Duel Beta Match 9 - Hugh vs. Nico Finished

Welcome everyone to the ninth match of our Duelling Beta Test!

A new Duelling System has been in the making for some time now, and starting today we are finally able to show you what the team has been working on. Places as testers have been offered to the top students of the month of May, of which so far all have taken to the task with great enthusiasm.

We will be playing the test duels with the new 6 Stat System, as some of you may already be aware of. This is a First Year test match, putting the participant's stats to either 30 or 35 points depending on whether the duelists choose to be a special race or not. A minimum of 1 point in Stamina is required, and the maximum amount of points in a single stat is limited to 10. Abilities are not yet included in this test.

Your duellists today are @Hugh Lowe from House Gryffindor and @Nico Shymane from House Slytherin. Please give a hearty round of applause to them. This match will be moderated by myself, Hjørdis Jensen.

THE DUELLING STATS
THE STATS EXPLAINED
For these tests, we will be testing out a new 6 stat system. Please read the details below to understand them.

Stamina: This stat determines a player’s durability. In duels, this will determine a combatants health. This is your health points in a duel.

Evasion: The stat determines a player’s ability to physically react and move quickly. In duels this will determine a combatants chance to dodge an incoming spell. This will help you dodge incoming spells.

Strength: This stat determines a player’s physical ability to hold or lift. This stat is unlikely to be used in duels as the rules don’t allow for physical contact between duellers. This is not currently used in duels.

Wisdom: This determines a player’s skill at spell-casting, accounting for things like correct incantation and wand movement in a duel. This will determine casting success. This will help you successfully cast the spell in the first place.

Arcane Power: A measurement of magical potency. This will determine spell damage. This will determine how much damage your spell does.

Accuracy: A stat which will determine a spell’s chance to make contact with an opponent. This will help you to hit your opponent.

Nervously, Nico got on the Duelling platform. After being in the top three of most points this month, she got a chance to help them out with trying out this new way of fighting. Nico sighed and scratched the back of her head before moving some strains of hair behind her ear. Hopefully she'll be able to stand her ground and concentrate.

However, this duel was gonna be rather fun. She'd be fighting her long time friend, Hugh. They did say they had to hang out some more and well... This was meant to be! As soon as Hugh would step on the platform, Nico would wave rather enthusiastically before returning to her more serious and introverted posture.

The tall boy would slowly make his way onto the stage. Recognising both his slytherin friend across the podium and the friendly professor with the cake and white hair. He'd smile a bit nervously, not able to keep his cool and offer a smirk as he would usually do. Dueling did not feel like his thing at all. In fact, he felt this was the last place he should be. Barely any of his spells had worked in classes and at best he'd send his wand flying towards Nico.

He noticed the pale and red girl waving with eagerness and he returned it in his own shy way. Maybe he would be lucky. Who knows?

The Round

Hjørdis stood silently in the room. This was perhaps one of her favourite duties that she had. Watching children duel was not the fun part. It was always a concern that they would accidentally hurt themselves or their opponent more than they intended. However, she truly believed that this was one of the most important things to teach the children. Allowing them to practice their spells in a safe environment, where they could be healed immediately, was very important for their future. It would help them in the face of danger.

She watched a duel end safely, waiting for the students to sit down. Next up were two names that she recognised immediately on the list. "Miss Shymane, Mister Lowe. Please take your place on either side of the platform," She instructed, calling one of the Slytherin Prefects to the stage as well as a boy who she had fed cake once.

"I expect nothing but a clean, fair fight from you both. If you are not aware of the duelling rules, then please take a seat immediately." She waited for a moment. If they were not aware of the rules, then they should not be duelling in the first place. Hjørdis waited for them to bow to each other before stepping away from the platform, "You may begin." She instructed when they looked ready.

"VERDIMILLIOUS!" The boy's voice would rumble through the room as he tried to mildly distract Nico, just to buy him some time. He was not great with wands. Even casting a spell like Lumos was a mess with him. He had taken no time to hesitate as he knew he was to move quickly against her. Nico was without a doubt quicker and more agile than the tall and slumbering boy.

He was feeling like a knight already. His imagination getting the better of him as he lashed out with his wand. Clearly seeing it as a sword that flickered through the room with one giant swing.

'WHOA!' Nico took a slight step back by surprise. Hugh wasn't going to hold back. That she knew by now. She wasn't going to hold back either. Swiftly pulling out her wand she aimed at his direction. Hugh stood tall and was rather big for a kid of his age, she should be able to hit him if she aimed well enough through the green sparks.

The Round

Hjørdis watched the brave Gryffindor do what all Gryffindors do best - charge in recklessly. She quirked an eyebrow at his actions. He seemed to fit the stereotype well. Nonetheless, his actions did not pay off. Nothing happened. The Slytherin that he aimed at was taken by surprise. Luckily, she did not need to be. The promised Green Sparks did not work. She did not wait for a rebuttal. She threw the tickling charm at him. It worked. 

Well... at least she successfully cast it. Unfortunately, her aim was off. His plan to catch her off guard must have worked, her accuracy was so far off that Hjørdis almost had to pull another student, who was innocently watching the duel, out of the way. Welp. She was quick but Hugh managed to evade it with ease. He ducked to the side. It may have been a mistake or a fluke. Did he trip? Hjørdis was suddenly intrigued by the match. There were a few things she wanted to see... 

With both duellists in full health, the Head of House stood silently and continued to observe their actions. She was curious to see what they'd do next.

'I-I'm sorry!' She nodded her head quickly in a small bow as she apologised. Her aim seemed to be more off than she had intended and nearly hurt a spectating student when doing so. That's the last thing she'd want to do.

Nico straightened her back and locked her eyes on Hugh. This time.. This time for sure. Taking a deep breath she swiftly pulled up her wand again, aiming at the Gryffindor.

Aaaaaaand there was it. he knew this was going to happen. The wand never worked. It was literally Lumos all over again. Except now he was seconds away from being blasted back with a bloody tickling charm. He did not want to be tickled! he tried thinking of something else if the sparks wouldn't work. Though even now his wand was seemingly still fizzling a little. As if it was still trying to get the spell out of there. hugh shook it off and got ready for more.

"UHHH... uhm... Bullarum Immortalem!"

The Round

Hjørdis silently watched, making a mental note that this was exactly why the students needed to duel. It was good practice for them. Nico tried the same spell again. It almost worked as well. She fired it towards Hugh but he narrowly dodged it - or perhaps she narrowly misfired it. Either way, he was not hit by the tickling charm again.

The Gryffindor started to catch up too. He successfully cast the spell this time, opting for the bubble producing spell. Hjørdis blinked as he completely misfired the spell. Dodging Nico's attack threw his own aim off, it seemed. His spell aimed to the side and started to fill up the ground, below the platform. 

She mentally sighed but her expression remained blank. She expected this much. At least he was casting now, that was good. With a wave of her hand, she cast the counter spell on the bubbles that had been produced and made them disappear entirely. It was not an issue, she just did not want to have to clean it up later. 

As she did not say anything, the students were free to continue their duel. In fact, she seemed rather unfazed by all of the misfired spells.
