The woosh of air that accompanied a new arrival into the Autumn Ball pervaded the entrance area of the ballroom, the swish of fabric and smooth click-clicking against the glossy stone. An ominous frost to the wind's bite that only drew more dreadful the closer approached, the origin of such a sensation resting within the waif-like figure making their grand entrance. Ebony hair, braided and twisted up to secure it out of the way, the gleam of silver and emerald, the great contrast between navy blue and gainsboro grey.
Though at the tender age of nearly-13, there was no denying that this fair newcomer possessed a truly unusual level of beauty apparent even with half the face concealed with swooping metal and sturdy black. In her purposeful steps, a measured level of detached elegance borne out of a lifetime of lessons- quite surely blessed by Venus' will it seemed- bellied a secure role in high society. An easy sense of movement, a type of silent confidence. She is beauty, she is grace, she is power underneath a veil of lace and looks. The human incarnation of a siren- of angelic image with dangerous potential. Beautiful, terribly so.
Turn your head as she glides past, hurriedly turn away as she scans her surroundings appreciatively. Stare out of the corner of your eye to curiously watch as she sweeps into the ballroom, seeking out her familiars with a scrutinising eye. She aloofly avoids the gazes of strangers with an indifferent expression that would have not looked out of place upon a renaissance portrait kept in glass and dim lighting within the depths of a marble-cut museum. She would not have looked out of place put to canvas and kept through time. She probably already has been recorded by family painters regardless, great finely-painted depictions encased in heavy, ornate frames.
Introducing our princess of aloof disapproval - Astrea Edith Soleil Neptune-Chou, third of her forename, esteemed first-in-line heiress of the Neptune-Chou lineage. Member of the cunning Slytherin house, benched duellist in trade of the esteemed Viridian Vipers. Half-required to be in attendance under orders, half-required to be in attendance by her own knowledge of how messy things shall become.
Be careful not to draw too close lest the spirits of impropriety haunt you, a bubble of charged energy looming over the immaculately dressed doll of a girl that heavily discouraged approaching. The battle of the senses pulled at logic itself, a contradiction almost uncanny in its conflicting. Perhaps this intoxicating and yet dreadful concoction drew parallels to the rightfully earned reputation of ruin many a Hogwarts ball had. After all, if many an attending student already knew the high chance of disaster and very possible bodily/emotional trauma, then why bother attending? A simultaneous combination of naivety on the part of the first and second years who had somehow escaped devastation and the price of pain for beauty. Foolish children, they shall get what they know comes for them.
How fitting was the weather outside. Perhaps seen as dreadful for many whose virtue attracted themselves to the sun's rays or comforting to those who appealed to the frequent Scottish days of cloud and rain. Our Astrea being quite particular to the latter part of the population, though her own sense of self often ran cool and required her to seek warmth within the comforts of a good cup of tea and her feline companion. But alas, such arbitrary information has no place in such a thought process, for regardless of whichever stance you chose to align themselves to there was no denying that the stormy night outside truly added to the ambience.
The warm flickering light of charmed candlelight- they all knew how much trouble open flame provided, though it did little to deter first years from learning how to shoot jets of flame from the tips of their newly procured instruments of magic. If there was a reason why did they didn't learn protego until well into fourth year considering how dire their situations often became, Astrea knew not. They would have to work with what they could and attempt to make a successful exit by the end of the night.
May this be an evening to remember, if not with fond looks then in grimly grateful accounts.

October 16th, the day of the Hogwarts October masquerade ball- half of the reason Durmstrang had even travelled over to Scotland in the first place- and the ballroom was all whispy curls of smoke and candlelight between skulls and the indistinct scent of what was undeniably the essence of autumn itself. Spiced cider, pine, pumpkins- the gothic flair to the great room reminding our dear Johannes vaguely of Halloween nights traversing deep within haunted houses and night-darkened stone walls. Our German point of interest admittedly wasn't very familiar with the great centre of formality in Hogwarts or how it looked on a daily basis, but it would be a dick move to deny that the scene impressed him. The cathedral-esque ballroom, so large and looming, was impeccably decorated in spooky elegance whose deliberateness spoke deeply to how much thought had been put into it. All student-organised too if rumours around town had said anything.
If he'd known that the weather was going to be so ambient, maybe he would have repainted his forcibly sanded down nails a glossier shade of black or made more of a statement with his makeup than switching from pencil to liquid eyeliner or something. Perhaps the elegant lace and blue-gemmed mask that covered part of the Durmstrang boy's identity in a very 'Tuxedo Mask' fashion would have been more appropriately suited upon one of the fair ladies in attendance, but Johannes had never been one particularly strict with masculinity. After all, he felt strangely pretty with it on and anyone who had a problem with it could catch these hands.
The thin sense of anymonity, as silly and arbitrary as he knew it was, made him feel just as powerful as he normally was at the head of his Hellhound pack- what a rare occasion it was that his fellows hadn't been able to follow along, though he had wordlessly proclaimed his membership to the world with a single lapel pin. Wearing all of his rings to the ball would have been uncouth anyway and he needed to make a good impression. After all, it was incredibly uncharacteristic for the scruffy boy to dress up so formally, especially in the face of his fellow Durmstrang students. But he needed to make a good impression- er, a good enough impression- stripping himself of his battered nail polish and rings, replacing the sign of his allegiances instead with kept nails and nicely pulled back hair and slapped on the suaveness of his lesser-agreeable family side. He cleaned up quite nicely when he really wanted to.
The last time he'd been to a proper ball- a respectable, pureblood one that really fit the bill of 'unnecessarily lavish, stuffy and aggressively passive-aggressive'- had been years ago, when he was still a tiny suit-clad ankle biter with his brother wrapped around his little finger. See, the modern highlife meant that he wasn't nearly as entrenched in the magical-old-fashioned genteel than most others in his 'blood status' or whatever bullshit people pulled to divide people by class. But the Autumn ball honestly didn't really come off as mind-numbing as they were when he was younger- though Johannes had just stepped into the entranceway in a fashionably late nature- so did it really count as one? Eh, he wasn't looking at the specifics. The point is, it had been a while since the last time he's been caught in such a situation and he'd be a right bastard to make a fool out of himself- for himself, for the Sauers, for Durmstrang, for his date.
Speaking of his date- fair Lucas Alexander Dragamior, who had so finely asked for his hand to the ball- Johannes caught an eyeful of pale blonde hair off in the crowd and headed toward the second-in-line determinedly, an agreeable spark of brightness within his eyes. He looked great, he felt better-than-he'd-expected- after all, he had had the equivalent of an emotional breakdown just the evening before- and he was going to effin crush this. Take that Ambrożys, thinking they could wreck him with a letter of contact.
He was going to have a damn good time, if not for himself then to spite every single uptight member of half his 'family'. He was going to have a good time and as your writer here, I'm going to have to bring up the fact that while oblivious Johann was definitely going to have a time, there's a sizable dash of irony in the word 'good'. We all know how this is going to turn out.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)

Caradoc sorted out his tie in front of the hallway mirror. His usual brown suit would have to do for tonight, as he didn't feel like pulling out a tux or anything too fancy. The students were the ones that could get all dolled up for tonight. He was still required to fulfil a job at the end of the day. With the way these balls went the last few times, his presence would certainly be needed. Tugging on both sleeves to have them straight cut, he nodded to himself. His eyes fell on the mask before him. It was the same mask he had worn last year. A badger, fitting to his house and status. Papa Badger had to look the part after all.
The girls had been busy doing each other's hair. Or at least Cass had allowed Nora to touch hers. He remembered a time he was the one that had to do it. Learning how to do braids, so she could look normal amongst her friends. His head would peek through the open door. He knew how much this moment meant for her. It was hard not to shoot a teary glance towards Cassanora. The girl that had never met her own mother, but had seen countless others interact with theirs. For her to allow a woman to have such an interaction, it told him Nora was slowly getting through. A fact that made his face crack with a relieved smile. Coughing as he entered, he would uselessly tug his sleeves yet again. He tucked his glasses away on the inside of his vest and clapped his hands together. "Ready ladies? We best get moving or this ball will be over before we arrive." He grinned excitedly.
The trip would have been short, Nora knew the way like the back of her hand. With a gentle push, he'd send Cassanora down the hall before the two of them could step forward. In a hushed tone he smiled at his Slytherin counterpart as he spoke: "You're looking good tonight, Jensen." He pulled his badger mask from under his arm and unravelled the strings. Smirking before, his mouth would turn down as he got silent and stared at the item in his hands. There was a pause from him, a soft sigh escaping his breath as he seemed to ponder on something. "Last time I wore this I was about to go deal with a hag in the woods... You think they will come tonight?"

Mentioning @Jade SunshineFamily friend? Lily thought, not wanting to have heard it right. The Slytherin girl is a family friend of Lucia’s? Seriously? The only thing Lily wanted to do was march off and scream for a while. But she would not do that. She would not do that because these people who she was talking to, we nice. "So, anyway Lucia, you’re in Hufflepuff like me, right?" Lucia have a small nod, so small nobody else seemed to notice. "I knew I’d seen you before!" Lily was happy that she recognised her, and there was nothing that could make her happier right now.
She scowled at the Slytherin girl, then turned to Lucia and said, "How do you know her? And why is she a ‘family friend’?" Lily sighed. If she wanted to be friends with Lucia, she had to be nicer to her. "I’m sorry, Lucia." She said. "It’s just," Lily had no idea what to say. She had said to the girl ‘Don’t go round making enemies for no reason.’ Too late. She had already made an enemy. And that was the girl who was listening into this very conversation. "This girl’s my enemy, she called me a mudblood, when we first met on our second day."
But no matter how bad things got, Lily was certain that at least two positive things came out of this. She had made some new friends, and she had learned the girl’s name. Her name was Jay.Banner by Lucia Fox

"What in the hell where you thinking with that jacket?" It took a lot for Wyatt to bite back a smile. It seemed she was trying to be nice before and it felt odd, but now that she was being mean again, he felt more relaxed. It was a familiar feeling that Wyatt knew how to react to. He leaned back in his chair and crossed his right leg over his left. He hummed, “I don’t know. I like it.”
He continued, “Your little outfit is only second to the first-year who showed up in a moon costume. O for effort, though quite basic. Maybe I was expecting someone named Autumn to be a bit more creative in the season they were named after. I suppose that was senseless.” He didn’t bother mentioning how she complimented his mask. If she liked simple, boring things, it was perfect for her. Just a plain silver mask.
It really sounded like she was trying before, to be nice. But did she really deserve Wyatt’s kindness? Recently, Wyatt hadn’t seen very much of her, and he was generally okay with that. If every argument of his just fizzled out all the time with no consequences, he’d probably start having a lot more arguments... If that was even possible. He was happy forgetting all about her, for the most part.
Autumn was strange, though. One of the few people he hadn’t figured out yet. All he knew about Autumn was the stuff that was painfully easy to see. What had he said to her last year? Oh, right. “You’re a bored loner who has nothing better to do than watch people with far more interesting lives than you. Either because you’re avoiding your own issues or you’re incredibly lonely and sad. Possibly both. Still, it’s depressing and pathetic.”
It was surface-level stuff. She’s always alone. She mentioned her grandfather, saying she wouldn’t like to think about him. She was watching Wyatt and Nell because their silly rumors were distractions. She got involved and since someone like her would know better than to actually start a rumor (unless it would benefit them), it couldn’t be Autumn since Autumn didn’t know Wyatt before (to have any grudge).
Well, Wyatt didn’t know about Nell’s relationships, but it didn't seem like Nell Zoldak and Autumn "Raven" Ivy were hanging out on the weekends.

The Fall Ball (Masquerade)
Did Adonis expect to be late to the ball? No. Did he want to be late? Also no. Was he sort of dreading this ball due to the last one? Maybe. Was he excited to get his groove on? Yes. But! He had more than just that to look forward to for the evening. He had his date whom he had asked to attend the ball with via owl. Although, he really did suck at being one despite asking the girl himself first. Mainly due to how he was rather late right off the bat. Luckily, Katrina wasn't someone he had just barely met so it wasn't like it would've ended his relationship in general with her for being late. Compared to someone who he had just met if they were to be his date and give them a bad impression right off the bat as to the type of person they could've viewed him as.
Adonis was genuinely excited for the Autumn Ball for the most part though and most of all to be able to spend that with Katrina during it. He probably wouldn't share that information with her though. All he could do from here on out was be a good and fun date, hope that nothing would go wrong, and if something did? Then he planned on protecting her like he did at the last ball and help get others out of there as fast as possible.
His outfit for the evening had been provided by his aunt on the Thorn side of the family, since he still wasn't living with his parents at the moment but rather his grandfather and the rest of the Thorn's. Here was just to hoping it'd look good to anyone who might've seen it. He was donned in a black cloak with gold chains holding either side together, beneath his cloak was a black turtleneck that was tucked into his black dress pants. His mask was hard to describe but it had gold tracings and decals all over it but was still black for the most part. If he were to take off that mask, one would probably be end up distracted by his overall look entirely, especially his face. Perhaps he had a glow up over the summer for the most part and now he looked like some lovely creature? Aye, aye.
Upon entering the ball, Adonis took in the spectacle that the ballroom had been transformed into for this evening. It was beautiful. He would've stood there looking at it longer in awe if he hadn't remembered the date he had whom was waiting for him. Quickly, he made his way across the dance floor while looking in every direction for Katrina. Eventually, the boy found his date and chilling against the wall and straightened his posture. He then proceeded to walk over to her in a menacing way, slowly reaching into and under his cloak as if he were to pull something out and kill her like in a horror movie. Once he was beginning to get close to her face as he leaned in with an intimidating look in his eyes, Adonis swiftly reached up for his to mask off and yelled, "BOO!" in which he suddenly got into a small fit of laughter afterwards. "Hi, Kat. Sorry for being late and probably making you think I ditched you. I was late to the last ball as well if it makes you feel better. Probably not." Adonis informed the girl while raising a hand to comb into his hair.

It wasn't long that Katrina sat against the wall. Sure, if felt like forever, but in reality it was only a few minutes. It was just long enough that her rush of worry that she had been duped had faded and she had gone back to simply surveying the crowds.
Her attention was piqued once more as someone approached. They were-- almost looking like a villain, reaching into a black cloak. For a moment, Katrina was about to freak out. There was a murderer. And they were coming for her. Her hand hesitated over her wand, because she got a glimpse of their eyes. With a loud, 'Boo', Adonis ripped off his mask.
Katrina glared playfully, thanking herself for not whipping out a spell. She had deja vu of last time he had scared her and she had... well... smacked him on the face. She refrained from doing that this time. A charmed smile grew across her face. He hadn't left her, he was here, and adorable fun as always.
My goodness had he changed. Katrina listened to his apology, but, in reality, she was more than a little bit captivated by his appearance. She assumed that she had changed some too, perhaps gotten a bit more appealing Charmerbut it wasn't something she really thought of. But Adonis, he-- was pretty hot cute charming.
"I figured you were late..." Katrina was thankful that her hair and the darkness of the room hid her blush, "Well, no, I had an internal freakout and then figured you were late," Katrina bit her lip pensively, "I do like your outfit though, very villain coming to kill me," She laughed, a bit to herself, eyes meeting Adonis' again.

Jo had missed the beginning of the Autumn Ball, and to say it was an accident would be a lie. In fact, she originally intended not to appear at all. Lady Aithne, still sore from the scars the reunion had left them with, sent the girl no dress until the very last minute- a part of Jo wished she never had. Recently, she had been feeling a terrible sense of boredom that no frivolous dance could hope to alleviate; beautiful jewelry lost their sheen and "adventure" came without danger or reward. It was all the girl could do to lay in her dorm and stare at the ceiling for the majority of her second-year free time so far.
So what shook her from her languid apathy? Perhaps it was an unnatural sense of danger - a young prickling feeling on the back of the girl's neck that awakened her dormant Gryffindor lust to harm and be harmed in the name of some strange cause or for nothing more than a sense of excitement.
Perhaps it was the wonderful sense of secrecy and mystery that came with donning a mask that brought up old memories of skulking around with @Rafael D'Spacito in a certain person's office, searching for elusive clues. The girl hated to admit it, but memories of fun times, even with a halfway enemy, were dear to her. Of course, Jo did not delude herself into thinking that any secrecy from wearing a mask would last very long. There were a limited amount of students in the school, after all, and Jo's British-Japanese accent was horribly distinctive. The moment she opened her mouth, she could be identified from a mile away.
Whatever motivation she might have had for coming, the fact remained that she was here, now, with no intention of leaving until she had had her fun. Fun, of course, meaning a plate full of food and spying on people that she knew.
There were students everywhere in the ballroom, and their presence was compounded by the attendance of students from other schools. Jo frowned. It might be a bit harder than she thought to get some quiet time to herself.
The ghost of a cat slunk by, paying the girl no attention as she "sorry" and "excuse me" -ed her way to the food table and filed her plate with all sorts of food - most of them sweet. She wouldn't dance quite yet; no need to ruin her makeup. For now, she seated herself on a velvety chair and began to look for any students she knew. Students to avoid if she were going to have her fun anonymously. The masks made it much harder. Much more fun.
ACTION: Entering, getting food, and searching out people she knows in order to avoid them/spy on them.

Ah!! It was Miles’s first Hogwarts dance ever and he was beyond excited. He eventually decided on going to the Masquerade Ball after hours of debating it in his head and… well it was going to be THE BEST. He was going to do everything. Talk, dance, eat, other stuff? Well, who knows but oh MAN is it going to be the most fun thing ever to happen in the universe. Miles practically skipped the whole way to the ballroom.
Another thing. Hogwarts was full of cute boys. Like. Sure, Ilvermorny was cool. A lot of cool people, but Hogwarts? Dangerous. That’s all Miles would say about it. Especially that one kid Miles met at that robes place. Maybe it wasn’t Miles’s best day, but that Earl Gray was special. Him and his little pink hair had Miles staring every day in a… not creepy way. Just an I-wanna-talk-to-you-again-but-anxiety way.
Maybe he should be more freaked out over his headmaster’s warning, or that one elf that told him not to trust the food (guess I’ll cross off eating from tonight’s list), or that last ball that happened at Hogwarts that ended with mosps flying everywhere, but the main thing Miles was concerned about was Earl Gray. Man, being a wizard child could be really stressful sometimes, even without dragons and sea monsters and whatnot.
After the Horned-Serpent officially entered the ballroom, he tried to find some familiar faces. Some Ilvermorny students, some Durmstrang, some Beauxbatons, and a lot of Hogwarts students, obviously. It wasn’t crowded, but it was pretty full. It was tough to see who was there. Already becoming bored of not talking for like, three seconds, Miles made it his mission to find someone to talk to... before someone finds him!

Quinn had been quietly observing the ball unfolding before his fairly astute eyes. It was funny really, since he just assumed most would think him fairly slow or at the very least less then observant given his height and usual way of acting. He didn't mind this much though as it gave him free reign to observe as he pleased.
Unfortunately this meant he picked up on the astounding number of risqué attire that the female student body chose to dawn for such an occasion. He could easily guess that many were very excited for this event, especially considering the school's troubled history with balls as of late. They always went bad but every time one was held there was sheer excitement and a sense of showman ship in the way in which people showed up. This he didn't mind but...

Quinn externally sighed shaking his head softly, not at all noticing the beautiful Dhampir approaching him. 'Harlin ah'm a gentleman and you are clearly capable of being one too. It's not right, they clearly came here with the intention of having a blast. 'Fine...but I'm still right and you can't change my mind on that Queenie. But if you're still holding up your end of the deal then I will behave...for now Queenie...'
Quinn sighed once more and felt something bump against the side of his leg. "Hm?" He looked down to see the most beautiful sight. It had taken him truly aback at the beauty of the girl standing before him. Her pale skin, the piercing blue eyes behind that beautiful black mask, and the dress...that beautiful red dress that complemented her strawberry red hair. "..." Ever so quietly, like the gentleman he was. The Half-Giant prefect of Hufflepuff knelt down on one knee so that he wasn't horrendously taller then Nico. Still a few heads taller then Nico he looked down staring into her eyes. A warm smile coming across his face.
"A cuisle (My darling), you look as beautiful as the full moon on a clear winter's night." His smile widened as he gently took her hand, and followed through on what his grandpa called a sure fire way to impress your love. He kissed the back of her hand staring at her directly just like his grandpa said, but before he could continue there was another interruption. He turned his attention to a very dapper looking Breana Oliveire. Rather awkwardly his face started to turn beet red.
'Wow Queenie it took you this long to recognize you're being this cringe. I thought I was bad but you clearly take the cake. Well don't keep that dapper looking boy...wait that's Breana. Well hello~ She's a real lady killer isn't she.' A snicker could be heard in his mind.
Quinn externally sighed shaking his head softly, not at all noticing the beautiful Dhampir approaching him. 'Goddammit Harlin.' Curse his luck. He quickly stood up and rubbed the back of his neck, "O-O-Oh hey Breana! N-Nice to see you here too...n-not interrupting anything at the moment...n-nothing at all." He stuttered out like an idiot mentally kicking himself. "A-Anyway um N-Nico...Breana ye both look so lovely. Why don't ye join us Breana. I saw Rosie earlier...wouldn't it be nice to form a group here. It's a masquerade after all so we should have fun right?" He slowly attempted to recover himself.
