Practice makes perfect, which is why Wyatt spent his nights in the ballroom instead of supper in the Great Hall. Being used to one meal a day, eating two and skipping the last one wasn't torture. He would take his guitar or bass down to the ballroom and practice until curfew. He didn't like the piano very much, but he still practiced on the one they kept in the ballroom simply because his mother insisted he did. He didn't know what to start with one particular evening and tried openings for different songs on his acoustic guitar. He tried the openings for a few songs before getting to Julia, by The Beatles. He played the first bit of the song without singing to it a few times to get it just right, then he finally started softly singing.

"Half of what I say is meaningless
But I say it just to reach you, Julia

Julia, Julia, ocean child, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia
Julia, seashell eyes, windy smile, calls me
So I sing a song of love, Julia"

The song was calming him, as it was a very mellow song. He sighed and continued.

"Her hair of floating sky is shimmering, glimmering
In the sun...."

Wyatt paused as he noticed a silhouette in the corner of the room.
He swallowed, he only practiced alone, and always hated audiences.

"Hello?"

Caitlyn hummed a small tune as she walked upstairs to the ballroom. Considering the fact that she did, indeed, have too much lunch, she decided today that there was no need for a third meal. And, anyway, she had a lot of work to get done. Before Hogwarts, her violin was a popular resting place for dust, but now, in her free time, she could practise her skills. As she walked up the moving stairs, her humming turned into quiet singing. The muggle song "We'll Meet Again" barely echoed around the large room as she put one foot in front of the other. As she went higher and higher, she began to hear the sounds of a guitar's strings being strummed. She stood there for a moment, listening to the song. "The Beatles?" she said to herself, before continuing to climb the stairs, which was surprisingly tedious work. She hadn't expected moving stairs, so she had to hold onto the side when they moved, which turned out to be quite often. But, finally, she got to the second floor. The sound of the song kept getting louder and louder, now with the addition of a soft singing voice. It was soothing, so she stood there for a few seconds more, before shaking her head and continuing on. As she got to the ballroom entrance, she realised where the music was coming from. A Slytherin, it was easy to tell, stood in the room while playing his guitar. Caitlyn stood there for a moment, when the boy turned around. "Hello?" he called out to her, looking a bit bewildered at her sudden appearance. She sighed, feeling guilty that she had put the boy off, before taking a step inside."Sorry for interrupting your song, I just came up here to play some violin." she spoke, before adding, "Nevermind, I'll just practise another time. Bye." She waved her arm sheepishly as she turned to leave.

Well, he definitely wasn’t expecting anyone at this time, and he certainly wasn’t expecting a violin. As he learned more and more instruments, his music teacher tried to teach him the violin, but he showed no interest and had no talent so eventually, she gave up.
He didn’t like being watched in general, but being watched while he was so vulnerable made him more than uncomfortable. Not many people had heard his singing voice, not even his own mother, but he felt bad for the way the girl shyly walked off. He decided to call after her.

“No! You don’t need to go.” He didn’t want her to have to leave, music was so important to him, she could have the same feeling. Who was he to deny her time to practice. He wondered how this would work, two people working at once. Would they have to play on different sides of the room? They’d hear each other… then he remembered- duets exist. He thought of all the songs that feature both guitar and violin. Then it came to him.

“Uhm... Do you know ‘Yesterday’?” He gestured to the violin the Ravenclaw (judging by her robes) was holding. He hoped she knew it, he didn’t want to leave, and he didn’t want to feel like he kicked someone out either.

She was just about to have turned the corner to go to her common room when the boy suddenly exclaimed, "No!" Caitlyn looked back at him as he continued. "You don't need to go. She turned back to face him, still just a bit outside the doorway. "Are you sure?" she asked, but he didn't return an answer. He seemed to be thinking about something, but whatever that thing was Caitlyn had no clue about. After a few moments of silence, he said, "Do you know 'Yesterday'?" He then gestured at her violin case, and Caitlyn understood why. "Of course I do," she smiled, before getting herself prepared. Gently, she got out her violin before silently checking the strings. One was replaced before she went onto the bow's hair, which was in good condition. She then continued on to tune the instrument before resting the violin on her shoulder. "By the way," she looked at the Slytherin. "What's your name?" She waited a few moments, before going back into the memories of listening to 'The Beatles' songs. Yes, she definitely remembered 'Yesterday'. While not her all-time favourite of the bunch, it was still a good song. She was very sure she could still play the violin, but just in case, she had a quick go. It sounded moderately good, but could definitely use a bit of work. Caitlyn looked back at the Slytherin. "Ready?" she said as she turned her attention to her violin, ready to play.

"Of course I do," she smiled and checked the violin, preparing to play. Wyatt couldn't bring himself to return her smile. He’d never played with anyone before, and he hoped he wouldn’t totally bomb it. Tuning her instrument, she looked over and asked for his name.

“Wyatt.” He said, “You are?”

She didn’t reply, and instead said, "Ready?"
Wyatt smirked. I guess formalities will have to wait.

“Yes.” He took a deep breath, exhaled, and began to play

"Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly"

He smiled as he sang when the violin came in, in the second verse. No, it wasn't his favourite Beatles song, but it was still a very good one. Pleasing to the ears, fun to play, fun to sing. Wyatt felt himself get lost in the song, he felt comfort and warmth that he hadn't felt in years. He knew it was an odd feeling to have while singing a song about lost love, but it was a feeling he couldn't deny he had.

"Why she had to go
I don't know, she wouldn't say
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday

Yesterday love was such an easy game to play
Now I need a place to hide away
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Why'd she have to go
I don't know, she wouldn't say
I said something wrong
Now I long for yesterday"

After the song ended, he waited a moment before saying, "You're quite good."
He had a small smile on his face.
He spoke again, "You should choose the next song... if you want there to be one, anyway."

While she did realise that she hadn't properly introduced herself, let alone given her name, Caitlyn found herself quite thrilled to find someone else who could play some of the songs she could. As she waited for her part in the song to come, she watched Wyatt's fingers go up and down the neck of his guitar, pressing down on parts of the strings to play a unique note. She found herself about to dive into the history of muggle music, but she stopped herself as the violin part was about to begin. She looked at Wyatt, determination glittering in her eye as she began to play her violin. The music coming from just the two of them sounded quite amazing, even to Caitlyn's slightly perfectionistic ears. She enjoyed herself as Wyatt emersed his mind into the song, her joy causing her to use more and more energy each line. Even if it did get a bit tiring after a while, it was still an absolute delight to be playing. And just like as nicely as it started, it ended. Caitlyn took heavy breaths in and out before returning to a calm state. "You're quite good," the Slytherin smiled slightly after a few moments of silence between them. Caitlyn felt a bit flustered for a moment, before replying, "Oh, well...thanks!" Wyatt continued, "You should choose the next song," He paused for a moment then said, "If you want there to be one, anyway." Caitlyn smiled at him. "Well, I do have another song. And you'll definitely know it if you are a fan of The Beatles," She paused for dramatic effect, before going on with, "Hey Jude." Before an objection could be made about the violin not being used, though, Caitlyn suggested that she used the violin version of some parts in the song so that her instrument could fit in. She got her violin back over her shoulder, ready in performance mode, before quickly saying, "By the way, I'm Caitlyn," and then asking him if he was ready, her attention focussed onto her violin like last time.

"Well, I do have another song. And you'll definitely know it if you are a fan of The Beatles," The girl paused for a moment, then said, "Hey Jude."
Wyatt thought for a moment, he didn’t know how he’d translate the piano-centric song to guitar. He looked around the room and saw the piano not too far away from where he stood. He walked over and sat down and practiced the chords and humming the vocals for a moment. The girl said "By the way, I'm Caitlyn," and Wyatt replied, “Nice to meet you.”

“Ready?”

After a pause, Wyatt began.
"Hey Jude,
don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better

Hey, Jude,
don't be afraid
You were made to go out and get her
The minute you let her under your skin
Then you begin to make it better"

Wyatt smiled, he wasn't exactly surprised that the Ravenclaw knew what to add in the song without it sounding stupid. She was obviously very talented. It sounded beautiful, the piano and the violin. He found himself starting to actually appreciate the piano as something more than an instrument his mother made him play.

"And anytime you feel the pain,
Hey, Jude, refrain
Don't carry the world upon your shoulders
For well you know that it's a fool
Who plays it cool
By making his world a little colder

Nah nah nah nah, nah nah nah nah...

Hey, Jude, don't let me down
You have found her, now go and get her
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you can start to make it better"

Wyatt closed his eyes, enjoying the music. It felt like a dream, playing with another person was a lot cooler than he thought it would be.

”So let it out and let it in,
Hey, Jude, begin
You're waiting for someone to perform with
And don't you know that it's just you,
Hey, Jude, you'll do
The movement you need is on your shoulder

Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah nah yeah

Hey, Jude, don't make it bad
Take a sad song and make it better
Remember to let her under your skin
Then you'll begin to make it better, better, better, better, better... oh!

Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah, nah
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah, nah
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah, nah
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah nah, nah nah, nah, nah, nah nah, nah
Hey, Jude
Nah, nah, nah, nah nah, nah, nah...”

Wyatt stopped playing and smiled at Caitlyn.
"When did you start playing?"
