Stargazing
July 06th 2020 | 1800
Hogwarts Students OnlyStargazing was going to be a wonderfully relaxing night because Alaric had no intention of making this entirely educational. It could be for those that wanted it, but it was also meant just to breathe and enjoy. Relax and unwind from the crazy day to day that they were used to experiencing. Alaric, having been a part of the Astrology community, pulled in a favor to get them overnight at the Grove Park Community Group – Ringway Centre, which was a rarity for the site.
During the one hour train ride from London, he would explain that Grove Park is designated as a Dark Sky Discovery Site. It has a community centre, large garden, & three-acre nature reserve used by John Griffiths, who taught astronomy at the Royal Greenwich Observatory. They would be in a location on the nature reserve about a ten minute walk from the main buildings. As he spoke, @Annie Morgan would hand out a star chart to each of the students and list the thirty constellations that could be seen in full tonight. Even though the moon has just been full the night before, he ensured them that they would still have a stunning view.Once they had arrived, Alaric and Annie would lead them from the main compound down a trail towards two medium sized buildings where the path ended. On the right would be the girls’ bathroom and Professor @Rosalind Kibitzer's fortune telling station. Though she lacked a classic fortune teller's tent, it hadn't stopped Professor Kibitzer from taking on the mystic role. A blanket was spread out with two pillows and a small table to hold her crystal ball, a small glass sphere set atop a wooden holder. She was seated on one of the pillows with her back to the trees, waiting for the first curious students to come and meet their fate. The ugly pattern of the blanket and the lack of back support for the seats made it look like a scene straight out of the woman's own classroom.

A plethora of other fortune-telling toys laid around the crystal ball on her table, however. Tarot cards, playing cards, and a jar full of seashells, small stones, old American muggle coins, and what looked like bones. One candle was lit at the edge of the table to provide some light for the readings without disturbing the stargazers. With little to entertain her before the students got started looking for their readings, the professor offered passers-by small tidbits of information regarding the alignment of the stars and what it meant for their summer plans.
To the left would be the boys’ bathrooms and Professor @Cypresse Lian's setup for telling stories about the stars. A sort of nest, so to speak, of several gigantic velvet pillows arranged in a circle and piled over a large rug, was spread out over the grass. The woman herself lounged on a couple of embroidered pillows of her own, with her house elf assistant, Ceta, sitting next to her on a smaller cushion. A couple of blankets were thrown around on top of the pillows in case somebody felt cold.
There was no table here, but there was a large wooden plank in the center of the rug, a flat surface for anyone who needed to put something down. A pile of antique but functional metal binoculars had been stacked in the middle for anyone who wanted a closer look.
She'd neglected to bring any regular light sources - not because she forgot that light was a thing, which she would have if Ceta hadn't reminded her, but because she didn't want any light pollution was a mystery. While it was a shame that they were stargazing right after the full moon, she didn't want anything else between the students and the constellations. Instead, floating orbs of red light, a light that wouldn't have the same effect as normal blue or white light, lit the area dimly, just enough so that collisions and falls could be avoided.
Down the middle ten red blankets could be seen lined up with a multitude of pillows on each one and a few blue blankets to cover up with. The red blankets would be flanked by five picnic tables on either side with a wicker basket on each that Annie Morgan had worked hard to set up.
Inside these lovely baskets, you could find a variety of bread including white, wheat, and whatever your heart desires. Several types of meat turkey, ham, salami, etc. A spread of different cheeses like cheddar and colby jack as well as other unique types. Lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and any other necessities or condiments are included in the lovely basket to make yourself and your lover or friends the perfect sandwich!
Not interested in a hefty sandwich? The basket also includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, just a few among the many are cherries, strawberries, snap peas, carrots, and any dip you may want to mix and match with like melted cheddar, chocolate, ranch or blue cheese. To offset the sweet or savory, there is also a mixture of pretzels and nuts to give you just a bit of salt that you might crave.
Now, of course, a picnic isn't complete without some sweet treats? For any of the younger students who haven't had the chance to visit Honeydukes in Hogsmeade, worry no more, Honeydukes has come to you! Chocolate Frogs, Licorice wands, Jelly slugs, Chocoballs, and Bertie's Bott's Every Flavour Beans are contained inside the basket to cure any student's sweet tooth. All plates and cutlery that are needed is provided.
At the far end would be five grey slabs that each held a telescope from Hogwarts for those students that might be more inclined to use them. They were enchanted, so the light of the full moon wouldn’t hinder the students if they choose to use them. As the students filed into the area, Alaric would address them one more time. “ Please feel free to snag up a blanket with your friends, grab a picnic table, get some food, listen to Professor Lian, tell stories behind the stars, and Professor Kibitzer is here to use her divine talents. This is an especially unique situation for those of you who cannot take her classes until your third year. I can be found at the far most picnic table on the right. Please enjoy!”

Stargazing
Open to Interactions
Stargazing. That one word caught Katrina's attention the instant Adonis had handed her pamphlet before school had even got out. The second year had always felt a pull to the night sky. Maybe because it was one of her last memories of her father, or perhaps just because it was humbling to take in the fact that the universe was just so huge. Katrina had a special connection to the Astronomy teacher, Professor Karr, as she had been the one Katrina had come to, to talk to about everything that had happened to her. Not only that, but a while back Katrina had ended up the year stargazing with a few students. So when Katrina found out that the stargazing event was about to start, she was one of the first to arrive at the bus.
Professor Equinox, the head of Ravenclaw, told them about the place they were going to on the hour bus drive. Katrina couldn't help her budding excitement. A whole night made for stargazing? It really couldn't get any better. Someone handed her a pamphlet on the bus showing the star map for the night. Katrina hardly had to look at it because she already knew where the constellations would lie.
As the students poured from the busses, Katrina's neck was already craned back to take in the unobstructed night sky. The whole place was beautifully set up with several stations where teachers were hosting different talks, but Katrina was only drawn to the views. She immediately sat down on a picnic blanket and lay down on her back.
Katrina was in a great mood today. Anyone could tell because she was humming a happy song under her breath.

Stargazing
Adonis was more than excited when he originally read over the list of activities for summer camp and saw that they were going to be stargazing. He couldn't wait. It was at the top of his list right next to Capture the Base and Chess Combat. Donnie was glad that he was fortunate enough to not be called back home by his family and was able to stay for the summer camp. Hell. He was fortunate enough to even have a family to go back to after all of this. The boy was aware of those who didn't and one of them was his friend Katrina.
Throughout the entire train ride, Adonis and the others in his tent group just chatted amongst each other whether some of them got along or not. Some of them were also most likely split up to different compartments too due to not being able to fit ten people into one. He enjoyed the company of those that he did have in his compartment on the train ride there though. Apparently they were going to Grove Park and had been handed start charts in which Adonis looked over as Professor Equinox provided some background info to them.
Upon finally arriving at their destination, Adonis happily got off of the train alongside his tent group that he came with. He looked in amazement at the entire setup around him for their stargazing area. Donnie took notice of Professor Kibitzer's station and made a mental note to go over to hers later. She was very much interested to see what she had to showcase and possibly even be told a fortune. His eyes then trailed over to Professor Lian's station as well where she would be telling stories. He wasn't interested that much in that one but he was sure there would be good stories to be told.
When he came across a picnic table, he quickly ran over to one and gestured for his friends to follow him so that they could try and claim a table early on to be at. "Look at all the food they got here in the picnic basket! They have different kinds of breads, meats, fruits, and CANDY! I'm for sure taking some of these Jelly slugs. Adonis said to the others rather excitedly, snatching a bag of Jelly slugs for himself as he sat down. “This could be our table I suppose unless you guys want to move over to a blanket or no? Up to the lot of you. I’m down for whatever to be honest.” He shrugged simply, not really caring for what they decided on in the end.
As he was now sitting there and eating from his bag of Jelly slugs, he began to look around at all their the others there as well. That was until his gaze had landed on Katrina whom he saw lying down on a blanket nearby. “I’ll catch up with you all later or maybe even join me on the blanket. I don’t know.” He wasn’t really paying any attention to what he was saying and instead just stood up and left the table shortly after. Adonis slowly crept up on Katrina from behind while she her back was against the blanket. Eventually, he suddenly sprang forward and obstructed her view of the night sky with his face. “BOO!” He shouted in her face with a wide grin plastered across his own.

@Adonis ThornKatrina was enjoying herself immensely. The ground was surprisingly comfortable so she lay with her back on the ground and her legs propped up. She reached a feeling of simplicity and contentment, able to tune out everyone around her. As far as she was concerned, it was only her and the night sky. She could easily see hundreds of stars, more as the sun set down further. The people setting this up had been smart to limit white and blue light so the students could see more stars than normal even though the moon was bright.
When a huge head and a loud 'BOO' leapt in front of her head Katrina yelped and sat up, eyes wide and heart pounding. "Adonis! What was that bloody for?" She yelled, still quite ruffled. A hand came up and smacked him across the face. It wasn't hard enough to leave a mark, but it would be easily hard enough to take him back a step.
Katrina huffed, annoyed, but wishing a wry smile would stop pulling at her lips. She dug her hand in the package of Jelly slugs Adonis was holding and took out a teal gummy and promptly plopped it in her mouth. She continued to give him a side-eye as she looked back up to the sky. She munched on the candy, quite pleased with herself. It was really good.
"You do know that the reason for this whole event is to look at the sky, not scare the crap out of people," Katrina glared daggers somewhat playfully at him, not trusting him to not scare her again.
The song played through her head again and Katrina began humming the chorus. Did you see that shooting star tonight? Were you dazzled by the same constellation? Did you and Jupiter conspire to get me? I think you and the moon and Neptune got it right, because now I'm shining bright. It was sort of an applicable song since they were looking at the sky.
Katrina couldn't help the crooked smile on her face as she leaned back to look at the sky.

Honestly, he should've expected that to happen in reaction to what he did. Did he deserve it though? Hell yea. Was it the first time he had been slapped like a girl like that. Yes, it was. So, naturally it took him by surprise and he had to take a second to register what exactly had just happened, instantly reeling backwards as he was slapped. It was like a cartoon where his head was stuck in the position it was turned upon being slapped afterwards. Eventually, he came back to senses after the initial shock. "Damn that hurt more than I expected it to." Adonis said with a slight chuckle, rubbing his cheek as he did so.
Adonis gave her a playful frown when she took a jelly slug from his bag of them. "You know... I could always get you a bag of your own. They have candy from Honeydukes in the picnic baskets." He informed her, plopping down on the blanket beside her to look up at the star-filled night sky as well.
"Pft. Well, yeah obviously I do. I just figured my face would serve as something more admirable to look at compared to the sky, you know?" Donnie said teasingly with a wide smirk on his face. He too then laid down down on the blanket beside her, focusing his gaze on the many constellations in the sky now. "I suck at astronomy. So, you're going to have to point at which is which to me cause I won't understand one bit of what I'm looking at. Do you think we'll be able to see a shooting star?" Adonis was being as talkative as always, of course. He couldn't help himself in creating conversation due to the excitement of it all.
After assuming that he had been talking too much and Katrina probably just wanted to look at the night sky in peace, Adonis finally shut himself up and just took it all in. It was nice to finally have a break like this from everything back at Hogwarts and in the rest of the wizarding world. This would definitely be a summer to remember with all of the fun activities they had already done and the ones they still had to do.

@Adonis ThornKatrina maintained a crooked smile on her face as Adonis reeled back from her smack. A tiny part of her felt bad, but it was still funny enough to laugh at. He laughed and rubbed his cheek tenderly. Katrina shrugged in a way that said, 'that's what you get'.
"But it tastes better when I steal it from you," Katrina grinned, taking another slug and munching down on it. She leaned back and stared at the sky, her eyes tracing a handful of constellations.
"The sky is much prettier than your face," Katrina said shamelessly, a blush rising to her cheeks from who knows what. Must be the cool breeze brushing over them. As always, Adonis was talkative. She reached into her pocket and drew out the folded star map they had been given from the bus. She held it up, turning it so the cardinal directions lined up.
"I'm not sure about the shooting stars, but I do know where all of the constellations are," Katrina tossed map to Adonis if he wanted to look at it. "So you see that super bright star almost right above us? That's Arcturus. It's like 25 times bigger than our sun. There's a couple other stars that make a sort of diamond, but they are too faint to really see now, but they make Bootus. I don't remember that story though,"
Katrina shifted her gaze, trying to spot the most obvious constellations, "Oh, yeah, um Leo is my sign-- since I was born in August. The actual constellation is way over there," Katrina lifted an arm to point at a couple trees.
"And um, over there," Katrina pointed in the other direction, "Those really bright stars actually aren't stars, they are Saturn and Jupiter, but you can really only see Saturn, if we get a telescope you'd be able to see Saturn's rings,"
"And I almost forgot! Draco, my favorite constellation, since it's a dragon, is right above us," with a cheesy grin on her face, Katrina traced the long shape with a finger. "There's those four kite shaped stars then the bright one over there, and a few between those, then the really faint one and the medium flashy red/orange colored one," at the mention of each star, Katrina pointed at them.
Katrina really only knew a handful of the names of stars, but she knew all of the constellations and a lot of stories that go with the constellations. It was just nice to take it all in. To realize how tiny you really are.

There were plans for the night and most of his tentmates were attending the gathering of students who were doing the stargazing activity. Honestly, Zyk couldn't give a damn about gazing upon the stars and found the whole activity to be quite ridiculous. There was even going to be fortune-telling and a lesson on astronomy? How preposterous. Regardless, he had plans to meet up with Lizzie there and probably finalize their doomed experiment sometime now or in the near future. The jig' was nearly up and it seemed it might have run its course. Spending time with the rest of those he bunked with didn't seem like a bad deal either, figuring this summer was going to either form some close bonds or create some serious enemies.
Black on black was his typical fashion attire, tonight was no different indeed, a straight black hoodie was adorned and he kept the hood over his head to protect his ears from the nights brisk cold. Even in July, London had a bit of a chill in the evenings. Of course, he settled his hands into the center pocket of his hoodie and had his fingers grasping the aspen wood wand that lay hidden within. There were too many students from other schools milling about and he would never let his guard down around these strange kids, they seemed weird to him for some reason. Adonis had led them to a picnic table full of delights that he seemed quite excited for, he smirked towards the Slytherin and nodded, "Dope," was all he said, reaching out a hand to grab a bag of Jelly Slugs of his own.
Golden hues shifted to watch him as he went over towards a familiar girl that he hadn't seen since the end of the school year. Katrina was laying on the grass and he watched as Adonis slowly crept up on the girl and decided to scare the girl with a loud noise. Zyk nearly choked on the candy he had just plopped into his mouth when the girls reaction was to reach up and slap the poor guy. "Oooof, rough mate.." he offered in a raised voice over towards the two of them there. They probably didn't hear him though as he usually didn't raise his voice too loud in any given situation. Looking around to the rest of the people he was within his tent, he nodded over towards Dee and held out a bag of the Jelly Slugs that he had, "Oy' Princess, want some?" he said, that perfection of a smirk he practiced playing across his features.

Adonis let out a slight snort and chuckled at her moment. "Oh, you're just cruel for that then if they only taste better after taking them from me." He remarked, taking out another slug to eat but only to wiggle it in front of Katrina's face first. Don then brought it back to his own, raising his head slightly to try and drop it into his mouth but he unfortunately missed and it hit the ground, making him frown at the unsuccessful attempt.
"Dang you just can't stop it with the ruthlessness today can you?" Adonis asked her teasingly. "I disagree with that statement but we're all entitled to our own opinions I suppose." He was only messing around, of course. Adonis wasn't actually that cocky or narcissistic about himself. Adonis plucked the map off of his chest when it landed there after Katrina tossed it to him and began to look it over. His eyes narrowed as they looked over the map in trying to understand it, constantly switching with having it in front of his face and not while comparing the sky to the map. "So, you're basically saying that if that star was our sun then the entire Earth would constantly be like 100 degrees and up? If that's big I mean." Adonis simply shrugged. "Hmm. Interesting." He might've not had the same interest or want to learn astronomy like Kat but it was fascinating, nonetheless.
"Hold on. They named a constellation 'Booty'? Who the heck gives these kind of names?" Adonis shook his head while stifling a laugh. "I'm a uhhh- Libra. Yup!" He tilted his head as he followed Katrina trace her favorite constellation, which was Draco apparently. Donnie sort of saw it? His imagination was horrible when it came to things like this in being able to picture them and connect it together. He wasn't going to tell her that though. "OH! Yeah, I see it now. Almost like a snake though if I'm being honest." He tossed another jelly slug into his mouth with a sly grin.
When she mentioned what looked like to be two bright stars but were actually other planets, Adonis was quite surprised and amazed by it. He didn't know it was possible to see the other planets up in the sky like that. And with a telescope? Adonis definitely wanted to see them now at the mention of it! "The heck? For real?! Well, what are we waiting for then? Let's go get a look at them!" Adonis quickly sprang up to his feet and grabbed Katrina by the hand without much thought behind it in an attempt to drag her along with him towards one of the five grey slabs that held a telescope.

@Adonis ThornKatrina couldn't help but snort when Adonis missed his mouth and dropped the slug on the ground. She shook her head at him in mockery before leaning back down to gaze at the sky. There was something about the sky that was making her... happy? content? It was an emotion that she couldn't quite determine. But she was really enjoying this event so far.
Katrina sort of shook her head at the comment about how hot the earth would be. "Well, actually, Earth would have been sucked up by the sun at that size, so yes, it would be much hotter," Katrina stifled a laugh. It was sort of funny sharing her love of the sky to someone who... well... sort of didn't have the same love of it.
With Adonis' comment of 'booty' Katrina snorted so loud she felt her throat hurt. "It's Bootus, and I figured you'd say that,"
When Adonis saw the constellation, Katrina felt a spark of satisfaction, although she could kind of tell that he was struggling spotting the stars. It did take a while and a bit of creativity to find it.
When Katrina mentioned seeing the rings, Katrina smiled. She had finally found something that he was interested in. That had been her goal after all. To find something that he was interested in. Adonis sprang to his feet and grabbed Katrina's hand. A zap of electricity ran up her arm. She hesitated a moment, mind reeling for a reason she wasn't sure of. However, she snapped out of her hesitation for a moment and stood up, hand still in his. She was drug back over to the telescopes, Adonis exuding excitement.
"Let me set it up," Katrina smiled to him before letting go of his hand and bending over to put her eye in the hole. She adjusted the knobs and gears, twisting until Saturn was in sight. When it came into focus, she was gentle to adjust it until you could easily see the large planet perfectly in focus. The image was so clear Katrina couldn't help but wonder if it was enchanted. You could easily see the rings and even some of the larger cloud shapes in the atmosphere of the planet. "So be careful not to bump it and just put your eye to the hole. If it looks black, you'll just have to shift back and forth. Also close one eye so that you can focus on it clearer,"
Katrina couldn't help but keep smiling. There was something in the air tonight.

Santario listened to the information provided on the hour long train ride by Professor Equinox and took the star map from the Hufflepuff Prefect when she was handed it. As she walked through the admittedly stunning area, she would walk past the group that had already formed themselves around one of the picnic tables and headed to the left side. The now waning full moon did a perfect job of lightning up the area so it was no surprise that there were little to no alternative light sources. She picked the middle picnic table on the left and sat down in the middle of the bench with her back to the tree line. She heard the others exclaiming about all of the food that was provided in the baskets, and she let out a sigh of relief because she was hungry. Santario slid the basket closer to herself and opened it, apprising what had been provided for them. Santario grabbed a plate and started to load it with different fruits, cheeses, vegetables, and a few types of meat. Last-minute, she saw the pretzels and added some of those to her plate before grabbing a napkin and closing the basket.
She sat back and crossed her legs on the bench, popping a pretzel into her mouth before grabbing a piece of hard salami and wrapping it around a slice of sharp cheddar. She looked around as other students would be filing into the area observing who was with who and where they went.
