An Unexpected Encounter
Reducio
This RPG takes place before the summer holidays have started and thus it does not conform to “real time”. I hope that is okay! If not, please be so kind to send me an owl and let me know so I can amend it.
It was a comfortably warm afternoon as Shawn spontaneously decided to take a stroll through the castle.
Although he had already been here for one whole year, he still had not been to every part of the building yet.
As he blindly went wherever his feet took him, he could not help but wonder which secrets still lurked in dark corners or which mysterious rooms he might find at the end of abandoned corridors.
This time, he was hoping to stumble over a hidden pathway which would lead him to Hogsmeade, for example. He had heard about this secret underground network from other students and he was curious to find out whether it really existed.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a grand doorway which he had not seen before.
Although this did not seem to him as an entry to a hidden shortcut to one of his favourite places, he still wanted to know what lay behind these vast wodden doors.
As he got closer, he realised that there was a tiny crack between the doors which let a beaming ray of light through.
Excitedly, he peaked through it, but all he could spot were marble floors, walls full of paintings and a high ceiling which seemed to reach for the sky.
His hand reached for the doorknob and he opened it slowly, careful to not make any noise.
A “wow” went over his lips as he stood there, absolutely stunned by what lay before him. The room was flooded with light which came in from the windows on each side of the room and got reflected on at least a dozen crystal chandeliers which hung from the ceiling.
However, apart from that, the room was rather empty. Some tables and seats were cramped into one far corner of the room and a band seemed to have left their musical instruments in another.
Shawn squinted his eyes together as to see better.
Was there really...? Could it be...?
A tiny smile played across his lips as he walked closer.
Yes, it was.
Right in front of him stood a beautifully dark piano. A layer of dust stopped it from shining but the young student could still make out that it was intact and in best condition.
As he admired the instrument with a soft expression on his face, his fingertips gently touched the cold material before he bent down and wiped a bit of grey dust from the seat.
Then, he sat down and started to play the first tune that came to his mind.
A wonderful melody filled the silent room with blooming warmth and it seemed as if the flowers outside on the windowsill started swaying to the music.
He had not played in so long.
Oh, how he had missed it.
