Food. The one global constant. Everywhere in the world, various cultures expressed themselves in the food that they produced and prepared. It might taste different, look different, or even have a different smell or process of preparation. But everyone, regardless of colour, heritage, or identity, needed to eat. That said, it wasn't the food that drew Greta to the BBQ. It was the fact that she couldn't find Hanzo. Again. Barely three days into this trip and already he'd given her the slip more times than she cared to admit, even though mother had made him promise that he would look out for her. Sure.

It was more than just her annoyance at his absence, though. There was a genuine worry. Entirely unfamiliar with Hogwarts and the natures of those who attended it, Greta couldn't know what to expect in terms of welcome. With the reputation their delinquent school had garnered over the past year, she couldn't possibly begin to imagine their version of a "warm welcome". Hanzo was one of the First-string chaser on the team, and a good throw for points. The possibility of sabotage was one that could not be excluded in the little blonde's mind, as much as she abhorred the thought. Aloof he might be, but he was still her brother.

For a while, Greta hung on the peripheral of the gathering, hands in the pockets of her layered, half-sleeve dress. There were… a lot of people there. And they were all so tall. Even one of what she assumed was an adult even though he was shorter than some of the students was about as wide as she was tall. It set her stomach to fluttering, a briefly horrifying image of being eaten by the frightening Hogwarts faculty flitting through her thoughts. She pursed her lips and furrowed her brow at that, giving herself a mental shake of the head. This was silly. They were just people. How could she expect to garner any respect on behalf of her institution if she couldn't even stride into their midst for a simple bite to eat. She had every right to be there as much as the next person. Perhaps moreso. Her mother had mentioned there may be undesireable sorts, leaches in disguise, hiding among those present. Plus, how was she supposed to accomplish her task if she didn't mingle?

How are you supposed to anyway, when you don't even know what they're saying..

Her head lolled back briefly at the thought, a fresh wave of annoyance rippling through her. Teeth nibbled at her lip as cerulean eyes picked up where they left off in scanning the distant crowd. To go… or not. Maybe he was in there already? He probably was… A glance around her immediate vicinity denied the presence of any of her other tent mates, either. Perfect.

[In Norwegian] "Alright, Greta.." She muttered to herself, pulling her hands to clap her palms lightly to her cheeks to set her focus and steel her resolve. "You can do this…"

She could. Barely. One step. Then another. She drew closer to the gathering, but with every stride forward, she could feel her pulse quickening. Lips pressed together over her teeth as palms shoved themselves back into her pockets to hide the fists that pattered anxiously against her thighs. Sweep right, no Hanzo. Sweep left, nope. She gave a wide berth to anyone she encountered, ducking her head as though to make her small stature of four foot four even smaller. Being invisible would have been perfect in that moment. To be able to flit around unseen.

It was at least five minutes of Greta awkwardly dodging the paths and wandering eyes of others while also trying to find Hanzo before she decided that maybe he wasn't here after all. She had just turned about to take her leave, not sure she could stand another moment in the crowd of giants and surly peers when she spotted an angel in the crowd.

"Ella!" Her relief was palpable. All at once, her worry and fear began to ebb with the sight of her friend and teammate. Feet thudded dully on the pressed ground as she hurried to close the short distance, arms opening to wrap her in a hug from the side. The younger Forsberg was one of the few (including Milo and Hanzo) with whom she had no qualms dropping her barriers.

[In Standard Swedish] "I'm so glad you're here… " Pulling back, she noticed Nichlas taking his leave. "Hello Nicke.." she offered, giving him a shy wave and tempered smile. Scarlet shot through her cheeks the second she realised her mistake. "I'm sorry!" She squeaked, eyes widening slightly as her free hand sprang up to cover her mouth. "I meant... N-nichlas..." she corrected, voice small and muffled, dread coursing through her. It was well known that he hated that nickname, but Greta had accidentally picked it up from overhearing Ella one too many times.

[In Norwegian] "I always do that..." she groaned, hand trailing down her face to wash free her pile of regret. With a sigh, she returned her focus — albeit somewhat sheepishly, and still glowing with a deep blush — to Ella. Given that Howard had been approached by someone else, Greta remained ignorant that he was technically party to this interaction and ignored his presence.

[Still in Standard Swedish] "I'm still disappointed we couldn't tent together," Greta lamented nudging her shoulder against Ella's before slipping her arm into hers to interlink them, definitely not because she was feeling insecure or needing an anchor in lieu of Hanzo's continued absence. "How has it been? Who are you tenting with anyway? By the way, have you seen Hanzo? I can't find him..."

Ella refused to allow the energy of others to affect her peaceful state. Her mother did well to teach her that pessimism was a choice. It led to an invincibility on her surface, that even when this energy is directed at her, like an arrow to stone it would fall helplessly to the ground...ineffective. Not to imply the twelve year old girl did not have much to learn. As she begins to let others in, the people she endears are bound to hurt her one day. But her state of mind would supply resilience, taking her troubles with a grain of salt. To keep her head high, if it’s meant to be it will be.

So when the taller dhampir from Hogwarts twitched in frustration with a harsh crack of his neck, Ella would simply smile, charmed. Surely this moody prancer had his reasons, being hangry can bring out the worst in people. She would not take offence, or mull over the source of his behavior. Only the solution, which was removing the stick implanted in his backside. Complying with his desire to retrieve food was a good start. The boy urged the group towards the grill, prompting Nichlas to usher Ella along to make her own plate. “Lead the way, sir. The last word contained a note of sportive sarcasm, fitting for Howard’s sense of entitlement.

She turned her head back once more in the direction of the dark skinned boy with curly hair she saw moments ago. Her eyes flickered around, unable to find him. Oh well, another time. Ella arrived at the tables near the grill with a pair of new acquaintances joining the scene. The first girl quickly introduced herself, her American accent indicating she must attend Ilvermony. Ella matched her enthusiastic greeting in the exchange of names, the prospect of a friend from somewhere so distant was enticing. “Hi Phyllis! Ella Forsberg, and my brother...NichLAS.” She motioned to her brother, a playful emphasis on the latter half of his name after he clearly expressed his distaste with Nicke.

Howard approached another girl with pleasant hazel skin[Serena], and despite being shorter than Ella there was an air of maturity about her. Quickly apologetic that she did not prepare burgers for Howard’s assumed entourage, and offered up her own. It prompted a sentiment from Phyllis, which Ella quickly echoed. “Oh, no, keep it!” She tilted her head with a smile of sweet sincerity, delighted by her selflessness. “We will fix our own, but thank you!”

Before Ella could complete her trip to retrieve a plate, another distraction arrived...but a welcomed one. She turned her head to the left to find the source, visage lighting up in elation to embrace Greta. “Greta!” Beaming, she used the arm opposite the side Greta was on to reach across her body and grasp her shoulder into an embrace. After releasing she squared her frame to Greta, but still consciously remaining open to new acquaintances that she would introduce. “Greta, Phyllis...Phyllis, Greta.” Ella would save the girl from the fatigue that came with countless introductions, acquainting them on her own.

Greta’s reminder the two were not tenting for the month provided an exaggerated sullen pout. “I know…” She nodded in agreement, motioning towards Nichlas. “Mom insisted we stay together.” She sheepishly smiled, knowing all too well Nichlas would insist on his role as babysitter. But it was most certainly the other way around, given his developing inclination to get himself in trouble. Mother only presented it to him that way so his pride was still intact. “With a few of...his friends. They’re...interesting. Ella would not openly discuss her opinions in front of Nichlas, after all his choice of company was not a concern of hers. Not yet.

“Hans wandering off again? He’ll turn up, I’m sure.” She clung to Greta’s arm tightly as the pair interlinked, giving her a reassuring squeeze before relinquishing contact. “We were just going to eat, join us.” Her blue-gray eyes fell upon the table, before glancing over to Phyllis. “You coming, Phyllis?”

When Claudia entered the BBQ site she was hit with the smell of... well... barbecue. Beneath the overwhelming scent, however, she could find the charred smell of hamburgers, the cheesy smell of a baked potato, and various other foods. Her mouth watered as she forcibly made her way to where the hamburgers were, her carnivorous instincts aching for meat.

As she reached the long table, Claudia quickly grabbed a napkin and breezed through until she found an assortment of plates carrying buns, patties, chips, lettuce, and generally any topping one would need on a hamburger. Claudia messily packed a patty, lettuce, cheese, pickles, tomatoes, onions, ketchup, and mustard onto a bun. Squishing the burger down, she forced napkins to wrap around it. It was still going to be messy as she ate it, but the napkins would catch some of the juice. On her way out, Claudia’s hand snagged one of the rolls of bread.

With one hand around a burger and the other clutching a small roll, Claudia had no need for a plate. She distractedly took a large bite of the burger, some juices spilling down to the grass. Her head turned left and right as the small Ravenclaw looked for a place to sit amount the crowded tables. It seemed as if students from all schools were here, not just from Hogwarts.

As Claudia decided on a place to stand instead of sit, she heard fragments of conversations in both Swedish and English. “Gdyyshdbhcjkdm” one student said near her. “Hshhsisjnsnsgsghsh” their friend said back. To her the foreign language sounded like gibberish, and she felt both out of place and invisible as she sanded all alone. There was really no one she was trying to find, no friends at the camp, no family. As she looked out at the students around her, Claudia felt a sudden urge to go back to her tent and curl up with a book.

It was likely that her tent mate would ask why she came back, but then again he was probably at the BBQ as well and talking to his friends. Then again, he was stuck in the tent alone before she joined.

Claudia took another bite of her hamburger, her roll seeming more like decoration at that point, and wondered if anyone would actually approach her. Probably no one would, but she was fine with that as well. She had really just gone to the BBQ because it was a kind of an “I did it!” sort of thing - and because she had to eat somehow. On the plus side, it at least had good food.

So while others talked and laughed with their friends, Claudia stood alone, her only company the burger she had in her right hand. Oh, and there’s was the roll in her left too.

After the non-verbal confirmation from the blonde goddess, Meenauh quickly took the burger and placed it in a safe haven on her plate. She started to eat it with a bit more enthusiasm than usual, like an animal trying to protect the food they just hunted down for themselves. If that did not look ridiculous, what else could? She kept eating and chewing in silence throughout the whole short conversation between the two.

The awkward tension, or whatever that was, between the two heads of the houses sparked an interest Meenauh never had before. Psychology was a topic of interest for Meenauh, adult relationship psychology was the best thing to witness live. She paid attention to the mimics, the slightest movement of the lips, shooting glances, choice of words — everything was truly fascinating. The woman offered her burger to the man, which Meenauh was following with her eyes as if the woman surrendered it to the enemy. The burger cried for help, it pleaded to save it, but no one heard it except for Meenauh. She looked Caradoc in the eyes, though his eyes were locked on the goddess, so he may have not seen the expression on Meenauh's face.

The loose hair compliment hit Meenauh unexpectedly from a flank. Were the boys also looked at Meenauh differently that day she let her hair loose at the Gryffindor ball after wearing the ponytail for a year? She let it loose most of the time since then. It was a victory of freedom and Meenauh planned to keep it that way. But the fact the man paid a lot of attention the goddess' haircut meant something Meenauh could only guess at that moment. The conversation itself also made no sense to her, because she had no context. So, chewing in another burger, she stared at the woman, waiting for her reaction.

The three of them seemed to be in high spirits, so Sylvain didn't let it dampen his mood for one second that he'd been too forgetful and missed his chance to sign up for the chess-game. "There were sign ups," he said thinking back on the moment he had the sinking realization in his stomach. All while squinting his eyes and holding back a smile of course. "Oops." The lad shrugged and let a little nervous chuckle slip. "I guess I'll be watching too."

Out of the corner of his eye he had spied Aida walking over towards them. San, Alan, and Syl's triangle would become a square, or maybe even a rhombus if she joined in. Like a cat on hot bricks, Aida's bright red shirt made them stand out and made their naturally white complexion kind of pinkish. It was obvious their nerve was shot.

Sylvain gave a cool grin as they approached in hopes of soothing them, the empathetic boy thought they might have needed a hug. He offered a quick, but tight squeeze if they accepted. "I'm well, and I'm tenting alone it would seem." Syl looked concernedly at Aida, as if trying to discern what was bothering the crowd averse witch through vision alone.

Eventually returning to Alan calmly, Sylvain produced a b37 from his now overflowing pit of a bag. The card was worn with its edges a bit curled from repeated handling, though there were no serious scuffs or scratches. "This is my newest one," he spoke giddily as a grin obviated the pride of his thrift.

"Other kids don't want them if they're broken, but I don't mind."
Just as quickly as he retrieved it, he then tucked the grubby card back in his pack. "If you want, I can show you the rest uh..." he paused and a look of concern suddenly pulled his inner eyebrow down as he felt compelled not to invite anyone back to his tent. "Sometime later I suppose."

His mind then wandered to the question of when Dee and Ileen were going to get here, but he shook his head and focused on the friends around him. "So what's everyone having to eat?"

Santario slid her sharp sapphire eyes, the girl approaching Sylvain without addressing everyone else in the group, essentially interrupting the current conversation. How was it that people weren’t raised with even the basic of manners? Not even a single acknowledgment to the two other people there, it was duly noted. “Greetings.” She addressed the fair-skinned girl, who could give the dhampirs a run for their money in the sunburn Olympics, with a pleasant smile.

She looked back over to Alan now, who again mentioned some kid named Rafa. He was the quidditch captain for Gryffindor now if she remembered correctly, not that she wanted to particularly remember any captain from the Gryffindor team. “Well, that’s neat. Good luck.” She offered before watching him interact with Syl asking about chocolate frogs. Santario was definitely one of the students who preferred pristine cards, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone that knew her.

Sylvain mentioned food, and right on cue, she felt a pang that told her it was time to go get a burger grilled. “I’m actually going to go get a burger grilled right now.” She smiled at everyone and bowed her head before departing from the group. She didn’t know if anyone was going to follow behind her, and for the moment, she didn’t check. Santario secured her camera in its bag while she made her way over to the food table. It was what she expected as she quickly picked out what she needed for her burger bun, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and the raw meat on a different plate.

She would float through the throng of people to get to the grill. “Reaper.” Her silvery voice cut through the din to greet him as she handed her burger over to whoever took it for grilling. “Cook it medium to medium-well, please.” She didn’t like it bleeding, but she didn’t like it dry either. Now that she had a free hand, she adjusted her bag to the other shoulder giving her current one a break. Just because you carried the bag around all of the time didn’t mean that the weight didn’t start to bother you eventually.

Perhaps Sky wouldn't have adventured out of the tent if it weren't for the smell of such wonderful food that had made it to her shared lovely tent. It wafted through the fold of material the girl's senses perked up as she debated whether to put down her book and go and get any refreshments or food. Although her giving in to such an activity, could also have been owed to the fact that she was starving. [She hadn't eaten anything on the journey here] The young snake wandered around the crowd, observing her surroundings idly. She couldn't care less at the moment whether she was alone or not, well for now.

After picking some fruit salad, she turned to make her way back into the mass of people, with a bowl and fork in her hand. However she made a stop mid-footing, and turned to double back her gaze. She had spotted her fellow tent mate, Carolyn.

Now prior to the camp Sky would have made no effort at all to go and interact, however on her mother's wishes she had decided to take [a very small] turn to the social side of things. Making her way over she offered a smile, and this time it came much more easily, the stiffness was subsiding. “Hello Carolyn!” She said pleasantly, She then noticed another girl [Nell Zoldak] “Pleasure to meet you too.” She offered her hand to shake, “I'm Sky. Sky evans.” She poked another strawberry with her fork, then lifting her head to converse with the girls. “It's wonderful that they've set this up, don't you think? The setting is absolutely delightful.” She said brightly, “I wonder what will come next, oh and I am excited for quidditch! Do any of you like quidditch?”

Great. Now she was rambling. This wasn't something the girl would usually do. It was a particularly familiar act of hers to be quite silent, haughty and authoritative in her ways. However, this time round, those things had flown out of the window. On the brighter side of things, she couldn't remember the last time she had been so happy, talking to other people, the relaxed aura around her welcome to her senses. She felt peaceful. Okay, so maybe the deal she had made with her mother wasn't too bad after all.

Many of the activities Summer Camp offered made Hanako hope he would be able to skip it all by sinking back into his bed in the tent and sleep it all off. Capture the base? Physical activity was an instant no from him. That tour to London would have been interesting if he was a pureblood that would’ve gasped at a television. Ches would’ve hurt his brain and camp stories would make him fell 7 years younger. What was he? 5? Who still enjoyed stories that basically just recycled itself again and again? And Quidditch what? He still hasn’t had the pleasure of learning why the wizards of the wizarding community seems to be obsessed with that game. Crafting and stargazing was one of the more bearable activities he was ready to admit. But BBQ was another story.

Despite having his usual companion Percival Rainwood to trail him like a blonde baby duck, he spared no hesitance in taking it upon himself to walk towards the BBQ station and get himself so stuffed that they’ll hopefully get a good stomach ache tomorrow morning. Perhaps one good enough to use as an excuse to stay in his tent all day. He was a growing boy and according to his brilliant grandmother,( whom he would listen to no matter what) growing boys meant more food. Full stop. He had no interest in arguing with her logic as it served him more benefits then whatever would happen if he questioned it. Meat was just a lovely gift sent down from the earth to drown in invisible swirls of pure pleasure as the food source melts in your mouth and when chewed the taste enhanced as it fall-

Oh, he couldn’t think properly any longer. He needed some meat now before he’ll start hallucinating. What can he say, he just loved meat! This was one thing about him that he was willing to share information about- as it was nearly impossible to hid his grinning face as he hovered over the various selection of meat in front of him. There was a particular one he obviously had his eye on. As if the world disappeared and there was only him and that sausage, the only thing between them being Hanako’s unusually public affection towards the sausage.

Without anything or anyone standing in his way, he reached out a certain piece of food with tongs ready to place the wondrous item on his plate and send to the teachers to cook later. His tongs were barely touching that certain sausage but it was obvious that in the Japanese’s eyes that he saw nothing else but this sausage.

"No, I'm fine, thank you, just..." Rose paused in her reply, "It caught me off guard," she explained.
Eyre invited her to sit, and she sat down in the shade of the tree next to him.
"No, I didn't go to the sleepover because..." Rose stopped herself. Was she really going to tell this guy she just met that at the time that the sleepover was happening she was super lonely and felt like going to a public-ish event would only rub that in and make her feel more alone? In that split-sexond of hesitation that she disguised as a short breath, she decided that unless Eyre asked her about it (in which case she would choose her wording carefully so he wouldn't feel bad for her), he didn't really need to know all the details about the why. "I just didn't go," she finished light-heartedly with a shrug. "I'm guessing you went, though?" she followed up, with a tilt of her head. He sure implied that he had gone, but maybe he didn't.
"Who are you tenting with?" she asked, trying to make conversation. She might not know anyone that he was tenting with, but maybe she would. Or maybe he was tenting by himself. A possible scenario, though unlikely.

Taken back slightly by his words, she stared at him. He... had noticed that? It was true that even when her hair was loose, she would have some sort of braid in it. It was usually in braid or a bun, sometimes a ponytail. But it was rarely very loose. She was confident - perhaps overconfident - enough to believe that people noticed her and paid attention to her but... to that level? And from him? Caradoc was not like her. Hjørdis paid a lot of attention to people's appearance. She observed the changes in them. Someone trying a new hairstyle or wearing a colour that they had not worn before were things she might notice but she did not expect him to.

Her eyes lowered slightly, looking absentmindedly towards air between the trio. There was an urge to fidget that she pushed down, resisting to the best of her ability. Instead, she settled for raising her glass to her lips and taking a sip. She said nothing, unsure of what to actually respond with that. Perhaps a thank you. Yes. That would have been wise. But the conversation had already moved on by then.

Caradoc did not take a burger. She quirked an eyebrow at him, slightly confused why he asked for one and then claimed not to be hungry. His response to her look was the second time she was taken back. He was... apologising? She had been joking. She was not actually irritated with him - perhaps she ought to have clarified. Perhaps her joke was in poor taste. Right. She should rectify this and explain that. In a quiet voice, "You don't have to apologise, it wa-" Oh. He was leaving. Right. Her silverish blue eyes stared at him as he made a dash back to the grill. Right. She was a bit late. Whoops. Perhaps she ought to have spoken louder. Her quiet tone was likely downed out by the noise around them. But perhaps he heard. She had no idea. Right. Well...

That was awkward.

She swallowed, looking around. Spotting a bench not too far away, she opted to just sit down and eat her food. Now that the burgers were actually hers to eat, she could eat them in peace. "Please don't choke on that..." Hjørdis added, back in her usual tone of voice as she glanced over to Meenauh who had been stuffing her face far too quickly. Chewing was good. It helped prevent having practice her muggle CPR skills and try a heimlich maneuver. Gosh, it had been a good while since she had required to try muggle first aid. Now was probably not the best time to test that memory.

"I do apologise for dragging you into... whatever that was..." She continued, not entirely sure what exactly that was. Did he really feel that bad about his comment or her joke that he felt the need to come over just to apologise? That... What? Perhaps it was the topic itself, given his family situation. Hjørdis had no idea, there had not really been a chance to verify.

She placed the drink down on the arm of the bench and started eating her burger, falling silent as she thought on the matter. Her gaze flickered to Caradoc, feeling kind of bad for bringing up such a sensitive subject - even if it had been a joke. Right. Well. Whoops. She sighed softly. Too late to worry about it now. Her free hand moved to brush some hair off her face, tucking it behind her ear. She smacked her lips together before continuing to eat the burger.
