Meenauh was walking through the corridors with the two boys behind her. As they reached the ballroom doors, she smiled as she was remembering the show Nico made for the boys. She had no knowledge of whether the boys had the talk about their ritual, but she couldn't care less. The boys would be carrying a bucket of water in one hand and large pieces of cloth in the other.

As they entered the ballroom, the whole floor was already dreaming about being crystal clean and shining. She walked through the whole room until reaching the opposite to the entrance wall.

"You can start from here and go right to the doors. Put that piece of cloth into the water, soak it well and start cleaning the floor. It should be shining and you should see your own image in it," she was pointing at the objects in their hands as she was narrating their goals, "As you already noticed, you will not have your wands with you", she announced as she had already exchanged them for the bucket and the piece of cloth earlier, "as most of the detentions are served the muggle way. I hope you'll enjoy it as the manual labour disciplines the soul and strengthens the character," she pondered a bit over that, "at least muggles seem to believe that."

She turned around and waved at them while making her way out of the ballroom with a Colloportus sent into the door behind her back.

After the embarrassing capture of Euphaustus and himself mid-demon summoning, Flash had received no end to chiding remarks and playful ribbing. That, as well as the unmitigated shock that he received from the more mischievous side of Miss Nico, seemed like punishment enough to him. That wasn’t how the Gryffindor prefect saw it however, more than happy to commit the two to a good hour or more of manual labor (depending on how much Euphaustus intended on contributing to the workload.) It was the lasting effect that this would have on his reputation, not the labor itself, which left him in a horrible mood as he heard the lock of the door behind her as she left. He hated being locked into rooms. Even one as massive as the ballroom, the light of the day filtering in through the tall, dusty windows, suddenly felt a bit more suffocating.

It was fine, cleaning was a good way to work off stress. At least that was something he had been told, he had never had to clean a room, really. He knew sweeping and mopping was generally involved. Chemicals, it seems, washrags and brushes. It wasn’t as though he never saw the household staff cleaning around the mansion, but he also never thought to ask about the process, it didn’t seem terribly important to his education. At least Miss Meenauh had actually given him useful instruction. Apparently he was to use water and a rag to clean the whole floor. It seemed terribly impractical, even with cleaning magic aside.

It seemed the intent was to give them time to think about what they had done. The prefect could not possibly know just how long Flash had given it thought already. He should have made sure the door was secure, he shouldn’t have talked and laughed so freely. Of course he would be caught, having let down his guard so much. Perhaps it was all the times he hadn't been caught that made him so bold. A childish mistake. One he would pay for, at that very moment, by scrubbing the floors.

Without saying anything to his companion, he got to work. The quicker he started, the quicker it would be over. At least he had done manual labor before, but that didn’t mean it wouldn’t still be incredibly tedious.

He, of course, had seriously underestimated the time it would take. This was a punishment with the intention of imparting the severity of the crime they had been caught for. It hadn’t completely been unheard by Flash during the opening ceremony, that sneaking out after curfew was a serious offense. The task seemed to say ‘we aren’t kidding, this is us going easy on you.’ At least they hadn’t done something too cruel or strange. Magic still had a lasting sort of fear of the unknown to him. He feared being turned into an inanimate object, or having his thoughts read openly. The capabilities that magic had were often terrifying to the first year, enough so that he avoided looking into anything about the Dark Arts. He was nervous just thinking of the things he would learn from its study, the things he could expect other people to do to him. It would make him paranoid, it would make him feel compelled to learn it as well, if only to know what to expect.

Those kinds of thoughts were the ones tumbling idly through Flash’s head as he cleaned. Making the floor clean enough to see oneself in it was perhaps meant to be hyperbole on the prefect’s part, because it seemed impossible. At least with a rag and water, where were the carts of chemicals and waxes? There was a large closet in the housekeeper’s home that was always stocked floor to ceiling in cleaning supplies and all kinds of machines. Certainly even the house elves didn’t have to try to accomplish such a herculean task with a rag.

Given Flash’s innate perfectionism, he hated to leave it in a state that could be seen as a partially done job. It was his reputation on the line, with a prefect no less, so he had to make sure there would be no room for complaint or derision. He made sure to get into the tiniest crack in the corners, went back and re-cleaned areas that seemed to have any streakiness from the water being too dirty. In time, Flash’s focus kicked on, and he took the condition of the ballroom floor as a matter of personal pride. Directing Euphaustus to specific tasks and informing him of cleaning knowledge as he learned it over time, Flash began to give the beaten up floor a shining sense of renewal. In a way, seeing the progress over time was indeed rewarding.

Not that he would ever volunteer for the task again. The message had been delivered, whether it had been the one intended by Miss Meenauh or not. Don’t get caught.

OOC: I hope it's alright I posted one after the other, since I'm not sure Euphaustus intends to come back to the site or not. If not, please owl me and I can change the format.

Maybe if Euphaustus stopped foreseeing what he was going to have for dinner instead of stirring away from danger, then that way he would save himself (and those around him) a lot of trouble. Not that he had any willing control over his powers, of course, but the dreams he dreamt were weird - sooner or later, they turned out to be real events he had to face in life. Except for this one, he could swear that the little, totally-not-dangerous-at-all-summoning that his friend and he were going to perform was going to run smooth.

A grumpy glare fueled his eyes with passionate, childish hatred towards the prefect who had caught them. Rosy red cheeks sustained with both exhaustion (even if he hadn’t started doing anything yet) and plain anger. He couldn’t wait till this was over with. He didn’t even have the chance to eat properly! Totally outrageous how school rules worked in Hogwarts. A famished stomach and a tired mind resulted in disaster, so if anyone thought that Euphaustus was going to contribute with his best of abilities, they were wrong!

He couldn’t help but talk to himself, complain, rant. He didn’t realize it, but fellow troublemaker Flash was possibly hearing him. Euphaustus wasn’t much of a quiet talker, to be frankly honest.
“Stupid detention, chores! Clean?! Baffled be me! I’d rather pick a giant’s nose with my bare hands rather than do this! Couldn’t the elves handle it?! Isn’t that what they were meant to do?” He gestured with his hands aggressively, the piece of cloth in his hands flying from one side to the other. If it was possible, steam would be blowing off from the Hufflepuff’s ears.
“Not even my mother makes me do any of this!”
Which was mostly true, because as long as he stayed quiet and didn’t stir up any trouble, Nina Boppity would rather not have her imp-like son around her legs. He’s much more of a burden than a helper.

Another thing that weighed the boy down, and probably the most important part of the plan’s downfall, was the eerie dynamic set between the two students. There was utter silence between them, and although Euphaustus couldn’t particularly blame him, he still worried about the possibility of having this freshly flowered acquaintance dissolved in the matter of a few nights. A sad pout sat on Euph’s face depressingly. Everything he hated - losing friends in particular - was becoming reality. It seemed like no one wanted to play with Euphaustus anymore. He’d be getting them in trouble; danger. But he really just wanted friends to pick flowers with, read fairytales together and just sneak out late at night once a month. He was so ashamed that making the first move felt like a stupid action, so he stayed quiet once he finished rambling and stood there doing nothing.

After what felt like hours of scrubbing and wiping, the cobblestone floors started to shine and gleam. But only like two or three squares exactly did - Euphaustus still had a couple hundred to go. He yawned, groaned and whined like a three-year-old toddler screeching for his dinner. The boy had put no effort whatsoever in what he was meant to be doing - only if he did, he’d probably be done by now. Nonetheless, his shoulders felt like they were being spiked with a thousand needles at once. His wrists as if they had been set on fire and his knees cracked like an ocean being split in two.

Trying to keep himself some company, Euphaustus was joking around with his own self. From afar, it looked like he had just lost his will to live. He hadn’t, but he sure did look like a lunatic, talking to himself and whatnot. At one point he started to murmur the story about the lamb and the wolf, nothing sounded more calming after receiving detention than telling one-self a rather hollowing story. A tale from Beedle the Bard’s came to mind as well. Clearly, he was trying much harder to distract himself than complete the (stupid) task that was set for him.

It seemed like Flash was, at least, taking this seriously. It made Euph feel slightly bad at first - he didn’t want to have his summoning partner do all the work - but clearly he was not complaining, so… what harm could that do? Trying to take advantage of the Slytherin’s work, Euphaustus scrubbed the floor briefly, with one hand, and effortlessly. Then he tried to make a path for himself to clean precisely where Flash had already completed. He thought that maybe if he tried to clean the same spot his partner did, then he’d technically have accomplished just as much hard work. Euphaustus would have been a great Ravenclaw.

After five minutes or so of using his cloth, barely brushing it against the floor, the boy stood up and stretched up his arms. His back cracked and his shoulders relieved a thousand brick stones off of it.
“Woo,” he released a heavy breath, tilting his head to the side as if he was the most hardworking boy in the room.
“Well, if there’s one thing I learned from this,” one would at the very least expect for him to say anything along the lines of ‘not to ever get in trouble again,’ but instead he proceeded to speak his own mind, as always.
“Is that cleaning is boring and I’m never going to do it again. I’d rather eat fresh ectoplasm.”
