. "Do I need to grill that for you Mr White?" Doc quietly asked out as he passed the boy and patted the boy's shoulder. It was good to see his old prefect making an appearance in public. "Just give me a shout, if you need something." Doc whispered and winked at the boy, before he continued escorting Miss Fox to the place to be.
