Physical Description:

Morgause stands stark, notably taller than other kids her age, giving her, in combination with her broad stature, what could be an intimidating presence if it weren't for her eclectic sense of self. This stature is undoubtedly inherited from her mother, as her father, despite his great age, is still barely a half-head taller than her. Her dark brown hair falls to her midriff in unevenly parted plaits, and more hair is flyaway than not. One of her braids is visibly larger than the other, making her head lopsided and only adding to her disorderly appearance. Her eyes are dark, to match her hair, and almond-shaped. She has adopted the unfortunate habit of her aunts-- resting her eyes just a little too wide, her additional skill of looking through people tending to give her a vaguely unsettling expression. She appears to have a genetically grubby face thanks to her constant state of 'adventuring,' but that's honestly to be expected of her.

Mog prefers to wear long skirts or pinafores over anything else, and she's never seen in anything but her ratty old hiking boots. She doesn't even hike. She exclusively wears terrible jewellery she made herself out of things she's found for her 'almost definitely not supposed to be worn as jewellery' collection. No matter what she's wearing she manages to look dishevelled and improper, but she doesn't seem to notice.

Biography:

Born to a young couple, Morgause was the first child to Willem Hornback; a young man with the lifelong dream of being a father. Unfortunately, his wife quickly came to the sudden and concrete realisation that she was totally overwhelmed and not actually interested in being a mother. She still tries to reach out, in hopes of one day rekindling a relationship with Willem and Mog, but for now the wounds are still too fresh. But to be quite frank, Mog didn't feel she was missing out on much. She was raised in collaboration between her father and Aunt Mallory's wife Prue, travelling across the highlands for Prue's most certainly illegal 'magicians act'. I'll spoil it for you now: It's just magic. Her father, with his passion for gardening, ran a notably more legal potions and herbology stand in wizarding community markets they passed in their travels. Her aunt Mallory brings in the big bucks, though. She travels across Europe training dragons or something. Mog isn't sure what-- when Mallory occasionally joins them in Scotland she tends to pay more attention to the thrilling tales of adventure and near-death experiences over the semantics.

It doesn't get too lonely, travelling. The adults were fun and there were always people somewhere near. Not to mention Mog's insane ability to find trouble, undoubtedly a result of the adults around her. To have some sense of regularity, Mog was given a journal years ago that she has written in almost every day for as long as she can remember. She not very good, mind, but she seems to enjoy it. It gave her some sense of stability, and it was something to do.

Despite spending most of their time on the road, the household technically lives in a tiny apartment in Inverness-- though with them not being there 90% of the time, letters sent through the post tend to get lost in the maze of identical envelopes. The main function of the house is to bare witness to each family member's individual collection of 'jingles'-- just bits and bobs they all separately collect on their travels. It would not be considered a liveable environment by anyone but the Hornbacks'

Mental Description:

With an, to understate, irregular home life, Morga has had to try and keep her head on throughout her life. How successful she's been is debateable, but she's definitely found ways to entertain herself. She's resourceful, but has a bad habit of getting lost in her own world. With moving around so much, she's never experienced any kind of friendship that's lasted longer than a couple of days, so she's not the best at interacting with other people over a longer course. She can struggle to remember to think about other people, and can move on or forget friendships fast. It's easy for her to come across as self-centred or rude, or insensitive, but in reality, when she thinks of those around her, she's incredibly empathetic-- she just has a general lack of social awareness. She'll try to help, though she's unsure how to so her resulting tactics can often be interesting.

Her sense of humour is strange and absurdist, and often just a matter of interacting with people in an amusing way. It's not uncommon for people to not realise she's joking, which doesn't help her oddball reputation. She genuinely has no idea how she is perceived, so as much as she tries to come off as nice and friendly, often it is more weird and uncomfortable. She doesn't notice. It doesn't help that her expression and tone often doesn't match what she's trying to portray, so a lot of people leave interactions mildly confused.

In her head, her train of thought, though erratic, is clear. In this, she is often certain she's right, and can forget to listen to other's perspectives, leaving her to fall into arrogance and come off as combative or indignant. She's blunt to a fault, and often doesn't realise when she's upset someone until told explicitly. She can also be bad at reading other people, failing to realise when someone else is trying to be hurtful or offensive, or taking things too literally. She finds herself misreading similar situations repeatedly, which is tiring, frustrating, and frequently gets her into hot water other people would find easy to avoid. Unfortunately these times are increasingly difficult to separate from the times she's disregarding the rules entirely because they are against what she wants to do. That and forgetting them entirely. She doesn't have the best of memory and rules can get lost easily. Mog always found it easier to live by her own moral compass, subscribing to the logic of rules needing a reason, and then just making up her own reasons.

First Instance of Magic:

Although Mog was expected to show early signs of magic, that being the norm within the family, it couldn't have come at a better time. She first experienced magic very young-- around the ages of 5 and 6-- and the story has been retold to her through several drafts of varying dramatics. Prue said she had it under control anyway. Willem said Mog saved them from Azkaban. If you ask or tell anyone outside of the household, the story is she made a prophesy about her dad's tomatoes. The truth probably lies somewhere between her dad and her aunt's interpretation, but we know what was consistent to both stories; something was happening, Mog was overwhelmed, she got them out the building, and Prue did not get arrested for exposing the wizarding world to muggles.
