Evan Bartlett prior to his 11th birthday was an unremarkable young pup. He had been born and raised by a single mother in the small town of Duhonw, Wales. Duhonw, with it's impressive population of 239 at last count, provided the boy with an idyllic childhood as he played in the fields of his Grandparents farm. Evan's father wasn't around and surprisingly, the young lad could care less. He had a small village of father figures to pick from and cheek pinches were in no small supply. Living in a small town meant Evan was constantly on the hunt for playmates but on the rare occasion he was introduced to someone in his age group, he found that there was a gap in their interests. By virtue of being surrounded by more senior citizens than children, he developed more 'mature' interests such as fishing, card games and vintage television shows. His mother tried to introduce him to things more fitting of a boy his age but without anyone else to share his toys or shows with, Evan lost interest.

He is a hardworking yet mischievous boy with a dash of charming freckles painted across his face. His mother would tell Evan that he had gotten them from his 'Coc oen' of a father. However, every other major feature came from her, an observation he heard from just about every other citizen of Duhonw. Even as a toddler, Evan seemed to encapsulate the saying 'Work hard, play harder.' Easy to laugh yet capable of intense focus when it came to his work on the farm made him the darling of little Duhonw. He was a polite and even tempered little boy. Dylan, his grandfather would often muss up his grandsons chocolate brown hair, claiming it was for good luck. It seemed as if the boy had a clover tucked behind his ear at all times as Evan's various escapades often seemed to work out in his favor. Most notably, at the age of nine, Evan had been crawling in the hay loft, waiting to scare his mother who was due to meet him at noon. When she arrived, he moved to poke his head out of an opening in the loft floor but misjudged his force. A fall that should've given him serious injury only resulted in a broken ankle. It was as if his fall was broken by an invisible force. This was the moment his Mother learned that Evan took after his father in more than one way.

On his 11th birthday, Evan was tending to his grandparents livestock when he heard his mother call for him. Confused by her tone, Evan left his work and joined her in their shared cottage. What she would reveal to him would be life changing. He was a...wizard? He could barely believe it. His mother had hoped to keep his magical parentage a secret, meaning Evan would be sent to Hogwarts with barely an idea of what would be waiting for him.
