It is not the strongest nor the smartest who survives but those who can best manage change. And what is life if not change?

There he was, a child of fire and brimstone, searching deep into the abyss beyond the bars for what he has lost. He could never find them. His eyes would search deeper, yet only found himself gazing back into his verdant irises.

Yes, the abyss stared back indeed.

Fourteen years ago, he was no more than a lost cub; wraps of silver linen heralded his arrival for the courts of abandonment. They looked at him with pity in their eyes, for it was another soul that was born in a world of hurt.

The jungle that raised him was as vibrant as ever. It was full of life and energy, the bustling about of busy people filling the air with their toxins of black and death. It was just another day in the city of Glasgow.

Throughout his existence, one question permeated his mind. Why was he here? Not just in this crime-filled city of a cesspool, but rather the question of his existence. He was conceived, only to be abandoned in a ruthless realm. He felt as if he was an insect in this concrete jungle; He wasn’t wrong. But even insects had a directive and he had his.

Survival.

Even as a child, his instincts told him of the future that awaited him within that orphanage. Indeed, he was certainly grateful for their efforts, though he did not wish to bide his time to be pitied once more by some wanna-be parent who could never truly look at him with the same gaze as they would their own kind. If he was to survive, he’ll do so by himself.

His hands crumpled and struck the world with his own might, sweat bouncing off his immaculate skin, running down into the earth below. His long hair flowed graciously, resting upon his head like a crown of shadows endlessly swaying in the sun and steely still within the moonlight’s stare.

His eyes became seasoned, innocence gone, and reality took hold. His hands became swift, a snake that coiled back and bit upon the wallets of every passerby. His feet endlessly shook the concrete, shuffling and turning, avoiding the fate of a future behind bars.

The opportunity of childhood was never an option.
