Cloudy with a Chance of Tears PV Dymphna Closed

Amanda shuffled through the hallway, her eyes fixed on the ground. Her normal bright attitude was gone and in its place was a quiet, sullen demeanor. The whole day had been wrong from the start. She had tripped on her way to History of Magic, failed to correctly cast a spell in Charms in front of the whole class, and completely messed up the Transfiguration spell she was supposed to be performing. Oh, and Amanda also accidentally smacked a timid first year in the face with her school bag, causing the girl to run off crying.

Amanda pushed open the door to the girl’s lavatory, letting it slam shut behind her. She walked over one of the few sinks and braced her arms on it, glancing at her reflection in the mirror. She grimaced at the tired eyes staring back at her and tried to comb through her messy hair with her hand to flatten it. After a minute or so, Amanda gave up on her hopeless hair and slumped against the bathroom wall, sliding down until her bottom hit the floor. She let out an exhausted sigh and suddenly burst into tears. She put her head in her hands and made an effort to cry as silently as possible, hoping that no one would hear her.

“Oh, I may be on the side of the angels, but don't think for one second that I am one of them.”

Cloudy with a Chance of Tears PV Dymphna Closed
Everything seemed to be going Dymphna’s way. She woke up from a wonderful dream about being back home in Malahide, except all her friends were there too. Breakfast was poached eggs and bacon rashers — yum! Then she spent a while reading for pleasure rather than studying before she started off towards class.

Classes were going well. The blonde even did better in Potions than usual. It wasn’t an awful brown colour but a dark purple that it was supposed to be. Success! The rest of her time went by smoothly until she heard crying in the girls lavatory. At first, she imagined that it was Moaning Myrtle but she wouldn’t venture that far from her toilet, would she?

Pushing open the door, she stepped in and shut it behind her. “Are you alright? There was someone there but it wasn’t anyone that she knew, or so she thought. Without hesitation, Dymphna sat beside her. Close enough to comfort but far enough away as to not smother the poor girl.

It was a little awkward. There were times when she helped her friends but she knew them, knew what the best ways to help were. Sometimes they just wanted to have a chat and work out the problem. Others just wanted a distraction, to ignore it for a while. She didn’t know what the best way to help would be, but at least she knew her name.

“Do you want to talk about it, Amanda?” Whatever was wrong, Dymphna wanted to help in any way that she could. Especially since it was a fellow Ravenclaw, a familiar face that she could remember seeing during her first weeks at Hogwarts. “If you don’t, is there anything else I can do to help?”
