The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
@Emerly Pine @Gem Stuart @Timothy 'Tim' Blaine @James McMurtrie
Rafa, if he were honest, was pretty burnt out about the whole magic thing.
Nothing against the art, of course – it was interesting enough. But magic was so, so complicated. It was like girls – they never made sense, and just when you thought you had them all figured out, they just pulled the rug out from under your feet. It just never clicked with him. Any old teacher could tell, it was so evident.
Not that he couldn’t do the spells or anything – those came relatively easy. It was the theory that had really gotten him going. It reminded him of when he was first learning English – it had hurt his head so much, and filled him with this sort of aggravation that he couldn’t really explain without tiring himself out. It was just something he couldn’t make himself do, especially not alone. It hadn’t been until a few days ago that his grades had actually improved at all. He had been studying in the library (trying, anyways), and a guy had been nice enough to help him out a little. The guidance had really helped – he actually started to understand a bit of what Lian had been trying to teach him.
(Even if they had only studied for, at most, five minutes, he had actually gotten some solid information. He was pretty optimistic that if he had more help with his homework, maybe he wouldn’t be making Ps and Ds in just about everything.)
And honestly, he hadn’t really though much of it until the other night. He didn’t exactly have a reputation for his brain or anything – there was a pretty good reason why he wasn’t sorted into Ravenclaw. But the other night, a pretty bright idea had come to him -Ravenclaw, if he did say so himself. What if I were to set up a study club? He had thought. He didn’t really understand how group studies helped you, but they seemed to work in the library that day. Plus, he didn’t really understand a whole lot, anyways. Maybe smartness would rub off or something. So, he had woken up early the next day. Sent out a few owls, set up a few posters. He didn’t know how successful his club would be, but he would stay optimistic. It wasn’t like optimism had killed anyone before. He hoped, at least.
Which is why he found himself in the Boys Lavatory.
It wasn’t the most ideal, he’d admit. There weren’t any chairs, it kind of stunk a little, and even though it was cleaned everyday… well, it was the boys lavatory, for Chrissakes. And he could have probably found a better place to study. But if he were completely honest, this was the only place he could think of that would be safe from the girls. His posters hadn’t even been up for an entire hour, and he had found a nemesis – Jo Morgan and the Acid Fizz Club. He didn’t exactly pride himself in the fact that girls were out to get him. In fact, if anyone even decided to come to his little club, he would try to avoid that little detail – at least, until in was necessary to bring up. A prank war seemed a bit ominous. Though, he had taken some precautions. No female could touch them in here. Plus, he had called in a pranking specialist. If Jo thought she was in for an easy takedown, she would have to think again.
But really, he didn’t have time to focus on that right now. He wasn’t even sure if people were going to come – he had gotten an owl back from his 'best man', but that was basically where it ended. He was hoping this wouldn’t be a flop. Besides his grades, he had really been hoping to see some new faces. He plopped his Charms book out on his lap, flipping through the pages until he found his bookmark. “What’cha got for me today, Vernatis,” he said to himself in a sing-song kind of voice. “Dancing Feet Spell,” he mumbled jokingly, wiggling his eyebrows. “Intimidating…”

@Rafael D'Spacito
Goddamn, D’Spacito. The Boys’ Bathroom? You trying to kill us or something?
That was Tim’s first thought when he read Rafa’s owl. Like, seriously, does he even know what goes on in there? I wish I didn’t. Not a whole lot of things scared Tim – he was actually proud of that fact. But one of the things that gave him shivers was the boys’ bathroom. I mean, can a toilet be cursed? he had thought to himself as he worked on his Defense Against the Dark Arts homework. I could be sitting in the exact place that Voldemort himself once sat. You could get butt cancer or something. That got a snicker out of him, right there on the Hufflepuff Table. He cracked himself up sometimes. But really, jokes aside. Tim didn’t believe in cooties, but he did believe in curses. He was cursed for crying out loud, by an actual freaking witch – it really sucked balls sometimes. The last thing he needed was another reason for his bad luck to blow up in his face. The boys’ bathroom? Most diseased place in the whole school? Hospital Wing, anyone? Maybe this wouldn’t bother any other student, but it really made his skin crawl.
Tim couldn’t blame Rafa, though – he had this thing, where he didn’t think things through all the time. It was part of his charm, honestly. He was the smooth, strong bloke – not the smart one. It was more fun to knock him around that way. Tim was actually kind of relieved, in a way. It had been a bit of a time stretch since he had talked to his friend. Not for any enmity reason – he had just been a bit preoccupied with his schoolwork. It gave him a good feeling, knowing that he hadn’t been forgotten. Rafa was practically his brother – he didn’t know a lot of people he could sock in the face and then spill his darkest secrets to, but that was Rafa. Yeah, his brother.
It took him a little while longer to sort through the rest of the letter. Something about girls and a prank war. Tim had a pretty steady history in pranks. He prided himself in being the king of such an art, actually. He had heard stories of old pranking legends – Fred and George Weasley were basically his role models in life. His foster mom had told him stories of the twins’ exploits. They had always given him this sort of fuzzy feeling, the kind you get when you’re shocked by a plot twist. Hogwarts was a story, and the Weasleys were his favorite characters. He had told Rafa this a little while back. He guessed that was why his friend brought it up now. Well, he called in the best. Boys’ Lavatory it is.
And cue time skip to the present. Tim was just having the best day ever. He spilt milk on his robes, knocked over two innocent girls, and tripped over his shoelaces 7 times. And he had triple-knotted them. He was kind of used to this bad luck, but it really got on his last nerve sometimes. In all seriousness, though, he was just happy he made it to the Boys’ Lavatory in one piece. Though, he wasn’t sure it really mattered. The moment he stepped into the Boys’ Lavatory, he thought he might actually die right then and there. How many dudes forgot to flush today? He wondered to himself. He didn’t have to focus on the terrible smell long, however. His sinuses soon adapted, his nose becoming terribly clogged. Oh, fun. He tried not to focus on this, and instead focus on finding his friend.
And there he was, setting his book on his lap. “What’cha got for me today, Vernatis?” Rafa said, like nobody could hear him. “Dancing Feet Spell. Intimidating…”
“You should hear yourself, mate,” Tim told Rafa, his voice laced with humor. “You sound like a fucking girl or something. Shaking in your boots, are you? Should I call your mum?” He plopped onto the ground, right beside Rafa. In one quick movement, he messed up his friend’s hair. Though, with his previous comment, he knew exactly what he was setting himself up for. His face took the form of a massive grin. Brace for impact, he thought jokingly.

@Timothy 'Tim' Blaine
“You should hear yourself, mate,” he heard a familiar, snarky voice say suddenly. Rafa looked up to see his best man, grinning like a the madman he was. “You sound like a fucking girl or something,” Tim told him humorously. Rafa noticed a but of a stain on his robes, but he knew better than to ask. He knew Tim. “Shaking in your boots, are you? Should I call your mum?” Tim sat down next to Rafa, wasting no time in ruffling his currently messy hair up. Rafa was prepared; Tim pulled something like this just about every time they met up. It was kind of their tradition.
A grin began to grow on Rafa’s face. “Yeah, man?” Rafa answered jokingly, immediately pulling Tim into a light, playful kind of chokehold. “You know, I would test my spell on you, but I wouldn’t ever know if it worked. You trip up enough as is, you know?” he laughed, ruffling up Tim’s hair right back in a playful but vengeful sort of way.
He roughhoused a bit more, before finally letting the other boy go. He offered Tim a grin. “It’s nice to see you, man. Haven’t seen you around.” He pulled his Charms book back up onto his lap. “Know anything about Tarantallegra?” he asked Tim. His friend was pretty smart, so he most likely had something to say about the matter. Though, Rafa took note of the fact that Tim didn’t have his books with him. Knowing Tim, he probably left them in his last class or something. He was the spontaneous sort anyway, so it kept things interesting. “It gives me a little here,” he continued, pointing at his book. “But I was wondering if you had anything else to say on the matter.” He offered Tim an intrigued look. Horseplay aside, Tim was a pretty good study partner.

He knew full well what would happen next. Rafa got this fiery kind of look on his face, a bright grin spreading across his features like wildfire. “Yeah, man?” Rafa pulled into a chokehold, ruffling up his hair. Life got pretty hectic for a couple of seconds. “You know, I would test my spell on you, but I wouldn’t ever know if it worked,” Rafa said. Tim wasn’t sure if he was laughing or not. He was a little focused on the hand screwing up his hair.. “You trip up enough as is, you know?” he finished, in what Tim assumed to be a joking way. Any other way would just be out-of-character for Rafa.
“Stop, stop, stop!” Tim snorted, tears of laughter beading at the corners of his vision. He was trying to fight back, but was having a hard time getting a grip on his mate behind him. “You oaf! Stop!” Rafa finally let go, and Tim caught his breath, his grin never fading.
“It’s nice to see you, man. Haven’t seen you around,” his mate told him, pulling his Charms book onto his lap. “Know anything about Tarantallegra? It gives me a little here, but I was wondering if you had anything else to say on the matter.” He looked at Tim, an interested sort of gleam in his eye.
Tim began to answer, reaching down beside him for his books. And that’s when it dawned on him: He didn’t have his books with him. Tim, you bloody bastard! For a moment, he tried to remember where he had left them. No places came to mind. He sighed bitterly, a shadow covering his face. Getting pretty bloody tired of forgetting things. He quickly shook the thought from his head, replacing the shadows with an awkward smile. “Don’t got my notes with me,” he told Rafa, a bit wryly. “But I’ll tell you what I’ve got in my head.” He tapped his temple for extra effect, taking Rafa’s book and setting it in his own lap.
Tim spent the next few minutes explaining all the facts he had about the Tarantallegra Spell, using Rafa’s book as a sort of reference whenever his memory ran dry. After he finished with the Dancing Feet Spell, he went on to explain the Reparo spell to the best of his ability, though he didn’t know as much as he hoped. The theory of it all made perfect sense. It was the application that really stumped him. Besides, he thought, why would anyone want to trip someone up on purpose? If they got their feet tangled up on a daily basis, they would know how bloody awful it is. But then again, some wizards did strange things. “That’s all I got, mate,” Tim finally said. “At least, all I can remember at the moment.” He threaded a hand through his hair thoughtfully, trying to search for anything else he could tell Rafa. When nothing came up, he sighed. “I hate Charms, you know? More of a Transfigurations man meself.”

The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
Emerly had wandered into the boy's bathroom. It had taken some time to remember where it was. Though he preferred the dorm bathrooms instead, you just never knew when you needed to stop by to double-wash your hands after a particularly eventful Herbology class. This was one of those times.
He entered the place somewhat regretfully. He knew that the staff tried their best and was thankful for it but it was still mildly spooky in the boy's bathroom. He found himself retreating back out in the event that it was empty on more than one occasion. Fortunately, though, it seemed like there were a few students busy chatting away, likely a Hufflepuff and Gryffindor from the yellow and red accents Emerly glanced at on his way to the sink. He tried his best to mind his own business, pulling up his robe sleeves to get the extra dirt out of his fingernails so he could put on his fingerless mitts. Things were going relatively well, until without really trying he overheard one of them speaking under the soft din of the faucet.
“You sound like a" Expletive. "girl or something,”
Emerly's eyes widened. He tried to calm down but there was something that irked him so bad about that phrase that he couldn't even work out what they were saying over his anger and the sound of the water. At the nearest silence between their conversations, Emerly abruptly turned off the faucet and glared at the pair over his shoulder. Did they even notice other people were here, did they think it was fine to talk like that just because there were no girls around? He was right about to give them both a piece of his mind when they started fighting playfully.
He turned back around with a sigh, pulling his fingerless mitts on. He'd taken them off for class on the grounds. He was just about to leave, and made it to the door before something compelled him to turn around and speak out in a low, dangerous voice he rarely used, "Whoever just used the word girl as an insult should reconsider it." he regarded them with a smidgen of scorn that crept onto his face wholly unintentionally. If they got mad at him, fine. He'd just run away, and if he was the first person to call out that kind of speech, at least whoever it was wouldn't have any excuses doing so in the future.

The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
interacting w/ @Emerly Pine, @Rafael D'Spacito & @Timothy 'Tim' BlaineIt hadn't been the first time Gem was invited to a study group, having been the most stereotypical Ravenclaw to ever prance through the halls of Hogwarts. However, he was chuffed (and very amused) to hear the invitation came from Rafa of all people. He'd brought his charms book with him, his notes and homework, and that stupid, orange, fat cat of his that cried and cried until he'd caved and let him trot along.
"You're so annoying," Gem huffed, his sneakers sliding against the floors, "I know I talk a lot, but you? You've got tha same energy to wail as a widow." When Basil let out a short, curt little meow, he shook his head and continued down the halls.
Of all places, he had to choose the Boy's Lavatory. It always smelled like Hagrid's fresh arse in there, but it was always just... musky, a vague linger in the air-- one Gem could hardly tolerate. Even as he stood outside, he contemplated asking any of the professors if they had a gas mask to spare.
Distantly, he was able to hear a muffled back and forth between Rafa, someone he didn't know, and... was that Emerly? He'd be damned!
Doesn't seem too happy by the sounds of it, he thought, but it'll be nice to see him again. Not only that, but there was mention of tarantallegra, one of Gem's favorite spells so far. As he pushed the door open, he saw just what he expected; Emerly, Rafa, and someone he didn't know. The air was freshly tense, but the loud sound of Basil's screaming was sure to still it and make it even more awkward (or humorous, he wasn't actually positive).
"Uh..." He sniffed, scratching the back of his head, "didn't... interrupt anythin' did I? Were we talkin' about tarantallegra?" It was sort of inconvenient that he was barely processing the conflict, so his guess sort of just slipped out of loose lips. "Somefin' about using... girl as an insult?"
Ah, shit. He was ready to duck and run if this became bigger than an intense debate about gender politics. Sure, he'd seen people throw punches over this, and while entertaining, he wasn't sure how much his cat would appreciate it.
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
"G-Gem?" Emerly was quick to recognize the Ravenclaw. It had been a while since they had seen each other. Thankfully the Slytherin had always been good remembering names. "Gem Stuart." he inquired, more like stated, eyebrows raised, as if he didn't quite believe what was happening. His anger had quickly dissipated into surprise, though fragments of it still remained, hovering over him like a misty Irish morning. As if remembering the rest of what was happening, in the midst of what appeared to be the Ravenclaw's cat meowing, Emerly's eyes flickered over to the other two. What happens when a Gryffindor, a Hufflepuff, a Ravenclaw, and Slytherin run into each other?
Hopefully something good.
"Ah... I didn't..." he sighed, blowing out a puff of air, holding his hair, which was held up in a loose ponytail this particular day, "Didn't mean to go earwiging into your conversation." his grey eyes peered up at the other two students tentatively, evaluating the situation, as if looking for common ground. A strand of hair fell over his face and he pushed it behind his ear, eyes befalling the cat at the musician's side. He knelt, holding out his hand gently, seeing if he or she wanted to make friends.
"Oh I'm knackered." he lowered his head abruptly, hand still held out comically, "I just helped pot a lot of plants, nearly lost my wits when the professor said we might be doing mandrakes today. Not the teacher's fault, but I'm a little in over my head, even if we didn't..." he shook his head and looked at the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff again, asking himself more than anything, "Why are there so many people in here?" he furrowed his brow and looked past Gem's cat, remembering seeing a few posters about a study group lately, and addressing the others present, "Is this... is this a study group?"
Hopefully something good.

The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
@Gem Stuart @Emerly Pine @Rafael D'Spacito
"Whoever just used the word girl as an insult should reconsider it,” a voice said rather dangerously.
Immediately, Tim felt rather bad. He should really be watching his mouth – this was a public area, and anyone could hear their conversing. He really wasn’t the type to try to offend people – on the contrary, he liked making people laugh. The thought of upsetting this new face, really put a nasty feeling in his stomach. “Erm, sorry mate,” he said a bit tentatively, his face taking a rather sorry look. “I was only joking. Nothing against girls, or anything.” He remembered a girl from one of his old foster homes – real tough bird, she was. She used to rough him up a lot, and liked getting dirty in the woods. He remembered running his mouth off to her, and had gotten his head shoved in a toilet. She had really been his mate. Gave him quite good memories. He really didn’t want this new guy to get the wrong idea about him or anything – he really didn’t have anything against girls.
He looked back up at this new person – Slytherin, if his robes said anything – and opened his mouth to say something, but was abruptly interrupted by the sounds of the door opening. A face he’d never seen before passed through the opening, holding books in one arm, and… is that a bloody cat? A massive grin began to grow on Tim’s face, one he couldn’t squander.
"Uh..." the boy said, "didn't... interrupt anythin' did I? Were we talkin' about tarantallegra? Somefin' about using... girl as an insult?"
"G-Gem?" the Slytherin and the Ravenclaw seemed to recognize each other. Which was good, because Tim really needed to get the focus off of himself for a moment. He really hated confrontation. It made him all jittery. He played with the corner of the page he was on, watching their small interaction with amusement. “Gem Stuart." He seemed to consider the Ravenclaw for another moment, before turning his attention to the two boys on the floor. "Ah... I didn't... didn't mean to go earwigging into your conversation,” he told Tim and his friend, a bit comically. "Oh, I'm knackered," he added, and went on to explain how he may be potting mandrakes soon… and to hell with Tim if he blamed the man. Those little bastards were a piece of work. "Why are there so many people in here?" he finally asked, an eyebrow raised in question. "Is this... is this a study group?"
“Yeah, mate! The Thunderbirds!” Tim told him rather enthusiastically. Then he became serious again. “Hope we didn’t get off on the wrong foot or anything, mate,” he told the Slytherin. “I’ll put my filter on, if that helps anything.” Then he held his hand out – that was just the kind of guy he was, always trying to shake someone’s hand. It was such an American thing to do, but it just felt right, for some reason. He also looked at the new Ravenclaw – Gem, if he had picked anything up. “The name’s Timothy,” he told them, an easygoing look on his face. “But only me mum calls me that.” That’s when he noticed it – of the four people in the bathroom, they were all different colors. “Merlin’s beard!” he exclaimed. “It’s a bloody rainbow!” He grinned a bit, trying to portray that he meant no ill will by this comment. He wasn’t exactly sure what was going on in their minds, but he really didn’t want to set anyone off again.

The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
interacting w/ @Timothy 'Tim' Blaine, @Emerly Pine & @Rafael D'Spacito
Gem sniffed, watching everything go down right before his eyes. It wasn't that he didn't expect it, Hufflepuffs were always out to make friends, (for the most part, anyway) and he wasn't there to stick his nose in things... he was just here to study.
"Gem Stuart, mate," He said, reaching out to grab Tim's hand, shake it nice and firm. "Pleasure ta meet'cha." It didn't take him very long to get settled down, sitting against the wall. While that happened, Basil was busy rubbing his fat self against Emerly's legs, purring loud enough to rumble the whole castle. It was always amusing, how someone could show the slightest affection and Basil would be all over them only a second later.
"So," Gem began, cracking his charms book open, "tarant-"
“Merlin’s beard! It’s a bloody rainbow!”
He hadn't noticed it yet, but Tim was right- a clear representation of every house, right before their eyes. A Slytherin, a Hufflepuff, a Gryffindor, and a Ravenclaw. He could only think it as amusing, and because everyone in the room seemed rather civil, he had no place to speak out of turn for whatever reason.
"Hell, yer right. I wonder which one ov us'll burn down e' school first." He glanced at Rafa, then back down at his book, humming softly to himself while he found the chapter he was looking for.
"I think charms is one ov the best subjects," he said, "you know why? Cos' wivout them, we wouldn't have simple repairing spells or wotever. Look, see," He pulled out his wand, standing up from his spot. On the mirror, there was a crack, right in front of one of the mirrors. With a lift of his wand, he spoke quite surely of himself. "Reparo." And in a second, the crack was gone.
"See? Charms is one of e' best classes. You cannot change my mind."
What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.

The Thunderbirds Meeting #1
@Timothy 'Tim' Blaine @Gem Stuart @Emerly Pine @Cormac McCarthy
It seemed that after the little gender skirmish, things seemed to settle down a bit. Rafa was thankful – he knew Tim could run his mouth, but he was a little taken aback to see him apologize so quickly. He decided not to think of it too hard, and just settle with his luck. Besides, he was a little preoccupied anyways, his focus mainly on the arrival of his other friend.
Rafa was pleased to see that Gem had come. Since their little run-in in the library, Rafa had been hoping to see him again, but it had been hard to find reasons for them to see each other. Their schedules didn’t really line up, or anything. Some small part of him had been holding his breath in anticipation, he realized. He was definitely relieved, he decided. His friend had also brought a cat – a massive, orange tabby, by the looks of it. He kept rubbing himself all over the Slytherin boy (of whom’s name he didn’t know yet). This highly amused Rafa, if he did say so himself. Friendly cat, huh.
"So," Gem said aloud. He had settled down across from him, opening his charms book. He started to elaborate on the Dancing Feet Spell for a moment, before he was interrupted by Tim.
“Merlin’s beard! It’s a bloody rainbow!” his friend had said. It took Rafa a moment to realize exactly what he meant – there was a representative of each house, sitting there in the bathroom. Count on Tim to point that out for everyone, he thought jokingly. But really, Rafa felt an air of anticipation wash over him. He’d never been in this kind of situation before. What would happen?
"Hell, yer right. I wonder which one ov us'll burn down e' school first,” Gem commented. This got a laugh out of Rafa. And count on Gem to make you laugh. He entertained himself for a moment with this comment – he had a pretty good idea who would burn down the school first, if he did say so himself. He glanced over at Gem with a grin, before stealing back his book from Tim’s lap. He nudged Tim gently on the side in a joking manner, before finding his previous place.
"I think charms is one ov the best subjects," Gem said, having turned to the same page. “You know why? Cos' wivout them, we wouldn't have simple repairing spells or wotever. Look, see," He pulled out his wand, abruptly standing. Rafa watched as Gem repaired one of the mirrors, right in front of them. He was a bit impressed – he hadn’t exactly perfected that spell yet.
"See?” Gem concluded confidently. “Charms is one of e' best classes. You cannot change my mind."
“I don’t know, man,” Rafa said, a joking smile on his face. Charms was fun and all, but he did have his opinions. “Defense Against the Dark Arts is pretty cool, you know? I mean, what could be better than putting a dark wizard in his place?” He leaned against the wall, playing with the edge of his page, a thoughtful look on his face. “Like Harry Potter, y’know?” (Harry Potter was definitely one of those people Rafa looked up to. He wasn’t ashamed about it, either – the man had cheated death and defeated one of the most formidable wizards in history.)

I probably haven't collected my allowance yet.
