Asher has always hated his name, Asher Owens just seemed like too simple of a name for his life. Asher was adopted by a loving couple at the age of two. Jonas and Alex had been looking to adopt for some time and Asher was a perfect fit for their newly formed family. Both parents knew that having a family wasn't going to be easy but they wanted a child nonetheless.
Heroes don't wear capes, they wear dog tags

There were two things that made their family complicated. The first one was that Asher only actually met one of this fathers, Alex when he turned 4. This was because Alex had served in the army from age 18 and continued to do so for hopefully the rest of his life. Alex was hardly ever at home for the 11 years of Asher's life so far and Asher missed him horribly. When Alex was home, he raised Asher with a strict military style.

Yer a wizard Harry!

The other problem was that Jonas was a wizard. That wouldn't have been a problem if it hadn't been for the fact that Alex didn't know. Jonas had never worked up the courage to tell his husband about his magical abilities and had resigned to living a muggle life instead. Obviously due to the fact that Asher was adopted, he didn't have to worry about a wizard son. Or at least, that's what he thought. Neither Alex or Jonas had had much contact with Asher's birth parents but it might have been a good idea to look into it because by age nine it was apparent that Asher was a wizard. Thanks to the fact that Alex was hardly ever home, he didn't notice anything strange but Jonas did. Things breaking without anyone touching them, little things common with magical kids. His suspicions were finally confirmed when a letter appeared on their doorstep, a letter from Hogwarts.

A week later after hours of phone calls to his husband, Jonas announced to his young son that he was being sent off to military school, or at least that's what he had told Alex. A few days later he revealed the entire truth of the wizarding world to Asher.
Kindness is loving people more than they deserve
Being raised in loving, but military family has really effected Asher's personality. He is kind and bubbly, while continuing to be polite and quiet. His ability to be both friendly and quiet at the same time came from an interesting family. On the one hand, his father Jonas doted on him. He taught his son the art of kindness and giving. Being a mellow person himself, Jonas taught Asher through example.
Nothing hurts more than doing your absolute best and still not being good enough

The relationship with his other father, Alex was a bit more complicated. Asher has never been able to shake the feeling that he is a disappointment to Alex. He never seemed to do well enough in school, or be strong enough, or tough enough or brave enough to please his other father. Alex taught him about bravery and striving to be the best possible (even if Asher never felt like his best was good enough). As a result of these two different teachings, Asher is always the first to volunteer to help out and for the most part remains obedient to teachers and fellow peers.
I dare you to take a little pain, I dare you!
There is only one point at which Asher throws away all his rules of obedience and politeness and that is when his bravery is in question. His father, Alex was and continues to be in the military and Asher always thought of him as being unbelievably brave. As a result he constantly feels the need to live up to his father's standards and show his bravery (even if it is stupid). He never refuses a dare and would rather fight and get hurt than run away. Like most eleven year olds, his judgement isn't the greatest and he usually ends up with scrapped shins or jagged cuts from idiotic dares and ideas.
Don't leave me alone with my thoughts

One thing anyone should know about Asher is that he is sensitive, really sensitive. He tries to hide it under a layer of macho behavior like his father but really even the slightest mean comment can hurt him. He always tries his best to please others and can't stand the idea of not being liked.

Quiet in nature, it might come to a surprise that Asher's greatest fear is being alone. He hates night time as it makes everything so quiet and makes him feel as though he is the only one in the entire world. Sometimes he has this irrational fear that one day he will be the only person left on earth and he will be all alone.
