QWC Watch Party: Kazakhstan v. Brazil
Reducio
This thread is open to Hufflepuff students and quidditch staff only. Though it's posted in the London stadium, the thread takes place in the Hufflepuff Common Room.
Hufflepuff was a humble house. All the other houses were eager to go into London along with the entire wizarding world to watch the World Cup together. After their adventure from earlier this year, Professor BonBon had a feeling most weren’t terribly eager to leave the comfort of their common room. Fortunately, he was happy to oblige. After all, a World Cup where the Americans weren’t playing was not one worth watching, much less traveling to. Not everyone was on his side on how great the American team was, so a watch party would go on, regardless of which unknown, backwater un-American teams were playing.
The couches were arranged around the fireplace for optimal viewing regardless of seat choice. In the center was a coffee table full of assorted snack foods. The highlight was the giant bowl of popcorn mixed with chocolate candies for that sweet and salty combo. Pumpkin juice was in season, so a cooler full of bottles was on hand for everyone that wanted one. Yes, it was the perfect setup for game watching. Currently, however, the only thing that the students were seeing was BonBon’s big behind.
The head of house was halfway into the fireplace, aided by floo powder to take him to a shop all the way in London. No one could hear anything except the yelling about the overpriced costs to view their particular game.
“How much?!” BonBon exclaimed. “Who do you think is playing?! This isn’t America vs Brits! You know this is for children! You are literally stealing from children!”
Despite his objections, BonBon emerged from the fireplace, pulling out what appeared to be a fairly large picture frame. There was currently nothing displayed on the picture, but BonBon was hard at work trying to fix that. After brushing off the soot from his robes, the wizard pulled out a sheet of installation instructions. He mumbled to himself as he attempted to decipher the overly technical wording.
“Poke with your wand…four corners of the PortraitVision Set…cast Revelio…”
BonBon used his wand to levitate the portrait above the fireplace. He then pushed it to the wall, using his wand at each of the four corners to secure it to the wall. Finally, BonBon stepped back and caast Revelio.
Suddenly, the picture came to life. The quidditch stadium roared to life with the thunderous cheers of the fans. The image looked nearly real, yet it had a sense that it was painted on. The people on the field were moving, as if a living painting.
It would have looked more impressive if it weren’t upside down.
“I swear the muggles do a beeter job at this,” BonBon grumbled as went back to the portrait to flip it right side up. Once satisfied, he went back to one of the couches.
“Kazakhstan v. Brazil. They’re probably competent teams.”
He continued to sulk, mad that he paid so much money for a game that didn’t even feature Americans.

Thankfully the Quidditch World Cup began, Miko had been waiting since well last year! He barely had got sent enough money to watch but he got it. Watching the professor try to set up portrait thing that showed the game, he silently laughed. Clearly Professor BonBon was serious about the game like Miko which was good to know. "Professor, I see you're enjoyin' the game!" the boy laughed at his own remark which was a bit sad.
The young Hufflepuff found a place to sit and tried to watch the game as the head of house was still struggling to fix the frame, although he understood. His step-dad always had trouble with this kind of stuff. Hoping he could maybe buy a snack or something he patted his pockets. "Aw c'mon! They took all the bloody money both my dads gave me. What a scam!" he mostly directed that statement to the clerk and shook his fist at him. The game isn't even that good, Scotland isn't even involved! he thought, angrily. Miko was frustrated he couldn't even buy anything to eat or collect as the candy trolley came rolling past him.
A raggedy old owl came and dropped off a heavy box right on his lap and it said on top "For my boy at the game!". Quickly, he tore the package open and in all it's glory sat marvelous chocolate frogs, Fizzy Whizbees, No Melt Ice Cream and loads upon loads of his favorite candy Ton-Tongue Toffee. Hiding behind the toffee was three bottles of Pumpkin Juice and he offered one to the professor. "You want one sir? I've got more than enough for only myself." Miko asked
Bonabé and held out the bottle. He was so excited for the game but still disappointed Scotland's team didn't even make it to the World Cup.

AS nice as it was, it pained him to not be at the Quidditch World Cup. It happened every four years and he wouldn't get to see it happen again until he was in his sixth year. That time around, he surely would go to the games in person. Back in Derby, he'd always ask his dad to see the football club play at Pride Park, the stadium for the team. He wouldn't always go, but when he did, the excitement was there and plain as day when the young boy was watching his favorite team play.
WIN or lose, he was there. Reid wanted to be the same for his team or at least the games in general. He actually wasn't rooting for any country in particular, especially since his favorite team wasn't even on there. Braga Broomfleets, a team from Portugal - known for their Beater marking system. He's read accounts of some of the games the Broomfleets were in and he quickly fell in love with the team and its colors.
SO he had been following the regional teams rather than the QWC before this, but he wasn't a stranger to the national ones. It was a shame that Wales lost to Kazakhstan in the first week though, he had been rooting for that team. From that point on, he followed the others quite loosely. When the screen came to light, he couldn't help but feel the same excitement as the crowd did in the stadium.
REID looked awed by the spectacle, almost moved with the roar of the games. "Reminds me so much of the FIFA World Cup." he breathed. Would any of the other students know football? He didn't know if they were interested in it too. Normally, he would be eating like Miko, but the young boy was so caught up in the game already. As match seemed to play on, he couldn't help but holler at the screen. "Brilliant, that formation is brilliant." He was talking specifically about Brazil's team, whose brooms he took an interest to.

"Is anyone winning yet?"
Rosie called that question as she dashed into the common room. As per usual, she was a bit late. But for a genuine reason this time. She had been finishing up some dumb homework that had gotten her stuck in her chair for a while. Her brain machine must've been malfunctioning, because she had never gotten so stuck on one piece of homework. Maybe it was because she was too excited thinking about watching her first Quidditch game in the common room. Her first! Growing up in a muggle family, she had never even heard of Quidditch until her first year at Hogwarts.
But eventually, the small girl ran into the common room. There weren't a lot of people watching yet, but it was fine. she didn't want a big crowd anyway. Rosie made the decision of who to sit next to, so she took a running start and hopping over the couch and sitting on the cushion. "Unless the game hasn't started yet... Which in that case, never mind." She mumbled, taking out a lollipop and letting it rest in the corner of her mouth.
Rosie had decided a new side of her when learning Quidditch. She had never been very interested in sports when she was so busy with dance, but there must've been a hidden competitive habit inside of her. Maybe it was because she was growing older, because it was definitely there and growing. But she didn't really... Know any of the teams from her lack of knowledge on it. At home, they couldn't watch it. At school, she was too busy.
She listened to Reid and Miko get excited over the game, and grinned. It was entertaining to watch. When Reid mentioned formation, she turned to the screen and gasped, sitting up on her knees a little. "That is brilliant. How often do you think they practice that? Is it their secret technique to win?" She asked, grinning wide and glancing at Reid. Rosie took out her lollipop and slumped back against the couch, crossing her legs.
