Born in the port town of Dover to two loving parents, Vera has lived a happy life. Her younger sister (Tara) arrived two years after her, and both displayed talents of the magical persuasion from a young age. Their wizard father (Daniel), an alumni of Hogwarts himself, was overjoyed to learn of their abilities and told them many stories of his time at Hogwarts throughout their childhoods. Their mother (Genevieve), while not a wizard herself, found the wizard world fascinating, and was equally glad to learn that her children took after her husband.
As a child, Vera went to public school, as most children do. She was picked on a bit for her quiet nature, but most of the students in her class had a liking for her shy smile and quiet kindness. She made best friends with her neighbour, Lucy, and they spent almost all their free time outside; hiking, swimming, playing make-believe. Nowhere makes Vera feel more at home than being outside with the sound of the sea strong in her ears.
A month after her 10th birthday, she was informed that her mother had cancer and wouldn’t last long. She was utterly devastated, and more than that, hurt. Her parents had been having hushed conversations for months, but had decided not to tell their children. Vera felt betrayed and belittled. The sense of betrayal didn’t stop her from spending all of her mother’s last months by her side.
Now, with her mother’s death months behind her and the built-up excitement caused by all her father’s Hogwarts stories, Vera is once again coming back to her old, happy self. Vera is ready and raring to go, joyfully anticipating all that Hogwarts has to offer. The hardest part will be leaving Lucy and trying to make new friends. But it can’t be that hard… right?
Vera is socially awkward and shy, but makes an effort to talk to people and be cordial. Her heat is kind and her personality is mellow; she likes it when everyone is at peace with one another. She loves the outdoors, but is also content in quiet places of learning. She likes to dance, swim, and solve riddles. People often find her taste for adventure surprising, but she loves trying new things, though this often comes into conflict with her sense of what is “right”.
