Event The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

As she shot her spell into the fair nothingness to summon the doll, she heard her friend's lovely voice... Or in the circumstances of the noise around, she felt it. Her hand seemed to vibrate a bit once the doll was acquired by the spell and sent her way. Was there a clash of spells? Did the two wands connect? Was it possible? That was what she thought before she noticed the doll coming at her with something bigger this time. A huge weapon was drawn from nowhere. Was is a conjured weapon?

Her eyes widened in shock as the doll touched her hand and she involuntarily tried to evade the hit of the blade by stretching herself backwards. It was not enough and the blade hit her in the chest...

A second later, she was just standing there, coming out from a shock, and watching the poor doll trying to stab her with a fake dagger. Such a pitiful picture, if not funny.

"BURN IT!" cried one voice.
"CUT IT!" cried the second one.
"Calm it," the third voice that spent the most time resting in her head reasoned her to not have recourse to violence, while her mind was already switching from one spell to another.

"Immobulus!" she said calmly this time instead of her friend with her wand pointed, or maybe pierced through the thin fabric of the wriggling creature. Was it really it?!

Did Xailah really want to talk to it?
Action: after a very quick observation of the attempted murder, pierce the wand through the doll and immobilise it.

Kyle felt the "ticking" Finally ease from his body and he Rolled his shoulders and stretched out some eager to finally be free of it's grip. Sure he couldn't see but he knew where the Half Giant was amidst all the smoke, and when he threw the punch...he felt it connect. A few moments later there was the heavy sound of Quinn smashing into the flood boards and as the smoke wafted away once again leaving the air free breath he could see for the second time he managed to lay out the half giant with a single well placed punch. This was going to do wonders for the boy's self esteem and confidence. He was aware of the chaos around him, people yelling and casting spells, and this and that but he couldn't be bothered to pay attention to it, not yet. Once Quinn was Neutralized then he could take stock into his surroundings.

He then walked closer to where the Giant had fallen, and crossed his arms looking down at him. "How about you stay down? Quit trying to break girls bones and we can stop meeting like this Yeah?" Kyle was hoping to end things here and now before any more fighting or spells needed cast. They proved their points in his eyes, the big man was knocked flat and he was giving Quinn the chance to salvage his dignity and choose to stop fighting and accept defeat with grace. But, if he pushed the matter Kyle was willing to keep going and make the half-giant stay down if he had to.

Kyle shot a glance towards Erin now that he could see "Hey Starling, You ok?"

Her mind cloudy with panic of what ifs and what was yet to come, the dhampir tried to aim at the blonde. Yet Erin had learned to not stay still for too long. That was possibly her mistake last time Nico did manage to hit her. Letting out a frustrated grunt the redhead eyed down at her wand. Why didn't she flip her away from her beloved giant? She wanted to protect him so desperately.
Maybe it was the fog and the sounds of students exlaiming in surprise or horror around her that threw her off. This time though, it wasn't Erin who would land a succesful blow on Quinn.

It was Kyle.

Almost making her way over to Erin to hopefully get a better aim, Nico could hear a loud sound of something hitting tables and chairs. Next to her, the smoke would reside and there stood Kyle. His fist was still in the air. H-He? What... Who did he hit? Her gaze dropped from the raised first to the huge figure laying on the floor, limbs sprawled around him. 'Q-Quinn! Oh Merlin, Quinn!' The way he laid there, something about it looked... defeated. Exhausted. Was Quinn okey? If that noise earlier was her dearest hitting the floor because of a punch of Kyle... Who could ever hit a Part-Giant with such force... Making it look like it was so easy? The Gryffindor walked up to the close to being knocked-out Badger. For a moment Nico couldn't move. She felt so uncertain... Was he going to give him a finishing blow? Was he?

The dhampir couldn't hear the voice of the assaulter as she dashed over to her fallen hero. Her accessoires lightly jingling as she moved with quickness and grace. Dropping on her knees next to Quinn, letting her eyes dart over his body, not sure if he bled anywhere. She didn't smell anything so that should be okey then, right? H-He was... Her pale hands rested on his big hand before she slowely turned towards Kyle. Her iceblue hues, red tears already sliding down her ever pale cheeks. 'Wh-What the fuck is wrong with you?' Again with the cursing. It happened in utter times of despair. Of things she didn't understand. Why would they attack Quinn... ? Why?

'You attacked a Prefect! And an innocent student! Are you right in your fucking head?' Overcome by anger and confusion, red dots appeared in her iceblue eyes as she glared at Kyle. 'Can someone fucking explain themselves? I knew that Erin was strange, but to attack someone... To attack Quinn!?'

Emile felt a punch connect with his gut. Florian had looked slightly confused when the smaller male had argued back. Emile didn't know if his confidence was wavering, although that seemed unlikely, or what was going on. The taller male just looked really confused. Emile felt a little shocked in himself when he had finished off with that strong a word. He was not known for cursing or fighting, he often tried to avoid fighting. Especially with Florian.

Florian looked like he was having a mild stroke at the words coming out of Emile's mouth. But of course he had quickly recovered. Emile had barely had a chance to register what he said before a punch was thrown that hit him directly in the gut. He let out a loud cry of pain and doubled over. He stumbled backwards and gasped for air. Damn his diaphragm. He hated the feeling of drowning that had hit him along with that punch. His gasps turned quickly into sobs.

His tears from earlier had finally bubbled over. He had ruined his friendship with Earl and on top of that had now been punched. He was still bent over, arms around his mid-section, when tears started to flow. This was unfair. All he could do was stand there and watch his tears hit the floor. He did not want to look back up at his aggressor, the tears would just be one more thing for Florian to bring up over and over.

"I-I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have said those things. I am really really sorry Florian.", he sobbed out. He hated how he had to revert back to his weak self after feeling so inspired to fight back for once. He lifted his head up slightly, just enough that he could catch a glimpse of the taller boy, but not enough that Florian could see the full effects of his punch.

The moment Lucia re-entered the Ball, she looked around and tried to figure out what she'd missed.
It seemed like nothing had happened, appart from some wierd smoke cloud hanging around one corner and the noticeable drop in the number of dancers.
Oh, and the fight.
She neatly skirted around the two both whom she didn't recognise - thank Merlin, or she might have felt obligated to step in - and looked around for someone she did.

She didn't see anyone.
It looked like all of Lucia's friends had gone into the corridors, like responsible people, rather than chicken out. Which was what Lucia herself had done.

For a moment, the part-Veela considered trying to find André, the boy whom she, Scarlett and Lily had so unceremoniously abandoned to follow the ghost cat (because that had worked out perfectly) and talking to him for a bit. Another moment removed that option from her mind - she didn't want to explain how she'd let everyone else face Doom And Tragedy without her.

The next option was to just leave. Maybe she could go and find Briar - the younger girl would be glad of her company, Lucia was pretty sure. But then again... Hadn't she seen the librarian as they had passed the Costume Party? So was the library even open, or was Briar in her common-room? In which case, Lucia would just be left by herself in the Hufflepuff dorm rooms. And she hadn't seen Alina or Alexa all evening, so she who knew where they were.

Onto option three... Hang around by herself, looking like a loner.

Yeah, it looked like it was option three.

Stowing her wand safely away in her bag - Lucia didn't need it any more - and adjusting her mask, Lucia made her way to the dance area. Not the centre of it, oh no, but just the edge.

Wait.
How were you supposed to dance with a partner if you didn't even have one?
It was just as well that Lucia had grown up dancing by herself - Willow was too small for anything like this, and (as graceful as the Ravenclaw was) Briar didn't like dancing, and wasn't very good at it anyway.
Before she could really think about it, Lucia was holding her hands out as if holding an invisible partner, and was spinning away across the room, looking like a sad loner.

At least she was good at dancing.

Ileen gasped in indignation. The news that Dee had left made her forget her little accident in their collision which she would probably have been ashamed of otherwise. Although, she had encountered Zykeal in worse situations… She stood on her toes to look out for her friend, as successfully as she had searched for Erik. Although Ileen was tall for her age, she was still way shorter than many of the other students around her who were blocking her view. Quietly snarling and somewhat resigned she turned back to the Gryffindor. "Do you mean ‘ran off’ in the sense that she left the ball?" How dared Dee leave her alone with all these chaotes? Had she followed the ghost rider?

Ileen was far too busy with her own misery to be sensitive to Zykeal's words. Although this was usually her strength, in this case she couldn't tell if he was angry, sad or hurt, because she didn’t pay attention. Her brown eyes still glided over the crowd searching for the brunette hair, but no Dee anywhere around.
So, she turned to Zykeal with a smile after she reluctantly accepted that she would probably have to handle the situation without Dee. “Sorry about that. Good you fixed it.” She pointed at his sleeve and tilted her head to mirror his gesture as he had done it with her a few days ago. Then, she waved away his words about the time limit of his companionship. “Nonsense. There are many people around here. I lost my company as well, so…” She shrugged and gave him another smile. “And to be honest, loneliness is definitely preferable to the company of some people. And sure, why not. I’d love to dance, but I have to warn you: I’m only slightly better than Dee, so I hope you know what you are doing, because I only know the little my father taught me.” She spread her arms and got into dance position tilting her head backwards in an exaggerated manner to ease the situation and hide her nervousness. But dancing sounded good. And afterwards she would probably stop by the costume party.

Selim nodded shortly as Vladimir refused his offer for ice, then cocked a brow at the upperclassmen's next comment.

"You're less... twitchy, then I recall."

The comment made the raven laugh, it lacked humor, "Perhaps I've just learned how to better hide it." His chilling blue eyes flicked away as he watched the half-giant leave after Athanatos harshly hissed at him to leave his dancing partner alone. That causes him to shoot Vlad a mildly curious, but otherwise impassive look. Seems the Ravenclaw could be quite possessive.

"You yourself seem uneasy. Perhaps trying to keep an eye on your unreasonable enemies in school?" It was less of a question than a statement of fact. Selim could relate well with that. "Truly troublesome, does no one know that this dance is meant to build friendships, not end them?" He muttered more to himself as he scowled at the nearby brawl.

The girl spoke up, and he looked over, cocking his head one way as she asked a Valid question. He didn't dare answer though, as she was likely asking Athanatos, not him. Besides, this was a rather good chance to gauge Vladimir's relationship with their peers.

His gaze flicked back to where he saw Jack enter, and he watched the redhead carefully, idly letting his chopsticks dance between his fingers as he silently wished he had some sushi on him to use the utensils on. He often used the chopsticks more for his meals than actual weapons, not necessarily a bad thing.

Besides, it was harder to check utensils for poison rather than food.

Yes, Selim was that paranoid, shouldn't really be a surprise to most. Luckily he was slowly beginning to try and build up immunity to poison, perhaps he would reach that level in his third year.

"If you'd allow me, Athanatos, I'd rather take care of my dormmates if any come after you. I'd rather not allow them to act deplorable without me myself punishing them." He sighed. "Perhaps it would focus some of their ire on me instead of you, but that may just be the wishful thinking of a child."

He almost wished the school balls could be normal for once, and he scanned the room for anything suspicious while keeping one ear on the conversation he was partially participating in.

Tiresome indeed, he was glad Kioshi was safe in their dorm room.

Deciding she had waited quite long enough for her date to take an honest interest in: her or anything about her, dancing/the ball in general, or anything asides from chatting with his friends, Roberta marched off towards the doors, her face chock full of disappointment. Perhaps it was how her date managed to easily strike up a conversation with his classmates while not even bothering to introduce or invite her into the discussion. Perhaps it was how even after asking him to dance and pleading with him to show her off he had seemed uninterested in her idea of fun. The real reason she finally chose to ditch him was determined when he began talking about other girls in front of her. As if he hadn't even considered how she might take such slights. If he wasn't going to give her chance to impress him then she wouldn't be pleased with him either.

As she approached the doors to the corridors outside, Roberta thought for a moment that she could turn back around and scan the crowd for someone who looked lonely, or maybe just someone who had nobody to dance with. It was after all a masquerade ball, any number of people might have wanted to dance with her. For all she knew, she might even have her pick of partner on the dance floor with little to no repercussions. After all, she would depart from Hogwarts after a short while and if she chose not to share who she was during their dance together then she was completely within her rights to do so. None would be any wiser for her coming or going. Still it was a foreign lobby of children mingling and she felt out of place. For all of her etiquette and friendliness she was still just another single person, a third wheel.

"Alas," she said as she confidently grabbed for the handle to make her exit. Nothing but lost hope to console her now, it was too soon to think about letting go of her feelings. It was too soon after her dramatic heartbreak to dance again. Unless, of course, someone who was just as alone as she was came along and wanted to dance with her.

As she opened the door to leave, a boy who was not prince charming but handsome all the same stood just opposite of her as if he were contemplating even entering the ball. His casual ball attire actually matched the dress she had worn better than her own date's getup. The dress she wore was picked by out by her friends, as the young "Abeille" had more sense for swords than fashion. She laughed fiercely for a moment, and she laughed as a lion would laugh witnessing a mouse stealing a bit of cheese from under its nose, but just as quickly remembered her manners and cut the laugh short.

"Pardon me," she said hoping to excuse her outburst of laughter, "it's just that, I stood opposite of the door convinced it was time for me to leave the party and you seem.... Well I suppose what you seem like doesn't matter much at all." She shrugged, the way a warrior does when they are confused by an obstacle to their triumph. She did not see a girl or boy attached to his arm, so she thought it keen of herself to ask. "Did you come without a date or are you waiting for someone?" Her confident smile returning and still partly visible behind her mask. "Either way, come in out of the hallway before someone else sees you and thinks you are a dork."

Lamik took a few moments to look around at the other attendees of the ball. After ensuring that none of them were demonic creatures or murderous lunatics he turned back to Iris. Suddenly, Lamik realized that her hand was still in his, and he quickly let it go with a bit of a startled gasp. "Uh- sorry." He muttered. It was a redundant apology, especially considering the dance that they were about to... well... dance. Trying to mask his inability to think of anything of importance to say the boy took a step towards her. It's now or never, I guess...

The Gryffindor tried his best to remember how he saw people doing it in the movies. Unfortunately, he couldn't remember for the life of him the fancy classical dances that old people liked. Something about holding hands to the side and stepping forwards and backward. There was another option though- but it seemed a bit more... intimate. Oh well. A date was a date, wasn't it? Standing as close as he could bring himself to stand to Iris, Lamik raised his hands and meekly placed them on her hips. "Is this ok...?" He asked hesitantly. It was definitely ok for him. The closeness was, for a lack of a better word, nice. Especially with someone who made him feel the way that Iris did.

Why did everyone seem to think that Hogwarts was dangerous. First, Lazarus Plott, who was barely ever serious at all, had warned them about the danger of Hogwarts. And, then, Jess told them to be careful! These people had more knowledge about Hogwarts but why was Hogwarts dangerous? It made Drew a little worried. But, if anything happened, he would protect Akari and everything would be okay.

The Masquerade Ball was much spookier than the costume party had been. And there were more people here, too. Drew led Akari into the Ballroom, stopping to marvel at the decorations of the room. It was truly a great effort on the students who had prepared it.

He looked around for Greg and Elisabeth. They didn't seem to be here, as far as he could tell, but then again, Drew wasn't super observant. Maybe they were out having fun some other place? Maybe... maybe there was some romance between the two that Drew hadn't picked up on?

Either way, Drew had come here to dance with Akari. If she didn't want to, that was fine, too, but he turned to her and said, "I don't see Greg or Elisabeth, so maybe we can catch up with them later. Do you wanna dance?"
