Neculai pulled at the edges of his sleeves. Nervousness had settled down on the Ravenclaw boy and he tried to get a grip on his self-control. To say that he was out of his comfort zone would be the least. Attending Hogwarts for nearly three years and every year they'd have a Ball. Yet, somehow Neculai had never found the courage to join in on the festivities as he mostly locked himself up in his dorm, surrounded by dozens of books that he lent out at the Library or flying over the Quidditch Pitch as he and his teammates held practice. As his house indicated, his love for books could only be topped by flying.

But not today, today his books wouldn't give him an answer on how these social events would go, and neither could he seek refuge on his broom. This time he was on the ground, dressed in a costume that his father had once worn. As a mask Neculai had chosen for a bat. According to muggle folklore Vampires could change into bats. Although not everyone on Hogwarts knew that the Romanian boy was partially vampire, he found it a bit freeing to openly suggest it.

Noticing that he wasn't overdressed and neither underdressed the Ravenclaw took comfort in that knowledge and a bit of self-esteem seemed to settle in. "Alright, Lazar! Let's find that date of yours!" Putting on his top hat he moved in the room and scarlet red eyes scanned the occupants.

Two times he almost approached two girls, yet always refrained to do just in time before embarrassing himself. Might not have been his brightest move to meet in a room where everybody wore masks. In the moment he was about to give up he noticed a blond girl in a blue dress. Neculai scraped his throat and moved towards the girl. "E-excuse me, Lizzie? Lizzie Everdine, is that you?" The Dhampir truly hoped he was talking to the right girl and wasn't making a grandiose fool out of himself.

Action André being André
(it works because it's true)
André had found just standing there. To be quite boring. He didn't mind it. He would just rather being doing.. Other things if he was going to waste his precious time on this. Make it at least somewhat entertaining or worth the while. Besides. Even André had nerves right now. It probably was because of the liveliness of it all. But nonetheless he wasn't just going to stand there and make of a fool of himself.[Like he'd seen many do thus far]

His eyes surveyed the area. At first just looking for his date[Nell Zoldak]. When he finally saw her he realized he had two options. Say hello. Maybe even in french because she'd understand the slightest bit of it. Or.. The twelve-year-old's eyes trailed off. His eyes had caught a girl with a very fairy-tale like sense of style[Lucia Fox]. She seemed to stand out a bit didn't she?Her and her.. friends? Or from what he could guess it was just a friendly first meeting with one of the girls.

Back to the case at hands. André best argument after this was, it was much easier to calm your nerves flirting with someone you've never met. Apposed to someone you've been writing to for a few months. Well, André certainly knew what he was picking. He was trying to think long term with this one. But certainly he'd realized this might upset his date..? It was only realistic thinking with this. But apparently not to André.

Straightening his posture, André wore confidence as he walked to the group of girls. A charming smile on his face. The one dumb blonde guys use that always seems to get the girls. Why? He'd been asking this himself for the longest time. What was so attractive about a smile? Or for the sake of everything sane. A hair colour? André rolled his eyes at the thought, again. As he finally made his way up to the girls.

By this point, he assumed he had their attention. And with this he decided to introduce himself. "Quel charma-"[What charmi-] André said, stopping. Must he mix them up? They all mostly mean the same, so it's not hard to mix up. Still. André took a moment to recover before speaking again."What lovely outfits you all have" He said. A simple conversation starter. Starting off with a plain compliment. Not off to a bad start. Or at least he hoped. "My name's André" He said, then looked at the three expectantly. "And you three are?" He asked raising a brow. Even a horribly gone wrong conversation was better than time wasted standing.

Besides. While he was at this, he'd be able to threat scale these three. It was useful in some form other than calming his nerves, it seemed.

“Are you suggesting you aren’t my date this evening?”
"Of course not," Paisley said playfully, and was surprised as Sarah cast her skillfully into a low dip. It was a hard move, at least in Paisley's limited experience with dancing, and she was surprised at how great the Slytherin was at it. Now that I think about it...Sarah is a wonderful dancer. "I don't think I've ever danced in a ballroom like this. You have, I can tell by how good you are at dancing." she observed.

"I'm glad I'm here with you too. I'm just thinking of what would've happened if I hadn't studied so much in the library that day...things would really be different, wouldn't they?" Paisley asked sincerely, and then laughed at hearing the punch bowl incident. "No one should insult house elves." she agreed, nodding. They were obviously smart enough to be able to feel, so why should they be treated so horribly? A serious expression crossed Paisley's face, but she didn't want to damped the mood with it. Thinking quickly, she turned Sarah into a hastily twirl, but fumbled at the end. She had tripped over one of her feet, because of the shoes she was wearing. She was able to turn it into a smooth bow, and laughed as she did so. Her hands were in Sarah's. They had stopped on the edge of the dance floor, near the other side of the room from where they had started.

These are terrible for dancing. It's barely been five minutes and my feet are already aching! without looking behind her, she kicked her shoes off and settled back into the position for dancing. "Those shoes hurt like nobody's business. Let's dance! she pulled the Slytherin into another, more successful spin, and realized how much easier it was to dance without her shoes.

Earl walked in the ballroom, his gray eyes widening as he tried to take in everything all at once. His heart was beating hard in his chest, a jittery excitement having taken our pygmy-puff-in-disguise over. He was beautiful tonight, having added different shades of red and orange to his hair for the occasion, making it seem as if the styled curls were made out of flames.

Despite the elegant sharply cut suit his mother had sent over and the half Windsor on his hufflepuff tie, Earl looked as young as ever. It was in his posture, the way he was standing in the middle of the doorway, eyes wide and lips slightly parted. You could see it in the silvery wand he’d placed behind his ear, tip poking out from between his curls.

There was an ornate silver mask which was covering maybe a quarter of his face, a loop around his right eye showing off his perfect eyeliner and those stunning gray eyes which had been known to disarm even the most stubborn with their innocence and joy.

After a few seconds spent awestruck, he moved away from the doors and onto the side, grinning widely at the sight of people munching on yummy food. A few of the older couples were twirling around already, dancing with their partners. His brother was on the other side of the ballroom, and after taking one look at him, the sort of up and down look which had the ability to make plants shrivel up there was so much hate in it, he turned away, looping his arm around the waist of his goth girlfriend. Earl paused, also sizing him up, biting his lip and tasting the clear cherry chapstick he’d put on a bit earlier.

Draven Mirador had all the reason in the world to be salty, especially considering how Earl had come into existence. The fact they went to the same school was such an unfortunate incident, that the hardcore emo looking boy had considered transferring to Drumstrang. The only reason he hadn’t already were a few issues regarding his use of magic earlier that year, and the strong relationships he’d forged at Hogwarts. He was sort of the third year king, edgy and fiercely protective of his friends, with a constant chip on his shoulder. Stuck up the way only those who came from wealthy pureblood families could be, and spitting at the feet of those he deemed below him. Ill-mannered unless he wanted to charm someone. He wasn’t trying particularly hard at that moment to charm anyone, glowering at anyone who looked in his direction, a snarl on his lips. A green haired boy was hovering beside him, looking tired to the point of collapse, his shaggy old brown suit a nearly hilarious contrast to Draven’s tuxedo, black with an emerald tie, sharply cut and probably worth more than Earl’s house. Our boy’s startling beauty clearly ran in the family, because Draven seemed to suck all the attention out of the room, directing it towards him in the very same way Earl did. Where the pink haired kid was light and joy, Draven was the night sky, mysterious and dangerous if one didn’t bring a candle.

Earl seemed to be stuck in place staring at his brother, mixed emotions running over his masked face. That was until he was pulled away by a group of Ravenclaw girls. He beamed at them, making smalltalking and asking a few of the wall flowers to dance.

And Earl dancing was a sight to be seen.

Elegant with a practiced grace, his movements flowing like mist over dark water. His hands were warm and eyes bright, a carefree grin on his face. He never got close enough to make the girls uncomfortable, and matched their vibes no matter what they put out. If they were shy and stumbled upon themselves, he had a hand on their lower back to steady them, and talked in a calm reassuring voice, the way you would when you were trying not to frighten a bunny, dimples showing as he complimented their hair and clothing, the perfume and makeup. If they were angry, he’d let them rant about their problems while they slow danced, if they were sad, he’d comfort them, tell them how amazing they were. Since everyone had cookies at this party, he’d brought actual cotton candy and maple fudge instead, keeping the ziplock bag full of sweets in the inside of his coat pocket, in case the need arose.

And now, dizzy from dancing so much and kind of hungry, he sat down at one of the tables, straight backed, hands in his lap as not to crumple up the suit, and started nibbling away at a piece of pumpkin pie, eating it slowly and savoring the taste with his eyes closed. It was good food. Rich and sweet, with a heavenly scent only to be topped by the freshly squeezed orange juice. Those looking closely at our young boy would have seen him ever so carefully lifting the pitcher up and tilting it towards his cup, afraid of staining the expensive suit.

It was a good night.

After finishing his pie, he turned around in his seat to watch the dancers, a brilliant smile on his face as he looked at the beautiful people.

Fashionably late, Sylvie was. She was fashionably late to this frivolous Masquerade Dance. As with most events that had taken place during this two-week adventure to the Scottish school, Sylvie was not quite on time. There were many different factors that played a role in why she decided to do this. For one, she wanted to make sure she had the perfect outfit and was well put together. Showing up to a masquerade dance without looking absolutely perfect was just unacceptable. Secondly, she knew that showing up fashionably late was what was expected when people hosted a party. This was why she stepped into the ballroom a few minutes after the dance had already started. She was surprised to see that there were already a fair amount of people crowding the dance floor, and everyone was decked out from head to toe.

Sylvie herself had not put minimal effort into her own outfit for the night. She had made sure to bring an elegant dress with her as well as a beautiful mask to accompany it. As she searched the dance floor looking for a familiar face, Sylvie did not see anyone. She knew that her brother was here somewhere with his girlfriend, Delphine but she didn't see the two of them. And as much as the other French girl got on her nerves, Sylvie was gracious enough to let the two of them have some alone time during this dance. The orchestra was playing music as the candles floated around the room, providing a nice ambiance to the room.

Sylvie spotted the food and drink table and quickly made a beeline for the refreshments. Perhaps she had made a mistake coming to this ball. After all, she was here alone. What was the point of her being here without a date or any purpose? She took a glass of water and watched the ball commence around her as she sipped. This mindset wasn't proper; she needed to figure out some sort of goal she could accomplish while at this ball. Maybe she could find someone who her family could benefit from interacting with or at least scare a few underclassmen. Perhaps she could find a poor soul who needed a companion for the dance and spend the night wooing them. Sylvie scanned the ballroom looking for a target.

As Howard entered the ballroom his eyes would be immediately drawn by the decor. The mix of gothic decorations and the raging autumn storm that was currently pounding away at the castle surely set the mood for the Halloween festivities. He didn’t have a knack for such things but he had to give credit to both the staff and students, they certainly knew how to put on extravagant events. It was of course all a huge waste of time and resources in his opinion. Time to host the bloody foreigners again! Let’s have a feast...and a ball...and a costume party! It was all way too posh for the street boy from Manchester, but he did have one good reason to be here. Falentra Black was somewhere amongst the crowd.

Not wanting to find his date with empty hands, Howard squeezed his way through the crowd and towards the concession table. It wouldn’t take him long to find the pumpkin juice, his personal favorite to go along with the slender potion vial full of fire whiskey that currently laid within his pocket. After filling two glasses he would set out to find Falentra.

The pair had not been dating long but they were rather keen to each other’s tendencies. It might’ve been hard for Howard to find her amongst the throng of the crowd but if he had to guess his best bet would be along the wall somewhere in a more secluded spot. Being careful not to spill the beverages he darted between the bodies and made his way to the far wall of the ballroom. Sure enough, it would not take him but a few moments to spot her. In typical fashion Falentra would have her eyes down and back against the wall as she picked at her nails.

“Hey Fal.” Howard called out to announce his presence before coming to stand before her. Leaning forward he would quickly kiss her cheek before stepping back to look her over. “You clean up pretty good, darling.” He said with a smile. It was far from romantic, but in their own way it was a fitting compliment for how lovely she looked this evening. Falentra was definitely more fashionable than him, but he had grown used to her casual style. Her choice of attire tonight was far from anything he had seen her wear before, but it complimented her very well. Howard would have to forcibly blink to tear his eyes away from her dress and back to her gaze.

“No, seriously, you look beautiful.” He followed his playful comment with a more serious tone. His eyes would drop to his own outfit as he hoped his choice was fitting for her. Howard definitely lacked within the wardrobe department, but he had saved up enough of his allowance to spring for a new suit this year. It wasn’t anything special. Just a simple black jacket and trousers and for his mask he had gone with a traditional phantom. In truth, he did look alright. Well, beside the messy floof of waves that he called a hair style. Perhaps one day he would learn to properly comb it, but for a teenager that had a trunk full of sweats and T-shirts, he had done his best.

“Oh. I got us drinks.” Howard held up the glasses of pumpkin juice, hoping she cared for it. Leaning forward he would whisper, “I brought a little whiskey too, if you’d care for a taste,” before taking up a spot on the wall beside her.

Logan leaned agains8t the wall staring at the people dancing in the hall. He knew most of the people there had been dancing for a long time so he decided not to compare himself with them.
Logan was not a patient person at all so he started getting jittery. He was about to go up the stairs to look for her but then she arrived.
She wore a simple cream colored sweater and a pink skirt which Logan found cute. He didn't even compare it to the other dresses but Logan didn't know anything about fashion so he had no other option.
"Miss Rosier. I just want to to say you look fabulous this evening."
Logan was determined to move out of his comfort zone and be a romantic person for this one night.
She kissed him and took him inside to dance. He noticed a couple people like, Henry Knight who had been his transfiguration tutor and a girl he had seen at the FEAFR meeting.
When they reached a nice spot on the dance floor, he faced her and said,
"Shall we?"
He put one hand on her waist and the other in her hand and then they began to dance.
His sister always subjected him to sappy movies where the girl meets her prince charming, blah, blah, blah and they fall in love. Logan always thought those movies were stupid so h6rsees r too e could imagine his sister giving him a smug look and saying, "Who's stupid now? "

He wasn't stepping on her feet and he wasn't stiff as a board. It was almost as if those dancing lesson had paid off! Maybe she was a really good instructor, or maybe he was a good student and fast learner. "Well, first he makes the broom racing team and now he's good at dancing," she smiled to him. "Congratulations, by the way, I don't think I have told you that yet."

It was a good fit for him after quidditch but she knew how difficult it could be to make the house team in Gryffindor. Gryffindor was full of those that were full of themselves and wanted to be idolized for their quidditch skills, whether they had them or not. Logan did, but he was just a First Year so she could see why they didn't even want to look his way. Their loss. Broom racing was a good second option for him and she was proud of him for making the team.

For her, she recently went with Dueling because it seemed more her speed...that and she didn't like brooms so well.

"So tell me, what would Malcom or Aila, or even Travis think about your dancing?"
she smiled to him. Maybe he wouldn't think so but she figured both of his siblings would be rather proud. His friend back home? Well, he might make a snide comment about the dancing but Alina had a feeling that if he saw Logan dancing like this, he would probably be rather amazed if he would be honest.

"And it's been awhile since I've seen you," she said, looking up to him as they moved, keeping her focus right on him. She felt he had grown a little distant lately but maybe that was just her thoughts getting away with her.

She looked up as a boy started talking to her. As he talked, he nearly tripped on himself, grazing his hand on the floating flame. Somehow, he didn't burn himself. Interesting... she thought.

"O-oh well um nice to meet you August...I'm Melissa," the ginger told him. "I have a date but he's, well, um late." It was really awkward since she didn't want to be there in the first place but now that she was here, she was getting asked out by another boy. Ugh why am I even here right now? I could've been doing productive stuff like studying- Turning her attention back to the boy, she said, "Ok look, so um I have to go-" When she finished, she started walking towards the door. Mel started to think about what she would do when she got back to her dorm. She would probably change into something more comfortable, like a hoodie and sweatpants. Then she would- Her thoughts suddenly stopped coming as she saw Marshal arriving. Oh-

The Masquerade ball. The Masquerade ball was here again. It wouldn't go well- it couldn't go well. It had to go well. Lamik Fillestar had gotten dressed slowly, taking deep and slow breaths the whole time. Moving quickly would make it hard to stay calm, and he needed to stay calm. No one could fight when they weren't calm when they weren't focused. And his mask? It couldn't be a joke like last year's. Someone wearing a joke couldn't intimidate an enemy. Lamik was getting into formal attire, yes, though as far as he was concerned it was something else. His mask, a helmet, and his suit, armor. Today was going to be a fighting day, whether he liked it or not.

At least that's what he kept telling himself, over and over again. After all, what other reason was there to be so nervous? Why would he be afraid of anything other than murderers and fires and horrible monsters? He was a member of Gryffindor, so he would be the one to fight while some others fled. He would be the one to fight to let others flee. It was a moment of uncharacteristic ego that led to that thought, one that existed in order to convince himself that the reason he was afraid wasn't really the reason he was afraid: his date. Lamik was 13 now, and quite frankly that age came with a whole lot of hormones and odd emotions. During the summer break, he had met a girl from Ilvermony named Iris who, unbeknownst to him, he was quickly captivated by. This was evident by the fact that when the ball was announced his first instinct was to write her a letter about it. He asked if she wanted to be his date, and she agreed, so he was nervous. What if he messed up? What if he looked stupid? He had gotten dressed slowly to look as neat and tidy as possible (though the boy couldn't get his hair to stay put. He had never tried before, so he had no idea how.) He chose a serious mask because he wanted her to take him seriously. To think of him as her date, not as a child. As he entered the Ballroom, unsurprised by the decoration (which was always stunning in Hogwarts), that's what he repeated to himself softly. "Date, not child, date, not child." It took a little bit but eventually he spotted who he assumed was her. "Iris!" He called out, taking a few steps towards the girl.
